  • Android internet connectivity check problem

    - by Chaoz
    Hello, I'm new to Android development and working on an Android application that requires the phone to be connected to the internet, through either Wifi, EDGE or 3G. This is the code that I'm using: public static boolean isConnected() { ConnectivityManager cm = (ConnectivityManager) getSystemService(Context.CONNECTIVITY_SERVICE); return cm.getActiveNetworkInfo().isConnectedOrConnecting(); } I've also set these permissions in the manifest file: <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET" /> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE" /> This works fine in the emulator running version 1.5 of Android when 3G is enabled, but it crashes when I disable the 3G connection. My application throws a null pointer exception when I call isConnectedOrConnecting(). Hope that anyone knows the solution to this. Thanks in advance!

  • C# StringBuilder question

    - by andrew
    in a C# file i have a class Archiver { [DllImport("Archiver.dll")] public static extern void archive(string data, StringBuilder response); } string data is an input, and StringBuilder response is where the function writes something the archive function prototype (written in C) looks like this: void archive(char * dataChr, char * outChr); and it receives a string in dataChr, and then does a strcpy(outChr,"some big text"); from C# i call it something like this: string message = "some text here"; StringBuilder response = new StringBuilder(10000); Archiver.archive(message, response); this works, but the problem, as you might see is that i give a value to the StringBuilder size, but the archive function might give back a (way) larger text than the size i've given to my StringBuilder. any way to fix this?

  • How to pass around event as parameter in c#

    - by Jerry Liu
    Am writing unit test for a multi-threading application, where I need to wait until a specific event triggered so that I know the asyn operation is done. E.g. When I call repository.add(something), I wait for event AfterChange before doing any assertion. So I write a util function to do that. public static void SyncAction(EventHandler event_, Action action_) { var signal = new object(); EventHandler callback = null; callback = new EventHandler((s, e) => { lock (signal) { Monitor.Pulse(signal); } event_ -= callback; }); event_ += callback; lock (signal) { action_(); Assert.IsTrue(Monitor.Wait(signal, 10000)); } } However, the compiler prevents from passing event out of the class. Is there a way to achieve that?

  • what the java command's -jar option really does

    - by JBoy
    Does the -jar option of the java command also compile the sources before running the main method? I believe so but i would like to have a better understanding of the internal process, from the man page you can clearly see a small workflow sequence: -jar Execute a program encapsulated in a JAR file. The first argument is the name of a JAR file instead of a startup class name. In order for this option to work, the manifest of the JAR file must contain a line of the form Main-Class: classname. Here, classname identifies the class having the public static void main(String[] args) method that serves as your application's starting point. See the Jar tool reference page and the Jar trail of the Java Tutorial @ But it does not mention that it compiles the sources.

  • Doubt in abstract classes

    - by mohit
    public abstract class Person { private String name; public Person(String name) { this.name = name; System.out.println("Person"); } public String getName() { return name; } abstract public String getDescription(); } public class Student extends Person { private String major; public Student(String name, String major) { super(name); this.major = major; } public String getMajor() { return major; } @Override public String getDescription() { return "student" + super.getName() + " having" + major; } } public class PersonTest { public static void main(String[] args) { Person person = new Student("XYZ", "ABC"); System.out.println(person.getDescription()); } } Ques: We cannot create objects of abstract classes, then why Person Constructor has been invoked, even its an abstract class?

  • Java heap size - will this work?

    - by UnCon
    Hi, I try this with NetBeans desktop application template - increasing heapsize (to 512 MiB) of executed .jar file. (I believe that NetBeans uses Singleton app by default - SingleFrameView) Will it work? public static void main(String[] args) { if (args == null) { args = new String[1]; args[0] = "Xmx512m"; } else { String[] tempArgs = new String[args.length+1]; for (int i=0; i<args.length; i++) { tempArgs[i] = args[i]; } tempArgs[tempArgs.length-1] = "Xmx512m"; args = tempArgs; } launch(MyApp.class, args); } }

  • Downloading files in ASP.Net MVC web applications

    - by kingrichard2005
    Hello, I'm working on a project that requires the ability to let a user download a pdf from a static location on the server. I'm reading the instructions from this website, it's an old post and I notice they specify in an update that Microsoft's MVC framework has long since included and Action Result that allows the same functionality they discuss thus rendering it obsolete, I've looked a bit online but haven't been able to find any resources that discuss this built-in functionality. If anyone has any links or other information that discuss this it would be very helpful. Thanks.

