• Why distant objects draw in front of close objects?

- by cad
I am rendering two cubes in the space using XNA 4.0 and the layering of objects only works from certain angles. Here is what I see from the front angle (everything ok) Here is what I see from behind This is my draw method. Cubes are drawn by serverManager and serverManager1 protected override void Draw(GameTime gameTime) { GraphicsDevice.Clear(Color.CornflowerBlue); switch (_gameStateFSM.State) { case GameFSMState.GameStateFSM.INTROSCREEN: spriteBatch.Begin(); introscreen.Draw(spriteBatch); spriteBatch.End(); break; case GameFSMState.GameStateFSM.GAME: spriteBatch.Begin(SpriteSortMode.Deferred, BlendState.AlphaBlend); // Text screenMessagesManager.Draw(spriteBatch, firstPersonCamera.cameraPosition, fpsHelper.framesPerSecond); // Camera firstPersonCamera.Draw(); // Servers serverManager.Draw(GraphicsDevice, firstPersonCamera.viewMatrix, firstPersonCamera.projMatrix); serverManager1.Draw(GraphicsDevice, firstPersonCamera.viewMatrix, firstPersonCamera.projMatrix); // Room //roomManager.Draw(GraphicsDevice, firstPersonCamera.viewMatrix); spriteBatch.End(); break; case GameFSMState.GameStateFSM.EXITGAME: break; default: break; } base.Draw(gameTime); fpsHelper.IncrementFrameCounter(); } serverManager and serverManager1 are instances of the same class ServerManager that draws a cube. The draw method for ServerManager is: public void Draw(GraphicsDevice graphicsDevice, Matrix viewMatrix, Matrix projectionMatrix) { cubeEffect.World = Matrix.CreateTranslation(modelPosition); // Set the World matrix which defines the position of the cube cubeEffect.View = viewMatrix; // Set the View matrix which defines the camera and what it's looking at cubeEffect.Projection = projectionMatrix; // Enable textures on the Cube Effect. this is necessary to texture the model cubeEffect.TextureEnabled = true; cubeEffect.Texture = cubeTexture; // Enable some pretty lights cubeEffect.EnableDefaultLighting(); // apply the effect and render the cube foreach (EffectPass pass in cubeEffect.CurrentTechnique.Passes) { pass.Apply(); cubeToDraw.RenderToDevice(graphicsDevice); } } Obviously there is something I am doing wrong. Any hint of where to look? (Maybe z-buffer or occlusion tests?)

• Optionally Running SPSecurity.RunWithElevatedPrivileges with Delgates

- by Damon Armstrong
I was writing some SharePoint code today where I needed to give people the option of running some code with elevated permission.  When you run code in an elevated fashion it normally looks like this: SPSecurity.RunWithElevatedPrivileges(()=> {     //Code to run }); It wasn’t a lot of code so I was initially inclined to do something horrible like this: public void SomeMethod(bool runElevated) {     if(runElevated)     {         SPSecurity.RunWithElevatedPrivileges(()=>         {             //Code to run         });     }     else     {         //Copy of code to run     } } Easy enough, but I did not want to draw the ire of my coworkers for employing the CTRL+C CTRL+V design pattern.  Extracting the code into a whole new method would have been overkill because it was a pretty brief piece of code.  But then I thought, hey, wait, I’m basically just running a delegate, so why not define the delegate once and run it either in an elevated context or stand alone, which resulted in this version which I think is much cleaner because the code is only defined once and it didn’t require a bunch of extra lines of code to define a method: public void SomeMethod(bool runElevated) {     var code = new SPSecurity.CodeToRunElevated(()=>     {         //Code to run     });     if(runElevated)     {         SPSecurity.RunWithElevatedPermissions(code);         }     else     {         Code();     } }

