  • Netbeans Intellisense for Rails

    - by irishfury
Has anybody figured out a way to make the Netbeans intellisense for ruby and rails better? It either has too many options in the list (which I understand is a problem since it is a dynamic language). Or it has no options in the list, as if it is not dynamic enough to find everything. Are there any hacks to make it better, or is this just something that needs to be improved within the Netbeans source code? I'm currently using 6.8. Please spare me the posts about how I don't really need to use intellisense, and I should use vim or emacs. I'm sure the vim programmers are 10 times more productive than me with all their cool shortcuts, but I have no desire to learn these tools.

  • What to do with someone who can only use "the one true language"?

    - by Rob Wells
G'day, How do you work with someone when they haven't been able to see that there is a range of other languages out there beyond "The One True Path"? I mean someone who hasn't grown up to realise that the modern software professional has a range of tools in his toolbox. Someone who has a well-equipped toolbox and then selects the best tool for the job at hand. The person who's knee jerk reaction is, for example, "We must do this is C++!" "Everything must be done in C++!" What's the best approach for these people? How do you open them up to the fact that "not everything is a nail." cheers,

  • GIT sharing configuration data

    - by user569980
Hi, I just started using GIT for my versioning and I want to program some tools that work on top of it. Here is my question: Which information in the .git/config is shared to a remote repo? Is any? Is there a special way to push information to that repo? The reason I am asking is that I would like to add a "unique stamp" to the config of a repo. Also the remote repo and everybody pulling that project should have the stamp. Is that possible? If not, is there any other way to identify a repository? Having a .git folder, I want to decide whether this git repo is the same as a previously specified remote repo (the same means created by pulling the remote repo, changes are okay, of course).

  • [cli/linux] get plain text from raw emails (not attachments extraction)

    - by etuardu
Hi, having a raw email as input (i.e. the text between "DATA" and "." sent by a smtp client) I need to extract the mail content (which I know is always text only) as plain text. This means decoding transfer encoding (if any: could be base64 or quoted-printable), merging mutiparts (if any), and stripping headers. I tried various tools that would do that: mewdecode, uudecode, uudeview... I only managed to get this last one to work, but it won't output anything if the mail is not MIME encoded and it stores its output in an unpredictable (nor forceable) filename, so it's hard to use it in a not-interactive shell script. Since this is a pretty common job (every mail client have to do that), it's weird it's so complicated. Do you have some hints? (Actually, forcing uudeview to output in a certain file would be good enough). Thank you!

  • .htacces to create friendly URLs. Help needed....

    - by Jonathan
Hi, I'm having a hard time with .htacces. I want to create friendly URLs for a site I'm working on... Basically I want to convert this: http://website.com/index.php?ctrl=pelicula&id=0221889 http://website.com/index.php?ctrl=pelicula&id=0160399&tab=posters Into this: http://website.com/pelicula/0221889/ http://website.com/pelicula/0221889/posters/ In case I need it later I would also want to know how to add the article title to the end of the URL like this (I'm using PHP): http://website.com/pelicula/0221889/the-article-name/ http://website.com/pelicula/0221889/the-article-name/posters/ Note: Stackoverflow method is also good for me, for example the url of this question is: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3033407/htacces-to-create-friendly-urls-help-needed But you can put anything after the id and it will also work. like this: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3033407/just-anything-i-want I have used some automatic web tools for creating the .htacces file, but its not working correctly. So I ask for your help. I will also be glad if you can recommend .htacces best practices and recommendations.. Thanks!

  • Generate service layer with Hibernate

    - by gmate
Hi all! I generate *.hbm.xml mapping files and *.java file from the DB schema, with Hibernate tools. My question is, that is there any option, to generate service classes also? These are the classes where I implement the store(), find(), delete(), etc... methods. I know that for C# there are many solutions to generate almost everything. I'm looking for the same, but with Hibernate. Is there any? Thanks for every reply in advance!

  • Looking for an approach to program a mobile website for any device. Are there any?

    - by ChrisBenyamin
My wish is to know how I can program a mobile website, that fit to all mobile phones. Are there any special approaches to recognize a device and render the code according to it? Which tools and coding languages are required? My first thought was to hold the website in XML, which would be parsed depending on the device. You have to consider old phones, even devices with only wap support. For example: The mobile website has to recognize Nokia N75 and render/send the code that looks optimal for this device. Same thing with an iPhone or a Motorola Razr.

