  • gcc: Do I need -D_REENTRANT with pthreads?

    - by stefanB
On Linux (kernel 2.6.5) our build system calls gcc with -D_REENTRANT. Is this still required when using pthreads? How is it related to gcc -pthread option? I understand that I should use -pthread with pthreads, do I still need -D_REENTRANT? On a side note, is there any difference that you know off between the usage of REENTRANT between gcc 3.3.3 and gcc 4.x.x ? When I use -pthread gcc option I can see that _REENTRANT gets defined. Will omitting -D_REENTRANT from command line make any difference, for example could some objects be compiled without multithreaded support and then linked into binary that uses pthreads and will cause problems? I assume it should be ok just to use: g++ -pthread > echo | g++ -E -dM -c - > singlethreaded > echo | g++ -pthread -E -dM -c - > multithreaded > diff singlethreaded multithreaded 39a40 > #define _REENTRANT 1 We're compiling multiple static libraries and applications that link with the static libraries, both libraries and application use pthreads. I believe it was required at some stage in the past but want to know if it is still required. Googling hasn't returned any recent information mentioning -D_REENTRANT with pthreads. Could you point me to links or references discussing the use in recent version of kernel/gcc/pthread? Clarification: At the moment we're using -D_REENTRANT and -lpthread, I assume I can replace them with just g++ -pthread, looking at man gcc it sets the flags for both preprocessor and linker. Any thoughts?

  • Problem trying to install PyCurl on Mac Snow Leopard

    - by Ldn
Hi, My app needs to use PyCurl, so i tried to install it on my Mac but i found a lot of problems and error :( Requirement: First of all i've to say that the version of Python working on my Mac is 32 bit based, because i need to use WxPython, that needs 32 bit Python. For doing this i used: defaults write com.apple.versioner.python Prefer-32-Bit -bool yes To install PyCurl i used: sudo env ARCHFLAGS="-arch x86_64" easy_install setuptools pycurl And the terminal returned: Best match: setuptools 0.6c11 Processing setuptools-0.6c11-py2.6.egg setuptools 0.6c11 is already the active version in easy-install.pth Installing easy_install script to /usr/local/bin Installing easy_install-2.6 script to /usr/local/bin Using /Library/Python/2.6/site-packages/setuptools-0.6c11-py2.6.egg Processing dependencies for setuptools Finished processing dependencies for setuptools Searching for pycurl Best match: pycurl 7.16.2.1 Processing pycurl-7.16.2.1-py2.6-macosx-10.6-universal.egg pycurl 7.16.2.1 is already the active version in easy-install.pth Using /Library/Python/2.6/site-packages/pycurl-7.16.2.1-py2.6-macosx-10.6-universal.egg Processing dependencies for pycurl Finished processing dependencies for pycurl so i thought that pycurl was correctly installed and working. But... But when i started my app, python return me an error: python /Users/lorenzodenobili/Desktop/Python/AGGIORNATORE_PY/Dropbox/wxPython/test.py Traceback (most recent call last): File "/Users/lorenzodenobili/Desktop/Python/AGGIORNATORE_PY/Dropbox/wxPython/test.py", line 20, in <module> import pycurl File "build/bdist.macosx-10.6-universal/egg/pycurl.py", line 7, in <module> File "build/bdist.macosx-10.6-universal/egg/pycurl.py", line 6, in __bootstrap__ ImportError: dlopen(/Users/lorenzodenobili/.python-eggs/pycurl-7.16.2.1-py2.6-macosx-10.6-universal.egg-tmp/pycurl.so, 2): no suitable image found. I really don't have any idea on how to solve this error, so i really need your help! thank you so much!!