• A Simple Entity Tagger

- by Elton Stoneman
In the REST world, ETags are your gateway to performance boosts by letting clients cache responses. In the non-REST world, you may also want to add an ETag to an entity definition inside a traditional service contract – think of a scenario where a consumer persists its own representation of your entity, and wants to keep it in sync. Rather than load every entity by ID and check for changes, the consumer can send in a set of linked IDs and ETags, and you can return only the entities where the current ETag is different from the consumer’s version. If your entity is a projection from various sources, you may not have a persistent ETag, so you need an efficient way to generate an ETag which is deterministic, so an entity with the same state always generates the same ETag. I have an implementation for a generic ETag generator on GitHub here: EntityTagger code sample. The essence is simple - we get the entity, serialize it and build a hash from the serialized value. Any changes to either the state or the structure of the entity will result in a different hash. To use it, just call SetETag, passing your populated object and a Func<> which acts as an accessor to the ETag property: EntityTagger.SetETag(user, x => x.ETag); The implementation is all in at 80 lines of code, which is all pretty straightforward: var eTagProperty = AsPropertyInfo(eTagPropertyAccessor); var originalETag = eTagProperty.GetValue(entity, null); try { ResetETag(entity, eTagPropertyAccessor); string json; var serializer = new DataContractJsonSerializer(entity.GetType()); using (var stream = new MemoryStream()) { serializer.WriteObject(stream, entity); json = Encoding.UTF8.GetString(stream.GetBuffer(), 0, (int)stream.Length); } var guid = GetDeterministicGuid(json); eTagProperty.SetValue(entity, guid.ToString(), null); //... There are a couple of helper methods to check if the object has changed since the ETag value was last set, and to reset the ETag. This implementation uses JSON to do the serializing rather than XML. Benefit - should be marginally more efficient as your hashing a much smaller serialized string; downside, JSON doesn't include namespaces or class names at the root level, so if you have two classes with the exact same structure but different names, then instances which have the same content will have the same ETag. You may want that behaviour, but change to use the XML DataContractSerializer if you think that will be an issue. If you can persist the ETag somewhere, it will save you server processing to load up the entity, but that will only apply to scenarios where you can reliably invalidate your ETag (e.g. if you control all the entry points where entity contents can be updated, then you can calculate and persist the new ETag with each update).

• Problem texturing with opengl

- by Killrazor
Hello! I'm having problems making a simple sprite rendering. I load 2 different textures. Then, I bind these textures and draw 2 squares, one with each texture. But only the texture of the first rendered object is drawn in both squares. Its like if I'd only use a texture or as if glBindTexture don't work properly. I know that GL is a state machine, but I think that you only need to change active texture with glBindTexture. I load texture with this method: bool CTexture::generate( utils::CImageBuff* img ) { assert(img); m_image = img; CHECKGL(glGenTextures(1,&m_textureID)); CHECKGL(glBindTexture(GL_TEXTURE_2D,m_textureID)); CHECKGL(glTexParameteri(GL_TEXTURE_2D,GL_TEXTURE_MIN_FILTER,GL_LINEAR)); CHECKGL(glTexParameteri(GL_TEXTURE_2D,GL_TEXTURE_MAG_FILTER,GL_LINEAR)); //CHECKGL(glTexImage2D(GL_TEXTURE_2D,0,img->getBpp(),img->getWitdh(),img->getHeight(),0,img->getFormat(),GL_UNSIGNED_BYTE,img->getImgData())); CHECKGL(glTexImage2D(GL_TEXTURE_2D, 0, GL_RGBA, img->getWitdh(), img->getHeight(), 0, GL_RGBA, GL_UNSIGNED_BYTE, img->getImgData())); return true; } And I bind textures with this function: void CTexture::bind() { CHECKGL(glBindTexture(GL_TEXTURE_2D,m_textureID)); } Also, I draw sprites with this method void CSprite2D::render() { CHECKGL(glLoadIdentity()); CHECKGL(glEnable(GL_TEXTURE_2D)); CHECKGL(glEnable(GL_BLEND)); CHECKGL(glBlendFunc(GL_SRC_ALPHA, GL_ONE_MINUS_SRC_ALPHA)); m_texture->bind(); CHECKGL(glPushMatrix()); CHECKGL(glBegin(GL_QUADS)); CHECKGL(glTexCoord2f(m_textureAreaStart.s,m_textureAreaStart.t)); // 0,0 by default CHECKGL(glVertex3i(m_position.x,m_position.y,0)); CHECKGL(glTexCoord2f(m_textureAreaEnd.s,m_textureAreaStart.t)); // 1,0 by default CHECKGL(glVertex3i( m_position.x + m_dimensions.x, m_position.y, 0)); CHECKGL(glTexCoord2f(m_textureAreaEnd.s, m_textureAreaEnd.t)); // 1,1 by default CHECKGL(glVertex3i( m_position.x + m_dimensions.x, m_position.y + m_dimensions.y, 0)); CHECKGL(glTexCoord2f(m_textureAreaStart.s, m_textureAreaEnd.t)); // 0,1 by default CHECKGL(glVertex3i( m_position.x, m_position.y + m_dimensions.y,0)); CHECKGL(glPopMatrix()); CHECKGL(glDisable(GL_BLEND)); } Could you help me? All help is welcome. Thanks!!

