  Hi, I have the following piece of code from a book. There is this function loadPrefs where the NSString *userTimeZone is being released before the end of the function. Why? The string was not created with alloc and I assume that the stringForKey function returns an autoreleased NSString. Is this an error or am I missing something? Is it an error in the book? (I new into objective-C) In the documentation for stringForKey the only thing it mentions is: Special Considerations The returned string is immutable, even if the value you originally set was a mutable string. • YAHOO.util.Connect.asyncRequest does not work in Safari

  When I request a webpage using YAHOO.util.Connect.asyncRequest in Safari I always get Communication Failure message in callback's failure properties statusText. The same method works in IE. What could be wrong here? Here is the code. When the code is executed I always get two alerts: "Three" and "communications failure undefined" (corresponding to the second alert in the failure part below.) Also when I attach the debugger and put break point in the SAProvision.aspx's page load event, the break point is not hit. So it is sure that in safari the page is not being called.   I realized that I can specify $(document).ready(function(){}); more than once. Suppose like this $(document).ready(function(){ var abc = "1122"; //do something.. }); $(document).ready(function(){ var abc = "def"; //do something.. }); Is this standard ? Those codes work on my FF (16.0.2). I just a little afraid that other browser may not. What actually happen ? How jQuery handle those code ? Thanks.

• Missing something with Reader monad - passing the damn thing around everywhere

  Learning Haskell, managing syntax, have a rough grasp of what monads etc are about but I'm clearly missing something. In main I can read my config file, and supply it as runReader (somefunc) myEnv just fine. But somefunc doesn't need access to the myEnv the reader supplies, nor do the next couple in the chain. The function that needs something from myEnv is a tiny leaf function. So - how do I get access to the environment in a function without tagging all the intervening functions as (Reader Env)? That can't be right because otherwise you'd just pass myEnv around in the first place. And passing unused parameters through multiple levels of functions is just ugly (isn't it?). There are plenty of examples I can find on the net but they all seem to have only one level between runReader and accessing the environment.

• Anonymous iterator blocks in Clojure?

  I am using clojure.contrib.sql to fetch some records from an SQLite database. (defn read-all-foo [] (with-connection *db* (with-query-results res ["select * from foo"] (into [] res)))) Now, I don't really want to realize the whole sequence before returning from the function (i.e. I want to keep it lazy), but if I return res directly or wrap it some kind of lazy wrapper (for example I want to make a certain map transformation on result sequence), SQL-related bindings will be reset and connection will be closed after I return, so realizing the sequence will throw an exception. How can I enclose the whole function in a closure and return a kind of anonymous iterator block (like yield in C# or Python)? Or is there another way to return a lazy sequence from this function?

  I'm a python guy and very new to R (so far, all I've done is copy-paste code and screen-shot the resulting, graph). I would now like to actually learn the language so that I can draw useful plots (right now, I am trying to plot this). In attempting my first plot, I came across this function call: sets_options("universe", seq(from = 0, to = 25, by = 0.1)) Now, I would like to know if I can achieve the same result by calling sets_options("universe", seq(0, 25, 0.1)) The help page for seq doesn't speak to this specifically (or I'm not reading it correctly), so I was hoping someone could shed some light on how R handles positional arguments I tried calling the function that way in R and it worked (no syntax errors, etc), but I don't know how to test the output of that function, so I'm forced to ask here
