• Syncronize an SVN repo (svnsync) with encoding errors

  Is it possible to fix/bypass non-UTF8 encoded svn:log records when syncronizing repositories with svnsync? Background I'm in the process of taking over the maintenance of an open source module that is stored within a large (well over 10,000 revisions) subversion (1.5.5) repository. I do not have admin access to the remote repository to dump/filter/load the module. The old repository is being discontinued and I am trying to sync the original sub module to my local (1.6+) repository with svnsync. For example: svnsync file://home/svn/temp-repo/ http://path.to.repo/modulename/ The problem is that the old repository didn't enforce UTF8 encoding and I'm hitting errors like: svnsync: Cannot accept 'svn:log' property because it is not encoded in UTF-8 I can't modify the log property in the source repository so I need to somehow modify or ignore the property value when the encoding is unknown/invalid. Any ideas? For example, is it possible to write a pre-revprop-change script to modify the log property in transit?

• T-SQL: Build Nested Set From Parent-Child Relationship

  I have a table that stores my Customer hierarchy with a nested set (due to the specific design of the application, I wasn't able to leverage just a Customer/Parent Customer mapping table). To simplify maintenance of this table, I've built a couple of stored procedures to handle moving nodes around and creating new nodes, but it's significantly more work than maintaining a Customer/Parent Customer table. Further, these structures are very fragile. So I'm looking for a way to have a Customer/Parent Customer table and then convert that table to a nested set on demand. Does anyone have a link to such an implementation?

  Let's say I have a 1D Gaussian function. Its length is 600 for that matter. I want to Interpolate it into 2D Gaussian of the size 600 X 600. This is the code I wrote (OTFx is the Gaussian Function, OTF - 2d Interpolated Function): [x, y] = meshgrid([-300:299], [-300:299]); r = sqrt((x .^ 2) + (y .^ 2)); OTF = interp1([-300:299], OTFx, r(:), 'spline'); OTF = reshape(OTF, [600, 600]); The problem is I get Overshoot at the end: How can I prevent it? Is there better Interpolating algorithm for Monotonic Descending Functions?

  This is as simple as I can get. I will have several spans randomly positioned on the screen through something like: $(".hidden:first").css('-webkit-transform','rotate('+((0.5-Math.random())*40)+'deg)'); $(".hidden:first").animate({ left: '+=' + (((screen.width-800-224)/2) + Math.random()*800), top: '+=' + (50+Math.random()*600) } [...] and later on I would like to iterate through every char of every of those elements (that are randomly position and have random rotation), and I would need to discover the (x,y) position of every character on the screen so I can colorize it, forming certain draws according to certain functions.   I'm working with some models where a lot of a given model's key attributes are actually stored in a submodel. Example: class WikiArticle has_many :revisions has_one :current_revision, :class_name => "Revision", :order => "created_at DESC" end class Revision has_one :wiki_article end The Revision class has a ton of database fields, and the WikiArticle has very few. However, I often have to access a Revision's fields from the context of a WikiArticle. The most important case of this is probably on creating an article. I've been doing that with lots of methods that look like this, one for each field: def description if @description @description elsif current_revision current_revision.description else "" end end def description=(string) @description = string end And then on my save, I save @description into a new revision. This whole thing reminds me a lot of attr_accessor, only it doesn't seem like I can get attr_accessor to do what I need. How can I define an attr_submodel_accessor such that I could just give field names and have it automatically create all those methods the way attr_accessor does?

  i am currently developing a crawler that crawls all links on the web and displays them in the web browser (and saving it of course). but after some hours there will be a huge list displayed on the web browser and i want to only display lets say 1000 links at the same time. then i clear the html and display another 1000 links. this is also good for the RAM or it will eat up all memory. how do i clear the web browser screen? EDIT: i have seen some scripts using some flush buffer functions. has this anything to do with my case?

  Is there a way, either in code or with JVM arguments, to override the current time, as presented via System.currentTimeMillis, other than manually changing the system clock on the host machine? A little background: We have a system that runs a number of accounting jobs that revolve much of their logic around the current date (ie 1st of the month, 1st of the year, etc) Unfortunately, a lot of the legacy code calls functions such as new Date() or Calendar.getInstance(), both of which eventually call down to System.currentTimeMillis. For testing purposes, right now, we are stuck with manually updating the system clock to manipulate what time and date the code thinks that the test is being run. So my question is: Is there a way to override what is returned by System.currentTimeMillis? For example, to tell the JVM to automatically add or subtract some offset before returning from that method? Thanks in advance!