  • SubSonic missing stored procedures in StoredProcedures.cs when generated with SubCommander sonic.exe

    - by Mark
We have been using SubSonic to generate our DAL with a lot of success on VS2005 and SubSonic Tools 2.0.3. SubSonic Tools do not work on VS2008 (as far as we can work out) so we have tried to use SubCommander\sonic.exe and are now hitting some problems. When we regenerate the project using SubCommander\sonic.exe and try to compile we get some errors reporting missing members (which should have been automatically generated based on the stored procedures we have). On closer inspection it looks like my StoredProcedures.cs file is missing some (not all) automatically generated methods for my classes. As an example, I have 2 procs: [dbo]._ClassA_Func1 [dbo]._ClassA_Func2 Only one of these is being generated in the StoredProcedures.cs file. These methods generate fine using the SubSonic Tools plugin. We have tried now with versions 2.1 and 2.2 of SubSonic with the same issue. We are still on .NET 2.0 so cannot use SubSonic 3.0. I have checked the permissions of both procs using fn_my_permissions and they seem identical. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can check? Thanks -- Mark

  • Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket

    - by Martin
I was trying to tune the performance of a running mysql-server by running this command: mysqld_safe --key_buffer_size=64M --table_cache=256 --sort_buffer_size=4M --read_buffer_size=1M & After this i'm unable to connect mysql from the server where mysql is running. I get this error: ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (111) However, luckily i can still connect to mysql remotely. So all my webservers still have access to mysql and are running without any problems. Because of this though i don't want to try to restart the mysql server since that will probably fuck everything up. Now i know that mysqld_safe is starting the mysql-server, and since the mysql server was already running i guess it's some kind of problem with two mysql servers running and listening to the same port. Is there some way to solve this problem without restarting the initial mysql server? UPDATE: This is what ps xa | grep "mysql" says: 11672 ? S 0:00 /bin/sh /usr/bin/mysqld_safe 11780 ? Sl 175:04 /usr/sbin/mysqld --basedir=/usr --datadir=/var/lib/mysql --user=mysql --pid-file=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.pid --socket=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock --port=3306 11781 ? • vbCrLf in Multiline TextBox shows up only when .Trim() is called

    - by Brandon Montgomery
I have an ASP TextBox with TextMode set to MultiLine. I'm having problems with preserving the vbCrLf characters when a user tries to put line breaks into the text. When a button on the page is pressed, I'm taking the text from the control, trimming it using String.Trim, and assigning that value to a String property on an object (which, in turn assigns it to a private internal String variable on the object). The object then takes the value from the private internal variable and throws it into the database using a stored procedure call (the SP parameter it is put into is an nvarchar(4000)). ASPX Page: <asp:UpdatePanel ID="UpdatePanel2" runat="server" RenderMode="Inline" UpdateMode="Conditional" ChildrenAsTriggers="true"> <ContentTemplate> <!-- some other controls and things --> <asp:TextBox TextMode="MultiLine" runat="server" ID="txtComments" Width="100%" Height="60px" CssClass="TDTextArea" Style="border: 0px;" MaxLength="2000" /> <!-- some other controls and things --> </ContentTemplate> </asp:UpdatePanel> code behind: ProjectRequest.StatusComments = txtComments.Text.Trim object property: Protected mStatusComments As String = String.Empty Property StatusComments() As String Get Return mStatusComments.Trim End Get Set(ByVal Value As String) mStatusComments = Value End Set End Property stored proc call: Common.RunSP(mDBConnStr, "ProjectStatusUpdate", _ Common.MP("@UID", SqlDbType.NVarChar, 40, mUID), _ Common.MP("@ProjID", SqlDbType.VarChar, 40, mID), _ Common.MP("@StatusID", SqlDbType.Int, 8, mStatusID), _ Common.MP("@Comments", SqlDbType.NVarChar, 4000, mStatusComments), _ Common.MP("@PCTComp", SqlDbType.Int, 4, 0), _ Common.MP("@Type", Common.TDSqlDbType.TinyInt, 1, EntryType)) Here's the strangest part. When I debug the code, if I type "test test" (without the quotes) into the comments text box, then click the save button and use the immediate window to view the variable values as I step through, here is what I get: ?txtComments.Text "test test" ?txtComments.Text.Trim "test test" ?txtComments.Text(4) " "c ?txtComments.Text.Trim()(4) " "c Anyone have a clue as to what's going on here?

