• JBoss Developer Studio exploaded SAR/EAR/WAR deployment

  I am new to JBoss DS and I could not figur out is how to make a folder from my project deployable, exploded SAR in my case. If I create a new server in the JBoss server view / JBoss AS perspective and select a SAR and make it a deployable then the SAR file can be deployed on the JBoss server. Another approch that I have tryed is to make the *-service.xml file as a deployable element, same procedure as with the SAR file, and to add the Eclipse project as a dependency to the classpath of the server 'Open launch configuration' / 'Classpath' after dooing this I got an error from JBoss telling me that the JBoss classes are not found. The compromise solution that I have found is to create a junction/symlink from the output of the Eclipse project 'bin' into the JBoss 'serve//deploy/xxx.sar' this is a temporary solution but will not scale in the future as multiple services must be created. What I would need: I would need to have the ability to make the exploded folder as 'mark deployable' and to be have the classes/*service.xml files loaded from there and to have hot-deployability for them. Any sugestions would help.

• WCF REST with jQuery AJAX - removing/working around same origin policy

  So I'm trying to create a C# WCF REST service that is called by jQuery. I've discovered that jQuery requires that AJAX calls are made under the same origin policy. I have a few questions for how I might proceed. I am already aware of; 1. The hacky solution of JSONP with a server callback 2. The way too much server overhead of having a cross-domain proxy. 3. Using Flash in the browser to make the call and setting up crossdomain.xml at my WCF server root. I'd rather not use these because; 1. I don't want to use JSON, or at least I don't want to be restricted to using it 2. I would like to separate the server that serves static pages from the one that serves application state. 3. Flash in this day in age is out of the question. What I'm thinking: is there anything like Flash's crossdomain.xml file that works for jQuery? Is this "same-origin" policy a part of jQuery or is it a restriction in specific browsers? If it's just a part of jQuery, maybe I'll try digging in the code to work around it.

• Eclipse Helios on OS X Snow Leopard crashes frequently when editing certain PHP files

  I use Eclipse Helios (Eclipse Platform: 3.6.0.I20100608-0911, Eclipse IDE for PHP Developers: 1.3.0.20100617-0520) all the time on OS X (Snow Leopard), and it seems I only run into trouble whenever I'm editing a PHP file that's part of the WordPress blogging framework. When I move my cursor to a variable or function name, that often triggers the beach ball of death. I suspect Eclipse is trying to look up that variable/function and for some reason that causes an endless loop. Sometimes it's not just variables or functions. Just today I was trying to replace all occurrences of a quoted string. Every time I clicked "Replace All", the program would freeze immediately after the string was replaced and the text cursor was moved to the replaced position. I think the moving of the text cursor is important, because I got the same result when I searched for the string (thus moving the cursor), but NOT when I searched for a nonexistent string. I tried disabling everything in my preferences related to marked occurrences, hovering, code assistance, etc. Nothing helps. I use Eclipse for all my projects, and I find that it's only WordPress projects where this happens. This value will be overwritten using the values from the preferences I did some experimenting with the particular script that's giving me trouble. It's a hybrid of HTML and PHP, so Eclipse has to do both HTML and PHP validation. I wondered if the HTML validation had something to do with it, so I created a new file, copied the contents over, and messed with the doctype element. I found that if I replaced the well-formed XHTML 1.0 Strict doctype element with a generic doctype (as such: <!DOCTYPE html>), then I did not crash the program just by moving the cursor around. I set all HTML validation rules to "Ignore", but it still didn't solve my problems. For now, I'm just going to echo the doctype using PHP instead of entering it literally. That seems to prevent crashes. I notice that when I move the cursor around the document, Eclipse displays the "xpath" to my current location at the bottom of the screen. Sometimes there's a delay while it figures out my current path. Perhaps when it's validating against the Strict doctype, it has problems quickly calculating the xpath as I move the cursor around? Maybe it has a stack overflow that causes it to crash.

