• Technical details for Server 2012 de-duplication feature

  Now that Windows Server 2012 comes with de-duplication features for NTFS volumes I am having a hard time finding technical details about it. I can deduce from the TechNet documentation that the de-duplication action itself is an asynchronous process - not unlike how the SIS Groveler used to work - but there is virtually no detail about the implementation (algorithms used, resources needed, even the info on performance considerations is nothing but a bunch rule-of-thumb-style recommendations). Insights and pointers are greatly appreciated, a comparison to Solaris' ZFS de-duplication efficiency for a set of scenarios would be wonderful.

  Is it virus-safe to do quick format of hard drive? I want to format disk that was infected and install windows 7 on it, but I am not sure if Quick Format is secure enough. I am aware that it does not delete data but pointers to it, so I wonder if it is possible that virus activates from that data? Thanks

  I have a simple goal, I would like to increment a variable but I'm facing the closure problem. I've read why this s happening here How do JavaScript closures work? How could I do that ?   I want to know whether I can calculate the running time for each thread. I implement a multithread program in C++ using pthread. As we know, each thread will compete the CPU. Can I use clock() function to calculate the actual number of CPU clocks each thread consumes? my program looks like: Class Thread () { Start(); Run(); Computing(); }; Start() is to start multiple threads. • pyschool is wrong ?

  I'm currently learning python and trying to do exercises at pyschools (if anyone knows what it is). Anyway, i have an exercise that asks me to do the following : Write a function percent(value, total) that takes in two numbers as arguments, and returns the percentage value as an integer. Here's my code: def percent(value, total): percent = value / total * 100 return int(percent) It works great in my Python Idle and it gives all the correct answers. however, when i run it in the pyschools website, it says that , for example , when the function is called with parameters 46 and 90 , the function returns 0. However, in my python idle , it correctly returns 51. What might be the problem ? Thank you very much for your help!

  Hello, I have to write a javascript function that is returning the current size (in px) of a div. Unfortunately the div has its weight specified in % instead of px. The style of the div: position: absolute; width: 100%; height: 100%; And my width returning function: function getTableWidth(tableId){ var tabWidth = document.getElementById('pt1::tabb').children[0].children[0].style.width; return tabWidth; } tabWidth is '100%'.   This question is related to: How do I determine the intersection point of two lines in GDI+? (great explanation of algebra but no code) How do you detect where two line segments intersect? (accepted answer doesn't actually work) But note that an interesting sub-problem is completely glossed over in most solutions which just return null for the coincident case even though there are three sub-cases: coincident but do not overlap touching just points and coincident overlap/coincident line sub-segment For example we could design a C# function like this: public static PointF[] Intersection(PointF a1, PointF a2, PointF b1, PointF b2) where (a1,a2) is one line segment and (b1,b2) is another. This function would need to cover all the weird cases that most implementations or explanations gloss over. In order to account for the weirdness of coincident lines, the function could return an array of PointF's: zero result points (or null) if the lines are parallel or do not intersect (infinite lines intersect but line segments are disjoint, or lines are parallel) one result point (containing the intersection location) if they do intersect or if they are coincident at one point two result points (for the overlapping part of the line segments) if the two lines are coincident

  I have a for loop in the opening function of a GUI in MATLAB and I'm trying to use a callback button to break the loop. I'm new to MATLAB. • Getting lpfnAcceptEx (accpetex) to block in native C++

  Hello, I've been trying to get the lpfnAcceptEX function in Win32 to block on accept. If this is not possible I was wondering if there was a flag I could accpet or some other function that I could wait on. Right now the program is simply continually creating accepted sockets with no connections behind them. Perhaps I am misunderstanding how this is to work. Is there another function I need to wait on? • c++ Array passing dilemma

  Hi, I am writing a function that takes a string, string pointer and an int. The function splits the string based on a set of rules and puts each token into an array. I need to return the array out of the function with the number of elements in the int variable etc. I am stuck as to how I return the array as I can not use auto other wise it is destroyed and I am reluctant to use new as I feel this is patchy. I have other ideas on how to go about this but would like to see how other people go about this first. I could also be wrong and it could be possible to pass an auto out of an array. I can also not use vectors so there goes a copy constructor.

• Ampersand in JSON/PHP in POST

  I'm having a text field which is send via JSON and jQuery (wrapped with .toJSON function) to my server via AJAX and POST request. On PHP side I'm doing json_decode . Everything works but if I put ampersand (&) inside it splits up the POST parameter so its incomplete on PHP side (at least what var_dump($_POST) is writing out). Shouldn't the toJSON and json_decode do all the job (escaping)? I tried encodeURIComponent, & to &amp;, & to \u0026 and it's not working. What I'm doing wrong? • jQuery dialog box not opening 2nd time

  I found this thread which basically has the same issue I have. But their solution is not working for me. The dialog appears the first time I click the submit button, but not the 2nd time. I'm opening the dialog box after a form submission. UPDATE I finally got it working.   Hi, I have a C++ library that should expose some system\ resource calls as callbacks from the linked application. For example: the interfacing application (which uses this library) can send socket management callback functions - send, receive, open, close etc., and the library will use this implementation in stead of the library's implementation. (This way enables the application to manage the sockets by itself, can be useful). This library has to expose also more callbacks, like, for example, a password validation, so I wonder if there is a preferred method to expose the callback sending option in one API. Something like: int AddCallbackFunc (int functionCallbackType, <generic function prototype>, <generic way to pass some additional arguments>) Then within my library I will assign the callback to the appropriate function pointer according to the functionCallbackType parameter. Is there any way to implement it in a generic way which will fit ANY function prototype and ANY additional arguments? Your help will be more than appreciated... Thanks!
