• Wildcard mapping in IIS 7.0 not working

  I can't seem to get the ASP.NET engine to handle ALL wildcard mapping. When I try to make a request that is supposed to be handled by the asp.net engine, i get a 404 error from the StaticFile handler Here is the content of my web.config file. • ConfigurationManager.AppSettings is empty?

  Hello All, I have a VS2008 ASP.NET Web Service Application running on the local IIS of my XP machine. A separate project in the same solution uses test methods to invoke the WS calls, and run their processes. When I added a web reference to the WS App, VS2008 created a Settings.settings file in the Properties folder to store the address of the web reference. This process also created a new section in the Web.config file called applicationSettings to store the values from Settings.settings When my application attempts to retrieve configuration values from the appSettings section of the Web.config file, via ConfigurationManager.AppSettings[key], all values are null and AppSettings.AllKeys.Length is always zero. I even reverted the Web.config file to before the web reference was added, and made sure it was exactly the same as a system-generated web.config file for a new project that works fine. After comparing the reverted Web.config and a new Web.config, I addded one simple value in the appSettings section, and still no luck with ConfigurationManager.AppSettings[key]. • ASP.NET Creating a Rich Repeater, DataBind wiping out custom added controls...

  So...I had this clever idea that I'd create my own Repeater control that implements paging and sorting by inheriting from Repeater and extending it's capabilities. I found some information and bits and pieces on how to go about this and everything seemed ok... I created a WebControlLibrary to house my custom controls. Along with the enriched repeater, I created a composite control that would act as the "pager bar", having forward, back and page selection. My pager bar works 100% on it's own, properly firing a paged changed event when the user interacts with it. The rich repeater databinds without issue, but when the databind fires (when I call base.databind()), the control collection is cleared out and my pager bars are removed. This screws up the viewstate for the pager bars making them unable to fire their events properly or maintain their state. I've tried adding the controls back to the collection after base.databind() fires, but that doesn't solve the issue. I start to get very strange results including problems with altering the hierarchy of the control tree (resolved by adding [ViewStateModeById]). Before I go back to the drawing board and create a second composite control which contains a repeater and the pager bars (so that the repeater isn't responsible for the pager bars viewstate) are there any thoughts about how to resolve the issue? In the interest of share and share alike, the code for the repeater itself is below, the pagerbars aren't as significant as the issue is really the maintaining of state for any additional child controls. • Why won't jqGrid won't populate initially in Chrome

  Hi, I've got a web page with a jqGrid that uses am xmlreader to populate itself with data that is spat out by a RoR service. The page loads fine in firefox and safari. In Chrome however I get a blank grid. In Chrome however I get a blank grid. • Networking issues with Linux server (CentOS 5.3)

  I have a Linux server hosting our bug tracking software (CentOS 5.2 Kernel 2.6.18-128.4.1.el5) that I have having some strange network problems with. The machine is configured with two NICS, one for the public interface and the other for our server back end network. The problem is that after doing a service network restart I can ping the public interface and it sends anywhere from 200-500 ICMP packets and then all of a sudden I start getting a request timed out error. Strange but as soon as I connect to the private interface the ping starts working again to the public interface. I clearly have a routing issue somewhere. I have a Juniper Router with the following configuration. Interface 0/0 -- Connect subnet to the ISP at our co-location Interface 0/2 -- For our DRAC network Interface 0/3 -- The Server-backend network (plugs directly into a switch that feeds to all the NICs that are on the 10.3.20.x network. Interface 0/4 -- Plugs directly into another switch that feeds our public interfaces, that interface as all the gateways from our public ip rangs as secondary IP addresses. I hope that someone can ask the right questions that can lead me to check things and figure out what is going on. Has anyone had similar problems and what kind of things should I be checking?   I have a new iMac with OS X 10.7 (Lion) on it that refuses to connect to a PPTP-based VPN server (running Windows 2003 SBS). To shortcut past a lot of questions: There is a Dell workstation running Windows 7 on the same LAN as the Mac that is able to establish a PPTP connection to the same VPN server using the same credentials. I've tried completely deleting the entire VPN "connection" from the Network prefpane and recreating it from scratch. I am certain the connection details are correct because they exactly match what successfully connects from the Win7 machine sitting next to the iMac. Any suggestions?