  • Ignoring specific differences in diff

    - by naumcho
When doing recursive diffs I want to ignore expected differences/translations - is there a way to do that with standard unix tools? E.g. file1: 1 ... 2 /path/to/something/ver1/blah/blah 3 /path/to/something/ver1/blah/blah 4 ... file2: 1 ... 2 /path/to/something/ver2/blah/blah 3 /path/to/something/ver3/blah/blah 4 ... I want to be able to do something like: diff file1 file2 --ignore-transltion "ver1>ver2" This should show only show me that line 3 is different Does anyone know of a good way to do that? I can easily write a perl script to do it but i will end up re-implementing most of the rest of the functionality of 'diff'. Update: My goal is to run this on directories with different versions of the same files with "diff -r" so I can spot unexpected differences in versions.

  • How to manage reports/files distribution to different destinations in Unix?

    - by mossie
The reporting tools will generate a huge numbers of reports/files in the file system (a Unix directory). There's a list of destinations (email addresses and shared folders) where a different set of reports/files (can have overlap) are required to be distributed at each destinations. Would like to know if there's a way to efficiently manage this reports delivery using shell scripts so that the maintenance of the list of reports and destinations will not become a mess in future. It's quite an open ended question, the constraint however is that it should work within the boundaries of managing the reports in a Unix FS.

  • How can I compare two jpeg encoding and other inormations

    - by Subhen
We have created a Driver programe which connect to a remote host using FTP and mount the remote host as a network drive. So when I try to copy some data it copies using FTP retrieve request and then paste it to the destination. The copy paste works fine as we can see the source file size and destination size are same. But while we try to open the .jpg file that is being copied , says no preview. I suspect there must be some bytes that is being corrupted while we try to copy and paste. Is there any tools so that I can compare both source and destination to get the differences.

  • visual tool to resolve conflicts merged into a single file

    - by Yehosef
I did a git merge and ended up with a file like that looks like this: class member extends item{ /********CONSTANTS**********/ const is_flaggable = true; const is_commentable = false; const is_ratable = false; const table = 'member'; <<<<<<< HEAD const table_about = 'mem_about' ; const table_to_about = 'mem_to_about' ; const table_hobbies = 'mem_to_hobby'; ======= const table_friendship = 'friendship'; const table_about = 'mem_about' ; const table_to_about = 'mem_to_about' ; const table_hobbies = 'mem_to_hobby'; const table_friendship_id = 3; >>>>>>> my-copy In this file there are many blocks like this. Is there a visual tool to help me look at this file and pick and choose the changes I want? Most of the diff tools I found are for looking at two files.

  • Value of Step-by-Step Asserts in Unit Tests

    - by Eric J.
When writing unit tests, there are cases where one can create an Assert for each condition that could fail or an Assert that would catch all such conditions. C# Example: Dictionary<string, string> dict = LoadDictionary(); // Optional Asserts: Assert.IsNotNull(dict); Assert.IsTrue(dict.Count > 0); Assert.IsTrue(dict.ContainsKey("ExpectedKey")); // Condition actually interested in testing: Assert.IsTrue(dict["ExpectedKey"] == "ExpectedValue"); Is there value to a large, multi-person project in this kind of situation to add the "Optional Asserts"? There's more work involved (if you have lots of unit tests) but it will be more immediately clear where the problem lies. I'm using VS 2010 and the integrated testing tools but intend the question to be generic.

  • How to compare 2 pdf files using command line or any tool

    - by Darzen
I have to compare 2 pdf files and check if they are same or different. I have tried my luck with WinMerge and Beyond compare. however they dont solve my issue. The issue is that there are 2 files which are exactly same except for the time in which they were saved. I have a piece of code that embeds the time of saving into the file. but i am not supposed to do any modifications to the code I have. Hence the above mentioned tools will say that the files dont match and There is just one difference, that is timestamp. Can anyone suggest me a way to handle this. Please. Thanks

  • Getting the fractional part of a float without using modf()

    - by knight666
Hi, I'm developing for a platform without a math library, so I need to build my own tools. My current way of getting the fraction is to convert the float to fixed point (multiply with (float)0xFFFF, cast to int), get only the lower part (mask with 0xFFFF) and convert it back to a float again. However, the imprecision is killing me. I'm using my Frac() and InvFrac() functions to draw an anti-aliased line. Using modf I get a perfectly smooth line. With my own method pixels start jumping around due to precision loss. This is my code: const float fp_amount = (float)(0xFFFF); const float fp_amount_inv = 1.f / fp_amount; inline float Frac(float a_X) { return ((int)(a_X * fp_amount) & 0xFFFF) * fp_amount_inv; } inline float Frac(float a_X) { return (0xFFFF - (int)(a_X * fp_amount) & 0xFFFF) * fp_amount_inv; } Thanks in advance!

  • Looking for a Toolbox (Crop/Position/Rotate) for a Website

    - by VIRTUALWEB
I'm looking for a Toolbox for a Website that can do the following things: Write Text in a Text Editor (change its color/font size/font) and display it over an product image (plus drag&drop, do rotation). As Texteditor i could use TinyMCE but how to rotate/drag&drop? the same with images (upload a logo, display it over an existing product image) where the user could drag&drop it around or rotate it left/right in 90 degrees, and change its size. are there any tools outside that can handle that requirements? They could be AJAX, Flash, jQuery, JavaScript, ... tia

  • How are builds deployed into QA->Staging->Production for ASP.NET Web Applications?

