  • Querystring formatting in asp.net MVC 2

    - by Stuart
    Seems like a straitforward question but I can't quite figure it out myself... I have an actionlink like so Html.ActionLink( "Test", "test", new { q = "search+twitter" } ) This produces a url string as follows http://myserver/test?q=search%2Btwitter But i would like to preserve the plus sign (which i assume is being UrlPathEncoded) so that I get the following url http://myserver/test?q=search+twitter Is there an easy way to do this whilst still using Html.ActionLink ?

  • Generating jquery 'rules' from business model to UI in asp.net mvc

    - by jim
    Hi all, I've had a good look around and am certain that there's no matching question on SO, so here goes. Has anyone created a 'helper' method on their model that generates jquery (or plain javascript) rules validation dynamically, based on the criteria/rules that are contained within the object and taken from a repository (i.e. DB). What i'm thinking of is a discrete set of partial views (and associated models) that have rules at the business logic 'level' and rather than (or in combination with) validating the rule(s) at postback, translating the same rules into tightly focussed jquery methods that work identically at client (js) and server (c#) levels. I can see benefits here re performance. Also, the rules definitions could be created in a single place (in c#) and the jquery generated off of that, thus allowing single edits to update both code streams. I appreciate that there would be limitations imposed by language specific contstraints but the general principle could be quite interesting if used appropriately. I'm also aware that testibility could be an issue when using two different language structures and hoping to achieve similar test outcomes - but those aside... any thoughts or experiences of similar out there?? cheers jimi

  • ASP.NET Compiles on page load, but not on Ctrl+Shift+B

    - by Steve Syfuhs
    during debug in cassini the code runs fine, but when I explictly build it, the compile breaks on an object saying it can't find the reference. During a breakpoint shows the proper reference to the object, and I can view the debug intellisense. The code itself is simple using CFTW.Controls; ... controls_LatestPresentations c = LoadControl("~/controls/LatestPresentations.ascx") as controls_LatestPresentations; c.loadContent(); return RenderControl(c); The control is a simple user control, with the namespace CFTW.Controls. The calling code is in a webcontrol, which lives in the same folder. I even tried adding the calling code to the same namespace.

In my gridview after dragging a dropdownlist what bindings should I do to display the managerName? Is it possible to use it without writing custom select,insert,delete,update? If not what are the steps I need to do to write the whole thing i.e. custom grid and source? Thank you very much

  • ASP.Net mysterious behaviour

    - by kalan
    Does anyone have any idea why this works (expression in the if-clause) if (!(childNode.Roles != null && !Helper.HasEqualElements((string[])childNode.Roles, System.Web.Security.Roles.GetRolesForUser()))) AddNode(childNode, parentNode); And this doesn't if (childNode.Roles == null || Helper.HasEqualElements((string[])childNode.Roles, System.Web.Security.Roles.GetRolesForUser())) AddNode(childNode, parentNode); The problem is that the second if-clause sometimes doesn't work. Though it always works in debug mode, but it sometimes fails while running. And the strange thing is that these two pieces of code seems absolutely equal for me.

  • ASP.NET - Update progress while processing data

    - by Danny
    Hope I can explain this correctly. I have a process, that outputs step by step messages (i.e., Processing item 1... Error in item 2 etc etc). I want this to be outputted to the user during the process, and not at the end. I pretty sure i need to do this with threading, but can't find a decent example. Thanks in advanced.

  • IIS hosting, asp.net mvc

    - by tomasz
    Hi I have a site that uses flex and calls controller actions which returns json to the flex. This works fine in a dev server , the folder that has the flex app lives inside the web project and in the dev ennvironment, makes calls hostname, ie www.someurl.com in the actual live scenario, this will be an intranet so not hostname to call, the flex app seems to have trouble calling http://localhost/Virtual directory name it seems to totally miss the virtual directory name. I am obviously missing something basic, any help?

  • HtmlHelperExtensions are not visible in view mvc3 asp.net

    - by user1299372
    I've added a class for the HTML Custom Extensions: using System; using System.Linq.Expressions; using System.Text; using System.Web.Mvc; using System.Web.Mvc.Html; namespace App.MvcHtmlHelpers { public static class HtmlHelperExtensions { public static MvcHtmlString ComboBox(HtmlHelper html, string name, SelectList items, string selectedValue) { var sb = new StringBuilder(); sb.Append(html.DropDownList(name + "_hidden", items, new { @style = "width: 200px;", @onchange = "$('input#" + name + "').val($(this).val());" })); sb.Append(html.TextBox(name, selectedValue, new { @style = "margin-left: -199px; width: 179px; height: 1.2em; border: 0;" })); return MvcHtmlString.Create(sb.ToString()); } public static MvcHtmlString ComboBoxFor<TModel, TProperty>(HtmlHelper<TModel> html, Expression<Func<TModel, TProperty>> expression, SelectList items) { var me = (MemberExpression)expression.Body; var name = me.Member.Name; var sb = new StringBuilder(); sb.Append(html.DropDownList(name + "_hidden", items, new { @style = "width: 200px;", @onchange = "$('input#" + name + "').val($(this).val());" })); sb.Append(html.TextBoxFor(expression, new { @style = "margin-left: -199px; width: 179px; height: 1.2em; border: 0;" })); return MvcHtmlString.Create(sb.ToString()); } I've also registered it in my site web config: <namespaces> <add namespace="System.Web.Helpers" /> <add namespace="System.Web.Mvc" /> <add namespace="System.Web.Mvc.Ajax" /> <add namespace="System.Web.Mvc.Html" /> <add namespace="System.Web.Routing" /> <add namespace="System.Web.WebPages" /> <add namespace="App.MvcHtmlHelpers"/> </namespaces> In my view, I import the namespace: <%@ Import Namespace="RSPWebApp.MvcHtmlHelpers" %> But when I go to call it in the view, it doesn't recognize the custom extension.   • Returning JSON object from an ASP.NET page

