  • Determining if something is on the right or left side of an object?

    I have a character in a 3D world which is facing an arbitrary direction on a flat plane, the player can click on the left or right side of the character and based on which side is clicked on a different action happens. How can I determine which side the click occured on? Obviously for straight on ahead (0,0,1) I can simply use the x coordinate of the click point to determine if it's the left or right hand side, but what about other cases?

  • USB hub keep changing ports

    I have an external powered USB hub and I'm using gammu to send some SMSs, but every time the daemon connect to one specific modem, it has the port changed. Gammu is able to send just one SMS and after that the port is changed. I've already tried using: /dev/ttyUSB3 /dev/serial/by-path/pci-0000:00:0b.0-usb-0:3.4.3:1.0-port0 There is anything to do which will stop the ports to be changed or use any other fixed port? Thanks.

  • Best approach to creating self-updating content - i.e. chat rooms, shoutboxes and so on

    The only way I can think of to have a shoutbox or similar element update itself when somebody posts a new 'shout' and it needs to be loaded in everyone else's browsers is to have Javascript check every x seconds for any updates... This could get a bit resource intensive though I expect if many people were to leave their browsers open on the page, idling. Is this the only way or am I missing something? I've prefer to stick to only html, css, javascript (AJAX) and php.

  • Why the Ubuntu App Developer website is not showing content about development for desktop?

    Looks like they removed every content that is not related with development for desktop. For example when you click in "Get Started" tab there is only information about the Ubuntu Touch and its SDK, when you click on "Resources" tab and then on "Programming languages" you only see C++, JavaScript and QML (no Python, Java, Mono, etc). You also can't find any information about Quickly, try clicking on "Quicky" at "Resources" in the website bottom and you will see a "Page not found" error. Is the site under maintenance or something else?

  • How to map TFS to two local directories

    I am working with a web application, using TFS. Every time I build the site it takes an unproductivly long time to start up again. I would like to have a second mapping of the site on my c drive, where I would only get latest and build once a day, so this version would always be fast. This would be like a "readonly" directory as I wouldn't personally make any edits to it. Please let me know if this possible, or if you have any alternative.

  • Am I harming myself by having two domains pointing at the same thing?

    I have a domain I recently purchased. I went ahead and pointed it at my website(via DNS) and by default, my server now serves my website on this new domain. Eventually, the new domain will replace my old domain(with 302 redirects and all that). However, I've not yet got my website ready for that because I'll need to do some rebranding and such. Am I actively hurting my SEO ratings and such by having these two domains point to the same thing?

  • Should I use SVG for icons? [on hold]

    I'm just wondering what is the preferred practice for adding icons? I see quite a bit of hype over SVG images however having a bit of trouble understanding how they are implemented as every article I read seems out of date. I need icons for simple lists, the icons need to be one solid color. I feel as if using png's was so 2008 haha, would you recommend the use of SVG images or are developers using other methods to display icons now?

I am able to find users who logged three sessions in a particular week, but I'd like to find users who log three sessions every week since a given start period. Similarly, I'd like to find the number of users who use the app 1 time a week and one and 1 time a month. Is this possible through Google Analytics?

  • Which one to select for my future career; Java, C#, Azure or Apex?

    Hi folks, This time, I am going to studying Masters in Computer Science in U.S.A after a week. I have been doing my B.Sc for the past three years and after my freshman year I started working on projects (in C# and very rarely in Java) for the past two years.(i.e while I was a second and third year student). Now I am in a college where all of the programming courses are going to be taken in Java only (using Eclipse) and I am going to stay in this college for 8 months on campus and then fully employed for two years in other companies as a CPT. I really love to work on Microsoft products because, for me, they are simple and easy to use and understand. My future plan is to work in Cloud computing and be a Cloud based business owner in the near future. Since the college is going to teach us and let us do every project in Java, I was confused which programming language to use that will help me and enhance me in my career, and of course I wanted to select the one I liked to do everytime. I also heard a lot about Azure (Microsoft’s ) and Apex (Salesforce.com’s cloud computing programming language). Would you please give me your advice and recommendation based on my situation? Should I have to study only Java, or should I have to study C# or Azure beside Java on my own? The reason I asked this is because, since I have no clue how Azure works and how long it will take me to know the language, I am really confused which one to select (Java Vs C# and Azure Vs Apex or if there is any popular and mostly used Cloud Computing langauge). Do you think I can get a job in cloud computing if I study Azure or Apex by my own without experience? There is also one issue I want to consider which is a short term issue is. i.e Salary. Since I have to pay my student loan, I also need to get a good job which will let me pay my loan within two years. But, as I said, my long term plan is, get experience in Cloud Computing (from programming to administrative part,i.e every area of cloud computing) and then have my own business may be within 5-10 years.   • Juju Ceilometer-Agent is not reporting about nova-compute

    I have deployed both ceilometer and ceilometer-agent and added relationship between them. After deployment I can see the resource usage for network(neutron), glance, cinder but I cannot see the information for nova-compute. But it is instructed that ceilometer-agent should deployed in every compute node but with juju its not possible to deploy it on specific compute node. Thanks in advance for your help.
