  • Github Project Wiki: separate page filename from page title

    Starting Point In a former version of a project wiki on Github was a separation between the page filename and page title. So we build up our Wiki in a manner, that some well defined prefixes in the filename describe the overall context of the particular page. Sample: At the page themselves we used a title-tag on top of the page to get the title in the rendered HTML-page. Here “= Tabelle: Anhänge bzw. Attachments” for the page with filename “data+table+Attachment”. This was rendered as We see: there is a file “data+table+Attachment” and a title-tag “= Tabelle: Anhänge bzw. Attachments” as well as a rendering with the title “Tabelle: Anhänge bzw. Attachments”. This was fine. Problem Now the Github-Wiki uses the title of the page as the filename and vice versa. This ends up in a cluttered file system and also in suppressing titles in the page themselves. So this page renders to As we could see: the title tag “= Organisation: IT-Infrastruktur” is not more rendered. Instead the filename “organisation+IT Infrastructure” is choosen as the title for the page. That sucks. Solution I reported this by Github again and hope for a fix.

  • Common request: export #Tabular model and data to #PowerPivot

    I received this request in many courses, messages and also forum discussions: having an Analysis Services Tabular model, it would be nice being able to extract a correspondent PowerPivot data model. In order of priority, here are the specific feature people (including me) would like to see: Create an empty PowerPivot workbook with the same data model of a Tabular model Change the connections of the tables in the PowerPivot workbook extracting data from the Tabular data model Every table should have an EVALUATE ‘TableName’ query in DAX Apply a filter to data extracted from every table For example, you might want to extract all data for a single country or year or customer group Using the same technique of applying filter used for role based security would be nice Expose an API to automate the process of creating a PowerPivot workbook Use case: prepare one workbook for every employee containing only its data, that he can use offline Common request for salespeople who want a mini-BI tool to use in front of the customer/lead/supplier, regardless of a connection available This feature would increase the adoption of PowerPivot and Tabular (and, therefore, Business Intelligence licenses instead of Standard), and would probably raise the sales of Office 2013 / Office 365 driven by ISV, who are the companies who requests this feature more. If Microsoft would do this, it would be acceptable it only works on Office 2013. But if a third-party will do that, it will make sense (for their revenues) to cover both Excel 2010 and Excel 2013. Another important reason for this feature is that the “Offline cube” feature that you have in Excel is not available when your PivotTable is connected to a Tabular model, but it can only be used when you connect to Analysis Services Multidimensional.   • DDD and Value Objects. Are mutable Value Objects a good candidate for Non Aggr. Root Entity?

    Here is a little problem Have an entity, with a value object. Not a problem. I replace a value object for a new one, then nhibernate inserts the new value and orphan the old one, then deletes it. Ok, that's a problem. Insured is my entity in my domain. He has a collection of Addresses (value objects). One of the addresses is the MailingAddress. When we want to update the mailing address, let's say zipcode was wrong, following Mr. Evans doctrine, we must replace the old object for a new one since it's immutable (a value object right?). But we don't want to delete the row thou, because that address's PK is a FK in a MailingHistory table. So, following Mr. Evans doctrine, we are pretty much screwed here. Unless i make my addressses Entities, so i don't have to "replace" it, and simply update its zipcode member, like the old good days. What would you suggest me in this case? The way i see it, ValueObjects are only useful when you want to encapsulate a group of database table's columns (component in nhibernate). Everything that has a persistence id in the database, is better off to make it an Entity (not necessarily an aggregate root) so you can update its members without recreating the whole object graph, specially if that's a deep-nested object. Do you concur? Is it allowed by Mr. Evans to have a mutable value object? Or is a mutable value object a candidate for an Entity? Thanks

  • OpenVPN stopped working, what could have happened?

    I have Openvpn, and it worked great when I used it on PC (Windows 8), then I copied all files (Certificates and config) to an Android 4 phone to use them. Now, Openvpn works on the phone, but not the PC. Specifically, when I open Google I get: The server at www.google.com can't be found, because the DNS lookup failed, but the VPN seems to be connected. I have a simple question, could the problem be because I copied the same files?   • Too much I/O in the morning ?