• VMWare Network bug in multiple VMWare Workstation versions if using a hardcoded IP address

  I'm having a very tricky problem with some of my VM sessions being unable to reach the Internet or even ping the gateway. I have just set up a new VM Workstation (7) on a W2K8 64bit server (I'll be converting to ESXI 4 once I can find a decent book on it, so for the meanwhile I use workstation). I have imported a number of VM's and setup some new ones on the server.In short the problem with some of the VM's being unable to reach the Internet is that they can't reach the gateway. I've looking at a number of things and can pretty safely rule out the following: Switch, Router, DHCP Server, DNS, Client IP configuration, Routes and typos. The problem is that some of the new clients cannot reach the gateway if their IP address is hardcoded, they can't even ping it by IP address. That rules out DNS and DHCP. Now, if I allow them to get their IP address by DHCP they can reach the gateway and Internet without issue. The interesting thing on this, is that this behavior occurs even if I leave the DNS information hardcoded under TCP/IP settings. It doesn't work unless the IP and gateway are handed out by DHCP even though the same information IP info is being used by the host. Fundamentally from the standpoint of the clients, they are trying to reach the exact same gateway using the exact same IP information regardless of whether they are hardcoded or assigned by DHCP. Here's an example of one client. IP Address 192.168.7.66 - Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 - Gateway 192.168.7.254 - DNS1 192.168.7.44 - DNS2 192.168.7.254. The issue occurs across six different microsoft operating systems, Windows 7 and Windows 2008 variants all have the issue. My W2K3, XP, Vista and W98 clients all work without issue with hardcoded IP addresses. I have tried things like rearranging the DNS order, flushing DNS and so on. It's not a routing or switch issue as the clients can work just fine if they get their IP by DHCP. It's not a paramater issue as the exact same paramaters are handed out by DHCP as I plug in by hand. It's not a DNS issue as clients cant reach other clients even with IP addresses only. I have run a tracert to the gateway by IP address and it times out on the very first hop before failing on hop3 with destination host unreachable. If I get the IP address by DHCP the tracert finds the gateway (and Internet) without issue. I have read a few other posts online in forums talking about this problem randomly occuring over the years in other VM versions as well, so I suspect some kind of long standing bug. Does anyone have any ideas on this? Is it possibly a bug with Windows 7 and W2K clients under VM?

I've got Ubuntu 12.04vm installed on 12.04 host in Virtualbox 4.2.4 set to - Bridged network mode - Promiscuous Allow All When I try to ping the virtual guest from any network client I get the expected result. • Using WSUS Admin Console from outside domain

