  • Java UnknownHostException When and Why?

    I'm trying to post to a website from a Processing Sketch. (Processing is basically Java running in a fancy environment). I'm using this library : http://libraries.seltar.org/postToWeb/ but I don't know if that makes a difference. You can see from the stack trace below that this is just a wrapper for the Java standard library. Anyway, the important point is that the host "mysite.com" is up and running. I am seeing it from the browser. But when I try to post to it from Java I just get the UnknownHostException appearing. Given that the site is up. What else might this mean? The program is currently running inside the Processing environment.   • Axis2 issue with comment in WSDL

    I'm using an Axis2 client to access an external Webservice, whose WSDL starts with the following content: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><!--Created by TIBCO WSDL--><wsdl:definitions xmlns:wsdl=... My call to sendReceive crashes with the following error: com.ctc.wstx.exc.WstxUnexpectedCharException: Unexpected character 'C' (code 67) in prolog; expected '<' The 'C' is the first character on the comment in the WSDL. Without that comment everything works fine, but as far as my knowledge of basic XML dictates that comment is correct. My question would be: Is this a bug in Axis2 or is the accessed WSDL malformed? Is there any way to prevent Axis2 from crashing under these circumstances?

  • SOAP - Why do I need to query for the values for an update?

    I'm taking over a project and wanted to understand if this is common practice using SOAP. The process that is currently in place I have to query all the values before I do an update cause I need to pass back all the values that are not being updated. Does this sound right? Example Values: fname=phill lname=pafford address=123 main phone:222-555-1212 So if I just wanted to update the phone number I need to query for the record, get all the values and submit these values for an update. Example Update Values: fname=phill lname=pafford address=123 main phone:111-555-1212 I just want to know if this is common practice or should I change the functionality of this?

  • How should i organize authority code?

    I have users that fall into the following Not logged in Not Verified Verified Moderator Admin All code that only admin and moderators can access (like banning) is in ModeratorUser which inherits from verified which inherits from BaseUser. Some pages are accessible to all users such as public profiles. If a user is logged in he can leave a comment. To check this i use if (IsVerifiedUser). Now here is the problem. To avoid problems if a user is banned he is not recognized as a verified user. However in the rare case i need to know if he is verified i can use usertype & Verified. Should i not be doing this? I have a bunch of code in my VerifiedUser class and find i am moving tons of it to BaseUser. Is this something i help because a not logged in user can access the page? Should i handle the ban user in a different way and allow IsVerifiedUser to be true even if the user is banned?

  • Blackberry app stuck trying to access a server.

    Hi, I've built a ASP.NET webservice and I'm trying to access it from a Blackberry. I've been testing it out with multiple devices and the simulator and it works fine, but there's just the one Blackberry 9000 (It's not the model, I've tried it out with another Blackberry 9000), and it's stuck waiting for a response from the server.   • Characters in usernames that cause trouble

    I am testing out security and reliability issues on my site. I have made \n and \r illegal. I created a user with null in the name which caused my PM system to not message the user. However \b worked and \t didnt allow copy/paste to work correctly. The browser (firefox which i am testing with) copied the tab as a single space causing the name not to be the same thus not recognizing the username. Since i cant copy paste easily i'll probably disallow it. \f works as well although i do see a symbol in the title but nowhere else because of the \f. What else should i try? It appears 0-31 127-159 (i dont understand this range) are illegal. What characters in legal range might i want to disallow? I heard there was a 0 width character space. That may be something i want to disallow? What else is there?

    I have a site that physically has this directory structure. -public_html --conf > contains file conf.php -SiteFiles -LiveSite > contains file ConfLive.php Directory public_html/conf/ contains a file called conf.php this file contains the following include include_once('/home/mydir/SiteFiles/LiveSite/conf/ConfLive.iphp'); I want to copy this application to test PC to test it. Test PC uses XAMPP Apache. "Root" directory on the test machine is: C:\xampp\htdocs\ My questions: 1. Where is logical path "/home/mydir/" defined? 2. What steps should I take to get this to work on my test machine preferably by server configuration and not changing application. Thanks.     I am trying to build an Iphone App client for our CRM solution so our sales people would be able to access the information available in our CRM through an Iphone App. I am trying to find out what is the recommended approach to architect the application when it comes to the database. I am not sure where should the data reside, should I save a subset of the data on the iPhone, or should I just rely on webservices and pull the information I need from the database whenever I need it.   • generic async loading method for page web scripts?

    The google analytics code went to an async load model some time back. I've noticed that a lot of the other scripts I use on many sites are causing slow load times - specifically the addthis script and the facebook like button. I'm noticing that the slow load times of these scripts is causing the google bot to calc my page loadtimes as being much slower than previously. I'd like to know if there is a standard/generic way of causing these scripts to load async as well, or perhaps a pointer to someone who has done the work for this already. Seems this would be a popular thing to do, but not much luck searching around.

    I have written a simple forum in PHP using PostgreSQL. The forum consists of a number of subforums (or categories, if you like) that contain topics. I have a table that stores when was the last time a user visited a topic. It's something like this: user_id, topic_id, timestamp. I can easily determine what topics should be marked as unread by comparing the timestamp of the last topic reply with the timestamp of the last user visit. My question is: how do I efficiently determine what subforums (categories) should be marked as unread? All I've come up with is this: every time a user visits a topic, update the visit timestamp and check if all the topics from the current subforum are read or unread. If they are all read, mark the subforum as read for the user. Else, mark it as unread. But I think there must be another way. Thank you in advance.

    Hello, I have a dictionary I'm passing to a View. I want to be able to pass the values of that dictionary back to a Controller action from this same View. Is there anyway this can be accomplished without using a form? The situation is that I need to be able to pass these back to a controller action that is called when a user clicks an ActionLink from the View, and in my experience an ActionLink cannot be used to submit a values of a form, i.e. I've only been able to submit values of a form using the form's submit button. Unless there's a way to use an ActionLink to submit values in a form.

  • Restoring web session in struts2

    Hi, I have a classical scenario of a website and payment gateway integration, where the request for payment is sent to payment processor, and the payment processor calls back my application once it's done with some parameters I passed to it in the original request. Among parameters, we pass jsessionid and we expect that when the remote server makes request to our server (via customer browser redirect to our server) that the session will be the same as the session used to send the initial payment request. This does not happen, we have two different sessions, although the payment processor includes our original jsessionid in the request to us (https://blabla/?jsessionid=something). How should we go about recreating a session in struts2, in the only thing that connects the 'OLD' and 'NEW' session is the jsessionid in the request URL? Any ideas? Is this possible at all or is the 'OLD' session data deleted when the user moves away from our server onto a completely different domain of a payment processor with their data-entry form? This would explain our innability to recreate the session. Thanks a lot for your replies.

  • References not shown in visual studio web site "project"

    Hi, I have an ASP.NET 3.5 website project, where I have added a few assemblies. When I look in the bin folder in visual studio there the references are not shown, but if I go to the references in the property pages for the website they are shown as GAC. Shouldn't dll's in GAC be shown under references for a website project in visual studio?
