• EXCEL import to sql returning NULL for decimals when in VARCHAR data type

  Hi, I am working on a peice of software which has expodentially grown over the last few years and the database needs to be regularly updated. Customers are providing us with data now on large spreadsheets which we format and will start importing into the database. I am using the Import and Export Data (32-bit) Wizard. One column in the database contains values like '1.1.1.2' etc and i am importing them in as a Varchar as that is the data type in the database. However, for values like '8.5', 'NULL' is getting imported insead. It only occurs when there is one decimal point. Is this a formatting error with excel or is it the wrong datatype?

• Remote interface lookup-problem in Glassfish3

  I have deployed a war-file, with actionclasses and a facade, and a jar-file with ejb-components (a stateless bean, a couple of entities and a persistence.xml) on glassfish3. My problem is that i cant find my remote interface to the stateless bean from my facade. • xmldocument and nested schemas

  Using c# and .net 3.5 I'm trying to validate an xml document against a schema that has includes. The schemas and there includes are as below Schema1.xsd - include another.xsd another.xsd - include base.xsd When i try to add the Schema1.xsd to the XmlDocument i get the following error. Type 'YesNoType' is not declared or is not a simple type. I believe i'm getting this error because the base.xsd file is not being included when i load the Schema1.xsd schema. I'm trying to use the XmlSchemaSet class and I'm setting the XmlResolver uri to the location of the schemas.   Java's SimpleDateFormat is used to format a Date object to a string. The formatter supports various pattern letters, which denote textual representation of a Date field. For example, yy is two-letter year, yyyy is four-letter year, and E is day of week. For example, A SimpleDateFormat initialized with yyyy.MM.dd G 'at' HH:mm:ss z will format a date to something like 2001.07.04 AD at 12:08:56 PDT. I would like to add some pattern letters to SimpleDateFormat. For example, want C to denote Hebrew weekday (??? ?????, ??? ???, ...). What's the right way to extend SimpleDateFormat with these new pattern letters? The only online example I could find seems somewhat complicated. I can live with formatting only, without parsing.

  I like to display textView when there are no items in the listView whereas the textView will not display when there are items in the listView. My problem is even there are items in the listView, the textView still will be displayed in a short time and then load the items into listView.   I have a table like the one below. How can I get Excel to put borders around groups with the same number in the 4th column so that there is a border around the groups. I was thinking conditional formatting could do it but I can't think how. So I think the only option is a macro. • Convert integer to equivalent number of blank spaces.

  I was wondering what the easiest way is to convert an integer to the equivalent number of blank spaces. I need it for the spaces between nodes when printing a binary search tree. I tried this `int position = printNode.getPosition(); String formatter = "%1"+position+"s%2$s\n"; System.out.format(formatter, "", node.element);` But I am getting almost 3 times as many spaces compared to the int value of position. I'm not really sure if I am formatting the string right either. Any suggestions would be great! If it makes it clearer, say position = 6; I want 6 blank spaces printed before my node element.

• All things equal what is the fastest way to output data to disk in C++?

  I am running simulation code that is largely bound by CPU speed. I am not interested in pushing data in/out to a user interface, simply saving it to disk as it is computed. What would be the fastest solution that would reduce overhead? iostreams? printf? I have previously read that printf is faster. Will this depend on my code and is it impossible to get an answer without profiling? Edit: Output data needs to be in text format, whether tab or comma separated. This will require formatting, precision, etc. Running in Windows.

  Hello, I am J2SE developer but I have rich web-background (php, perl/cgi and so on) and now I am starting new project. It will have web interface, spaghetti business logic, relational database as storage and connections to other services. I do it from the scratch. My colleagues told me to use spring, spring security and struts. I look briefly at J2EE spec and found that it covers almost all aspects of enterprise application. I asked my colleagues why do they need spring and struts, but looks like they use technologies simply because they are familiar with them and not familiar with classic J2EE stack. So, my question is: what is bad about J2EE? Why do I need spring if there are JNDI lookups? It will take a day or two to create fake InitialContext for unit-tests. And that is all: I stand with out of external tools like spring. Why do I need spring-security if there is a security built in Servlets spec? I can map any request to any servlet using web.xml, no struts.xml is needed. I can use servlet-filters instead of struts interceptors. There is RMI, so I do not need spring-remote. And so on.. Why should I bother my self with all that fancy stuff if there is J2EE? I really want to find situation when J2EE is not enough. Do you have any? Thanks!

