• How to update a custom dependency property when the datasource list changes

  Hi We have a user control with a custom dependency property (DP). The DP is bound to an ObservableCollection. When a new item is added to the collection programatically, the databinding does not update the target DP. Why? We think it's because, unfortunately, in our case the target is not a ListBox or ListView, but a Canvas. The DP, when changed or initialized, is supposed to draw a Shape (!) onto the Canvas, and the shape's position and size is bound to the collection item's two properties: WIDTH, LEFT. Ideally we don't want to clear the Canvas and redraw all items just becasue one has been added (or deleted). But how? So: How can the custom DP take care of drawing the shape for the new collection item? What callback do we need, at what point in time does this have to happen, and what specific MetaDataOptions might there? Also, are there any good resources out there concerning all these dependency property options. They are quite confusing. MSDN does not really help with what we're trying to do. Thanks!

  Several other questions on SO have come to the same conclusion I have -- using an ItemsControl with a DataTemplate for each item constructed to position items such that they resemble a grid is much simpler (especially to format) than using a ListView. Presumably it is making a few layout passes to get all the Auto-width columns to match up. This is very distracting for my users and I'd like to get it sorted out. Has anyone else seen this?

• Strongly Typed Controls in .NET

  I am working on a Windows Forms app for quite some time now, and I really find myself doing more typecasts in the GUI code than I ever did in my underlying business code. What I mean becomes apparent if you watch the ComboBox control that accepts some vague "object" as it's item. Then you go off and may display some DisplayMember and a ValueMember and so on. If I want to retrieve that value later I need to typecast my object back to what it was. Like with strings getting the value takes string value = (string)combobox1.SelectedItem; Since there are generics in the Framework for quite some time now, I still wonder why in the Hell not one control from the standard toolbox is generic. I also find myself using the .Tag property on ListViewItems all the time to keep the displayed domain object. But everytime I need to access that object I then need another typecast. Why cant I just create a ComboBox or ListView with items of type ListViewItem Am I missing something here or is this just another example of not perfectly well thought through controls?

  Does anyone know how to databind the .Source property of the WebBrowser in WPF ( 3.5SP1 )? I have a listview that I want to have a small WebBrowser on the left, and content on the right, and to databind the source of each WebBrowser with the URI in each object bound to the list item. I don't want to used jQuery or Javascript to accomplish this. The outputted html is supposed to look like this page: http://rmtequipment.com/golfandturf.aspx I have made an interface that will allow them to add these logos on their own. So this page will be dynamically built. What is the best way to accomplish this goal? If a listview or gridview is a better approach I am open to that as well. Thanks in advance.

• Effective Method to Manage and Search Through 100,000+ Objects Instantly? (C#)

  I'm writing a media player for enthusiasts with large collections (over 100,000 tracks) and one of my main goals is speed in search. I would like to allow the user to perform a Google-esque search of their entire music collection based on these factors: Song Path and File Name Items in ID3 Tag (Title, Artist, Album, etc.) Lyrics What is the best way for me to store this data and search through it? Currently I am storing each track in an object and iterating over an array of these objects checking each of their variables for string matches based on given search text. I've run into problems though where my search is not effective because it is always a phrase search and I'm not sure how to make it more fuzzy. Would an internal DB like SQLlite be faster than this? Any ideas on how I should structure this system? I also need playlist persistence, so that when they close the app and open the app their same playlist loads immediately. How should I store the playlist information so it can load quickly when the application starts? Currently I am JSON encoding the entire playlist, storing it in a text file, and reading it into the ListView at runtime, but it is getting sluggish over 20,000 tracks. Thanks!

• Is there a way to touch-enable scrolling in a WPF ScrollViewer?

  I'm trying to create a form in a WPF application that will allow the user to use iPhone-like gestures to scroll through the available fields. So, I've put all my form controls inside a StackPanel inside a ScrollViewer, and the scrollbar shows up as expected when there are too many elements to be shown on the screen. However, when I try to test this on my touch-enabled device, a panning gesture (placing a finger down on the surface and dragging it upward) does not move the viewable area down as I would expect. When I simply put a number of elements inside a ListView, the touch gestures work just fine. Is there any way to enable the same kind of behavior in a ScrollViewer?   i have the pretty same sample as mentioned here. Fast concluded: MainWindow closes when the last childwindow is closed. My Problem: I couldn't solve my problems with the described solutions. • Creating a complex tree model in Qt

  I'm writing an IRC Client (yes another one). Long story short. I'm writing a Server dialogue that keeps a list of this: Identity Networks Channels Addresses I have 3 different list views that will be for the Networks, Channels and Addresses. When the user changes the Identity (combo box). The network listview will lookup all the networks for that specific Identity. After it loads up the Networks it will automatically select the first network and then load all the channels and addresses for that specific network. The problem is I want to have 3 views for 1 model, to minimise all the memory and the loading of data. So that it makes it much easier to manage and not do a bunch of work. If you'd look at QColumnView it's the same exact thing. But I don't need it to be on one exact page since the views are on entirely different tabs to make it easier to go through the Server dialogue. I'm wondering what will be the best way to go about handling this complexity. The information is stored in a SQLite database. I already have the classes written to extract and store it. Just the modelling is the painful part of this solution.