  Environment: I have a workstation on our primary domain. We have a primary WSUS Server that is the upstream server of 8 different testing domains. The Primary WSUS server is not part of any domain. Routing is configured between my workstation and the Primary WSUS server. I can RDP to the Primary WSUS sever without any problem. The router is configured to forward any any between my workstation and the Primary WSUS server. This WSUS server cannot be part of a domain due to external requirements (I can't change them) on the lab I work in. The version of WSUS is WSUS 3.0 SP 2 What I want to do: I need to connect to the WSUS server with the WSUS Admin console from my local workstation. The end goal is to connect via Powershell and manage with that. I also need to take what I do here and port it to the 8 test domains so I can manage those WSUS servers. The routing is all in place so I can talk to the servers, it's just connecting to the WSUS console that is causing problems. The problem: I cannot get my workstation to connect to the WSUS Console. I get one of the following errors depending on the setup. 1st error: Cannot connect to 'WSUS'. You do not have the permissions required to access this WSUS server. To connect to the server you must be a member of the WSUS Administrators or WSUS Reporters security groups I also get the warning 7012 from the event log that says the same thing. 2nd error: Cannot connect to 'WSUS'. The server may be using another port or different Secure Sockets Layer setting. What I have tried: So far I have configured IIS for Anonymous Authentication on both the WSUS Administration and ApiRemoting30 using an account will call WSUS_User. With this in place, I get the 1st error. When I do this though, the local WSUS Console cannot be used either. Reverting back to only Windows Authentication allows the local console to work, but the remote console now give the 2nd error. I have confirmed the port, and that there is no SSL in use (which is a policy that is pushed from above, that I cannot effect). I have placed WSUS_User in the groups mentioned above, but it still does not connect. I made sure WSUS_User has full access on C:\Program Files\Update Services and C:\Program Files\Update Services\WebServices I am not very familiar with the workings of WSUS or IIS, and have gone as far as I can figure out on my own. Googling these errors all take me to the same steps about Anonymous Authentication and configuring permissions on folders. Note: I have cross-posted this to StackOverflow as well.

• Ubuntu 12.04: apt-get "failed to fetch"; apt is trying to fetch via old static IP

  Sample error: W: Failed to fetch http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/precise-security/universe/i18n/Translation-en Unable to connect to 192.168.1.70:8118: Now this was working just fine until I changed the IP this morning. I have the server set to a static IP of 10.0.1.70 and for years it has been 192.168.1.70 - the IP apt-get is trying to use right now. I use privoxy and tor thus the 8118 port. Like I said it all worked until I changed the static IP from 192.168.1.70 to 10.0.1.70. I was forced to do so because of router issues. (Long and involved story, I didn't really want to change the IP because I know something like this would happen.) The setup for TOR/Privoxy requires that has you point Privoxy at TOR via 127.0.0.1:9050. Then point curl, etc to Privoxy via $HOME/.bashrc. Typically you would set the listen to IP for Privoxy to 127.0.0.1 but if you want it accessible to the rest of the LAN you set the IP to the server's LAN IP. Which I did a long time ago and was working fine until this morning. I have changed all instances of 192.168.1.70 to 10.0.1.70 in both /etc/privoxy/config and $HOME/.bashrc. What makes this really strange for me is that curl is working fine. I curl icanhazip.com and voila I get a new IP every 10 minutes or so. I curl CNN.com and I get the short but sweet permanently moved to www.cnn.com message I expect. Firefox works fine. Ping works fine. And I've tested all of this via Remote Desktop over my LAN. So the connection appears to be fine for everything except apt. I've also rebooted hoping that would clear 192.168.1.70 from apt. So the connection to the internet and DNS aren't an issue for these programs. And they are, as far as I can tell, using Privoxy/TOR just fine. The real irony here is that I've tried to open up Privoxy to go to Ubuntu's servers directly without going through TOR to speed up the downloads from Ubuntu (did this months ago). So somewhere that I have not been able to find, apt has stored the IP 192.168.1.70. And 192.168.1.70 is no longer valid. Thanks for the help

  We recently switched our server to require TLS for every connection. This is working flawlessly so far, but one of our clients is having problems. • Cannot run a VM with more than three network interfaces with KVM

  I'm running KVM on top of Ubuntu 10.10 Server I can create VM's (Virtual Machine) and network interfaces fine but I cannot seem to add more than three network interfaces. As soon as I have a VM with four network interfaces it gets stuck on startup at the starting SeaBIOS page with this message: Starting SeaBIOS (version pre-0.6.1-20100702_143500-palmer) So far I've verified this with two VM's, a Ubuntu 10.10 desktop and a Vyatta router. The specific network hardware I assign to the VM's doesn't seem to matter. I'm trying to have one bridged interface and three private networks using Vyatta to route between them. Does anyone know why I can't run a VM with more than three network interfaces? Edit: Additionally the KVM thread responsible for the specific VM hangs using ~100% CPU (i.e. one core). • dnsmasq acts as the DHCP server for selected nodes overriding the existing DHCP server on the same LAN?