• starting and stopping hsqldb from unit tests

  I'm trying to create integration tests using hsqldb in an in memory mode. At the moment, I have to start the hsqldb server from the command line before running the unit tests. I would like to be able to be able to control the hsqldb server from my integration tests. I can't seem to get this to all work out though from code. • ASP.NET MVC solution to a forms application?

  Hello, We're building a survey system and utilising ASP.NET MVC and wondered if anyone can offer suggestions on the architecture. Here's the problem we're trying to solve. Essentially an agency sends out several surveys every year. They're very structured and not like SurveyMonkey style of surveys - they're actually applications of feedback. Much like a Visa Application there are lots of things they need to do and sometimes it takes them 2-3 weeks to fill it out. They can upload files (proofs of purchase etc - PDF/JPG) and also multiple "items". Eg. Say for instance they've worked for McDonalds, there could be 20 different franchises, they build a list of locations they've worked. 3 weeks later there could be another 3 new locations and 2 may have closed down. So we need to ensure the forms are able to handle those situations. The forms themselves (markup and data) change every year - I should mention that this for a taxation/finance/budget system. We were thinking of using MVC, using Xml to store the data (temporarily), XSD to validate the data, XSL to transform the data to presentable markup (for them to fill out) and then once they "Submit" an application it gets stored into the DB in relevant areas. When the user starts the application process, they can save the progress so far (we validate whatever they entred and ignore any they havent), save it as an Xml blob and store in the DB. When they're finally ready to submit it, then we do a full validation and upload the files and store them securely (it has their business proofs and accounting statements) and then run some workflows. What I'm really concerned about is how to manage changing forms versions (a year later). How are form/application systems written these days? We have 2 months to pull this off and about 30 forms to deliver. So 30xXML, 30xXSD, 30xXSL.

With the code I have, I get the warnings Possible unintended reference comparison; to get a value comparison, cast the left hand side to type 'string' Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong. I have explored storing data in an Isolated Storage txt file, and that worked, I am now trying Application Settings, and will finally try to download and store an xml file, as well as create and store user settings into an xml file. • ImageViews in a ListView not aligned vertically [Mono for Android]

  I'm very new to developing apps to android, so bear with me. Having said that, I'm trying to make a list with a image to the left and a title and description to the right of the image. The image is downloaded from the web in the background and then set in the UI as they complete. This all works. However, the images are not aligned properly and I simply cannot understand why. I'm thinking it has something to do with the layout defined in the xml file? I tried using android:layout_alignParentLeft="true" and android:layout_gravity="left" but that got me nowhere. Then I didn't know how to proceed, even after googling every way I could think of. I'm sorry if this is very basic, but I would really appreciate some help here.   So I am modifying the Cube live wallpaper example. I have a class that extends PreferenceActivity, and I added the Activity in my manifest file. I keep getting ActivityNotFoundExceptions. • Rest WebService error handling.

  Hi there, I am using RestWebservice for few basic operations , like creating/searching. The request xml looks something like this <customer> <name/> ..... </customer> For a successful operation I return the same customer XML with extra fields populated in it(eg. systemId etc which we blank in the request) . with Response.Status=2000 For an unsuccessful operation i return something like this with different error codes . e.g Response.Status = 422(Unprocessable entity) Response.Status= 500(Internal Server Error) and few others.. <errors> <error> An exception occurred while creating the customer</error> <error> blah argument is not valid.</error> </errors> Now i am not sure , whether this is the correct way of sending the errors to the client. Maybe it should be present in the header of the response. I will really appreciate any help. Thanks!

• JSP Document/JSPX: what determines how space/linebreaks are removed in the output?

