  • how to keep the value of a variable in a closure

    - by Florian Fida
    i need to create multiple javascript functions which have a static id inside, so the function itself knows what data to process. Here is some code: (function(){ function log(s){ if(console && console.log) console.log(s); else alert(s); } var i = 10; while (i--){ window.setTimeout(function(){ // i need i to be 10, 9, 8... here not -1 log(i); },500); } })(); The problem ist that i allways gets updated by the loop, and i need to prevent this. Thanks in advance for any help, comments or tips!

  • Why isn't the @Deprecated annotation triggering a compiler warning about a method?

    - by Scooter
    I am trying to use the @Deprecated annotation. The @Deprecated documentation says that: "Compilers warn when a deprecated program element is used or overridden in non-deprecated code". I would think this should trigger it, but it did not. javac version 1.7.0_09 and compiled using and not using -Xlint and -deprecation. public class test_annotations { public static void main(String[] args) { test_annotations theApp = new test_annotations(); theApp.this_is_deprecated(); } @Deprecated public void this_is_deprecated() { System.out.println("doing it the old way"); } }

  • UIView Horizontal scroll for a part of a screen

    - by Futur
    Hi Friends, I have a requirement for scrolling a part of a view horizontally. there are 2 views, mainView(0,70,320*2,400) and a horizontalView(0,0,320*2,160)[this horizontalView has an internal UIScrollView with the same frame] So the horizontal view will occupy the first section of the screen and it should only be scrollable horizontally (and the other part of the mainView - the other part of the screen should be static). how to achieve this? i am getting a general scroll for the whole page not for the first section alone. am i in the right direction for this problem? please advice Thank you

  • How do I pass an array to a method?

    - by ambidextorous
    Hey, I have not been able to find a proper answer on any forums about this. But how exactly do I pass an array to a class constructor? public class TestArray { String name; String[] array; public TestArray(String name, String[] anArray){ this.name = name; int len = anArray.length; this.array = new String[len]; for (int i = 0; i < len; i++) { this.array[i] = new String(anArray[i]); } } public static void main(String[] args){ String[] anArray = new String[2]; anArray[0] = new String("Test"); anArray[1] = new String("Test2"); TestArray work = new TestArray("Jordan", anArray); // How to pass the array? } }

  • Most efficient way to remove special characters from string

    - by ObiWanKenobi
    I want to remove all special characters from a string. Allowed characters are A-Z (uppercase or lowercase), numbers (0-9), underscore (_), or the dot sign (.). I have the following, it works but I suspect (I know!) it's not very efficient: public static string RemoveSpecialCharacters(string str) { StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(); for (int i = 0; i < str.Length; i++) { if ((str[i] >= '0' && str[i] <= '9') || (str[i] >= 'A' && str[i] <= 'z' || (str[i] == '.' || str[i] == '_'))) sb.Append(str[i]); } return sb.ToString(); } What is the most efficient way to do this? What would a regular expression look like, and how does it compare with normal string manipulation? The strings that will be cleaned will be rather short, usually between 10 and 30 characters in length.

  • Using *.html extension in dynamic URL's for SEO

    - by lostaman
    Hi all My situation is. I have a project planned to be built on ASP.NET MVC 2. And one of the major requirements is SEO optimization. A customer wants to use static-like URLs that end up with .html extension for this project that make URLs more SEO friendly. E.g. "mysite.com/about.html " or "mysite.com/items/getitem/5.html" etc. I wonder is there any benefit from SEO perspective to use .html extension in dynamic URLs? Are Google and other search engines rank work better with such URLs?

  • Keep TabItems in a TabControl from repositioning?

    - by Kirn
    Hi everyone, In WPF, Is there a simple way to stop TabItems in a TabControl from being repositioned when the selected TabItem changes? So that clicking on a TabItem would simply display its contents, but not reposition the TabItems as it usually does (by moving the selected TabItem to the bottom row of tabs if it wasn't there already). Edit: To clarify, I do want the tabs to be displayed in multiple rows, I just don't want the tab headers to be repositioned when a TabItem from a row other than the bottom row is selected. I'd like the collection of headers to remain completely static, but for the contents of that TabItem to still be displayed when its header is clicked. Thanks!

  • Why does DateTime to Unix time use a double instead of an integer?

    - by Earlz
    I'm needing to convert a DateTime to a Unix timestamp. So I googled it looking for some example code In just about all the results I see, they use double as the return for such a function, even when explicitly using floor to convert it to an integer. Unix timestamps are always integers. So what problem is there with using either long or int instead of double? static double ConvertToUnixTimestamp(DateTime date) { DateTime origin = new DateTime(1970, 1, 1, 0, 0, 0, 0); TimeSpan diff = date - origin; return Math.Floor(diff.TotalSeconds); }

  • What's the preferred way to use helper methods in Ruby?

