  • Named Function Expressions in IE, part 2

    - by Polshgiant
I asked this question a while back and was happy with the accepted answer. I just now realized, however, that the following technique: var testaroo = 0; (function executeOnLoad() { if (testaroo++ < 5) { setTimeout(executeOnLoad, 25); return; } alert(testaroo); // alerts "6" })(); returns the result I expect. If T.J.Crowder's answer from my first question is correct, then shouldn't this technique not work?

  • Spry Collapsible Panel within Collapsible Panel, inconsistent errors.

    - by Robin I Knight
Hello everyone it is me again with another question. The booking system located here http://www.divethegap.com/scuba-diving-programmes-dive-the-gap/divemaster-training.php?cat=16 There are 3 main collapsible panels controlled by the spry framework. There are then over a dozen more inside the first collapsible panel as you can see on that page. When you open one of those by pressing one of the 'learn more' buttons you will see that the main collapsible panel that it is in also expands to fit that content and the contracts if you close the smaller panel again. However as soon as you go to the next main collapsible panel 'summery and quote' and then go back to the first main panel by pressing the button that says 'back' there are problems. Now if you open up one of the smaller panels inside the first main panel you will see that the main panel does not expand to fit the contents and in fact the content of the smaller panels spreads over the other content, floating above it. Does anybody know how to fix this? Many Thanks,

  • Very strange jQuery / AJAX behavior

    - by Dr. DOT
    I have an Ajax call to the server that only works when I pass an alert(); to it. Cannot figure out what is wrong. Can anyone help? This Does Not Work (ie., Ajax call to server does not get made): <!-- jQuery.support.cors = true; // needed for ajax to work in certain older browsers and versions $('input[name="status"]').on("change", function() { if ($('input:radio[name="status"]:checked').val() == 'Y') { $.ajax({ url: 'http://mydomain.com/dir/myPHPscript.php?param=' + $('#param').val() + '&id=' + ( $('#id').val() * 1 ) + '&mode=' + $('#mode').val() }); } window.parent.closePP(); window.top.location.href = $('#redirect').val(); // reloads page }); //--> This Works! (ie., Ajax call to server gets made when I have the alert() present): <!-- jQuery.support.cors = true; // needed for ajax to work in certain older browsers and versions $('input[name="status"]').on("change", function() { if ($('input:radio[name="status"]:checked').val() == 'Y') { $.ajax({ url: 'http://mydomain.com/dir/myPHPscript.php?param=' + $('#param').val() + '&id=' + ( $('#id').val() * 1 ) + '&mode=' + $('#mode').val() }); **alert('this makes it work');** } window.parent.closePP(); window.top.location.href = $('#redirect').val(); // reloads page }); //--> Thanks.

  • multiplayer / visitors interactions with Ruby on Rails?

    - by Jordi
I want to have interactions between visitors on my site. Imagine a chat room. It basically involves getting the data from everyone and sending it to everyone, this can be done by ajax and what not but I wonder if there is something already there in the wild that would do the heavy lifting for me. I have to say that I got very lost once I start programming Ajax, dont even know how to make tests for it... I have found the Q42multiplayer library that looks like what I want but they use C# as backend. There is something similar or any other multiplayer thingy I can get some idea or rip some code from (the whole thing will be opensource) for Ruby on Rails?

  • Google Maps Marker Click Event

    - by Mike
I'd like to populate a google map with several markers. When the user clicks on a marker I would like it to send the user to a different webpage which is designated for that location. (for example: lets say the markers represent homes, when you click on a marker it takes you to a page with more information about the home) What is the simplest way to do this?

  • jquery navbar active state stays through refresh

    - by bob
    Hello, I am building a web application and because it has a layout. I don't want to have to create a seperate navigation bar for each page. I am wondering if I can assign an active class to a link that gets clicked on my navbar which will keep the active class even after a page refresh. html <div id="navbar"> <ul id = "main_nav"> <li><%= link_to '', root_path, :class => "home" %></li> <li><%= link_to '', junklists_path, :class => "buy" %></li> <li><%= link_to '', post_junk_path, :class => "sell" %></li> <li><%= link_to '', contact_path, :class => "contact" %></li> </ul> </div> jquery $("#main_nav li a").click(function(){ $("#main_nav li a.active").removeClass('active'); $(this).stop().addClass('active'); }) What options do I have? Thanks in advance!

