  • skips nines in counter object, AS3

    - by VideoDnd
    It's not that noticeable at first, but my counter skips over to zero and ignores the nines. How can I get my counter to not skip over the nines? my FLA import flash.display.Sprite; import flash.events.Event; import flash.utils.Timer; import flash.events.TimerEvent; var timer:Timer; var count:int = 0; var fcount:int = 0; var numbers:NumbersView; trace("-----new NumberDocument created"); timer = new Timer(10); timer.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, incrementCounter); timer.start(); numbers = new NumbersView(); addChild(numbers); addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, enterFrameHandler); //addEventListener(Event.ADDED_TO_STAGE, traceMeOut); function incrementCounter(event:TimerEvent) { count++; fcount=int(count*count/1000); } function formatCount(i:int):String { return ("000000000" + i).substr(-9, 9); } function enterFrameHandler(e:Event):void { numbers.setTime(formatCount(fcount)); } function traceMeOut() { trace("-----Im here on stage!"); } NumbersView.as //NumbersView.as - Your Document Class package { import flash.display.MovieClip; public class NumbersView extends MovieClip { private var _listItems:Array; private const numHeight:int = 120; public function NumbersView() { _listItems = new Array(); var item:NumberImage; for (var i:Number = 0; i < 9; i++) { item = new NumberImage(); addChild(item); item.x = i * item.width; _listItems.push(item); } setTime('123456789'); } public function setTime($number:String):void { var nums:Array = $number.split(""); trace(nums); for (var i:Number = 0; i < nums.length; i++) { _listItems[i].start( int(nums[i]) ); } } } } Variation of NumbersView.as with Tweener //...SNIPPET public function setTime($number:String):void { var nums:Array = $number.split(""); for (var i:Number = 0; i < nums.length; i++) { if (nums[i] == previousNums[i]) continue; Tweener.removeTweens(_listItems[i]); var nuNum:int = int(nums[i]); var nuY:int = nuNum == 0 ? 0 : (nuNum - 1) * -numHeight; trace("nuY = " + nuY); trace("cY = " + _listItems[i].y); Tweener.addTween(_listItems[i], { y:nuY, time:0 } ); } previousNums = nums; } Variation of NumbersView.as that doesn't skip 9, but resets from bottom every count //...SNIPPET public function setTime($number:String):void { var nums:Array = $number.split(""); for (var i:Number = 0; i < nums.length; i++) { if (nums[i] == previousNums[i]) continue; Tweener.removeTweens(_listItems[i]); var newY:int = int(nums[i]) * -numHeight; if (_listItems[i].y < 0) _listItems[i].y = numHeight; Tweener.addTween(_listItems[i], { y:newY, time:3 } ); } previousNums = nums; } PUBLIC CLASS extends MovieClip place 'NumbersView.as' in same directory CLASS Library/'right-click' Properties/Class:NumberImage SYMBOL number column 70x1080 numbers 70x120 TWEENER caurina folder in local directory

  • AS3 Event Bubbling outside of the Scenegraph/DisplayList

    - by Brian Heylin
Hi just wondering if it is possible to take advantage of event bubbling in non display list classes in AS3. For example in the model of an application where there is a City class that contains many Cars. What methods are there to attach an event listener to a City object and receive events that bubble up from the child Cars. To clarify The City and Car objects are not part of the display list, they are not DisplayObjects. So can bubbling be implemented outside of the display list somehow? As far as I know, this is not possible without manually attaching event listeners to each Car object and re dispatching the event from the City object. Anyone else have a cleaner solution?

  • AS3: Weak Listener References Not Appropriate During Initialization?

    - by TheDarkIn1978
as i currently understand, if an event listener is added to an object with useWeakReference set to true, then it is eligible for garbage collection and will be removed if and when the garbage collection does a sweep. public function myCustomSpriteClass() //constructor { this.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, mouseDownListener, false, 0, true); this.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, mouseUpListener, false, 0, true); } in this case, is it not appropriate to initialize an object with weak references event listeners, incase the garbage collector does activate a sweep removing the objects event listeners since they were added during initialization of the object? in this case, would it only be appropriate to create a type of deallocate() method which removes the event listeners before the object is nullified?

  • Flex Overwriting my .HTML wrapper

    - by brett
When I make changes to a Flex project and rerun the project, it seems that FlashBuilder4 rewrites my html wrapper that embeds the SWF. But I have additional javascript code in the html wrapper and don't want to keep losing my code. I had to re-write the code once and it was a pain in the neck. How do I stop it from re-writing the html. And the related question: how do I stop it from deleting the html during a clean? I basically need to exclude the html from its processing once it's been created the first time. P.S. I'm using Flash Builder 4, but I suppose it's the same in Flex Builder 3.

