    I'm designing a web application. I was wondering if it was feasible to design a php front end (using some php framework e.g. CakePHP), which stores and retrieves data to display to the user. Then develop a java backend which listens to the database for changes, and depending on what was changed, performs some actions and updates the database. Any thoughts on this type of implementation would be appreciated.

  • Better alternative for PipedReader/PipedWriter?

    I need to have a buffered char stream, into which I write in one thread and from which I read in another thread. Right now I'm using PipedReader and PipedWriter for it, but those classes cause a performance problem: PipedReader does a wait(1000) when its internal buffer is empty, which causes my application to lag visibly. Would there be some library which does the same thing as PipedReader/PipedWriter, but with better performance? Or will I have to implement my own wheels?

The basic idea would be to make a class in c++ class b { virtual void method1(); virtual void method2(); } and 'somehow' inherit it in python like class c(b): def method1: #do something def method2: #do something I need to be able to modify the gui from python( add buttons to some widgets made in c++ with qt ). Basicaly something similiar to (gedit, blender, etc) plugin architecture with qt

    I'm using global constants, like this: /project /application bootstrap.php /public index.php index.php defines PUBLIC_PATH and APPLICATION_PATH calls APPLICATION_PATH . bootstrap.php bootstrap.php defines LIBRARY_PATH, MODULES_PATH, TEMP_PATH, CONFIG_PATH, ... does real work Also i want to ask if there is better way to do this?

Reason is that it needs to be started VERY early during boot, at a point when there is no network connection yet, also it must not wait for any network connectivity.   • Windows Application Data Directory

    Not completely a programming question, but its close enough so here goes: In Mac OS I'll put user-specific files for my app in ~/Library/Application Data/{MyApp}/ and in *nix I'll put them in ~/.{MyApp}/ - where should I put them for Windows? I'll be using Ruby's File.expand_path to get to this directory, so if there's a windows equivalent of ~ then that's fine. (Answers for Windows XP, Vista and 7 would be appreciated if they're not the same)