    - by CodeToGlory
Secondary questions are How do we best utilize SCM in the build process? How are code files labed and branched? Should we the .csproj and .sln files for build? How flexible are these when deploying to several environments? I know these are msbuild files. But as we add new files, this can become a bottlenect of updating and maintaining these .csproj files in SCM. How is rollback done in case of failed builds that QA missed testing etc, etc., Are there any good articles on the build process? This is more a question on the process and less on the choice of automated build tools. Please share your build process. I would like to get an end-to-end view from developers checking-in to Going Live.

  • How to find out where my memory is going

    - by the_mandrill
I've got the situation where the cycle of loading and then closing a document eats up a few Mb of RAM. This memory isn't being leaked as something owns it and cleans it up when the app exits (Visual Leak Detector and the Mac Leaks tool show agreement on this). However, I'd like to find out where it's going. I'm assuming it's some sort of cache in the application that gets populated when the document loads but not freed when the document is closed. Which methods or tools could I use to find out where these allocations are being made?

  • Stand-alone app to enter records through forms?

    - by OverTheRainbow
Hello I need to find a stand-alone (ie. no OpenOffice-based tools, for instance) Windows application that can present users with forms to enter records into an SQLite database. The goal is to migrate data from Excel sheets into a serverless, single-user database like SQLite. As a bonus, the application would also have a somewhat-protected admin section so that I can also use it to CRUD data with the same app, but it's not a requirement. There are a lot of applications listed on the official SQLite site: Can someone recommend one that is meant for end-users, either open- or closed-source? Thank you.

  • .NET project: unified wrapper for object databases.

    - by Steve
I am considering doing a project which would provide unified API and tools (import/export, etc.) for object databases (e.g. Caché, Objectivity) for .NET. It would provide: schema generation from CLR classes, generation of C# classes from given OODBMs schema, API for deleting, creating and updating objects, Linq provider, API for calling object's methods on DB server, some of OODBMs provide some kind of SQL support, so API for this, providers for Caché and Objectivity in first phase. Does any project which implements any of above exist? Can this be achieved with NHibernate dialects? or are OODBMs so different than RDBMs that it worth doing separate framework for them?

  • Given the lat/lon of 2 close points on earth (<10m), How do I calculate the distance in metres?

    - by Rory
I have the lat/lon of 2 points on the earth. They are really close together, <10m. Let's assume the earth is flat. How do I calculate the distance between them in metres? I know about tools (PostGIS, etc.) that can do this correctly, however I'm just doing a rough and ready type, and I'm OK with low accuracy. At such small sizes a difference of 1% is only 10cm, which is fine for me. I'm doing this in stock python. I'm OK with a standard Euclidean distance thing.

  • building a hash lookup table during `git filter-branch` or `git-rebase`

    - by intuited
I've been using the SHA1 hashes of my commits as references in documentation, etc. I've realized that if I need to rewrite those commits, I'll need to create a lookup table to correspond the hashes for the original repo with the hashes for the filtered repo. Since these are effectively UUID's, a simple lookup table would do. I think that it's relatively straightforward to write a script to do this during a filter-branch run; that's not really my question, though if there are some gotchas that make it complicated, I'd certainly like to hear about them. I'm really wondering if there are any tools that provide this functionality, or if there is some sort of convention on where to keep the lookup table/what to call it? I'd prefer not to do things in a completely idiosyncratic way.

  • Video/ Speech Development of Applications

    - by idea_
Why do we continue to type and click away in IDEs when we could theoretically use hand gestures and speech to develop applications? Think about it - Developing a class by standing in-front of your computer, making some gesture, and yelling "CAR!". This doesn't have to strictly apply to OOP either. We have sufficient speech and image acquisition/ processing and analysis tools available to us, don't we? This seems plausible to me, but I may be overly ambitious. From a conceptual point-of-view, do you see any problems with the implementation?

  • Advanced Memory Editing/Function Calling

    - by Saustin
Hi, I've gotten extremely interested into coding trainers (Program that modifies value of a different process) for video games. I've done the simple 'god-mode' and 'unlimited money' things, but I want to do alot more than that. (Simple editing using WriteProcessMemory) There are memory addresses of functions on the internet of the video game I'm working on, and one of functions is like "CreateCar" and I'm wanting to call that function from an external program. My question: How can I call a function from an external process in C/C++, provided the function address, using a process handle or other method. PS: If anyone could link me to tools (I've got debuggers, no need for more..) that help with this sort of thing, that'd be nice.