  • Flash hit detect area

    - by Quandary
With Flash, is it possible to detect whether an object is fully ontop of another ? E.g. I have a rectangle (floor surface) and a circle (furniture). Now I want to detect whether the circle is fully in (=over) the rectangle, and not just whether it hits the rectangle somewhere. Is that possible ? How ?

  • how to keep a nativewindow on top

    - by Freddy Rios
I need to keep a NativeWindow I am creating on top of the main window of the application. Currently I am using alwaysInFront = true, which is not limited to the windows in the application. I can successfully synchronize the minimize/restore/move/resize actions, so the top window behaves appropriately in those cases. Even though using this option has the drawback that if I alt-tab to other application the window goes on top of the other application. Because of the above I am trying to get it to work without using the alwaysInFront. I have tried using orderInFrontOf and orderToFront, which gets it in place but when I click an area in the main window the top one becomes hidden i.e. air makes it the top one. I have tried capturing activate/deactivate events but it only happens on the first click, so on the second click the top window becomes hidden again. I also tried making the top window active when the main one becomes active, but that causes the main one to loose focus and I can't click on anything. Ps. I am doing this to improve the behavior of a HTMLOverlay I am using - see http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1044927/flex-air-htmlloader-blank-pop-up-window-when-flash-content-is-loaded/1077738#1077738

  • Casting an object using 'as' returns null: myObject = newObject as MyObject; // null

    - by John Russell
I am trying to create a custom object in AS3 to pass information to and from a server, which in this case will be Red5. In the below screenshots you will see that I am able to send a request for an object from as3, and receive it successfully from the java server. However, when I try to cast the received object to my defined objectType using 'as', it takes the value of null. It is my understanding that that when using "as" your checking to see if your variable is a member of the specified data type. If the variable is not, then null will be returned. This screenshot illustrates that I am have successfully received my object 'o' from red5 and I am just about to cast it to the (supposedly) identical datatype testObject of LobbyData: However, when testObject = o as LobbyData; runs, it returns null. :( Below you will see my specifications both on the java server and the as3 client. I am confident that both objects are identical in every way, but for some reason flash does not think so. I have been pulling my hair out for a long time, does anyone have any thoughts? • Flex3 Linechart points are too close to the edge

    - by Marcus Blankenship
I have a Flex3 LineChart component using an CircleItemRenderer and the datapoints are being cut off because they are too close to the edge. Here's what it looks like: http://img29.imageshack.us/img29/3850/chartx.png As you can see, the circles on the left and right sides are being cut off. How can I make the LineSeries area, plus the horizontal labels, narrower so it fits in the chart area? Thanks!

I have several mxml components in an app, all of which need the same variable called genericX. I've included that variable in the main mxml and made it public [Bindable] public var genericX:Number = 102; but I still can't access it from other mxml components. If I try to do this for example, it doesn't recognize the variable. <s:Button x="{genericX}" label="Click" />

  • Flash AS3 load file xml

    - by Elias
Hello, I'm just trying to load an xml file witch can be anywere in the hdd, this is what I have done to browse it, but later when I'm trying to load the file it would only look in the same path of the swf file here is the code package { import flash.display.Sprite; import flash.events.; import flash.net.; public class cargadorXML extends Sprite { public var cuadro:Sprite = new Sprite(); public var file:FileReference; public var req:URLRequest; public var xml:XML; public var xmlLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader(); public function cargadorXML() { cuadro.graphics.beginFill(0xFF0000); cuadro.graphics.drawRoundRect(0,0,100,100,10); cuadro.graphics.endFill(); cuadro.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,browser); addChild(cuadro); } public function browser(e:Event) { file = new FileReference(); file.addEventListener(Event.SELECT,bien); file.browse(); } public function bien(e:Event) { xmlLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, loadXML); req=new URLRequest(file.name); xmlLoader.load(req); } public function loadXML(e:Event) { xml=new XML(e.target.data); //xml.name=file.name; trace(xml); } } } when I open a xml file that isnt it the same directory as the swf, it gives me an unfound file error. is there anything I can do? cause for example for mp3 there is an especial class for loading the file, see http://www.flexiblefactory.co.uk/flexible/?p=46 thanks