    - by DR
    Disclaimer: Although I'm asking in context of a Rails application, I'm not talking about Rails helpers (i.e. view helpers) Let's say I have a helper method/function: def dispatch_job(job = {}) #Do something end Now I want to use this from several places (mostly controllers, but also a few BackgrounDRb workers) What's the preferred way to do this? I can think of two possibilities: 1. Use a class and make the helper a static method: class MyHelper def self.dispatch_job(job = {}) end end class MyWorker def run MyHelper.dispatch_job(...) end end 2. Use a module and include the method into whatever class I need this functionality module MyHelper def self.dispatch_job(job = {}) end end class MyWorker include MyHelper def run dispatch_job(...) end end 3. Other possibilities I don't know yet ... The first one is more Java-like, but I'm not sure if the second one is really an appropriate use of Ruby's modules.

  • Can't call method in model table class using Doctrine with Zend Framework

    - by Jeremy Hicks
    I'm using Doctrine with Zend Framework. For my model, I'm using a base class, the regular class (which extends the base class), and a table class. In my table class, I've created a method which does a query for records with a specific value for one of the fields in my model. When I try and call this method from my controller, I get an error message saying, "Message: Unknown method Doctrine_Table::getCreditPurchases". Is there something else I need to do to call functions in my table class? Here is my code: class Model_CreditTable extends Doctrine_Table { /** * Returns an instance of this class. * * @return object Model_CreditTable */ public static function getInstance() { return Doctrine_Core::getTable('Model_Credit'); } public function getCreditPurchases($id) { $q = $this->createQuery('c') ->where('c.buyer_id = ?', $id); return $q->fetchArray(); } } // And then in my controller method I have... $this->view->credits = Doctrine_Core::getTable('Model_Credit')->getCreditPurchases($ns->id);

  • Which is more efficient regular expression?

    - by Vagnerr
    I'm parsing some big log files and have some very simple string matches for example if(m/Some String Pattern/o){ #Do something } It seems simple enough but in fact most of the matches I have could be against the start of the line, but the match would be "longer" for example if(m/^Initial static string that matches Some String Pattern/o){ #Do something } Obviously this is a longer regular expression and so more work to match. However I can use the start of line anchor which would allow an expression to be discarded as a failed match sooner. It is my hunch that the latter would be more efficient. Can any one back me up/shoot me down :-)

  • Allowing AsyncTask to Manipulate Values in Different Activity Classes

    - by Matt
    Hi guys, This title may seem strange, so let me try to explain what I'm trying to do. I have several activity classes, each representing a different view in my application. My initial activity class gets loaded when the application launches. The user enters values and eventually a TCP socket is opened, and I then use AsyncTask to listen for and respond to messages from the server. I'd like for this AsyncTask class to essentially listen until the app is closed/error condition reached, and be able to update values in other activity classes after they are started. Does this make sense (it's been a long, frustrating night)? I know that static activity class references are bad practice, and touching the UI thread from other activities is bad as well, but I'm having trouble finding a clean solution to this problem. Maybe using AsyncTask is not the best approach here? Should I be using a service instead or something else entirely? Thanks in advance.

  • Extension method not working if I set controller property in Action, works in OnExecuting

    - by Blankman
    I have a class MyController that inherits from Controller, so all my controllers inherit from MyController. I have a property in MyController: public class MyController : Controller { public string SomeProperty {get;set;} } if I set this property in MyController's OnExecuting method, my HtmlHelper extension method works fine: public static string SomeExtension(this HtmlHelper htmlHelper) { StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(); string result = ""; var controller = htmlHelper.ViewContext.Controller as MyController; if (controller != null) { result = controller.SomeProperty; } return result; } it doesn't work if I set 'SomeProperty' in my controllers action method. I guess because I am doing 'as MyController' in the extension method? is there a way for it to work in both situations? I am using the value of SomeProperty to be outputted on my view pages.

  • How do I handle editing of custom types in a C# datagridview?

    - by Ian Hopkinson
    I have a datagridview in which one column contains a custom class, which I have set using: dgvPeriods.Columns[1].ValueType = typeof(ExDateTime); It is rigged up to display correctly by handling the CellFormatting event, but I'm unsure what event to handle for cell editing. In the absence of doing anything I get a FormatException as the datagridview tries to convert String to ExDateTime as I try to move focus out of the edited cell. I tried adding type conversion to my ExDateTime custom class: public static implicit operator ExDateTime(string b) { return new ExDateTime(b); } But this this didn't work. I also tried handling the DataError event, but this seems to fire too late. The datagridview is not databound.