  I've got a "JSP Document" ("JSP in XML") nicely formatted and when the webpage is generated and sent to the user, some linebreaks are removed. Now the really weird part: apparently the "main" .jsp always gets all its linebreak removed but for any subsequent .jsp included from the main .jsp, linebreaks seems to be randomly removed (some are there, others aren't). For example, if I'm looking at the webpage served from Firefox and ask to "view source", I get to see what is generated. So, what determines when/how linebreaks are kept/removed? This is just an example I made up... Can you force a .jsp to serve this: <body><div id="page"><div id="header"><div class="title">... or this: <body> <div id="page"> <div id="header"> <div class="title">... ? I take it that linebreaks are removed to save on bandwidth, but what if I want to keep them? And what if I want to keep the same XML indentation as in my .jsp file? Is this doable?

  I want to make dynamic web service invoker in JSF with CXF. But when I load this simple code I get error. This happens if the faces-initialization does not work at all - make sure that you properly include all configuration settings necessary for a basic faces application and that all the necessary libs are included. If you did that and find nothing, the mistake might be due to the fact that you use some special web-containers which do not support registering context-listeners via TLD files and a context listener is not setup in your web.xml. A typical config looks like this; org.apache.myfaces.webapp.StartupServletContextListener Caused by: java.lang.IllegalStateException - No Factories configured for this Application. • IIS7 FTP Setup - An error occured during the authentication process. 530 End Login failed

  I'm having a problem very similar to IIS 7.5 FTP IIS Manager Users Login Fail (530) on Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard. I have created an FTP site and IIS Manager user but am having trouble logging in. I could really do with getting this working with the IIS Manager user rather than by creating a new system user since I'm fairly restricted with those accounts. Here is the output when connecting locally through command prompt: C:\Windows\system32>ftp localhost Connected to MYSERVER. 220 Microsoft FTP Service User (MYSERVER:(none)): MyFtpLogin 331 Password required for MyFtpLogin. Password: *** 530-User cannot log in. Win32 error: Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password. Error details: An error occured during the authentication process. 530 End Login failed. I have followed the guide to configure ftp with iis manager authentication in iis 7 and Adding FTP Publishing to a Web Site in IIS 7 Things I have done and checked: The FTP Service is installed (along with FTP Extensibility). Trying to connect via FTP though either through the browser or FileZilla etc... gives me: Status: Resolving address of www.mydomain.co.uk Status: Connecting to 123.456.12.123:21... • viewstack causing error 1065 variable not defined issue?

  I've got an flex application where I have a left side TREE control and a viewstack on the right and when someone selects the tree it loads the named viewstack based on the hidden node value of the XML of the tree. But it's throwing a error 1065 variable not defined on a viewstack which worked on the last browser refresh/reload. It's not related to a particular viewstack from what I can tell it just seems to throw the error on certain render events.   It seems like whenever I try to add a UL inside of the containers when using jQuery UI - Tabs, it breaks the javascript. Is there a way I can use a UL inside of these containers that I am missing? • JSP Document/JSPX: what determines how tabs/space/linebreaks are removed in the output?

  I've got a "JSP Document" ("JSP in XML") nicely formatted and when the webpage is generated and sent to the user, some linebreaks are removed. Now the really weird part: apparently the "main" .jsp always gets all its linebreak removed but for any subsequent .jsp included from the main .jsp, linebreaks seems to be randomly removed (some are there, others aren't). For example, if I'm looking at the webpage served from Firefox and ask to "view source", I get to see what is generated. So, what determines when/how linebreaks are kept/removed? This is just an example I made up... Can you force a .jsp to serve this: <body><div id="page"><div id="header"><div class="title">... or this: <body> <div id="page"> <div id="header"> <div class="title">... ? I take it that linebreaks are removed to save on bandwidth, but what if I want to keep them? And what if I want to keep the same XML indentation as in my .jsp file? Is this doable? EDIT Following skaffman's advice, I took a look at the generated .java files and the "main" one doesn't have lots of out.write but not a single one writing tabs nor newlines. Contrary to that file, all the ones that I'm including from that main .jsp have lots of lines like: out.write("\t...\n"); So I guess my question stays exactly the same: what determines how tabs/space/linebreaks are included/removed in the output?

