  • How hard is it to determine what procedures/functions no longer compile?

    In sql server how difficult would it be to determine what procedures/functions no longer compile? In other words, if I scripted out alter statements for all procedures and functions in a database, I'd like to know which of these statements are going to fail? I've been working on cleaning up a database I've inherited which has gone through years of changes and I'd like to what objects are going to raise errors when something tries to execute it.

    I'm making a game where each Actor is represented by a GameObjectController. Game Objects that can partake in combat implement ICombatant. How can I specify that arguments to a combat function must inherit from GameObjectController and implement ICombatant? Or does this indicate that my code is structured poorly? public void ComputeAttackUpdate(ICombatant attacker, AttackType attackType, ICombatant victim) In the above code, I want attacker and victim to inherit from GameObjectController and implement ICombatant. Is this syntactically possible?

This is fine for the moment but in the near future I will need to send more complicated items, such as objects down the sockets and eventually files. What steps would I take to do this? When running within SQL Management Studio we have the use select to display "Results to Text" so all of the SQL results and print statement display in one place.     I have a fairly large SQL Server database; I'd like to pull 4 tables out and dump them directly into an sqlite.db for remote querying (via nightly batch). I was about to write a script to step through(most likely on a unix host kicked off via cron); but there should be a simpler method to export the tables directly (SQLite not an option in the included DTS Import/Export wizard) What would the most efficient method of dumping the SQL Server tables to SQLite via batch be?

    I have seen code where every class has an interface that it implements. Sometimes there is no common interface for them all. They are just there and they are used instead of concreate objects. They do not offer a generic interface for two classes and are specific to the domain of the problem that the class solves. Is there any reason to do that?

    In java, when you pass an object to a method as a parameter, it is actually passing a reference, or a pointer, to that object because objects in Java are references. Inside the function, it has a pointer to that object which is a location in memory. I am wondering where this pointer lives in memory? Is a new memory location created once inside the function to hold this reference?

  • In ruby on rails, is it possible to do a sum query with group by using the find_each batching?

    I'm loading data from my database and I'm doing a sum calculation with a group by. ElectricityReading.sum(:electricity_value, :group => "electricity_timestamp", :having => ["electricity_timestamp = '2010-02-14 23:30:00'"]) My data sets are extremely large, 100k upwards so I was wondering if its possible to use the find_each to batch this to help with memory overhead. I can write the batching manually use limit and offset I guess but I'd like to avoid that if the code already exists.

  • Is it possible to unpage all memory in Windows?

    I have plenty of RAM, however, after starting and finishing a large number of processes, it seems that most of the applications' virtual memory has been paged to disk, and switching to any of the older processes requires a very long time to load the memory back into RAM. Is there a way, either via Windows API or via kernel call, to get Windows to unpage all (or as much as possible) memory? Maybe by stepping through the list of running processes and get the memory manager to unpage each process's memory?

    As far as Google searches tell me, the maximum allowed number of cookies depends very much on the browser, however I cannot find any recent data as to how much cookies are allowed on modern browsers. I need to store a somewhat large number of user preferences in cookies (for not-yet-registered users), so what would be the best way of doing that? (Also, those cookies would be accessed both via javascript client-side and php server-side)

    What i want to do is set the background of a row based on some criteria, but the datagrid will be fairly large so i don't want to have to loop over all the rows again. The rows get created me doing something like "myDataGridView.DataSource = MyDataSource, so the only way i can think to edit rows is by using an event. there is a row*s* added event, but that gives me a list of rows that i'd have to iterate over.
