  Oracle VM Server for SPARC (LDoms) release 2.2 came out on May 24. You can get the software, see the release notes, reference manual, and admin guide here on the Oracle VM for SPARC page. Oracle VM Server for SPARC enables you to create multiple virtual systems on a single physical system.Each virtual system is called alogical domain and runs its own instance of Oracle Solaris 10 or Oracle Solaris 11. The version of the Oracle Solaris OS software that runs on a guest domain is independent of the Oracle Solaris OS version that runs on the primary domain. So, if you run the Oracle Solaris 10 OS in the primary domain, you can still run the Oracle Solaris 11 OS in a guest domain, and if you run the Oracle Solaris 11 OS in the primary domain, you can still run the Oracle Solaris 10 OS in a guest domain In addition to that starting with the Oracle VM Server for SPARC 2.2 release you can migrate guest domain even if source and target machines have different processor type. You can migrate guest domain from a system with UltraSPARC  T2+ or SPARC T3 CPU to a system with a SPARC T4 CPU.The guest domain on the source and target system must run Solaris 11 In order to enable cross CPU migration.In addition to that you need to change the cpu-arch property value on the source system.   Fault Handling It is one thing to architect, design, and code the “happy flow” of your automated business processes and services. It is another thing to deal with situations you do not want or expect to occur in your processes and services. This session dives into fault handling in Oracle Service Bus 11g and Oracle SOA Suite 11g, based on an order-to-cash business process. Faults can be divided into business faults, technical faults, programming errors, and faulty user input. Each type of fault needs a different approach to prevent them from occurring or to deal with them. For example, apply User Experience (UX) techniques to improve the quality of your application so that faulty user input can be prevented as much as possible. This session shows and demos what patterns and techniques can be used in Oracle Service Bus and Oracle SOA Suite to prevent and handle technical faults as well as business faults. Q&A This section lists answers to the questions that were raised during the preview event. Q: Where can retries be configured in Oracle Service Bus? The retry mechanism is used to prevent faults caused by temporary glitches such as short network interruptions. A faulted message is resend (retried) and might succeed this time since the glitch has passed. Retries are an out-of-the-box feature that can be used in Oracle Service Bus and Oracle SOA Suite using the Fault Policy framework. By default, retries are disabled in Oracle Service Bus. • Nvidia driver installation results in resolution change to 800x600 with Xubuntu 10.04 (can't change)

  I have a 2.8 P4 and a Nvidia FX 5500 AGP graphics card. I've installed Xubuntu 10.04. It is WAY too laggy with the default o/s driver. Installing the Nvidia 173 driver, modaliases and nvidia-settings packages via synaptic package manager results in the following error message: An error occurred, please run Package Manager from the right click menu or apt-get in a terminal to see what is wrong. Error: Opening the cache (E::read, still have 11898251 to read but none left, E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.) This usually means that your installed packages have unmet dependencies. When restarting the PC the resolution drops to 800x600 (from the monitors native 1440x900). Nvidia settings cannot be changed either from the Xfce menu or Nvidia Xserver. Nvidia Xsever gives the following error message: You do not appear to be using the Nvidia X driver. Please edit your x configuration file (just run 'nvidiaxconfig' as root ) and restart X server. Also, I can't find anything in any directory called xorg.

  I'm currently working on how install and configure multiple (30+) JBoss EAP 5 configurations (both standalone and clusters) for development, test and production at a client's site (running SuSE). I'm not to fancy about the jboss way of storing application/configuration together with system files, so I have tried to split things up (ie moving server config out of the jboss installation directory). I also would like minimize the amount of configuration needed when upgrading/patching jboss - but I'm not done thinking about that... It would be great to hear how you've done and what you think about my approach.   I have downloaded & installed the OPCDA.NET client component evaluation & XMLDA.NET client component evaluation. It provides some C# samples for browsing the available OPC Server, connecting to the OPC server, & browsing the available items on the server. I know the programatic way in which we can access the local OPC server. It is provided in the sample C# applications. I have installed the OPC server on another machine ( remote machine ). I have done all the required setting related to the 'dcomcnfg' utility. I can access the remote OPC server from client machine by using the Test Client provided by the OPCDA.NET client component evaluation & XMLDA.NET client component evaluation. But I am unaware of how this can be done programmatically. In the available C# samples I found no such programatic part (coding ) in which we can access the remote OPC server. Can you provide me the code through which I can browse the available remote machines in my network, available OPC server on each machine after selecting the specific machine name, connecting to the OPC server & browsing the available items on the server ? or Can you provide me the any link through which I can resolve the above issue ?

  I'm trying to figure out the best way to migrate an FTP server from old hardware to new hardware. The server is on a domain, but not all the users setup on the server (to use FTP) are domain accounts, some are local to the server. For example, I have users both ways: domain\username machinename\username The new machine name will be different. So I need to copy all the files with permissions in tact from the old server to the new server. Then I need to convert all the user accounts from the old server to the new server. Then I need to change the file permissions so that they are no longer oldserver\username but newserver\username. Can this be accomplished all with CALCS? Is there an easy way that perhaps I'm missing?