• Getting data from array of DataSet objects returned from web service

  I have a web service that I want to access when it is added as a web reference to my C# project. A particular method in the web service takes a SQL query string and returns the results of the query as a custom type. When I add the web service reference, the method shows up as returning DataSet[] instead of the custom type. This is fine provided I can still somehow access the data returned from the query within those DataSet objects. I ran a particular query that should return 6 rows; I got back a DataSet[] array with 6 elements. However, when I iterate over those DataSet objects, none of them has any tables (via the Tables property on the DataSet). What gives? Where is my data? The web service is tested and works when I use it as a data source in a Report Builder 2.0 report. I am able to send an XML SOAP query to the web service and get back XML results containing my data.

• Multicore solr on Ubuntu 10.04 working for anyone?

  Following instructions from the two sites below, I've installed tomcat6 and solr 1.4 http://gist.github.com/204638 https://wiki.fourkitchens.com/display/TECH/Solr+1.4+on+Ubuntu+9.10+and+CentOS+5 I have successfully got it up and running on a server running 9.04 with multicore support, but on the 10.04 I can't seem to get it to work. • Glassfish: Defining Custom JNDI Names for Session Beans

  Background: Want to use GF3 in development, where as actual SIT, UAT, and production is using WAS. Problem: With the remote session beans everything is good to go, as GF3 gives a non-standard JNDI name, which is same as what WAS suggests, i.e. an absolute class name. Now for the local session beans WAS use the same absolute class name but with the prefix, i.e. ejblocal:. Whereas GF3 doesn't give any non-standard JNDI name for local session beans. GF3 came up with only portable name, java:global/..I need to find a way so I can use the same names for both. I am using EJB 3.0, WAS 7.9, and Glassfish 3. Don't have any xml confiuration for ejbs. Using Spring to inject the bean in Struts2 actions. With remote interfaces both servers are okay and agreed on a single convention, but for locals they differ. Is there any solution for this? Or just sun-ejb-jar.xml will solve it? Thanks.

• How do you save images to a Blackberry device via HttpConnection?

  My script fetches xml via httpConnection and saves to persistent store. No problems there. Then I loop through the saved data to compose a list of image url's to fetch via queue. • Specific programming text editor for simple open/close editing

  I'm looking for very specific text editor: Closes on ESC, no project management or tabs Syntax highlighting - preferably with color themes (e.g. can apply different color themes without changing C# coloring definition) or, at least, can load/save themes; support for C/C#/XML/HTML/JavaScript/etc - common MS/.NET world - out of box Configurable keys, or: Shift-Tab shifts blocks XML/HTML auto-completion support - well, optional I use synplus plugin for Total Commander currently, but it has few drawbacks (e.g. crashes sometimes ;-), no auto-completion, etc). Basically I want fast Visual-Studio-like editor that I open, do edits, and then close using ESC. I remember I tried Notepad++, etc - most of them open files in tabs, don't close on ESC... - that is, behave like IDE. At least I've just downloaded Notepad++, it doesn't close on ESC even if I setup keybindings to do so. Autocompletion is optional (though it is to be simple as just tags completion), what I really look for is closing on ESC, not getting in the way with all the tabs and IDE-like, and good coloring. Plus shift-tab is must have for blocks manipulation. Update: any open-source one that I can easily tweak to close on ESC? ;-) Seems like ESC (and reasonable color highlighting) is the core requirement. I've just tried many editors - Programmer's Notepad, E, Crimson, etc - I can't set any of them to close on ESC. Any external tool to close selected program on ESC? ;-) UPDATE: Hm, found an awesome utility for my latest thought: http://www.autohotkey.com. Easy to setup to close any window on ESC (as well as many other tricks). Seems like the most tough requirements is gone - I can use ANY text editor ;-)