  • converting code from not CPS to CPS (CPS aka Continuation Passing Style aka Continuations)

    - by Delirium tremens
before: function sc_startSiteCompare(){ var visitinguri; var validateduri; var downloaduris; var compareuris; var tryinguri; sc_setstatus('started'); visitinguri = sc_getvisitinguri(); validateduri = sc_getvalidateduri(visitinguri); downloaduris = new Array(); downloaduris = sc_generatedownloaduris(validateduri); compareuris = new Array(); compareuris = sc_generatecompareuris(validateduri); tryinguri = 0; sc_finishSiteCompare(downloaduris, compareuris, tryinguri); } function sc_getvisitinguri() { var visitinguri; visitinguri = content.location.href; return visitinguri; } after (I'm trying): function sc_startSiteCompare(){ var visitinguri; sc_setstatus('started'); visitinguri = sc_getvisitinguri(sc_startSiteComparec1); } function sc_startSiteComparec1 (visitinguri) { var validateduri; validateduri = sc_getvalidateduri(visitinguri, sc_startSiteComparec2); } function sc_startSiteComparec2 (visitinguri, c) { var downloaduris; downloaduris = sc_generatedownloaduris(validateduri, sc_startSiteComparec3); } function sc_startSiteComparec3 (validateduri, c) { var compareuris; compareuris = sc_generatecompareuris(downloaduris, validateduri, sc_startSiteComparec4); } function sc_startSiteComparec4 (downloaduris, compareuris, validateduri, c) { var tryinguri; tryinguri = 0; sc_finishSiteCompare(downloaduris, compareuris, tryinguri); } function sc_getvisitinguri(c) { var visitinguri; visitinguri = content.location.href; c(visitinguri); } What should the code above become? I need CPS, because I have XMLHttpRequests when validating uris, then downloading pages, but I can't use return statements, because I use asynchronous calls. Is there an alternative to CPS? Also, I'm having to pass lots of arguments to functions now. global in procedural code look like this / self in modular code. Any difference? Will I really have to convert from procedural to modular too? It's looking like a lot of work ahead.

  • WCF REST with jQuery AJAX - removing/working around same origin policy

    - by csauve
So I'm trying to create a C# WCF REST service that is called by jQuery. I've discovered that jQuery requires that AJAX calls are made under the same origin policy. I have a few questions for how I might proceed. I am already aware of; 1. The hacky solution of JSONP with a server callback 2. The way too much server overhead of having a cross-domain proxy. 3. Using Flash in the browser to make the call and setting up crossdomain.xml at my WCF server root. I'd rather not use these because; 1. I don't want to use JSON, or at least I don't want to be restricted to using it 2. I would like to separate the server that serves static pages from the one that serves application state. 3. Flash in this day in age is out of the question. What I'm thinking: is there anything like Flash's crossdomain.xml file that works for jQuery? Is this "same-origin" policy a part of jQuery or is it a restriction in specific browsers? If it's just a part of jQuery, maybe I'll try digging in the code to work around it.

  • Changing a form's action attribute in IE?

    - by Jonatan Littke
Hey. I'm trying to set a hash value in a form's action, to keep it when the form is submitted. Firefox allows me to update the hash and redirects accordingly, but IE doesn't. I initially thought this was related to IE not allowing hash values in the action attribute at all, but it seems I can't dynamically set the action at all in IE - with a hash or not? Is that right? I'm using the following jQuery: $("#options-form").attr('action', '#' + hash); To update: <form id="options-form" action="" method="get"> (On a sidenote, this wasn't needed in Firefox, because FF appears to preserve the current hash if it was only the GET params that changed.)