I'm really struggling to find the best practise solution. This is the flow: A user can make a request with a title and a description. A mail gets sent to the representative with a link to a form. A representative can approve or reject the request. If approved: A mail gets sent to Board with a link to form If rejected: A mail gets sent to the user with the message that it has been rejected. when the request was approved by the representative, the board can approve or reject the request. A mail gets sent to the user and the representative with the descision of the board. So the list has the following fields: Request title Request description Representative approval Representative description Board approval Board description The user should see the following form: Request title (editable) Request description (editable) The representative should see the following form: Request title (read-only) Request description (read-only) Representative approval (editable) Representative description (editable) The Board should see the following form: Request title (read-only) Request description (read-only) Representative approval (read-only) Representative description (read-only) Board approval (editable) Board description (editable) My questions: What tool is most appropriate for making the forms? Infopath? SPD? VS2010? How do I handle rights to make sure only the board can access the board edit form? What kind of workflow do I use? When do I start the workflow(s)? What do I use to develop the workflow(s)? How do I handle rights when showing the listview with all requests? How can I build the links in the mails sent to the different groups. • C# Dataset Dynamically Add DataColumn

  I am trying to add a extra column to a dataset after a query has completed. I have a database relationship of the following: Employees / \ Groups EmployeeGroups Empoyees holds all the data for that individual, I'll name the unique key the UserID. Groups holds all the groups that a employee can be a part of, i.e. Super User, Admin, User; etc. I will name the unique key GroupID EmployeeGroups holds all the associations of which groups each employee belongs too. (UserID | GroupID) What I am trying to accomplish is after querying for a all users I want to loop though each user and add what groups that user is a part of by adding a new column to the dataset named 'Groups' which is a string to insert the values of the next query to get all the groups that user is a part of. Then by user of databinding populate a listview with all employees and their group associations My code is as follows; Position 5 is the new column I am trying to add to the dataset. string theQuery = "select UserID, FirstName, LastName, EmployeeID, Active from Employees"; DataSet theEmployeeSet = itsDatabase.runQuery(theQuery); DataColumn theCol = new DataColumn("Groups", typeof(string)); theEmployeeSet.Tables[0].Columns.Add(theCol); foreach (DataRow theRow in theEmployeeSet.Tables[0].Rows) { theRow.ItemArray[5] = "1234"; } At the moment, the code will create the new column but when i assign the data to that column nothing will be assigned, what am I missing? But I need a ListView or other ItemsControl to bind to it in XAML file like this: But I can't figure it out how to pass the ObservableCollection to the ItemsSource of that control. I tried to create a class and then create an instance of a class in xaml file but it did not work. Should I create a static resource somehow Any help will be greatly appreciated.

• C#: Populating a UI using separate threads.

  I'm trying to make some sense out of an application Ive been handed in order to track down the source of an error. Theres a bit of code (simplified here) which creates four threads which in turn populate list views on the main form. Each method gets data from the database and retrieves graphics from a resource dll in order to directly populate an imagelist and listview. From what Ive read on here (link) updating UI elements from any thread other than the UI thread should not be done, and yet this appears to work? Thread t0 = new Thread(new ThreadStart(PopulateListView1)); t0.IsBackground = true; t0.Start(); Thread t1 = new Thread(new ThreadStart(PopulateListView2)); t1.Start(); Thread t2 = new Thread(new ThreadStart(PopulateListView3)); t2.Start(); Thread t3 = new Thread(new ThreadStart(PopulateListView4)); t3.Start(); The error itself is a System.InvalidOperationException "Image cannot be added to the ImageList." which has me wondering if the above code is linked in some way. Iis this method of populating the UI recommended and if not what are the possible complications resulting from it?

• Generating an NSDictionary from an SQL statement.

