  I have a named scopes like so... named_scope :gender, lambda { |gender| { :joins => {:survey_session => :profile }, :conditions => { :survey_sessions => { :profiles => { :gender => gender } } } } } and when I call it everything works fine. I also have this average method I call... Answer.average(:rating, :include => {:survey_session => :profile}, :group => "profiles.career") which also works fine if I call it like that. However if I were to call it like so... Answer.gender('m').average(:rating, :include => {:survey_session => :profile}, :group => "profiles.career") I get... ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid: PGError: ERROR: table name "profiles" specified more than once : SELECT avg("answers".rating) AS avg_rating, profiles.career AS profiles_career FROM "answers" LEFT OUTER JOIN "survey_sessions" survey_sessions_answers ON "survey_sessions_answers".id = "answers".survey_session_id LEFT OUTER JOIN "profiles" ON "profiles".id = "survey_sessions_answers".profile_id INNER JOIN "survey_sessions" ON "survey_sessions".id = "answers".survey_session_id INNER JOIN "profiles" ON "profiles".id = "survey_sessions".profile_id WHERE ("profiles"."gender" = E'm') GROUP BY profiles.career Which is a little hard to read but says I'm including the table profiles twice. If I were to just remove the include from average it works but it isn't really practical because average is actually being called inside a method which gets passed the scoped. So there is some times gender or average might get called with out each other and if either was missing the profile include it wouldn't work. So either I need to know how to fix this apparent bug in Rails or figure out a way to know what scopes were applied to a ActiveRecord::NamedScope::Scope object so that I could check to see if they have been applied and if not add the include for average.

The idea is this: If a User has Excel Open, if he has the file I'm interested in open... get that Excel instance and do whatever I want to do... But I don't to close his File after I'm done... I want him to keep working on it, the problem is that when he closes Excel... Control a open instance of excel and releasing everything so when the user closes it with the X button, the Excel Process dies normally??? Thanks!!!

  I have a tcp socket sending three lines like this out2.println("message1\n"); out2.println("message2\n"); out2.println("message3\n"); and another tco socket receiving and displaying these messages like this System.out.println(in.readLine()); System.out.println(in.readLine()); System.out.println(in.readLine()); but only the first message is recieved and displayed, anything I send after that is not.

  I have 2 classes: Person and Contact. Person class has a property named ContactNumber which returns the Contact type, and this property is marked as a DataMember for serialization. I have marked Contact type as a DataContract. On the client side I am able to get the values, but when I try to insert a value and then do submit, I get the following exception: Failed to deserialize change-set. • How to allow for modular development while still running in same JVM?

  Our current app runs in a single JVM. We are now splitting up the app into separate logical services where each service runs in its own JVM. The split is being done to allow a single service to be modified and deployed without impacting the entire system. This reduces the need to QA the entire system - just need to QA the interaction with the service being changed. For interservice communication we use a combination of REST, an MQ system bus, and database views. What I don't like about this: REST means we have to marshal data to/from XML DB views couple the systems together which defeats the whole concept of separate services MQ / system bus is added complexity There is inevitably some code duplication between services You have set up n JBoss server configurations, we have to do n number of deployments, n number of set up scripts, etc, etc. Is there a better way to structure an internal application to allow modular development and deployment while allowing the app to run in a single JVM (and achieving the associated benefits)?

• Need cause for: double dialer icon in Recents when ACTION_CALL is intercepted and re-sent

  Note that this happens on Android version 2.1 update1 and 2.2. This seems gone in later versions. Of course I would like to know the workaround. But if there are none, at least if this is a known bug, please provide with a link to the bug. I would also accept the source code fix info or diff where this was fixed. I have an application that intercepts an outgoing call, asks a question to the user, and then depending on the answer it could re-send the call. This works fine. But then when you go to the Recents (hold the Home key) there are two slightly different dialer icons there: one from the dialer application, and a second one for the resending of the call action: This means when you click on the first icon, it opens the dialer. But when you click on the second one, it redials the last number. I tried using android:excludeFromRecents="true" for all my activities. I also tried Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_EXCLUDE_FROM_RECENTS when I start the call action. No luck.

The leave event looks like: private void txtbox_startdate_Leave(object sender, EventArgs e) {} The trouble is of course if I try and call it in this manner: txtbox_startdate_Validating(sender, e) An error is raised because in this case 'e' is an EventArgs whereas the validation function wants a System.ComponentModel.CancelEventArgs and so, how do I convert EventArgs to a System.ComponentModel.CancelEventArgs or create one so that I can call my validation function? • Tail recursion and memoization with C#

  I'm writing a function that finds the full path of a directory based on a database table of entries. Each record contains a key, the directory's name, and the key of the parent directory (it's the Directory table in an MSI if you're familiar). I had an iterative solution, but it started looking a little nasty. I thought I could write an elegant tail recursive solution, but I'm not sure anymore. I'll show you my code and then explain the issues I'm facing. I want to use memoization to short circuit whenever possible, but that requires me to make a function call to the dictionary to store the output of the recursive ExpandDirectoryKey call. I realize that I also have a Path.Combine call there, but I think that can be circumvented with a ... + Path.DirectorySeparatorChar + .... I thought about using a helper method that would memoize the directory and return the value so that I could call it like this at the end of the function above: return MemoizeHelper( m_directoryKeyToFullPathDictionary, Path.Combine(ExpandDirectoryKey(database, parentDirectoryKey)), directoryName); But I feel like that's cheating and not going to be optimized as tail recursion. Any ideas? Should I be using a completely different strategy? This doesn't need to be a super efficient algorithm at all, I'm just really curious. I'm using .NET 4.0, btw. Thanks!