  • ExtJS combo setting problem

    - by Hubidubi
Hi I run into an interesting problem while was using combos in input form. My form contains combos that get data from json stores. It works fine when adding new record, but when the form is opened for editing an existing record, sometimes the id appears as selected not its value (eg: there's 5 instead of "apple"). I think it tries to set the value before it finishes loading the combo. Is there a way to solve this? I put the code down here that creates combos: function dictComboMaker( store, fieldLabel, hiddenName, name, allowBlank, myToolTipp ) { comboo = { xtype : 'combo', id: 'id-'+name, allowBlank: allowBlank, fieldLabel : fieldLabel, forceSelection : true, displayField : 'value', valueField : 'id', editable: false, name: name, hiddenName : hiddenName, minChars : 2, mode: 'remote', triggerAction : 'all', store : store }; function dictJsonMaker(url) { store = new Ext.data.JsonStore({ root : 'results', // 1 fields : [ 'id','value' ], url : url, autoLoad: true}); return store; } var comboKarStore = dictJsonMaker('/service/karok'); var comboKar= dictComboMaker(comboKarStore, 'Kar', 'karid', 'kar', false, ''); // then comboKar is added to the form Hubidubi

  • jQuery DateTime Picker

    - by fluid_chelsea
I've been looking around for a decent jQuery plugin that can handle both dates and times. The core UI DatePicker is great, but unfortunately I need to be able to take time in as well. I've found a few hacks for the DatePicker to work with times, but they all seem pretty inelegant and google isn't turning up anything nice. Do any of you know of a good jQuery plugin for selecting dates and times in a single UI control with a usable interface? Thanks!

  • How do I retrieve the zero-based index of the selected option in a select box?

    - by Ben McCormack
Let's say I have the following in my HTML code: <select name="Currency" id="Currency"> <option value="0.85">Euro</option> <option value="110.33">Japanese Yen</option> <option value="1.2">Canadian Dollars</option> </select> Using jQuery, I can use $("#Currency").val() to give me the selectd value, and I can use $("#Currency :selected").text() to get the selected text. What do I need to do to get the zero-based index (in this case, 0, 1, or 2) of the current selection?

  • CustomRenderer for AutoComplete using google closure library

    - by Paul
I'm looking to use one of the AutoComplete subclasses(Rich,Remote,RichRemote) and I'd like to use a CustomRenderer, however I don't see instructions for this and reading the documentation/source it appears that the Remote subclass is instantiated with a renderer of "var renderer = new goog.ui.AutoComplete.Renderer();" leaving me no option to change it while instantiating. Is there a setRenderer method on the AutoComplete base class similar to that on the goog.ui.Controls classes? Thanks, Paul

  • Filtering in E4X

    - by FB55
This is just a simple question. I'm currently using Mozilla's Rhino to develop a little webapp. As one step, I need to get a webpage and filter all of it's nodes. For doing that, I use E4X. I thought I could do this like that: var pnodes = doc..*(p); But that produces an error. How is it done right? (BTW: this is just a step for increasing performance. The code already does well, it's just a bit slow.)

  • Extract <name> attribute from KML

    - by Ozaki
I am using OpenLayers for a mapping service. In which I have several KML layers that are using KML feeds from server to populate data on the map. It currently plots: images / points / vector lines & shapes. But on these points it will not add a label with the value of the for the placemark in the KML. What I have currently tried is: ////////////////////KML Feed for * Layer// var surveylinelayer = new OpenLayers.Layer.Vector("First KML Layer", { projection: new OpenLayers.Projection("EPSG:4326"), strategies: [new OpenLayers.Strategy.Fixed()], protocol: new OpenLayers.Protocol.HTTP({ url: firstKMLURL, format: new OpenLayers.Format.KML({ extractStyles: true, extractAttributes: true }) }), styleMap: new OpenLayers.StyleMap({ "default": KMLStyle }) }); then the Style as follows: var KMLStyle = new OpenLayers.Style({ //label: "${name}", // This method will display nothing fillOpacity: 1, pointRadius: 10, fontColor: "#7E3C1C", fontSize: "13px", fontFamily: "Courier New, monospace", fontWeight: "strong", labelXOffset: "0", labelYOffset: "-15" }, { //dynamic label context: { label: function(feature) { return "Feature Name: " + feature.attributes.name; // also displays nothing } } }); Example of the KML: <Placemark> <name>POI1</name> <Style> <LabelStyle> <color>ffffffff</color> </LabelStyle> </Style> <Point> <coordinates>0.000,0.000</coordinates> </Point> </Placemark> When debugging I just hit "feature is undefined" and am unsure why it would be undefined in this instance?

  • Change cursor to loading animation

Hey, I've got a few loading bars that appear during any postbacks. How can I use CSS to have the cursor change into a custom loading animation? In examples I've come across, I can only turn the cursor into other preset images (such as an hourglass). Is it possible for me to use a custom gif as the cursor? Thanks