  • "input cannot be resolved" when added a try..catch

    - by Mark
    I originally tried to get my throw statement to work without a try catch and the userInput = input.nextInt(); line worked fine. But when I tried adding the try..catch it didn't like my input saying it cannot be resolved. I don't think my try..catch is correct yet but I am planning on tackling that after I can get this input to be recognized but I would appreciate any feedback on things you see with that as well. Thanks import java.util.Scanner; public class Program6 { public static void main(String[] args) { final int NUMBER_HIGH_LIMIT = 100; final int NUMBER_LOW_LIMIT = 10; int userInput; try { System.out.print("Enter a number between 10 and 100: "); userInput = input.nextInt();//Says input cannot be resolved Verify v = new Verify(NUMBER_HIGH_LIMIT, NUMBER_LOW_LIMIT); } catch(NumberHighException exception) { userInput = 0; } catch(NumberLowException exception) { userInput = 0; } } }

  • C Class Instance from Void Pointer using Ctypes

    - by g.d.d.c
    I've got a C DLL that exposes a handful of methods that return void pointers to a Class like so: void *GetLicense() { static AppLicenseImpl ipds_; return (void *) &ipds_; } In C++, after loading the DLL, I'd do this to work with it: typedef void *(* FPGetLicense)(); GetLicense_ = (FPGetLicense)GetAddress("GetLicense"); license_ = (AppLicense *) GetLicense_(); license_->GetApplicationStatus(); // Load data so that other calls don't fail I can't figure out how to parallel that in Python. This gets me the pointer: d = ctypes.cdll.LoadLibrary('license.dll') d.GetLicense.restype = ctypes.c_void_p p = d.GetLicense() # returns ptr loc, something like 8791433660848L But I obviously can't call p.GetApplicationStatus() in Python. Does anyone have a suggestion on how I'd instantiate that Class the rest of the way in Python so that I can call GetApplicationStatus()?

  • Vim and clang_complete, how to explicitly compile my code

    - by puller
    I use Vim with clang_complete for omnicompletion. The plugin is automatically triggered when I need completion, e.g., after I type . or -> to access an object members or methods (see attached screenshot). The plugin works really nice, however I would need a way to trigger it manually (i.e. to compile my code for syntax checking). This is useful for two reasons: Static syntax checking Clear previous errors which have been fixed (which otherwise will remain in their buffer). See the two screenshots below for a better understanding. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. Screenshot 1 Screenshot 2

  • Compiling Qt for Windows 98

    - by wrp
    I need to support Windows 98. The Qt documentation claims this is possible, but there are no instructions. The distributed binaries don't run on Win98 and the majority of Qt applications I have sampled also don't. For several apps that do run on 98, I have asked authors how they did it, but the common answer is that it was accidental and they don't know what factors caused it. In searching the forums for help, I found only guesses that turned out to be wrong. For example, one belief is that to compile for Win9x, you must build the tools and the apps on that platform. Yet, things I found to run were built on newer versions of Windows. What is required to build the Qt dev tools and then applications for Win98? How about cross-compiling from WinXP or Linux? Are there specific components that can't be made to run on Win98? Are there particular difficulties with dynamic or static linking for Win98 support?

  • Extension method question. Why do I need to use someObj = someObj.somemethod();

    - by Kettenbach
    Hi All, I have a simple extension method that I would like to use to add an item to an array of items. public static T[] addElement<T>(this T[] array, T elementToAdd) { var list = new List<T>(array) {elementToAdd}; return list.ToArray(); } this works ok, but when I use it, I am having to set the array equal to the return value. I see that I am returning an Array. I likely want this method to be void, but I would like the item added. Does anyone have any ideas on what I need to do , to make this work the way I am wanting? Instead of someArray = someArray.addElement(item), I just want to do someArray.addElement(item) and then someArray be ready to go. What am I missing here? Thanks, ~ck in San Diego

  • Overriding a method in statically created objects

    - by I82Much
    All, Due to a bug in a library I'm using, I need to override the dispose() method on all objects extending a certain class and make it a NO-OP. I know that if I'm making new instances of the classes directly, this is easy to do: layerManager = new LayerManagerLayer(wwd) { @Override public void dispose() {} }; The problem is that a lot of the object instances I get are not directly constructed by my client code, but instead are created via static library method calls. // Here I want to override the dispose method, but I cannot. Layer l = ShapefileLoader.makeShapefileLayer(this.getClass().getResource("polylines10.shp")); Is there a way I can inject my dispose method into that statically created object without modifying the original sourcecode?