  I am trying to generate an NSDictonary that can be used to populate a listview with data I retrieved from an SQL statement. when I go to create an array and add them it adds the arrays for ALL my keys and not just for the current key. "" : "alternate" %>"> <!-- table cells in here --> </tr> </ItemTemplate> With the following CSS: tr.alternate { background-color: #EFF5FB; } I have just gone through the ASP.NET MVC Movie Database Application tutorial and learnt that in MVC-land table rows can be (must be?) constructed as follows: <% foreach (var item in Model) { %> <tr> <td> <%= Html.Encode(item.Title) %> </td> <!-- and so on for the rest of the table cells... --> </tr> <% } %> What can I add to this code to stripe the rows of my table? Note: I know that this can be done using jQuery, I want to know if it can be done another way. • BlackBerry 5.0 causing full menu to show on navigationClick

  I have a BlackBerry app that is built for 4.5.x SDK. The first page of the app shows a list of fields and each field can be highlighted and clicked. The click action shows a new view with additional information about the field. This all works fine in 4.5, 4.6 and 4.7 and on the sim with 5.0. On a real 9000 running 5.0, when clicking the trackball on an item in the list, the full menu is showing rather than the click event getting consumed (or even fired) for the field. The view is derived from MainScreen and looks something like this: public class ListView extends MainScreen { public ItemCollection list = new ItemCollection; protected void sublayout( int maxWidth, int maxHeight ) { int i = 1; while(( item == (Item)list.nextElement()) != null) { ItemField field = new ItemField(item, i++); add(field); } } } This class does not consume navigationClick, but shouldn't need to, right? The field class does consume navigationClick event: public class ItemField extends Field { protected boolean navigationClick(int status, int time) { controller.showDeal(item.id, Session.current); return true; } } Is there something that changed in 5.0 that I need to add to have this app work the same for all platforms?

• ActiveSync gives a 401.2 error

  Hello - I've been struggling for a while with a problem with ActiveSync, it is giving 401.2 errors when trying to access the mailboxes. Oddly enough, clients can get to the calendars just fine. I've tried from an Android device as well as the Exchange remote connectivity troubleshooter, same error both times. Here is the configuration: Connectivity through ISA 2006 Exchange 2007 on Windows 2008 Basic authentication is on ISA is passing through all authentication directly to the Exchange server The user IS allowed to get to ActiveSync in their Exchange mailbox settings I have tried the following, without success: * Making SSL not required * Enabling Windows Integrated and Digest authentication Here is an example of the errors in the IIS log: OPTIONS /Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync/default.eas - 443 - 192.168.32.18 TestActiveSyncConnectivity 401 2 5 0 Here is what I am seeing in my trace log: ModuleName IIS Web Core Notification 2 HttpStatus 401 HttpReason Unauthorized HttpSubStatus 2 ErrorCode 2147942405 ConfigExceptionInfo Notification AUTHENTICATE_REQUEST ErrorCode Access is denied. • Can we configure windows 2008 DHCP server to not ignore the broadcast falg of DHCP requests?

  We have a Cisco WAP4410N access point that does not relay broadcast packets from the wired network to the wireless clients when the network is secured by WPA2. This cause problem with Windows server's DHCP server that respond to DHCP request by broadcasting it's OFFER instead of Unicasting it like it's asked by Windows (and Android and iOS) clients. When we had a Windows 2003 server we configured the server not to ignore the broadcast flag (following these instructions) and it solved the problem. Now we upgraded our servers to Windows 2008 servers and the problem is back. Unfortunately, it seems Windows server 2008 ignore the IgnoreBroadcastFlag parameter. Is there any other way to make sure that Windows Server 2008 respond to DHCP requests using Unicast instead of broadcast? mp

• Filter rule for SMS / text messages in exchange active sync (SMS sync)

  Exchange server 2010 introduces SMS Sync (via exchange active sync), which works fine with my android device and the Samsung email app. However, all text messages are synced to my exchange inbox, which is a pain. I'd like to have them filtered to a specific folder. So far, I haven't figured out a useful filter rule for achieving that, since there seems to be no header indicating it's a text message. Has anyone managed to do that? Note that I'm not using Outlook as an email client, so I'm specifically looking for a server-side rule.

• Files missing after copying from one sdcard to another using Ubuntu 12.04

  I have two Kingston sdcards 8GB and 32GB. The 8GB for HTC Sensation and 32GB for my Tablet (Chinese). I soon ran out of space on my phone and decided to swap the data between the sdcards. I copied the data of 32GB sdcard to my PC(with Ubuntu 12.04) deleted everything on the 32GB sdcard and copied data from the 8GB sdcard to the other sdcard. At last I copied the data from my PC to the 8GB sdcard(before this I deleted everything that was on it before). Now the problem is that the 8GB sdcard has the data exactly the same, but the 32GB sdcard has some missing data. All my photos(not copied or posted on Facebook) and Songs are lost. Please help as to what I can do to get my data back? I have Android Revolution HD (ICS 4.0.3) on my rooted HTC Sensation (India). I suspect it has something to do with my data loss.
