  • Is there good FAT driver for FUSE? (Lightweight, not mountlo)

    FUSE filesystem list show some FuseFat and FatFuse. Both are old, FatFuse is read-only , FuseFat is non-buildable and probably depends on glib. Now I'm using mountlo for the task (mounting USB drives in generic way without root access or suid things (except of fusermount itself)), but it looks too big for such task. Using FUSE to mount external storage devices is good both for security and for flexibility reason: the kernel sees only block reads and writes while actual code that deals with filesystem details runs with user privileges, allowing user to use custom filesystems and preventing from kernel filesystem exploits. Is there good vfat FUSE driver?

    I was just poking around in /usr/bin and I found an ELF binary file called [. /usr/bin/[. I have never heard of this file and my first thought was that it was a clever way of hiding a program, possibly a trojan. However it's present on all my CentOS servers and seems to have no manual entry. I can hazard a guess as to what it is but I was looking for a more authoritative answer...

    Hi folks, I would like to issue a command from a bash script to clear the terminal it is running from: -I don't want to clear the bash history (history -c) -I don't want to issue the clear command (which moves the terminal down to the last prompt, giving the impression the terminal has been cleared, but previous output remains visible if you scroll up) -I want to completely remove all previous output to my terminal and have it clean as if I was opening a new one Thanks.

    203 hava a iSCSI target named poolA that I am trying to log into using this command: iscsiadm -m node -T poolA -p 192.168.0.203 -l I am trying to use it as a vg. Secondly, I create two lvs on this vg, and lastly, I logout: iscsiadm -m node -T poolA -p 192.168.0.203 -u After I execute lvs, the following error occurs: /dev/dm-2: read failed after 0 of 4096 at 0: Input/output error /dev/dm-5: read failed after 0 of 4096 at 0: Input/output error Can I get around this error without a reboot?     i installed ubuntu using wubit inside the windows and started working on it then i got this error afer updating [0.8879153] kernel panic -not syncing VFS unable to mount fs unknow block (8.3) and i can't user rescue mode and it's give me another error no filesystem could mount root ..... i looked at grub folder and didn' find any file on disks/boot/grub/ so i tryed to user super grub to fix it but it didn' work and it keep giving me. boot/grub/stage1 not found i didn't edit anything from grub folder. any idea plz .

  • Vagrant and cups port forwarding not working. Not accessible

    I'm working with vagrant and I'm trying to use it as a printing server. I installed cups. Internally everything works just fine. I can even make a quick curl to my localhost:631 (cups port inside my vagrant) and there's everything. The thing is I can't access it in any way I try from the host machine. Obviously I forwarded the port and I've tried with several ports. I've also tried with Debian squeeze and Ubuntu 12.04. Here is my current Vagrantfile Vagrant.configure("2") do |config| config.vm.box = "guruDebian" config.vm.network :forwarded_port, guest: 80, host: 8080 config.vm.network :forwarded_port, guest: 631, host: 6363 ## HERE IS CUPS end Any ideas? ... I'll upload any file if necessary.

  • Solr on Tomcat (Ubuntu OS) installation help

    I have to install Solr on my Ubuntu Server. However, Solr wont work without Tomcat or another container, and also Java. I have successfully installed tomcat6 and java. BUT, in a tomcat6 guide online, it says I should configure iptables to allow connections via port 8080, which I have done. Then the guide says I can test the tomcat6 by going to: http://my_ip_adress:8080 But this makes the browser just load and wait somehow for a response, and finally display "website not available". I have NO clue how to install Solr with Tomcat. Does anybody know how? How do I know Tomcat6 works? BTW: When I do this: /etc/init.d/tomcat6 start then it says OK. If you need something let me know, I really need help with this one. Thanks UPDATE: When executing this: sudo /etc/init.d/tomcat6 status it respons is Tomcat servlet engine is running with pid 28641

  • how to find out what is causing huge dentry_cache usage?

    Note that inode_cache & ext3_inode_cache slabs are very small compared to dentry_cache. What happens is that slowly and steadily the within a week dentry_cache grows from 1M to ~5-6G Then I need to run echo 2 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches && echo 0 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches This started to happening one day on all servers hosting some web code - the developers are saying that they have not changed anything related to filesystem access pattern around the time then the problem started. The system is centos5 with 2.6.18 kernel so I don't have any instrumentation features available th newer kernels. Any I idea how I can debug the problem? maybe with systemtap? This is a ec2 instance - so not even sure that systemtap will work there. Thanks Alex

  • Grub File Stolen ( WINDOWS and OpenSus )

    I have a problem with my computer. I installed OpenSus on my external, and I still have Windows on my HDD. OpenSus took the Grub file and placed it on my external, so now I have to open OpenSus to open Windows. I never got a Windows CD when I bought my computer ( I live in South Africa :) ).... I want to install Ubuntu 12.04 on my external, but then I will have to format my external in which case I will lose the Grub file causing me to lose Windows, which I can't afford to do... yet. Does anyone have an idea what I can do?

  • Missed something? Cant upload files to server (permissions)

    I can upload files as "root" to the Ubuntu server. Then I created a user (me). Next I added the user to the group www-data. Then assigned rwx permissions to www-data. Next, when I try to upload, delete or modify files VIA FILEZILLA, I cant. But via the terminal, I can change files using sudo command. What should I do to be able to upload files without getting the "permission denied" in filezilla? If you need more input let me know. Thanks

    In our production server suddenly /dev/null became a regular file and due to this sshd service got stopped and not able to login the server. And also we tried to the below steps to configure back to character device file, rm -rf /dev/null mknod /dev/null c 1 3 As soon as we run the rm command /dev/null is being re-created as a regular file before mknod can run. We can't figure out how this happening and which component is creating this file. So until we solve this issue we are unable to create /dev/null as character device file.
