• SSL is not enabled in Heroku

  Since Heroku has integrated the piggybank_ssl addon by default, trying: heroku addons:add piggyback_ssl or heroku addons:add ssl:piggyback results in: ! This add-on is now a standard Heroku platform feature. ! Your apps can already use piggyback SSL. But, accessing: mywebsite.herokuapp.com results in: SSL is not enabled mywebsite.herokuapp.com does not have SSL enabled. My production.rb has: config.force_ssl = true What am I missing? Update I have read the page SSL on Heroku, but it's obsolete, they suggest to run: heroku addons:add piggyback_ssl Which is no longer necessary. SOLVED ! I don't change anything, and now it's working. It seems that it was a heroku problem.

• Computer crashed during 3.0.0.17-generic kernel upgrade

  My computer crashed (due to heat) during the update process for the 3.0.0.17-generic kernel upgrade. My computer will not boot ant all in 3.0.0.17 now and 3.0.0.16 is unstable (wireless networking doesn't work, also crashes often). I found the boot to previous versions tool at start up and the last stable version is 3.0.0.15-generic. However, my computer still thinks that it has 3.0.0.16-generic and 3.0.0.17-generic, even though both of these versions are broken. Is there anyway to force a reinstall of the 3.0.0.16-generic and 3.0.0.17-generic kernel updates from 3.0.0.15 and associated other updates?. (Without having to do a full reinstall?) I am running ubuntu 11.10. Thanks!

• How can I get the name of the current terminal from command-line?

  Is there a possibility to get the type of terminal with a command? If I'm using gnome-terminal the output should be gnome-terminal or something similar. It would be also nice to get the version of the terminal. Update ps -aux | grep `ps -p $$ -o ppid=` will output something like this: user 4239 0.0 0.7 292708 15744 pts/8 Sl 11:39 0:02 xfce4-terminal user 4800 0.0 0.0 6176 820 pts/0 S+ 12:23 0:00 grep --color=auto 4239 This will also work with xterm, but i don't know how to get only the name (xfce4-terminal in this case).

• Windows 8 Install

  So did my first Windows 8 install today. Did it on a Macbook Pro (bootcamp partition). Bootcamp partition, needed to be formatted by Windows 8, in-order to proceed. However once done install went smoothly. Installed the Apple Windows Support stuff in compatibility mode; which went well. I tried it first not in compatibility mode and it caused a Blue Screen of death (which now has a :-( icon ) The volume, brightness etc. soft keys work well. I had some trouble joining wireless networks; so hopefully a windows update will resolve. First impression, is that 'its just like Windows 7', but with Metro. We'll see what happens over the next few days.

  I read this article Unobtrusive JavaScript with jQuery and I noticed these points in the slide page 11 some companies strip JavaScript at the firewall some run the NoScript Firefox extension to protect themselves from common XSS and CSRF attacks many mobile devices ignore JavaScript entirely screen readers do execute JavaScript but accessibility issues mean you may not want them to I did not understand the fourth point. What does it mean? I need your comment and responses on these points. Is not using JavaScript and switching to libraries like jQuery worth it? UPDATE 1 : whats the meaning of Unobtrusive JavaScript with jQuery ? and yes it does not say we should use libraries but we should have them on external files for that reason i asked my question.

For that what'll be easy to do: 1) Formatting entire hard drive OR 2) Formatting only that partition on which I want to install Ubuntu? I should be sure that I can run MS Office Professional Plus 2007 on Ubuntu. • Good practices in screen states management?

  I wonder what are the best ways to organize different screens in a game? I am thinking of it like this: Inheriting a base State class, and overriding update and render methods, to handle the current screen. Then, under certain events a StateManager is able to activate another Screen State, and the game screen changes as only the current State is rendered. On the activation of a new screen, effects like fading could be added, and also the same goes for its deactivation. This way a flow of screen could be made. By saying when A ends, B starts, allowing for complex animations etc. Toughts?

