    I am working on an Asset Database problem. I enter assets into a database. Every object is an asset and has variables within the asset table. An object is also a type of asset. In this example the type is server. Here is the Query to retrieve all necessary data: SELECT asset.id ,asset.company ,asset.location ,asset.purchaseDate ,asset.purchaseOrder ,asset.value ,asset.type ,asset.notes ,server.manufacturer ,server.model ,server.serialNumber ,server.esc ,server.warranty ,server.user ,server.prevUser ,server.cpu ,server.memory ,server.hardDrive FROM asset LEFT JOIN server ON server.id = asset.id WHERE asset.id = '$id' How would I write a query to update an asset?

WHERE ..." statement. having a table (without extra constraint), +----------+ | id | name| +----------+ | 1 | a | +----+-----+ now, I would execute following 4 statements "at the same time" (concurrently). UPDATE table SET name='b1' WHERE name='a' UPDATE table SET name='b2' WHERE name='a' UPDATE table SET name='b3' WHERE name='a' UPDATE table SET name='b4' WHERE name='a' is there only one UPDATE statement would be executed with table update? or, is it possible that more than one UPDATE statements can really update the table? should I need extra transaction or lock to let only one UPDATE write values into table? thanks

  • Sharepoint database connection issue after upgrade to SQL Server 2008 R2

    I took a backup of all our Sharepoint WSS 3.0 databases and restored them to a new Windows 2008 R2 server. The new SQL server has the same name and IP address as the old one. The only difference between the two is the new one has SQL 2008 R2 and the old one has SQL 2005. When I navigate to the sharepoint url I get this error: Cannot connect to the configuration database. I checked the logs at this location: "%commonprogramfiles%/Microsoft Shared/web server extensions/12/Logs" and found this error: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Login failed. The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Windows authentication. Any ideas?

    I have a product category table with the following fields: cat_id (PK) Cat_name Cat_desc Parent_Cat_Id Now when a user wants to add a product he should be able to select multiple categories from a listbox(multiselection enabaled). But to let the user know the hierarchy of the categories, I need to display them in the following style: parent category 1 parent category 1-sub category 1 parent category 1-sub category 1-sub-sub category 1 parent category 1-sub category 1-sub-sub category 2 parent category 1-sub category 2 Parent category 2 ... I know that to achieve this I need to use recursive programming. But how can we do it via stored procedures? That would be much more efficient, right? Thanks in advance for your kind help.

  • Populating fields, input types etc using JSON

    I have a form that works as follows.. Server request builds XML of the data on server side and sends xml, XSL stylesheet then transforms the XML data into the plain html page distributing the data to the relevant/desired locations of the form on the page. Person can view page and edit the populated form, submit back to DB. I think JSON is more suitable for this from what I have read. The form itself is split into 3 areas, for me this is 3 maps/associative arrays etc each with a name related to the id of an input element etc. The problem for me comes with having the JSON sent to the page, what should I do with it next in order to achieve the same result as I currently get with XML and XSL.     I have a save function for my order entity that looks like this and it breaks on the sumbmitChanges line: public void SaveOrder ( Order order ) { if (order.OrderId == 0) orderTable.InsertOnSubmit(order); else if (orderTable.GetOriginalEntityState(order) == null) { orderTable.Attach(order); orderTable.Context.Refresh(RefreshMode.KeepCurrentValues , order); } orderTable.Context.SubmitChanges(); } The order entity contains two other entities; an Address entity and a credit card entity. Now i want these two entities to be null sometimes. Now my guess for why this is throwing an error is because that both of these entites that are inside order are null. If this is the case, How can I insert an new order into the database with both entities (Address and creditCard) being null.

  • Adding WCF service reference adds DataContract types too

    Hi everybody, I've used Visual Studio's Add Service Reference feature to add a service (actually it is a workflow service, created in WF4 RC1, but I don't think this makes any difference), and it also added the DataContracts that the service uses. At first this seemed fine, because All I've had in the DataContracts was simply properties, with no implementations. But now I've added code in the constructor of one data contracts that initializes creates an instance of one of the properties that exposes a list of other DCs, and when I've updated the service reference via VS (2010 RC1), the implementation was not updated. What should I do? Should I use my DCs instead of the ones created by VS or should I use the ones VS created? I've noticed that the properties in the VS-generated DCs contain some additional logic for checking equality in the setters and they also implement some interfaces too (like IExtensibleDataObject and INotifyPropertyChanged) which might get handy I guess in the future (I'm not knowledgeable at WCF).     Is VS2010, I analyzed my code and got this error: Warning 64 CA1050 : Microsoft.Design : 'ApplicationVariables' should be declared inside a namespace. C:\My\Code\BESI\BESI\App_Code\ApplicationVariables.vb 10 C:\...\BESI\ Here is some reference info on the error. Essentially, I tried to create a class to be used to access data in the Application object in a typed way. The warning message said unless I put my (ApplicationVariables) class in a Namespace, that I wouldn't be able to use it. But I am using it, so what gives? Also, here is a link to another StackOverflow article that talks about how to disable this warning in VS2008, but how would you disable it for 2010? There is no GlobalSuppressions.vb file for VS2010.