    - by Emin
    Hi, In my particular situation, I have couple of solutions to my problem. I want to find out which one is more feasible. In this case, I can also achieve my goal by returning a JSON object from my server side code, however, I do not know how it is done and what is the best way of doing it. First off, I don't need a full aspx page as I only need a response returned from code. So, do I use web services? handler? or is there any other specific way you people do this? Is this solution feasible? do I build the JSON string using the StringBuilder class and inject that string into the target aspx page? are there any precautions? or things that I should be aware of? I appreciate your ideas. Regards, Kemal ------------UPDATE !------------ Suppose I have a JSON object in my userlist.aspx page. which then I use it with jQuery... {"menu": { "id": "color1", "value": "color", "popup": { "menuitem": [ {"value": "Red"}, {"value": "Green"}, {"value": "Yellow"} ] } }} // example taken from the json.org/example page now when I want to add a new menuitem from my aspx page, what do I do... I think this way my question is more specific... Lets assume I create a new string in my aspx code, as such "{"value": "Blue"}. Now how do I inject this into the already existing itemlist in the target page? or is this not the correct approach to this kind of situation? if not how else can it be achieved? Also if I wanted to fire a jquery event when a new item is added to this list, how is this achieved?

  • Creating a process in ASP.NET MVC controller

    - by GRKamath
    I have a requirement to run an application through my MVC controller. To get the installation path I used following link (I used answer provided by Fredrik Mörk). It worked and I could able to run the exe through a process. The problem occurred when I deployed this solution on IIS where it did not create the process as it was creating in local dev environment. Can anybody tell me how to create a windows process through a solution which is hosted on IIS ? private string GetPathForExe(string fileName) { private const string keyBase = @"SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\MyApplication"; RegistryKey localMachine = Registry.LocalMachine; RegistryKey fileKey = localMachine.OpenSubKey(string.Format(@"{0}\{1}", keyBase, fileName)); object result = null; if (fileKey != null) { result = fileKey.GetValue("InstallPath"); } fileKey.Close(); return (string)result; } public void StartMyApplication() { Process[] pname = Process.GetProcessesByName("MyApplication"); if (pname.Length == 0) { string appDirectory = GetPathForExe("MyApplication"); Directory.SetCurrentDirectory(appDirectory); ProcessStartInfo procStartInfo = new ProcessStartInfo("MyApplication.exe"); procStartInfo.WindowStyle = ProcessWindowStyle.Hidden; Process proc = new Process(); proc.StartInfo = procStartInfo; proc.Start(); } }

  • Images with razor asp.net mvc inside JS

    - by sarsnake
    I need to dynamically insert an image in my JS code. In my Razor template I have: @section Includes { <script type="text/javascript"> var imgPath = "@Url.Content("~/Content/img/")"; alert(imgPath); </script> } Then in my JS I have: insertImg = ""; if (response[i].someFlag == 'Y') { insertImg = "<img src=\"" + imgPath + "/imgToInsert.gif\" width=\"6px\" height=\"10px\" />"; } But it doesn't work - it will not find the image. The image is stored in /Content/img folder... What am I doing wrong?

  • ASP NET forms Authorization: how to reduce duration?

    - by eddo
    I've got a web page which is implementing cookie based ASPNET Forms Authentication. Once the user has logged in the page, he can edit some information using a form which is created using a partialview and returned to him as a dialog for editing. The action linked to the partial view is decorated as follows: [HttpGet] [OutputCache(Duration = 0, VaryByParam = "None")] [Authorize(Roles = "test")] public ActionResult changeTripInfo(int tripID, bool ovride=false) { ... } The problem i am experiencing is the latency between the request and the time when the dialog is shown to the user: time ranges between 800 and 1100 ms which is not justified by the complexity of the form. Investigating with Glimpse turns out that the time to process the AuthorizeAttribute (see snip) sums up to at least 650 ms which is troubling me. Looking at the Sql server log, the call which checks the user roles takes, as expected, virtually nothing (duration 0). How can I reduce this time? Am I missing some optimization?