  • Custom nib UITableViewCell height

    - by Chuck
    I've created a custom UITableViewCell in IB, linked it to the root view controller's property for it, and set it up in CellForRowAtIndexPath. But the height of my drawn cells doesn't match what I setup in IB, advice? Here's some screenshots and the code. - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { static NSString *AddressCellIdentifier = @"AddressCellIdent"; UITableViewCell *thisCell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:AddressCellIdentifier]; if (thisCell == nil) { [[NSBundle mainBundle] loadNibNamed:@"AddressCell" owner:self options:nil]; thisCell = addressCell; self.addressCell = nil; } return thisCell ; } addressCell is a @property (nonatomic, assign) IBOutlet UITableViewCell *addressCell;, and is linked up in IB to the file's owner (the table view controller). I'm using the example from Apple's table view programming guide.

  • Trouble with arraylist and stack

    - by helloman
    I am having trouble starting out this program, I am suppose to write a program that will create an ArrayList, asking the user for 10 numbers. Then this will be put into the Array. Then after the list is made navigate it and if a number is even remove it from the ArrayList and copy it to a stack of integers. import java.io.* ; import java.util.*; public class Test { public static void main(String[] args){ Scanner input = new Scanner (System.in); ArrayList<Integer> integers = new ArrayList<Integer>(); System.out.print ("Enter Number: \n"); for (int i = 0; i < 10; i++){ integers.add(input.nextInt()); } for (int i = 0; i < 10 ; i++){ if (i %2==0) } } }

  • Benefits of arrays

    - by Vitalii Fedorenko
    As I see it, the advantages of List over array are pretty obvious: Generics provide more precise typing: List<Integer>, List<? extends Number>, List<? super Integer>. List interface has a bunch useful methods: addAll, remove etc. While for arrays all standard operations except get/set must be performed in a procedure manner by passing it to a static method. Collections offer different implementations like ArrayList, LinkedList, unmodifieable and synchronized lists, which can be hidden under common List interface. OOB length control. As disadvantages I can only mention absence of syntactic sugar and runtime type check. At the same time supporting of both structures requires frequent using of asList and toArray methods, which makes code less readable. So I am curious if there are any important benefits of using arrays that I miss.

  • SVG Using Adobe in IE doesn't work when loading page, but saving the page and then loading it works.

    - by Nick
    So I'm trying to get a SVG document to load in IE. I can see it fine, but all calls to .getSVGDocument() fail, the svg onload="onload()" function never gets called and the right-click Adobe SVG Viewer context menu doesn't show up when right-clicking on the svg. It seems as though I'm managing to crash the adobe SVG viewer or something before it is able to call the onload function but after it has drawn the SVG document. As a test I saved the html page to my hard drive and loaded it up and walla - it works! Right-click, onload, and .getSVGDocument() all work. Very curious. For some reason getting the page from the server makes the adobe plugin crap out but loading up static HTML is fine. Any thoughts?

  • Can you make a PHP function recursive without repeating it's name?

    - by alex
    It's always bugged me a recursive function needs to name itself, when a instantiated class can use $this and a static method can use self etc. Is there a similar way to do this in a recursive function without naming it again (just to cut down on maintenance)? Obviously I could use call_user_func or the __FUNCTION__ constant but I would prefer something less ugly. Update Thanks for your answers. I might stick to including the function name for simple functions, and make take the other approaches for anything more complicated.

  • Need some explanation about MS Ajax using PageMethods

    - by Ahmed Said
    I have a project that uses PageMethods to call functions on the server. The server functions (written in C#) return the values as array of strings, without doing any kind of serialization and in the client side (from Js) the accessing of the return values is by using static variable called arguments. I found that sometimes for some users (cases are not repro) sometimes an exception occured "WebServiceFailedException the server method 'Foo' returned invalid data. the 'd' property is missing from JSON." Some searching on google I found that people are serializing the return values using DataContractJsonSerializer class and in js accessing the return value using one of the callback function Example: function OnRequestComplete(result, userContext, methodName) { var Person = eval('(' + result + ')'); alert(Person.Forename); alert(Person.Surname); } So is the first technique is correct? or what?

  • How do I link a VS2008 C++ project as a DLL instead of a LIB?

    - by Clark Battle
    I have the C++ source code in a Visual Studio project from another developer that compiles into a static lib. I need to change it so that it builds a dll from that code so that I can call it from C#. I went into the project properties in Visual Studio and changed the configuration type to a DLL. However, it now gives lots of linker errors like: error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol __CAP_Enter_Function XXXFilter.obj XXXFramework What else do I need to do in Visual Studio and in the code to produce a dll from the code instead of a lib? The library is huge so writing a wrapper is not an option. I have the code so I should be able to make it build a dll. I am not a very experienced C++ dev but I am in C# and visual studio. Thanks