  • why primitive type will call first rather than wrapper classes?

    - by kandarp
    Hello EveryOne, public class A { public void test(Integer i) { System.out.println("In Wrapper Method"); } public void test(int i) { System.out.println("In primitive Method"); } public static void main(String args[]) { A a = new A(); a.test(5); } } When I will call test method from main and pass integer argument, then it will call the method which accept primitive type as argument. I just want to know that why it call primitive type method rather than the method who accepts wrapper class as argument? Is there any rule, which java follow to call methods? Thanks,

  • List all files from a directory recursively with Java

    - by Hultner
    Okay I got this function who prints the name of all files in a directory recursively problem is that it's very slow and it gets the stuff from a network device and with my current code it has to access the device time after time. What I would want is to first load all the files from the directory recursively and then after that go through all files with the regex to filter out all the files I don't want. Unless anyone got a better suggestion. I've never before done anything like this. public static printFnames(String sDir){  File[] faFiles = new File(sDir).listFiles();  for(File file: faFiles){ if(file.getName().matches("^(.*?)")){   System.out.println(file.getAbsolutePath()); }   if(file.isDirectory()){     printFnames(file.getAbsolutePath());   }  } } This is just a test later on I'm not going to use the code like this, instead I'm going to add the path and modification date of every file which matches an advanced regex to an array.

  • Running a java program in linux terminal with -class path

    - by Arya
    Hello I've been trying for an hour to run the following program with a the postgresql classpath class Test{ public static void main(String[] args){ try { Class.forName("org.postgresql.Driver"); } catch (ClassNotFoundException cnfe) { System.err.println("Couldn't find Postgresql driver class!"); } } } The program compiled fine with the javac command, but I'm having a hard time running it with the postgresql classpath. I have "postgresql-9.0-801.jdbc4.jar" in the same directory as the file and I tried the following, but non of them worked java -classpath ./postgresql-9.0-801.jdbc4.jar Test java -classpath postgresql-9.0-801.jdbc4.jar Test java -classpath "postgresql-9.0-801.jdbc4.jar" Test What am I doing wrong? • CSS: Explicitly declaring position, padding, margin, and overflow for every item?

    - by DavidR
    I've been working for a guy whose been teaching me css. I made a website based on his designs which I'm pretty proud of, but he got back to me saying that I need to explicitly declare the padding, margin, position, and overflow (specifically every item should have "overflow:hidden") on every item. Is there any basis to this at all? Is there anything I can use to refute this? I thought that declaring something like div,span,h1,[...] {padding:0;margin:0;postion:static;overflow:hidden} would take care of everything due to the cascade.

  • prevent using functions before initialization, constructors-like in C

    - by Hernán Eche
    This is the way I get to prevent funA,funB,funC, etc.. for being used before init #define INIT_KEY 0xC0DE //any number except 0, is ok static int initialized=0; int Init() { //many init task initialized=INIT_KEY; } int funA() { if (initialized!=INIT_KEY) return 1 //.. } int funB() { if (initialized!=INIT_KEY) return 1 //.. } int funC() { if (initialized!=INIT_KEY) return 1 //.. } The problem with this approach is that if some of those function is called within a loop so "if (initialized!=INIT_KEY)" is called again, and again, although it's not necessary. It's a good example of why constructors are useful haha, If it were an object I would be sure that when was created initialization was called, but in C, I don't know how to do it. Any other ideas are welcome!

  • Why does this TableView code work?

    - by nevan
    I made a typo when creating a UITableViewCell with this code: - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { static NSString *CellIdentifier = @"CellIdentifier"; UITableViewCell *cell = [self.tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier]; if (cell == nil) { NSLog(@"Creating cell"); cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewStylePlain reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier] autorelease]; } cell.textLabel.text = @"Hello"; return cell; } The typo is in using UITableViewStylePlain instead of UITableViewCellStyleDefault. The code worked fine, creating new cells. Why?

  • Visual Studio 2008\Backup Files folder created when every new VS instance is opened.

    - by Lukasz Podolak
    Hi, I think I have something broken with the path that VS 2008 saves the backup files. Since few days, it creates a new "Visual Studio 2008" directory in the same folder that my .sln file exists. Then, after the time of the first auto-save expires, the backup files are being saved to this folder. I browsed the tools-options dialog but I haven't found a way to set the directory to by static: C:\documents and setings\\My Documents\Visual Studio 2008\Backup Files. Can anybody point me with the right solution to this problem (probably the correct registry entry - I guess) ? thanks

Thanks, Sopolin