• How can I fix the screen blurred while installing Ubuntu 12.10 Bate1

- by Marslo
I installed Ubuntu 12.10 Bate1 yesterday, but the screen blurred always shows after selecting Install Ubuntu on a Hard Disk option and before waiting for the installation interface. Click here to check the screenshot. The method of installation is by U-disk, the name of Ubuntu 12.10 is quantal-desktop-i386.iso (the download link is from Universal-USB-Installer), and Universal-USB-Installer was used to write the Ubuntu 12.10 into U-disk. PS. Ubuntu 12.04 could be installed successful on my computer!

• Do first-class methods exist?

- by gdhoward
Okay, I know first-class functions are cool, closures even better, etc. But is there any language with first-class methods? In my mind, I see a first-class method as an "object" that has both a function pointer and a pointer to a specific instance of the class/object, but the implementation doesn't matter. I just want to know if there is any language that uses them. And as a bonus, how were they implemented?

• Cocos2D - Detecting collision

- by Grace
I am a beginner in cocos2d and im facing a problem with detecting collision for my coins. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. So basically, im creating a game which the user (ship) have to avoid the obstacles and collect coins on the way. The collision of the obstacle works well but not for the coins. I was thinking maybe the loops for creating many coins is the problem but im not sure. Can anyone help? My codes: - (void)update:(ccTime)dt{ double curTime = CACurrentMediaTime(); if (curTime > _nextBridgeSpawn) { float randSecs = [self randomValueBetween:3.0 andValue:5.0]; _nextBridgeSpawn = randSecs + curTime; float randX = [self randomValueBetween:50 andValue:500]; float randDuration = [self randomValueBetween:8.0 andValue:10.0]; CCSprite *bridge = [_bridge objectAtIndex:_nextBridge]; _nextBridge++; if (_nextBridge >= _bridge.count) _nextBridge = 0; [bridge stopAllActions]; bridge.position = ccp(winSize.width/2, winSize.height); bridge.visible = YES; [bridge runAction:[CCSequence actions: [CCMoveBy actionWithDuration:randDuration position:ccp(0, -winSize.height)], [CCCallFuncN actionWithTarget:self selector:@selector(setInvisible:)], nil]]; this is where i declare my coins (continued from the update method) int randCoin = [self randomValueBetween:0 andValue:5]; _coin = [[CCArray alloc] initWithCapacity:randCoin]; for(int i = 0; i < randCoin; ++i) { coin = [CCSprite spriteWithFile:@"coin.png"]; coin.visible = NO; [self addChild:coin]; [_coin addObject:coin]; } float randCoinX = [self randomValueBetween:winSize.width/5 andValue:winSize.width - (border.contentSize.width *2)]; float randCoinY = [self randomValueBetween:100 andValue:700]; float randCoinPlace = [self randomValueBetween:30 andValue:60]; for (int i = 0; i < _coin.count; ++i) { CCSprite *coin2 = [_coin objectAtIndex:i]; coin2.position = ccp(randCoinX, (bridge.position.y + randCoinY) + (randCoinPlace *i)); coin2.visible = YES; [coin2 runAction:[CCSequence actions: [CCMoveBy actionWithDuration:randDuration position:ccp(0, -winSize.height-2000)], [CCCallFuncN actionWithTarget:self selector:@selector(setInvisible:)], nil]]; } } this is to check for collision (also in the update method) for (CCSprite *bridge in _bridge) { if (!bridge.visible) continue; if (CGRectIntersectsRect(ship.boundingBox, bridge.boundingBox)){ bridge.visible = NO; [ship runAction:[CCBlink actionWithDuration:1.0 blinks:5]]; } } } //this is the collision for coins which only work at times for (CCSprite *coin2 in _coin) { if (!coin2.visible) continue; if (CGRectIntersectsRect(ship.boundingBox, coin2.boundingBox)) { NSLog(@"Coin collected"); coin2.visible = NO; } } } Thank you.