• SQL Server 2005 Blocking Problem (ASYNC_NETWORK_IO)

  I am responsible for a third-party application (no access to source) running on IIS and SQL Server 2005 (500 concurrent users, 1TB data, 8 IIS servers). We have recently started to see significant blocking on the database (after months of running this application in production with no problems). This occurs at random intervals during the day, approximately every 30 minutes, and affects between 20 and 100 sessions each time. All of the sessions eventually hit the application time out and the sessions abort. The problem disappears and then gradually re-emerges. The SPID responsible for the blocking always has the following features: WAIT TYPE = ASYNC_NETWORK_IO The SQL being run is “(@claimid varchar(15))SELECT claimid, enrollid, status, orgclaimid, resubclaimid, primaryclaimid FROM claim WHERE primaryclaimid = @claimid AND primaryclaimid < claimid)”. This is relatively innocuous SQL that should only return one or two records, not a large dataset. NO OTHER SQL statements have been implicated in the blocking, only this SQL statement. This is parameterized SQL for which an execution plan is cached in sys.dm_exec_cached_plans. This SPID has an object-level S lock on the claim table, so all UPDATEs/INSERTs to the claim table are also blocked. HOST ID varies. Different web servers are responsible for the blocking sessions. E.g., sometimes we trace back to web server 1, sometimes web server 2. When we trace back to the web server implicated in the blocking, we see the following: There is always some sort of application related error in the Event Log on the web server, linked to the Host ID and Host Process ID from the SQL Session. The error messages vary, usually some sort of SystemOutofMemory. (These error messages seem to be similar to error messages that we have seen in the past without such dramatic consequences. We think was happening before, but didn’t lead to blocking. Why now?) No known problems with the network adapters on either the web servers or the SQL server. (In any event the record set returned by the offending query would be small.) Things ruled out: Indexes are regularly defragmented. Statistics regularly updated. Increased sample size of statistics on claim.primaryclaimid. Forced recompilation of the cached execution plan. Created a compound index with primaryclaimid, claimid. No networking problems. No known issues on the web server. No changes to application software on web servers. We hypothesize that the chain of events goes something like this: Web server process submits SQL above. SQL server executes the SQL, during which it acquires a lock on the claim table. Web server process gets an error and dies. SQL server session is hung waiting for the web server process to read the data set. SQL Server sessions that need to get X locks on parts of the claim table (anyone processing claims) are blocked by the lock on the claim table and remain blocked until they all hit the application time out. Any suggestions for troubleshooting while waiting for the vendor's assistance would be most welcome. Is there a way to force SQL Server to lock at the row/page level for this particular SQL statement only? Is there a way to set a threshold on ASYNC_NETWORK_IO waits only?

I have the choice of the following versions of windows: Windows Server 2003 Windows Server 2003 Web Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Windows Server 2008 Windows Server 2008 Web Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Would one of these be better for deploying a C# .NET application?   i need to copy the tables and data (about 5 yrs data, 6200 tables) stored in sqlserver, i am using datastage and odbc connection to connect and datstage automatically creates the table with data, but its taking 2-3 hours per table as tables are very large(0.5 gig, 300+columns and about 400k rows). How can i achieve this the fastes as at this rate i am able to only copy 5 tables per day but within 30 days i need move over these 6000 tables.

• Deployment of SQL Server: installing a second instance?

  Simple problem. I'm working on a Delphi 2007/WIN32 application which now uses MS Access as simple data store. I have to modify it to support SQL Server Express, which is easy. These modifications are working so the application can be deployed using either SQL Server or MS Access. (Whatever the user prefers.) I did consider deploying the whole application together with the SQL Compact but this is not practicak. Using SQL Server Express 2008 instead of 2005 is an option, but also has a few nasty side-effects which we don't want to resolve for now. The problem is deploying the whole project. The installation with SQL Server would need a quiet installation so the user won't notice it. SQL Server is mentioned in the documentation so they know it's there. We just don't want to bother them with technical issues. In most cases, such an installation will go just fine. But what if the user already has an SQL Server (2005) installation which is used for something else? Personally, I would prefer to just install a second instance of SQL Server on their system so it won't conflict with the other installation. (Thus, if they uninstall the other app, the SQL instance will just stay installed.) While SQL Server 2005 and 2008 can be installed on the same system simply by using two different names for the instance, I wonder if it's also possible to install SQL Server 2005 twice on a single system to get two instances. And if possible, how?

  I have a legacy client server system where the server maintains a record of some data stored in a sqlite database. The data is related to monitoring access patterns of files stored on the server. The client application is basically a remote viewer of the data. When the client is launched, it connects to the server and gets the data from the server to display in a grid view. The data gets updated in real time on the server and the view in the client automatically gets refreshed. There are two problems with the current implementation: When the database gets too big, it takes a lot of time to load the client. What are the best ways to deal with this. One option is to maintain a cache at the client side. How to best implement a cache ? How can the server maintain a diff so that it only sends the diff during the refresh cycle. There can be multiple clients and each client needs to display the latest data available on the server. The server is a windows service daemon. Both the client and the server are implemented in C#
