• why is there different id syntax in the Android docs?

  This page in the Android documentation defines an element id as follows: <TextView android:id="@+id/label" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="Type here:" /> However this page defines it as: <EditText id="text" xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:textColor="@color/opaque_red" android:text="Hello, World!" /> I thought I had a decent understanding of what was going on until I saw this second example. In the first case, you need the + character so that id 'label' is added to the R file, correct? In the second case, would the EditText's id not be added to the R file because it does not contain the + character? Also, the second example does not include the android namespace on the id. Does having or not having the Android namespace affect whether that id will be added to the R file? Thanks for any clarification.

• Using now() in a <asp:textbox>

  Can anyone help. I am using a formview in VS 2005. I have different elements in my form databound to a database and I am performing an INSERT SQL statement. No problem. The problem is that I am trying to enter the current date into the SQL statement and I am having a problem. I can add <%now()% to the "Text" property of the asp:Textbox. But when I do, then I can't bind the textbox to a specific database column. How do I do both???? I can do this: <asp:TextBox ID="TextBox2" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("Initiate_Date") %>' ></asp:TextBox> Or this: <asp:TextBox ID="TextBox2" runat="server" Text='<%# now() %>' ></asp:TextBox> But I don't know how to do both.

  This may be a very dumb question but I can't seem to get it working. I use at many places the following syntax for dynamically binding a property of a control in aspx file to the resource entry, e.g. <SomeFunnyControl Text="<%$ Resources : ResClass, ResEntry %>" /> I want to do a similar thing with a class containing some constants, something like <SomeFunnyControl Text="<%= MyConstantsClass.MyStringConstant %>" /> But this doesn't seem to work, it simply sets the text to the exact expression without evaluating it. I am using ASP.NET 3.5 btw. I have tried the databinding approach but I get an HttpParseException saying Databinding expressions are only supported on objects that have a DataBinding event.

• Form character encoding problems with special characters

  Hello I have a jsp with an html form. I set the content type like this: <%@ page language="java" contentType="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1" pageEncoding="ISO-8859-1" %> When I send special characters like á é í ó ú they are saved correctly in the database. My table charset is utf-8. I want to change iso-8859 to utf-8 like this to standardize my application and accept more special characters: <%@ page language="java" contentType="text/html; charset=UTF-8" pageEncoding="UTF-8" %> but when I change it to utf-8 the special characters á é í ó ú are not saved correctly in the databse. However, because the table has a 'Password' column the SQL Profiler is being understandingly cautious and replacing the TextData column with: -- 'password' was found in the text of this event. -- The text has been replaced with this comment for security reasons. How do I prevent it doing this because I need to see the SQL statement being executed?

  Hello: I have a collection of physical parameters associated with different items. For example: Item, p1, p2, p3 a, 1, 2, 3 b, 4, 5, 6 [...] where px stands for parameter x. I could go ahead and store the database exactly as presented; the schema would be CREATE TABLE t1 (item TEXT PRIMARY KEY, p1 FLOAT, p2 FLOAT, p3 FLOAT); I could retrieve the parameter p1 for all the items with the statement: SELECT p1 FROM t1; A second alternative is to have an schema like: CREATE TABLE t1 (id INT PRIMARY KEY, item TEXT, par TEXT, val FLOAT) This seems much simpler if you have many parameters (as I do). However, the parameter retrieval seems very awkward: SELECT val FROM t1 WHERE par == 'p1' What do you advice? Should go for the "pivoted" (first) version or the id, par, val (second) version?   Hi! I had develop an intranet on CakePHP witch in one part generates a custom PDF using DOMPDF. The problem is that i have a memo field (mysql text) witch i print after getting the result from PHP nl2br function. The problems is that in some ocasions, this text is too long (even on font-size: 6px) and i need some way to make a page break (get again de header, and footer etc)... or maybe a nice way to get a second column to continue with the text inside. any ideas? thanks so much

I am using ie6 and am basically trying to center the unordered list on the screen but at the same time want the actual list item text aligned to the left. At the moment, I have my unordered list within the center tags, which has centered the list but I would actually like to now left align the actual list item text. • WPF texbox focus when render to offscreen buffer

  i am rendering a textbox to an offscreen buffer using RenderTargetBitmap and i want to enter text into this textbox, however, i can't set the textbox focus (using Focus() has no effect - presumably because the canvas is not attached to a real window?) this has two consequenes: 1 the keyboard input doesn't get captured 2. even if i set the text manually using TextBox text and CaretIndex = index i dont get a caret because of the lack of focus. is there a way to make this focus somehow? and if not, i'd like to at least have the caret visible even if there is no focus, but can't see a way of doing this.

• C# WebClient - View source question

  I'm using a C# WebClient to post login details to a page and read the all the results. The page I am trying to load includes flash (which, in the browser, translates into HTML). I'm guessing it's flash to avoid being picked up by search engines??? The flash I am interested in is just text (not an image/video) etc and when I "View Selection Source" in firefox I do actually see the text, within HTML, that I want to see. (Interestingly when I view the source for the whole page I do not see the text, within HTML, that I want to see. Could this be related?) Currently after I have posted my login details, and loaded the HTML back, I see the page which does NOT show the flash HTML (as if I had viewed source for the whole page).   Hi, Im currently building a new discount-webpage and Im looking for a solution to be able to hover over a discount button to reveal a small text without clicking. And after clicking on the button that the text in the flash button is copied into the clipboard and a new page open with a small frame from my window with the new page underneith. examples of this kind of script can be viewed on this page: http://www.retailmenot.com/ on the yellow boxes with the discount text. Im not looking for a free script or for someone to do this for me. All I want to know if there is another language to do this with like possibly java? and maybe some links to tutorials. (the current page solves this with flash which I havent worked with before.)

The function above is called on another selectboxes "OnChange" event, to fill sub-select-box with the desired options. I don't think it should be too difficult to add the "optgroup" tag into this, or is it? Thanks and if you need more input let me know...

  in a C# file i have a class Archiver { [DllImport("Archiver.dll")] public static extern void archive(string data, StringBuilder response); } string data is an input, and StringBuilder response is where the function writes something the archive function prototype (written in C) looks like this: void archive(char * dataChr, char * outChr); and it receives a string in dataChr, and then does a strcpy(outChr,"some big text"); from C# i call it something like this: string message = "some text here"; StringBuilder response = new StringBuilder(10000); Archiver.archive(message,response); this works, but the problem, as you might see is that i give a value to the StringBuilder size, but the archive function might give back a (way) larger text than the size i've given to my StringBuilder. any way to fix this?

  I'm curious whether many of us who do design or take design decisions have ever heard of this problem. I'm aware there are dangerous color combinations, like green + red. This is probably one of the most popular cases of color blindness. If you have green text on a red background and vice versa some people won't see anything. I've also seen in practice that green text on a blue background was not seen by one guy. What other color compositions should be avoided, and how often these cases are to be expected? Let us make some ranging by encounter probability who has the numbers. Addition: I've just remembered one very bad example that causes problems to just about everyone - blue text on a black background. It's unreadable for all intents and purposes. Never could understand what could possibly compel a web master to use this color combination...

• Odd problem with IE8 and z-index CSS property

  I not been able to put one DIV over his parent DIV in Internet Explorer. With Firefox is working as suposed to. The odd part is that if I open the html file directly in IE, everything works fine. But if I upload to the server and open from there, the div is hidden underneath his parent. I've tried several z-index combinations and none works.