• Ubuntu Software Center (10.04LTS) Missing Packages

  I recently downgraded from 11.10 to 10.04LTS for compatibility and support of specific development tools. The Ubuntu Software center is missing many packages that I had access to in 11.10, most notably LibreOffice. (Also development tools.) Is there a way to update software sources to find the missing packages? (Or are they incompatible with 10.04?) Synaptic does not have libre either. I feel like I am working with a gimped version of USC.

• Advanced subversion techniques, what am I missing?

  I started using SVN about 9 months ago and it's been a game changer to say the least. Although, I feel I'm still a bit lost. I feel like there is a lot more I need to take advantage of to really step up my application development. For example I would like to be able to quarantine any volatile/major changes into some kind of 'sub-repository' or something. I'm finding that major changes are impeding minor bug fixes that are quite urgent. How can I push one simple update without pushing incomplete or broken code?

• Dolphin Search Toolbar is missing its text field. How can I get it back?

  A while ago, my Search Toolbar bar went missing in dolphin. I'm referring to the Search Toolbar found under SettingsToolbars ShownSearch Toolbar. I used to sit at the very top right corner of the window. If the search toolbar is checked for view/unhide, the toolbar looks to activate something, as there is a slight shift in the interface buttons, but the text field is gone from the toolbar. I tried reconfiguring with dpkg, purging and reinstalling, etc. I left it alone as I thought it would be fixed in an update, but today I upgraded dolphin and it's still gone. This appears to be a 4.6 bug or something. Any thoughts?

• apache2 server returns (400) syntax error

  There are 900 paths in the googles index to our homepage containing illegal characters. Example: http://www.seriesam.com/filmaffisch/TC%4NK Note the character "%4N". I have no idea where they come from, but would like to update google index with a correct URL using "canonical" in the html code. But the problem is our apache2 server immediately sends a 400 error if you click the link above. How can I configure apache2 not to give an error code, but instead treat the link above as "correct"? Maybe replacing the char %4N with nothing.

• How can I make sure my website will be available during a presentation?

  I have an online presentation to do next week and I have it all ready to go. The website is HTML and CSS only (no DB), and currently resides on my shared hosting account. Now, although my shared hosting is (relatively) reliable, I have noticed that recently they have been making some changes and my website has been unavailable at times. I don't want this to happen to me on the morning of my presentation, so I am asking what is the best way to prepare for such a thing? My domain is www.presentation.mydomain.com and I would like to keep this if possible (even if issues arise). I have been thinking of a few alternatives: Host my site on two different domains or servers (but what about the domain name?) Have a portable XAMPP version on a USB stick (again, domain name?) Possible failover site/location Update: The presentation will be carried out on their laptop, not mine. So I am unable to install any software.

• upgrade from ubuntu 12.04 to 12.10 failed, now loads "grub rescue"

  I attempted to upgrade from 12.04 to 12.10 last night. Installation seemed to go fine, and this morning I had a message like "restart now to complete installation". So I restart, get an initial "Loading Operating System ..." message, followed by "error: file not found. Then it kicks into "grub rescue" mode. Previously I have this running as a dual boot (window 7) and I just ran the upgrade to 12.10 via the update manager in ubuntu. Any ideas on what is going on here, or what the error means? I know my way around the command line, but this is above my pay grade. Thanks for any advice.