• Copying Properties between 2 Different Types…

- by Shawn Cicoria
I’m not sure where I had seen some of this base code, but this comes up time & time again on projects. Here’s a little method that copies all the R/W properties (public) between 2 distinct class definitions: It’s called as follows: private static void Test1() { MyClass obj1 = new MyClass() { Prop1 = "one", Prop2 = "two", Prop3 = 100 }; MyOtherClass obj2 = null; obj2 = CopyClass(obj1); Console.WriteLine(obj1); Console.WriteLine(obj2); } namespace Space1 { public class MyClass { public string Prop1 { get; set; } public string Prop2 { get; set; } public int Prop3 { get; set; } public override string ToString() { var rv = string.Format("MyClass: {0} Prop2: {1} Prop3 {2}", Prop1, Prop2, Prop3); return rv; } } } namespace Space2 { public class MyOtherClass { public string Prop1 { get; set; } public string Prop2 { get; set; } public int Prop3 { get; set; } public override string ToString() { var rv = string.Format("MyOtherClass: {0} Prop2: {1} Prop3 {2}", Prop1, Prop2, Prop3); return rv; } } Source of the method: /// /// Provides a Copy of Public fields between 2 distinct classes /// /// Source class name /// Target class name /// Instance of type Source /// An instance of type Target copying all public properties matching name from the Source. public static T CopyClass(S source) where T : new() { T target = default(T); BindingFlags flags = BindingFlags.Public | BindingFlags.Instance; if (source == null) { return (T)target; } if (target == null) target = new T(); PropertyInfo[] objProperties = target.GetType().GetProperties(flags); foreach (PropertyInfo pi in objProperties) { string name = pi.Name; PropertyInfo sourceProp = source.GetType().GetProperty(name, flags); if (sourceProp == null) { throw new ApplicationException(string.Format("CopyClass - object type {0} & {1} mismatch in property:{2}", source.GetType(), target.GetType(), name)); } if (pi.CanWrite && sourceProp.CanRead) { object sourceValue = sourceProp.GetValue(source, null); pi.SetValue(target, sourceValue, null); } else { throw new ApplicationException(string.Format("CopyClass - can't read/write a property object types {0} & {1} property:{2}", source.GetType(), target.GetType(), name)); } } return target; }

• Is there an equivalent of jsqlparser but for SPARQL instead of SQL?

- by Programmer
I'm trying to use Java to construct a SPARQL query, and then send it off to a remote database. However, I'm new to both Java and SPARQL, so I was wondering if anyone could explain how to do this, rather than just posting a link. I heard there is a tool called jsqlparser for the same task, except that it's for a SQL to SPARQL conversion using Java. Conversion nor parser won't be necessary, just a method for constructing a query and querying the database provided by the user.

Meaning there X/Y on the screen, if the PlayerA has a higher FPS(Frames Per Second) then other players, the resulting action will be that PlayerA will move faster than everyone else. I know the reasoning for this, it's because when the game draws I just use: x++; What would a better method be?

• How can I combine my FTP queries? [migrated]