  SQLite from PHX Software has combined a managed assembly (System.Data.SQLite) with an unmanaged dll (the SQLite 32- or 64-bit dll) into one file, and managed to link them together. How do I do this? Do I need to embed the managed assembly into the unmanaged dll, or vice versa? ie. my questions are: In which order do I need to do this? What tools or knowledge do I need in order to do this? How (if different) do I link to the exported functions from the unmanaged dll in my managed code? The reason I ask this is that I want to build a managed zLib wrapper. I know there is managed classes in .NET but from experience they're a bit limited (and a bit boneheaded in that they don't do proper buffering), so I'd like to create my own copy, also because I want to learn how to do this. So does anyone know what I need to do and how?

Is it a problem with import? But when I try to import the module in ipython, everything is just ok.

  I've got a shared library with some homemade functions, which I compile into my other programs, but I have to link the end program with all the libraries I have used to compile the static library. Here is an example: I have function foo in the library which requires a function from another library libbar.so. In my main program to use function foo I have to compile it with the -lbar flag. Is there a way I can compile my library statically so it includes all the required code from the other libraries, and I can compile my end program without needing the -lbar flag? Cheers

  I have a ASP .NET load balanced application (webservice and website). It runs on SQL server. I need to be able to provide large files for download. However, because of the load balancing situation, the files are stored in the SQL database as opposed to the file system. BITS seems to be the best approach. I have full control of the client. However, i don't know how to configure BITS to read the file from the database. I know how to write the C# code for that, but i don't know how to get BITS to hook into it as opposed to reading the file from the file system. Any ideas?

• How would you implement database updates via email?

  I'm building a public website which has its own domain name with pop/smtp mail services. I'm considering giving users the option to update their data via email - something similar to the functionality found in Flickr or Blogger where you email posts to a special email address. The email data is then processed and stored in the underlying database for the website. I'm using ASP.NET and SQL Server and using a shared hosting service. Any ideas how one would implement this, or if it's even possible using shared hosting? Thanks

It's very confusing to me. Why do reads exceed writes?   Is there any easy way to generate markdown from source code comments? I'm looking for something similar to Sandcastle, but with Markdown (or something like it) as output. The full story is that I use DokuWiki to generate documentation. It has many nice properties, including that all its data is stored in text files. So my idea is that I should somehow be able to get my API docs into the same place as the rest of my documentation. So far my best bet seems to be to write a custom documenter for NDoc3, but perhaps someone has already done something similar which would save me the trouble. I realize I might need to tweak it a little due to slight syntax differences.

• Automatic logout in python web app

  I have a web application in python wherein the user submits their email and password. These values are compared to values stored in a mysql database. If successful, the script generates a session id, stores it next to the email in the database and sets a cookie with the session id, with allows the user to interact with other parts of the sight. When the user clicks logout, the script erases the session id from the database and deletes the cookie. The cookie expires after 5 hours. My concern is that if the user doesnt log out, and the cookie expires, the script will force him to login, but if he has copied the session id from before, it can still be validated. How do i automatically delete the session id from the mysql database after 5 hours?

If I wanted to get a string from a file I would simply use something like getc or scanf or something. How do I carry out these same functions on an array instead of a file? *oh, keep in mind that the array is of type int and is full of numerical representations of ASCII characters.

• How do browsers/PHP handle characters outside the set characterset?

  I'm looking into how characters are handled that are outside of the set characterset for a page. In this case the page is set to iso-8859-1, and the previous programmer decided to escape input using htmlentities($string,ENT_COMPAT). This is then stored into Latin1 tables in Mysql. As the table is set to the same character set as the page, I am wondering if that htmlentities step is needed. I did some experiments on http://floris.workingweb.nl/experiments/characters.php and it seems that for stuff inside Latin1 some characters are escaped, but for example with a Czech name they are not. Is this because those characters are outside of Latin1? If so, then the htmlentities can be removed, as it doesn't help for stuff outside of Latin1 anyway, and for within Latin1 it is not needed as far as I can see now...

• flex checkbox value not selected from database

  Hi, I have a small flex datagrid. The dataProvider is an xmlList. I have two columns, userList and user permissions. The user permissions column as checkboxes. The values for the checkbox are stored as 0 and 1 in mySQL. While returning it from PHP, I am converting them to true or false. Its returning the values correctly to the frontend. But inside the itemrenderer, the checkbox is not being set to true or false. Either everything is true or everything is false.
