    Is there any way to make font smoothing more MacOS like in Visual Studio 2010? I used to do that with GDI++ in VS 2008, but obviously that won't work in new Visual Studio. Is it possible to tweak WPF font-smoothing manually?

If a specific key does not exist in B, then do nothing and continue on. Which way is better? try: A["blah"] = B["blah"] except KeyError: pass or if "blah" in B: A["blah"] = B["blah"] "Do and ask for forgiveness" vs. "simplicity and explicitness". Which is better and why?

  • vs 2010 colors are darker than i set

    I have "Selected Text" color set to a default value in vs 2010 RGB 51,153,253. But really in text editor it is RGB 173,214,255 that is slightly darker. The same things are with some other colors, e.g. Resharper Dead Code. What can it be a problem and how should I solve it?

  • Using VS Code Snippets with Resharper

    I am trying to use Code Contract's Code Snippets but since I turned Resharper back on it doesn't recognize them. On the other hand, it is recognizing some snippets I've implemented myself in the past. Any ideia of what might be the problem? I'm specifically trying to use cr and ce, which I think, don't collide with any other snippets (at least from what I see in the intellisense). I'm using R# 5 with VS 2010 Thanks

    What is the advantage of using a ConcurrentBag(Of MyType) against just using a List(Of MyType)? The MSDN page on the CB (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd381779(v=VS.100).aspx) states that ConcurrentBag(Of T) is a thread-safe bag implementation, optimized for scenarios where the same thread will be both producing and consuming data stored in the bag So what is the advantage? I can understand the advantage of the other collection types in the Concurrency namespace, but this one puzzled me. Thanks.

    I have a bitmap and I want to scale it up to fill an ImageView and overlay the unscaled version of the bitmap on top. Which would be cheaper (in terms of memory and processor usage)? Using two ImageViews, one for each version of the bitmap Using a canvas and drawing on the singular bitmap, using one ImageView I saw this question about ImageView vs Canvas, but it doesn't address memory/processor concerns. My intuition says two ImageViews may use more RAM, while using a canvas would use more processing power while the drawing occurs.

    good morning all :) was wondering if anyone can tell me how come I cant get my windows form size to go to 1280x 768 in vs 2008? My resolution that I am working on is 1024x768..but the computer that I am going to be running this program on is a wide screen..1280x768. I try to change it in properties but it keeps defaulting back to 1036x760.

  • Core i7-620M vs Core i5-540M

    Hi, I'm recommending a laptop to a colleague, and the specific laptop he has chosen has the above CPU chips as options. Both chips have 2-cores/4-threads. The i7-620M is a 2.66 GHz (4MB Cache) while the i5-540M is a 2.53 GHz (3MB Cache)....both Arrandale architecture. He is a .NET programmer working with SQL Server and Oracle, and occasionally uses Adobe Fireworks for web-related design elements. He also loves playing around in Adobe Premiere Pro, and does a lot of media/video work. Would you notice any significant performance difference between the 2? The laptop manufacturer claims that the battery life on both is the same irrespective of the chip used (although I find that hard to believe), but there is a major cost difference between them, with the Core i7-620M being the more expensive. According to http://ark.intel.com, the one thing that seems different (besides the obvious speeds/frequencies/etc) is a feature called "Embedded" - what is this exactly?     Just wondering if anyone has experience with the cisco 2911 or 2900 series routers. I understand it is newer and similar to the 2811 but more robust. The price difference is not that much more. I am trying to determine if I should go with the 29xx or 28xx series for a small-medium sized company. ISP bandwidth load balancing and fail over is required. T1 and ADSL lines already in place.

  • Apache+Tomcat VS Stand Alone Tomcat or GlassFish

    Hi, I am setting up a Debian server to serve Java web applications. I have done quite a bit of research for several weeks now. Tomcat's web site says it is better to use stand alone Tomcat for speed if you are not clustering. However, I have seen many people suggest that using Apache + Tomcat gives you better security and protection against attacks. Please assume that the process will be running on port 80 as an unprivileged user. I would assume that if you are running a firewall in front the server, Tomcat should be fine. If, however, you just want to run an exposed webserver using Linux firewall, what is the best option? Or maybe someone can recommend another open source web server. I am trying to keep the solution as light as possible as these webapps will be running in containers. All opinions welcome and valued. Thanks, Tony Z

  • Windows Server 2012 Branchcache vs. DFS-R

    Warning, subjective question ahead! But hopefully a good one that won't get closed. SCENARIO: I have a branch office that currently has no on-premise server. They access everything including a DC across a 12Mbps WAN link (MPLS). The link isn't saturated, averaging around 20% utilization. The circuit is very stable and has a high SLA and excellent uptime. However, large file transfers (mainly reads, not writes) from the file server across the WAN can be slow. We don't currently utilize DFS. RESEARCH DONE: I'm aware of WAN acceleration, using either dedicated hardware (Riverbed) or a dedicated software VM (Silver Peak) for example. But the pricing is outside of our current budget and the need isn't quite there yet from our perspective (since the issue is mainly in a "pull" scenario not necessarily push/pull). I'm mainly looking at deploying a Windows server at this branch office and either utilizing DFS-R or BranchCache. Looking at a table comparison and assuming we are looking at a "hosted branchcache server" and not simply distributed: It would appear there are benefits to both, even if both are "hosted" on a server. QUESTIONS I ACTUALLY HAVE: In what scenarios do each of these techs shine and where do you choose one over the other? Looking at a hosted Branchcache server, can you set "pre-fetching" of certain folders/files on the central file server so that they are immediately accessible locally at the branch? Do you have to do this on a schedule (if it is possible)? Looking at DFS-R my concern (and apparently solved with 3rd party apps) is file locking and making sure the file gets updated properly during a write operation (ie, making sure if both copies are accessed and both are written to, which file takes precedence and what happens to the changes?). Ideal it would seem would be to lock any alternate replicas of the data, but is it really that big of an issue? Does Branchcache lock the central file for editing? Does branchcache only transmit the deltas back to the central file of what has changed? Would either technology be ill advised if the branch office server was going to be utilized as a domain controller as well?

As far as I know Confluence is a wiki and Sharepoint is not. How compare confluence and Sharepoint as file containers? Which benefits have Sharepoint over Confluence and vice-versa? Pros and Cons?