  Hi all; i want to use reflection in java, i want to do that third class will read the name of the class as String from console. Upon reading the name of the class, it will automatically and dynamically (!) generate that class and call its writeout method. If that class is not read from input, it will not be initialized. • Thread-safe data structure design

  Hello, I have to design a data structure that is to be used in a multi-threaded environment. The basic API is simple: insert element, remove element, retrieve element, check that element exists. The structure's implementation uses implicit locking to guarantee the atomicity of a single API call. After i implemented this it became apparent, that what i really need is atomicity across several API calls. For example if a caller needs to check the existence of an element before trying to insert it he can't do that atomically even if each single API call is atomic: if(!data_structure.exists(element)) { data_structure.insert(element); } The example is somewhat awkward, but the basic point is that we can't trust the result of "exists" call anymore after we return from atomic context (the generated assembly clearly shows a minor chance of context switch between the two calls). What i currently have in mind to solve this is exposing the lock through the data structure's public API. This way clients will have to explicitly lock things, but at least they won't have to create their own locks. Is there a better commonly-known solution to these kinds of problems? And as long as we're at it, can you advise some good literature on thread-safe design? EDIT: I have a better example. Suppose that element retrieval returns either a reference or a pointer to the stored element and not it's copy. How can a caller be protected to safely use this pointer\reference after the call returns? If you think that not returning copies is a problem, then think about deep copies, i.e. objects that should also copy another objects they point to internally. Thank you.

  I'm trying to get the weighted average of a few numbers. Basically I have: Price - 134.42 Quantity - 15236545 There can be as few as one or two or as many as fifty or sixty pairs of prices and quantities. I need to figure out the weighted average of the price. Basically, the weighted average should give very little weight to pairs like Price - 100000000.00 Quantity - 3 and more to the pair above. The formula I currently have is: ((price)(quantity) + (price)(quantity) + ...)/totalQuantity So far I have this done: double optimalPrice = 0; int totalQuantity = 0; double rolling = 0; System.out.println(rolling); Iterator it = orders.entrySet().iterator(); while(it.hasNext()) { System.out.println("inside"); Map.Entry order = (Map.Entry)it.next(); double price = (Double)order.getKey(); int quantity = (Integer)order.getValue(); System.out.println(price + " " + quantity); rolling += price * quantity; totalQuantity += quantity; System.out.println(rolling); } System.out.println(rolling); return totalQuantity / rolling; The problem is I very quickly max out the "rolling" variable.   Hi, I have strange problem with my Neatens+Maven installation. It just ignores my input. It's look like infinitive loop in System.out.println(param);. However this project works fine when it's compiled as "Java Aplication" project. It also works O.K. if I build and run it from cmd. System info: Os: Vista IDE: Netbeans 6.8 Maven: apache-maven-2.2.1 //edit Built program (using mavean from Netbeans) works fine. I just can't test it using Net beans. And I think I forgot to ask the question ;). So of course my first question is: how can I fix this problem? And second is: Is it any workaround for this? For example configuring Netbeans to run external commend line app instead of using built in console.

• What is the best tool to achieve this API design?

  Our web app offers a service that allows a "Publisher" to create a website (we give them a CMS system) that is ready to provide this service to "Members" (think Shopify). We have some possible clients that wish to become "Publishers" but they already have existing websites (vbulletin, word press blog, etc) with their own user base. We wish to develop an API that would allow these "Publishers" to keep using their own websites, and embed our services into them. Our main business requirement is that once "Members" are logged into the "Publishers" existing system, they should be able to also access our website without having to log-in again OR have to create another account there. The process should be seamless to the "Member" and "Publishers" should not have to sync their user base with our system. We also want to use an existing API authentication/authorization system instead of creating our own (OAuth, OpenID, etc) What would be the best way to use OAuth to achieve this sigle-sign on design? If OAuth is not the best tool, is there any other one out there that fits our requirements?

A cursory look at versions of things like compilers, Visual Studio etc on the server and desktop suggest they are the same. The source code is the same, obviously. What is the difference between a desktop build and TFS build that would smother a compiler error like this?

  We have an application which requires us to read data from a file (.dat) dynamically using deserialization. We are actually getting first object and it throws null pointer exception and "java.io.StreamCorruptedException:invalid type code:AC" when we are accessing other objects using a "for" loop.