- by ryansworld10
My program has several times where it queries an FTP server to read and upload information. How can I combine all these into one FTP class to handle everything? private static void UploadToFTP(string[] FTPSettings) { try { FtpWebRequest request = (FtpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create(FTPSettings[0]); request.Method = WebRequestMethods.Ftp.MakeDirectory; request.Credentials = new NetworkCredential(FTPSettings[1], FTPSettings[2]); FtpWebResponse response = (FtpWebResponse)request.GetResponse(); } catch { } try { FtpWebRequest request = (FtpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create(FTPSettings[0] + Path.GetFileName(file)); request.Method = WebRequestMethods.Ftp.UploadFile; request.Credentials = new NetworkCredential(FTPSettings[1], FTPSettings[2]); StreamReader source = new StreamReader(file); byte[] fileContents = Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(source.ReadToEnd()); source.Close(); request.ContentLength = fileContents.Length; Stream requestStream = request.GetRequestStream(); requestStream.Write(fileContents, 0, fileContents.Length); requestStream.Close(); FtpWebResponse response = (FtpWebResponse)request.GetResponse(); response.Close(); RegenLog(); } catch (Exception e) { File.AppendAllText(file, string.Format("{0}{0}Upload Failed - ({2}) - {1}{0}", nl, System.DateTime.Now, e.Message.ToString())); } } private static void CheckBlacklist(string[] FTPSettings) { try { FtpWebRequest request = (FtpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create(FTPSettings[0] + "blacklist.txt"); request.Credentials = new NetworkCredential(FTPSettings[1], FTPSettings[2]); using (WebResponse response = request.GetResponse()) { using (Stream stream = response.GetResponseStream()) { using (TextReader reader = new StreamReader(stream)) { string blacklist = reader.ReadToEnd(); if (blacklist.Contains(Environment.UserName)) { File.AppendAllText(file, string.Format("{0}{0}Logger terminated - ({2}) - {1}{0}", nl, System.DateTime.Now, "Blacklisted")); uninstall = true; } } } } } catch (Exception e) { File.AppendAllText(file, string.Format("{0}{0}FTP Error - ({2}) - {1}{0}", nl, System.DateTime.Now, e.Message.ToString())); } } private static void CheckUpdate(string[] FTPSettings) { try { FtpWebRequest request = (FtpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create(FTPSettings[0] + "update.txt"); request.Credentials = new NetworkCredential(FTPSettings[1], FTPSettings[2]); using (WebResponse response = request.GetResponse()) { using (Stream stream = response.GetResponseStream()) { using (TextReader reader = new StreamReader(stream)) { string newVersion = reader.ReadToEnd(); if (newVersion != version) { update = true; } } } } } catch (Exception e) { File.AppendAllText(file, string.Format("{0}{0}FTP Error - ({2}) - {1}{0}", nl, System.DateTime.Now, e.Message.ToString())); } } I know my code is also a bit inconsistent and messy, however this is my first time working with FTP in C#. Please give any advice you have!

• Application workflow

- by manseuk
I am in the planning process for a new application, the application will be written in PHP (using the Symfony 2 framework) but I'm not sure how relevant that is. The application will be browser based, although there will eventually be API access for other systems to interact with the data stored within the application, again probably not relavent at this point. The application manages SIM cards for lots of different providers - each SIM card belongs to a single provider but a single customer might have many SIM cards across many providers. The application allows the user to perform actions against the SIM card - for example Activate it, Barr it, Check on its status etc Some of the providers provide an API for doing this - so a single access point with multiple methods eg activateSIM, getStatus, barrSIM etc. The method names differ for each provider and some providers offer methods for extra functions that others don't. Some providers don't have APIs but do offer these methods by sending emails with attachments - the attachments are normally a CSV file that contains the SIM reference and action required - the email is processed by the provider and replied to once the action has been complete. To give you an example - the front end of my application will provide a customer with a list of SIM cards they own and give them access to the actions that are provided by the provider of each specific SIM card - some methods may require extra data which will either be stored in the backend or collected from the user frontend. Once the user has selected their action and added any required data I will handle the process in the backend and provide either instant feedback, in the case of the providers with APIs, or start the process off by sending an email and waiting for its reply before processing it and updating the backend so that next time the user checks the SIM card its status is correct (ie updated by a backend process). My reason for creating this question is because I'm stuck !! I'm confused about how to approach the actual workflow logic. I was thinking about creating a Provider Interface with the most common methods getStatus, activateSIM and barrSIM and then implementing that interface for each provider. So class Provider1 implements Provider - Then use a Factory to create the required class depending on user selected SIM card and invoking the method selected. This would work fine if all providers offered the same methods but they don't - there are a subset which are common but some providers offer extra methods - how can I implement that flexibly ? How can I deal with the processes where the workflow is different - ie some methods require and API call and value returned and some require an email to be sent and the next stage of the process doesn't start until the email reply is recieved ... Please help ! (I hope this is a readable question and that this is the correct place to be asking) Update I guess what I'm trying to avoid is a big if or switch / case statement - some design pattern that gives me a flexible approach to implementing this kind of fluid workflow .. anyone ?