• Equation / formula to determine an objects position on an ellipitcal path

  I'm making a space game, as such I need objects to follow an elliptical path (orbit). I've worked out how to calculate all the important aspects of my orbits, the only remaining thing is how to have an object follow it. My Orbit class contains the major, minor (and by extension semi-major,semi-minor) lengths. The focii radius, area and circumference even. What is the equation to determine an objects x/y position (only need 2D) on an ellipse with a certain speed after a period of time. Basically, every frame I want to update the position based on the amount of elapsed time. I would like to have the speed along the path speed up and slow down according to the distance from the object it's orbiting, but not sure how to factor this in to the above given that at any point in time the speed has changed from it's previous speed. • Unity: Assigning String value in inspector

  I got an issue with Unity I can't seem to comprehend, and it is possibly very simple: I am trying to write a simple piece of code in JavaScript where a button toggles the activation of a shield, by dragging a prefab with Resources.load("ActivateShieldPreFab") and destroying it again (Haven't implemented that yet). I wish to assign this button through the inspector, so I have created a string variable which appears as intended in the inspector. Though it doesn't seem to register the inspector input, even though I changed the value through the inspector. It only provides the error: "Input Key named: is unknown" When the button name is assigned within the code, there is no issues. Code as follows: var ShieldOn = false; var stringbutton : String; function Start(){ } function Update () { if(Input.GetKey(stringbutton) && ShieldOn != true) { Instantiate(Resources.load("ActivateShieldPreFab"), Vector3 (0, 0, 0), Quaternion.identity); ShieldOn = true; } } Hope somebody can help, in advance... • HP 655 Notebook (Ubuntu 12.04) wireless internet disabled after running updates

  Today the update-manaeger suggested that I should download some updates. So I did. After the updates were installed I had to reboot the system. After the reboot my notebook doesn't see any wireless networks. I was looking for a long time on the internet for answers but non of them applies to my case. I have the idea, it has got something to do with the kernel I am currently using (Linux 3.2.0-55). Is this one new for Ubuntu 12.04? When I boot my system I can choose to use an older kernel (linux 3.2.0-32). When I use this one the notebook does see the wireless networks. This is my network card according to the command lspci: Ralink corp. RT3290 Wireless 802.11n 1T/1R PCIe Anyone an idea to fix my problems with wireless internet?

• 2D game big background images for maps

  Update: this question is general, not specific to Sprite Kit or a single language/platform. I'm toying with Sprite Kit with an idea to make a 2D side-scroller. Now the backgrounds for the maps are going to be hand-drawn and surely bigger than retina display, so the maps could span more than 1 screen in both axis. I imagine loading such a huge image could mean trouble and I don't plan to use tiling. I'm not sure how Sprite Kit splits images bigger than max texture size, if it does. I could split the images myself and use more sprites for each part of the background. What is the usual way to handle this?

  I made a clean install on my Sony Vaio laptop, of Ubuntu 11.10 and when the installation was ready, it prompted to remove the usb I was installing the distro from, and press enter to reboot. After this reboot the first thing I got was the following error: error: couldn't read file error: you need to load the kernel first Press any key to continue.. After that it throws me back to the Grub select screen: Ubuntu, with linux 3.0.0-14-generic-pae recovery mode previous linux versions (none since I made a clean install) memory test If i choose the first option it shows only a black screen and never loads anything. If i reboot the same thing happens. Could I repair this using boot-repair? Is there any other way? • Did Google Delete my index?

  I have a website that I haven't had much time to take care of. I updated it 4 times since last October, the contents are all original and informative. I can see those cache from Way back Machine and the site was indexed in Yahoo, but not in google. Did I get my index on Google deleted because I did not update it often? Normally Google crawl often and index fast, I just got really worried if I did something wrong. Is it possible that I set something wrong in the hosting or something? Please help me

• Which folders need to be backed up for migration in Joomla?

  I'm helping someone update & migrate their old website, built on the Joomla framework. Currently it is running on Joomla 1.5.8 which is an ancient version. I've convinced them to upgrade Joomla to at least 2.5 I have already made a backup of the database. Most links I have seen talk of backing up the entire public_html folder (The website runs on a shared host). But in my fresh Joomla installation there are several folders that are in the public_html folder. So which of the folders in the public_html folder are from the content of the website, and which are of the old Joomla framework? I'm afraid that I might overwrite files of the new Joomla framework with the old framework, if copy all the files and folders into the new installation.