  • combobox dropdown problem when load AS2 swf file in Flex

    - by him_aeng
I found the problem about combobox dropdown list in AS2 swf file. My scenario is: There are multiple swf file that was compile from ActionScript2.0 and use Flex to load those swf files in swfLoader component. There are two issue that I found and can't solve it: 1. When I load multiple as2.0 swf file in one flex application the first file that was load will work perfectly but the second and so on file have problem. When I click in their combobox component the dropdown list was not show. 2. swf file that was not first load have problem with popup window also. When the popup was show they can't work properly, I can't make any operation on it such as click button, close popup etc. I solve it by add the empty content AS2.0 swf file in flex to be first swf file that was load and it make something weird happen: When I click button on combobox the dropdown list was appear but it appear on position (x:0, y:0) of its container. I also add the code: this._lockroot = true; in every ActionScript2.0 code but it not solve the problem. I don't know the source of problem. Please help me. Thank.

  • receive values with XML, AS3

    - by VideoDnd
My example imports XML and has an object rotating on stage. The rotating object is called enemy corresponds to ENEMY in the XML. How do I set the rotation variable to receive values from XML? REASON It seems more difficult to set up variables using external data. I want to understand it better. rotation.fla //LOAD XML var myXML:XML; var myLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader(); myLoader.load(new URLRequest("enemy.xml")); myLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, processXML); //PARSE XML function processXML(e:Event):void { myXML = new XML(e.target.data); trace(myXML.ROGUE.*); trace(myXML); //TEXT var text:TextField = new TextField(); text.text = myXML.ENEMY.*; addChild(text); } //ROTATION function enterFrameHandler(event:Event):void { //==>CODE I WANT TO CHANGE<== enemy.rotationY += 10; } addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, enterFrameHandler); enemy.xml ENEMY is set to -100, use what you like <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <BADGUYS> <ENEMY TITLE="sticky">-100</ENEMY> <ROGUE TITLE="slimy">-1000</ROGUE> </BADGUYS>

  • Have you been stuck with the math in a Flash project?

    - by VideoDnd
Have you been stuck with the math in a Flash project? It's a loose design pattern my director formulated. My goal is to keep the project object oriented, and get 'non Flash obstacles' off my plate. XML values going to AS3, updating a changing acceleration formula. I don't hate math, but it just doesn't seem OOP or good project planning to have the math stuck in Flash. Your comments are welcome.

  • Mixin or Trait implementation in AS3?

    - by Brian Heylin
I'm looking for ideas on how to implement a Mixin/Trait style system in AS3. I want to be able to compose a number of classes together into a single object. Of course this is not a language level feature of AS3, but I'm hoping that there is maybe some way to do this using prototype based techniques or maybe some bytecode hacking that I believe AsMock uses to implement it's functionality. An existing Java example is Qi4J where the user define interfaces that the Qi4j framework implements based on metadata tags and coding by convention. Has anyone any ideas on how to get the Mixin/Trait concept working within AS3?

  • [AS2] Button Problem

    - by Adam Kiss
problem hello, I have Button (with no name), which has a MovieClip child. this movie_clip called ax_kr has XX frames, each containing one image. Now, upon loading flash or frame containg this button (actually, 43 of them), I would like to tell to each button, that in your ax_kr MovieClip, load frame YY - first one would load frame 2, second frame 3, third frame 4 etc. etc. Or is there anyway to use one generic MovieClip/Button with that ax_kr MovieClip as child with frame xy as active and two more actions? (on RollOver, another MC on stage goes to frame xy (same as ax_kr has) and on Click, another MC on stage goes to frame xy (still the same number)) I did previously in as3 and find it quite okay, but now I have to enhance old as2 application and I feel like I should just kill myself.

  • How would I make a mouse controlled physics object in Box2D / AS3?

    - by Marty Wallace
I recently created this tennis game using my own basic physics: http://martywallace.com/sandbox/tennis/ Basically a tennis racquet sticks to your mouse and you can hit the tennis balls upward. The physics aren't that great, and I want to make a more interesting version of this game with milestones and levels in Flash. I am planning to use Box2D because I have moderate experience with it. I'm not sure how to go about creating the racquet - as far as I understand Box2D, the racquet needs a velocity to influence the velocities of the balls when you hit them (so that you can hit them harder or softer upward to keep them up). With that said, I'm assuming I can't just have a kinematic body that will have its position set to the mouse, because it won't affect the velocities of the balls as expected. I've also thought about setting the velocity to the difference between the racquet position and the mouse each frame, but I am concerned that won't provide accurate positioning and am also thinking that the velocity could end up really large if you move the mouse quickly. What is the correct way to have a physics object locked to the mouse but also to have its displacement in the last frame (from where it was to the mouse) affect the balls?