    Interesting little improvement on a SQL 2005 system I encountered recently….. Some background - this system had a fairly ‘traditional OLTP’ workload ie  heavily used during day – till around 9pm, then had a batch window for several hours, then not much activity in the early hours of the day, until normal workload resumed the following morning. Using perfmon, I noticed that every morning, we would see a big spike in SQL Server I/O when the application started to be used... As it was 2005 I decided to look at what tables were in cache before and after the overnight batch processing ran… ( using DMV equivalent of dbcc memusage that I posted earlier). Here’s what I saw :-     So, contents of data cache split fairly evenly between my 'important/heavily used' tables.   After this:- some application batch processing,backups, DBCC checks and reindexes were run.  A fairly standard batch I'd suggest. Cache contents then looked like this :- Hmmmm – most of cache is now being used by a table I’ve described as ‘unimportant’. Why ? Well, that table was the last to be reindexed…. purely due to luck, as  the reindexing stored procedure performing a loop in alphabetical order through all application tables...  When the application starts to be used again – all this ‘unimportant’ data has to be replaced in cache by data that is heavily used… So, we changed the overnight reindex scripts –  the most heavily accessed tables are now the last to be reindexed. Obvious really, but we did see a significant reduction in early-morning I/O after changing the order of our reindexing.

    Here's an example that will explain things: Sheets("Plot Data July").Select ActiveSheet.ListObjects("tPDJuly").Range.AutoFilter Field:=2 ActiveSheet.ListObjects("tPDJuly").Range.AutoFilter Field:=4 So as you can see above, Field:=2 is a relative reference to the second field in the table called "tPDJuly". So now if I add more columns, this number does not get updated. The field is actually called "Grade" in the table. So is there a way of coding this so that no matter which column it is in, "Grade" is always updated? I suppose one solution is that we add a line that find what is the column number for "Grade"?

  • "Recipient address rejected" when sending an email to an external address with sendgrid

    In postfix, I'm using relay_host to send an email to an external address using sendgrid, but I get an error about local ricipient table when sending an email from my PHP code. This is my main.cf in /postfix/ ## -- Sendgrid smtp_sasl_auth_enable = yes smtp_sasl_password_maps = static:username:password smtp_sasl_security_options = noanonymous smtp_tls_security_level = may header_size_limit = 4096000 relayhost = [smtp.sendgrid.net]:587 This is the error message from the log: postfix/smtpd[53598]: [ID 197553 mail.info] NOQUEUE: reject: RCPT from localhost[127.0.0.1]: 550 5.1.1 Recipient address rejected: User unknown in local recipient table; from=<[email protected]> to=<[email protected]> proto=ESMTP helo=<localhost.localdomain> One interesting thing is when I use "sendmail [email protected]" from the command line, the email is delivered successfully using SendGrid. I think it's because this uses postfix/smtp instead of postfix/smtpD the log for this says, postfix/smtp[18670]: [ID 197553 mail.info] AAF7313A7E: to=, relay=smtp.sendgrid.net[50.97.69.148]:587, delay=4.1, delays=3.5/0.02/0.44/0.18, dsn=2.0.0, status=sent (250 Delivery in progress) Thank you

  • Collapsing Bookmarks

    I said I would tackle documenting some of the new features in the 10.1.3.4.1 roll up patch I mentioned last week. With the patch you can now set the default state of bookmarks (if you create them) in your PDF outputs. If your users prefer to see them all collapsed to the base level or may be collapsed to the second level to ease navigation; whatever they need. Its another opportunity for you to look like a star! You of course need to start with a table of contents; then add the convert|copy to bookmarks command. You can then add the new collapse command to set the appropriate level in the bookmarks. <?copy-to-bookmark:?> <?collapse-bookmark:show;2?> <<< Table of Contents >>> <?end convert-to-bookmark?> The command allows you to expand or collapse the bookmarks as you need. Of course you will know how many levels you will have in the final output document. The command takes the form: <?collapse-bookmark:show|hide;level int?> Some examples <?collapse-bookmark:hide;1?> <?collapse-bookmark:hide;2?> <?collapse-bookmark:hide;3?> Sample template and data here.   • Replicating/Synchronizng multiple tables across diffrent Databases on the same instance

    I have few tables that needed to be replicated/synchronized across several databases in our SQL Server 2008 cluster. I know it's possible to replicate between multiple instances, but I'm looking for replication or synchronization in the same instance between specific tables of databases. The replicaiton/synchronization should happen every half-hour or so, but I don't mind it happening constantly. I can't use DROP the target table and INSERT (copy) the source table since there are many constraints. Reason for this is to not manage in the application layer and write to 2 different databases at the same time. Example: DB1 has T1, T2 and T3 - these are constantly being updated by the application, APP1 running on DB1. DB2 needs to have an updated copy of T1 at all times, also, there is a different application, APP2 runs only on DB2. Both DB1 and DB2 are located on the same instance, INST1. Would it be possible to replicate T1, T2 and T3 from DB1 to DB2 ? Thanks, Idan.