  I am trying to set up a small "lab" at home. Like many modern homes, I have a regular DSL service which comes with a 2Wire 3600HGV router, which acts also as a DHCP server. Since I would like to PXE boot a few computers in my "lab" The 2Wire is inflexible to adjustments that I want to do I have used dnsmasq at work so I would like to use dnsmasq as the DHCP server for the few nodes in my "lab" if feasible. In the dnsmasq man page, there is the following: [...] -K, --dhcp-authoritative (IPv4 only) Should be set when dnsmasq is definitely the only DHCP server on a network. It changes the behaviour from strict RFC compliance so that DHCP requests on unknown leases from unknown hosts are not ignored. This allows new hosts to get a lease without a tedious timeout under all circumstances. It also allows dnsmasq to rebuild its lease database without each client needing to reacquire a lease, if the database is lost. [...] As far as I know, the ISC DHCP server can use the following to do what I would like to accomplish: authoritative; [...] subnet 192.168.1.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 { host nb0 { # only give DHCP information to this computer: hardware ethernet e8:9a:8f:17:70:42; fixed-address 192.168.1.10; option subnet-mask 255.255.255.0; option routers 192.168.1.254; option domain-name-servers 192.168.1.254; # Non-essential DHCP options filename "/pxelinux.0"; } [...] But I much prefer dnsmasq's "all-in-one-ness". My question: do I have to couple the -K option with something else? As shown in the example above, the ISC DHCP server requires the mac addresses of managed nodes to be explicitly specified. Does dnsmasq have something similar? FYI, the machine on which I plan to run dnsmasq runs CentOS 6.3 64bit. It has a statically assigned IP address: 192.168.1.3.

• Persistent Issues on small business network using Cisco 871W and Catalyst Express 500

  Being the most qualified (read: still not qualified) to solve our persistant network issues, I've turned to serverfault for guidance. I've done some searching, reading related documentation on cisco.com and tried a bit of troubleshooting. Here is the config: 100mb synchronous connection from a business internet provider (tested multiple times at 100meg at the source) Cisco 871W wireless point & router is where the WAN connection starts (this serves all our wireless). The only wired connection in the 871W is the Catalyst switch listed below. Cisco Catalyst Express 500 (24TT) is where all the wired connections terminate. About 20 Windows workstations and servers (AD/Webservers only). Some services in EC2 including mail and other web servers/apps. I've been TOLD cabling internally should be gigabit-ready. Here are the problems: generally slow download rates from the internet to the desktop/laptop frequent "page cannot be displayed" errors in browsers-sometimes 3 or 4 reloads are necessary... often times CSS wont load or other content requiring the browser to connect to a different server. slow speed within the LAN from workstation to workstation copying files. I would expect extremely fast data transfer workstation to workstation / server to workstation in this simple network. Several things I need to admit: I'm not primarily a network guy. Funding is relatively low, I need to be the guy that finds the solution. I understand most of the terminology and most of the technology. Implementation is where I fail due to lack of experience. Getting to the point: I'm wondering whether experienced network admins think that our small network should be sufficiently served with our current hardware if configured properly... or if we should purchase new equipment and start fresh? If starting fresh is the plan, whatever that new equipment may be is a likely different question entirely. If I haven't provided enough information, I will happily do some troubleshooting and update with the results. I have experience using wireshark and some other tools. Please let me know what you think would be most helpful and thanks in advance. EDIT: I forgot to add that the Cisco applicance will not finish loading the SDM Express console. It hangs every time at the "populating modules... DHCP". It eventually crashes and closes. I've rebooted the hardware and this still happens.