  • Force compile-time linking of all classes in a SWC

    - by aaaidan
Using Flash CS4, I am making a game that has a dozen or so sounds and a couple of music tracks. To cut down on publish/compile time, I have moved the sounds and music into an (external) SWC, which is located in a "Library Path" for the project. This works, but with a caveat... Until before I externalised the assets, I had been dynamically instantiating the Sound objects of the embedded sound by getting their classes with getDefinitionByName. // something like... var soundSubClass:Class = Class(getDefinitionByName(soundClassName)); var mySound:Sound = new soundSubClass(); But now that they're located in an external SWC, I need to have "concrete" references to the classes in order to load them like this, otherwise they are not included in the published SWF, and there is a runtime error when getDefinitionByName tries to get a class that doesn't exist. So, my question: in Flash Professional CS4, is there any way to force a library's assets to be included, regardless of whether they are statically linked? FlashDevelop has a compiler option "SWC Include Libraries", which is exactly what I want, and is distinct from the "SWC Libraries" option. The description of the "SWC Include Libraries" option is "Links all classes inside a SWC file to the resulting application SWF file, regardless of whether or not they are used." (Also, it's important to me that all the assets are contained within the one compiled SWF. Linking at runtime isn't what I'm after.)

  • AS3 XML Slideshow Woes

    - by Chris
Hello All, I am hoping someone out there can possibly shed some light on a couple issues I am having with an image slideshow I have been working on a simple slideshow for a project and everything was going great/as expected up until I created a function to hide the previous images before displaying the next. On the first pass through everything seems to run fine; once the slideshow starts over, the images don't show up, yet when it goes to load the following image, it plays the tween from the hide previous function which shows the image briefly before fading out. So essentially the display is blank, then the timer calls in the next slide and its a brief flash of an image fading out, and then blank again. Another issue I am having is the text that I am loading in from the XML does not seem to want to tween in or out as they are supposed to. Here is the code: import fl.transitions.Tween; import fl.transitions.easing.*; import fl.transitions.TweenEvent; import flash.display.BitmapData; import flash.display.Bitmap; import flash.display.Sprite; catContainer.removeChildAt(0); descContainer.removeChildAt(0); } I'm no flash whiz, bet can generally figure most issues out by either analyzing the code, or digging around online; however, this has me stumped. Any help would really be appreciated, and I thank you all in advance.

  • How to check if a SWF is running as an AIR app?

    - by Sandro
Hi, I'm wondering if there is a way for a SWF to check at runtime whether it is running as an online SWF or an AIR app? I need to use the same SWF to run both online and locally, however when running as an AIR app, external assets are located in a different directory. I'd like to check whether a SWF is local or online so I can change the source path for external assets accordingly. Thanks, Sandro Edit: I just realized this might be a dumb question. :) I may just use flashvars to tell the SWF that it is running within an AIR app.

  • navigateToUrl AS3 is not opening a web browser

    - by Ronnie
I have a textField on my stage named 'adBuy', which when clicked I want to open up my browser with the defined in URL request. However when I click on the 'adBuy' textField on my SWF it opens Coda, the piece of software I'm using to write this small piece of code? I am puzzled. Here is my code: adBuy.defaultTextFormat = adFormat; adBuy.textColor = 0xFF65CB; adBuy.x = 640; adBuy.y = 455; adBuy.text = "Buy Now"; parent.addChild(adBuy); adBuy.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, buyAdvert); var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest("http://www.google.co.uk"); function buyAdvert(event:MouseEvent):void { navigateToURL(request, "_blank"); trace("link clicked"); } Is there an error in my code, or is this a common problem for which there is an answer?

  • Ambiguous reference when getter/setter have different visibilities

    - by Warren Seine
The following code raises an ambiguous reference to value at compile time: import flash.display.Sprite; public class Main extends Sprite { private var _value : Number = 0.; public function get value() : Number { return _value; } private function set value(v : Number) : void { _value = v; } public function Main() : void { value = 42.; } } I suspect some kind of bug in the compiler, though I didn't actually read the ECMA standard. Before someone asks those questions: Private setters do make sense. The ambiguity also exists with custom namespaces (which is the problem I'm facing).