  • MySQL Database synchronizing with local and remote with c#

    I've posted this here as its more of a mysql questions than c#, I have written some software that runs a local instance of mysql when it first starts, now once mysql is up I would like to synchronize the data between the remote database table and the local database table that the software runs (it shouldn't sync any other databases / tables as there are a lot). I have replication setup to synchronize the entire database to another server which works unless the server goes down then it never comes back up, so based on that I don't think replication will work as when the software is closed it also closes MySQL. So what would be the best method of synchronizing the remote and local databases?

  • Data Pump: Consistent Export?

    Ouch ... I have to admit as I did say in several workshops in the past weeks that a data pump export with expdp is per se consistent. Well ... I thought it is ... but it's not. Thanks to a customer who is doing a large unicode migration at the moment. We were discussing parameters in the expdp's par file. And I did ask my colleagues after doing some research on MOS. And here are the results of my "research": MOS Note 377218.1 has a nice example showing a data pump export of a partitioned table with DELETEs on that table as inconsistent Background:Back in the old 9i days when Data Pump was designed flashback technology wasn't as popular and well known as today - and UNDO usage was the major concern as a consistent per default export would have heavily relied on UNDO. That's why - similar to good ol' exp - the export won't operate per default in consistency mode To get a consistent data pump export with expdp you'll have to set: FLASHBACK_TIME=SYSTIMESTAMPin your parameter file. Then it will be consistent according to the timestamp when the process has been started. You could use FLASHBACK_SCN instead and determine the SCN beforehand if you'd like to be exact. So sorry if I had proclaimed a feature which unfortunately is not there by default - Mike

    Hello, I ran the excellent MySQL performance tuning script and started to work through the suggestions. One I ran into was TABLE CACHE Current table_cache value = 4096 tables You have a total of 1073 tables. You have 3900 open tables. Current table_cache hit rate is 2%, while 95% of your table cache is in use. You should probably increase your table_cache I started to read up on the table_cache but found the MySQL documentation quite lacking. They do say to increase the table_cache, "if you have the memory". Unfortunately the table_cache variable is defined as "The number of open tables for all threads." How will the memory used by MySQL change, if I increase this variable? What is a good value, to set it to?

  • Will BIOS boot mode Ubuntu install be able to boot when firmware "Fast Boot" is "Ultra Fast"?

    I have an AsRock mainboard with UEFI BIOS P1.50 02/14/2014. The firmware "Fast Boot" option is set to "Fast", Boot Option #1 is set to "AHCI P4: OCZ-VERT...": this is BIOS not UEFI boot. This boot disk has an MBR partitioning scheme (# parted -l | grep Partition\ Table:). Therefore Ubuntu 14.04 is installed in BIOS/CMS (Grub-PC) mode. The Ubuntu boot process ends in a text console (no GUI). There is no external graphics card in use. The stock Ubuntu kernel is replaced with Ubuntu supplied mainline 3.16.0-031600rc6-generic. dmesg outputs lines containing BIOS, like: SMBIOS 2.7 present Calgary: detecting Calgary via BIOS EBDA area Calgary: Unable to locate Rio Grande table in EBDA - bailing! [Firmware Bug]: ACPI: BIOS _OSI(Linux) query ignored BIOS EDD facility v0.16 2004-Jun-25, 0 devices found The ASRock BIOS it selves display this help text for "Ultra Fast - Fast Boot": Ultra Fast mode is only supported by Windows 8 and the VBIOS must support UEFI GOP if you are using an external graphics card. Please notice that Ultra Fast mode will boot so fast that the only way to enter this UEFI Setup Utility is to Clear CMOS or run the Restart to UEFI utility in Windows. Assumptions: I suspect after changing UEFI setting "Fast Boot" to "Ultra Fast" that the machine will no longer boot into Ubuntu's console. I expect when first exchanging "Grub-pc" with "Grub-efi", that the machine will still be able to boot to a grub menu (thus allowing to change the "Fast Boot" setting back to "Fast" without clearing CMOS). Are these two "Fast Boot" assumptions correct, and/or, may I expect Ubuntu 14.04 running mainline kernel 3.16rc6 and Grub-efi to still boot to console after enabling UEFI Ultra Fast Boot?
