We've been having some trouble lately with our site timing out during times of high traffic.
We're working on a number of things to resolve it. During this process I came across our server diagnostics page on Rackspace, and it has the following line:
The host server's load is: 0.08 0.08 0.03 1/204 2437
I couldn't find an explanation on their site or Google. Can anyone explain what these numbers mean? For I am a lowly programmer.
Much appreciated,
-Ben
I've got two VMware Workstation virtual machines running ...
Virtual A can ping the host laptop most of the time, other real machines on my home network all of the time, but it gets a "request timed out" for virtual B
Virtual B can ping the host laptop most of the time, and the machines, both real and virtual A all of the time
The only difference I know of is virtual B has been joined to my works domain, whereas virtual A is still in workgroup mode
Can anyone explain how / why this is occurring ?
I noticed that I have been seeing this term floating around the blogs and I recently saw it again on a Kijiji.com intership posting. I cannot find definition on this term on google. I don't know what a web guru does so I did not apply for it. Anyone care to explain to me what it means and what it does?
Only slightly related to this question, because it was discovered in the same scan:
Can someone explain how this happened?
When running netdiscover on my home network, my iPod Touch (identified by DHCP-reserved IP address and MAC address) responded to both its own IP address on our 10.x.x.x subnet and to 0.0.0.0 also. Why would this have happened?
EDIT: After letting netdiscover run awhile longer, it seems one of the PS3s on the network is also answering to 0.0.0.0 - why is this?
The question describes everything, how does allmyapps work? With a single click (like iPhone app store), you click on install and my system asks me "DO you want to install?"
In contrast to regular installation, we 1st download the .exe or .deb and install it.
So, how is it possible via web?
I think, I am missing out on something very basic, but can some one please explain.
I have two Ubuntu 12.04 servers, which run mysql in a master-master setup, with mmm as manager. How can I set up heartbeat to make sure that mmm only runs at one node at the time?
*Edit to explain more clearly
My setup:
---------VIP (10.0.0.123)------
| |
Node1 Node2
Where bot Node1 and Node2 run:
Mysql
Multi-Master Replication Manager for MySQL (mmm)
Heartbeat
I only want a single write enabled mysql node, and I can only have one mmm running at the time, else I'll get collision between the managers.
I downloaded Azureus (a bittorrent client) for Debian Linux, and I notice that Azureus got my firewall (a Verizon wireless base station) to open a TCP and UDP port forwarding for it, without my having to do anything. My base station is password protected, and I'm alarmed at the idea that any random application can open ports without my knowing about it.
Can somebody explain to me what is going on and how it is possible that Azureus can create this port-forwarding rule without any authentication?
What resources (books, Web pages etc) exist out there that:
explain the causes of latency in TCP/IP-over-Ethernet networks;
mention tools for looking out for things that cause latency (e.g. certain entries in netstat -s);
suggest ways to tweak the Linux TCP stack to reduce TCP latency (Nagle, socket buffers etc).
The closest I am aware of is this document, but it's rather brief.
Alternatively, you're welcome to answer the above questions directly.
Hi All,
Someone told me that one can enable Windows Mobile simply by creating a bunch of registry values as explained in this TechEd article.
The article is in the scopê of MS System Configuration Manager but my client tells me that the logs can be created even without System Config Manager. I tried but I couldn't get the system to create any such log file.
Can anyone explain how to get this logs (or why I can't get them)?
TIA,
Sorry if I am completely wrong but in most photos I see of user's networks I have been seeing what appears to be a switc which then runs all the cat5/cat6 wires to another box that looks like a switch. What is the purose of doing this? Below is a photo to explain what I am trying to ask about better.
Can someone explain to me in plain English what SIP trunking is, please? I've read about it on Google, but I don't really grasp it yet. Does it allow a VoIP call to be placed outside of the LAN? So if you had Asterisk setup as the PBX, then IP calls could be made outside of the network? Am I close or am I just saying stupid words?
Hi, i have a exam to do at home but there is a question that i can't solve :S ... can anybody help me about that question (( i google it with diffrent ways but can't found anything as answer))

I need to upgrade OpenSSL on my CentOS server to 0.9.8k or higher, however the latest version in the official CentOS repositories is 0.9.8e, much too old. Is there a 3rd party repository I can use that has newer versions of OpenSSL libraries? If not, can someone provide a quick walkthrough of compiling a newer version of OpenSSL for CentOS? I need it to replace the built in version, so the walkthrough would have to explain how to create a CentOS-compatible RPM.
We have DFS setup using the DFS Management Administrator Tool. I turned on replication in the Distributed File System Administrator Tool as well and this morning we lost tons of files from that share. Please explain to me why this was wrong and if there is anything that can be done to repair it. (No, we don't have backups. We have some shadow copies, but those were deleted as well. We have been using DFS as its own backup)
I'm trying to remap a bunch of my keys and I'm running into trouble. I'm currently trying to use xmodmap but failing. Maybe there is a better way?
Can someone explain how I can best remap ctrl-j on the keyboard to produce ctrl-c?
It's not as easy as just making j=c. I want this happen only when I'm holding down ctrl.
i created a .bat script to perform daily folder compression. it is working fine when i double click the .bat file. However, it doesnt work when i include it in window scheduler.
Below is the script:
rem ****************************
rem ** To create back up file **
rem ****************************
"C:\Program Files\WinZip\WINZIP32.EXE" -a -r -p "E:\Backup\Daily\sst.zip" "P:\SST\*.*"
When i run it via window scheduler, the status is always "running" but nothing is generated. Can someone explain the situation?
Hi, my task is to setup a MAMP webserver for our website in the easiest way so it can be managed by my colleagues without experience in server administration. MAMP PRO is an excellent solution, but some guys don't suggest to use it for serving external requests.
Could you explain why it is bad (in details if possible) and how to make it secure enough to be a full-scale and not-only-local webserver?
Is there a better solution?

When I type a command
$ grep \\h junk
then shell should interpret \\h as \h as two pairs of \ become \ each,
and grep in turn, should interpret \h as \h as \ becomes \, so grep should
search for a pattern \h in junk, which it is doing successfully.
But it's not working for \\$. Please explain why ?

I would like to use a backup tool like Acronis or Crashplan in case I encounter a serious problem with my computer and I want to restore it like it is right now. They both have a free trial of 30 days but they do not seem to explain explicitly what won't be functional after the trial period. Is the restore feature still available after the trial period or must my computer die within the 30 days for this trial to be useful?
I am new to Windows 2008 and IIS 7. With the default installation, IIS 7 has a Default Website. For my application, do I create a new Website outside of Default Website or createa Virtual Directory or Application within the Default Website?
Can someone explain the differences?
Thank you