• local vs core contoller

  Hi, I am adding new column and action in the local admin app/code/local/Mage/Adminhtml/Block/Catalog/Product/Grid.php which works fine, however. The local controller/app/code/local/Mage/Adminhtml/Block/Catalog/Product.php is not being used or is not overloading the admin one /app/code/core/Mage/Adminhtml/Block/Catalog/Product.php. This is almost fresh install of Magento 1.4.0.1. I am the only one working, so i know it is not overloaded by some custom controller. I have disabled all custom modules. I have rolled back most of my changes. I have checked /etc/Modules/Mage_Catalog.xml. Refreshed cache all possible ways, loged in and out. Nothing....still using the core contoller copy. why? How do you troubleshoot, meaning, at what moment magento decides using between core or local copies? ...its even more strange because it does not parse local Adminhtml config.xml but uses local Adminthml copy of Blocks. Any pointer would help. I would like to keep everything in local code. Thank You, Margots

• Problem with making a simple JS XmlHttpRequest call

  I have to create a very simple client that makes GET and POST calls to our server and parses the returned XML. I am writing this in JavaScript, problem is I don't know how to program in JS (started to look into this just this morning)! As n initial test, I am trying to ping to the Twitter API, here's the function that gets called when user enters the URL http://api.twitter.com/1/users/lookup.xml and hits the submit button: function doRequest() { var req_url, req_type, body; req_url = document.getElementById('server_url').value; req_type = document.getElementById('request_type').value; alert("Connecting to url: " + req_url + " with HTTP method: " + req_type); req = new XMLHttpRequest(); req.open(req_type, req_url, false, "username", "passwd");// synchronous conn req.onreadystatechange=function() { if (req.readyState == 4) { alert(req.status); } } req.send(null); } When I run this on FF, I get a Access to restricted URI denied" code: "1012 error on Firebug. Stuff I googled suggested that this was a FF-specific problem so I switched to Chrome. Over there, the second alert comes up, but displays 0 as HTTP status code, which I found weird. Can anyone spot what the problem is? People say this stuff is easier to use with JQuery but learning that on top of JS syntax is a bit too much now.

• How do I get a UIView which displays text to behave like a UILabel when bounds change?

  I have a UIView in which I need to draw text in drawRect: - (void)drawRect:(CGRect)rect { ... [@"some text" drawAtPoint:somePoint withFont:someFont]; ... } Because the text requires special formatting, I cannot just use a UILabel. It looks fine until I rotate the device. Then the size of my custom UIView changes (in the parent view's layoutSubviews method), and the text becomes stretched in one direction and squished in the other. When I replace my view with a UILabel, the text always looks great, even when the bounds of the view changes. How can I get my view to exhibit the same behavior as UILabel? Some things I have looked into, but have yet to have success with: Set the view's layer's needsDisplayOnBoundsChange to YES. Set the view's contentStretch to CGRectZero. Call setNeedsDisplay in my view's layoutSubviews. Maybe I'm not doing one of these things right. Has anyone else run into this?

  I am wondering if it is possible to dictate the order (i.e. :order = 'created_at DESC') within the view. I realize that logic in the view is not ideal but I seem to be having some problems locating where to affect this output. • C#: HTTPWebResponse using application/x-www-form-urlencoded

  So I sent an HTTPWebRequest using application/x-www-form-urlencoded as my content type. I assume that this means the reponse will be returned in a similar type? (EDIT: Have now been told this isn't the case) My question is this. How do I access the different key/value pairs returned in the response. My code so far looks like this. I can of course read the string but surely there is a better way to access the data other than ripping the string apart. HttpWebResponse response = SendPOSTRequest("https://site/page?Service=foo", content.ToString(), "", "", true); string responseCode = response.StatusCode.ToString(); string responseStatusDescription = response.StatusDescription; StreamReader sr = new StreamReader(response.GetResponseStream()); string result = sr.ReadToEnd(); I tried using XML/linq to read the elements into an XDocument but of course it is not being returned in XML form. Assume I have 3 or 4 different pieces of information in there how could I read them out? EDIT: I have just checked and the data is being returned as text/plain. How can this be processed easily? I used the following code to typeset an equation \begin{align} & R=\frac{P^2}{P+S'} \label{eqn:SCS}\\ &\mbox {where} \quad \mbox R = \mbox {Watershed Runoff} \notag\\ &\hspace{0.63in} \mbox P = \mbox{Rainfall} \notag\\ &\hspace{0.63in} \mbox S' = \mbox{Storage in the watershed $=\frac{1000}{CN}-10$ }\notag \end{align} My output requirement is such that: The equation should begin one tab space from the left margin The equation number should end at one tab space from the right margin With the above code, I have the equation begin at the right place but not the numbering.