  • People not respecting good practices at workplace

    - by VexXtreme
Hi There are some major issues in my company regarding practices, procedures and methodologies. First of all, we're a small firm and there are only 3-4 developers, one of which is our boss who isn't really a programmer, he just chimes in now and then and tries to do code some simple things. The biggest problems are: Major cowboy coding and lack of methodologies. I've tried explaining to everyone the benefits of TDD and unit testing, but I only got weird looks as if I'm talking nonsense. Even the boss gave me the reaction along the lines of "why do we need that? it's just unnecessary overhead and a waste of time". Nobody uses design patterns. I have to tell people not to write business logic in code behind, I have to remind them not to hardcode concrete implementations and dependencies into classes and cetera. I often feel like a nazi because of this and people think I'm enforcing unnecessary policies and use of design patterns. The biggest problem of all is that people don't even respect common sense security policies. I've noticed that college students who work on tech support use our continuous integration and source control server as a dump to store their music, videos, series they download from torrents and so on. You can imagine the horror when I realized that most of the partition reserved for source control backups was used by entire seasons of TV series and movies. Our development server isn't even connected to an UPS and surge protection. It's just plugged straight into the wall outlet. I asked the boss to buy surge protection, but he said it's unnecessary. All in all, I like working here because the atmosphere is very relaxed, money is good and we're all like a family (so don't advise me to quit), but I simply don't know how to explain to people that they need to stick to some standards and good practices in IT industry and that they can't behave so irresponsibly. Thanks for the advice

  • Java Swingworker: Not as encapsulated class

    - by Thomas Matthews
    I'm having problems passing information, updating progress and indicating "done" with a SwingWorker class that is not an encapsulated class. I have a simple class that processes files and directories on a hard drive. The user clicks on the Start button and that launches an instance of the SwingWorker. I would like to print the names of the files that are processed on the JTextArea in the Event Driven Thread from the SwingWorker as update a progress bar. All the examples on the web are for an nested class, and the nested class accesses variables in the outer class (such as the done method). I would also like to signal the Event Driven Thread that the SwingWorker is finished so the EDT can perform actions such as enabling the Start button (and clearing fields). Here are my questions: 1. How does the SwingWorker class put text into the JTextArea of the Event Driven Thread and update a progress bar? How does the EDT determine when the {external} SwingWorker thread is finished? {I don't want the SwingWorker as a nested class because there is a lot of code (and processing) done.}

  • C# IsolatedStorage Not Working

    - by Don
I am building a C# .NET (VS2010) IE8 add-on application but am having some trouble saving data using IsolatedStorage. No exceptions occur but, after writing the data, when I try to read the contents back it is blank, and I can find no evidence that it actually saved. Could anyone point out any problems with the following code please that would explain why it doesn't work? //Write IsolatedStorageFile app_isoStore = IsolatedStorageFile.GetStore( IsolatedStorageScope.User | IsolatedStorageScope.Assembly, null, null); IsolatedStorageFileStream isoStream = new IsolatedStorageFileStream( "app_started.txt", FileMode.OpenOrCreate, FileAccess.Write, app_isoStore); StreamWriter iswriter = new StreamWriter(isoStream); iswriter.WriteLine("Run"); iswriter.Close(); //app_isoStore.Dispose(); app_isoStore.Close(); //Read IsolatedStorageFile app_isoStoreCheck = IsolatedStorageFile.GetStore( IsolatedStorageScope.User | IsolatedStorageScope.Assembly, null, null); IsolatedStorageFileStream isoReadStream = new IsolatedStorageFileStream( "app_started.txt", FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read, app_isoStoreCheck); StreamReader isreader = new StreamReader(isoReadStream); string rdata = isreader.ReadToEnd(); isreader.Close(); //app_isoStoreCheck.Dispose(); app_isoStoreCheck.Close(); Should I be using: IsolatedStorageFile.GetStore(IsolatedStorageScope.User| IsolatedStorageScope.Domain|IsolatedStorageScope.Assembly, null, null) instead of: IsolatedStorageFile.GetStore(IsolatedStorageScope.User| IsolatedStorageScope.Assembly, null, null) What's the difference between the two GetStore examples above please?

  • Still about SSD potentials...write and read speed

    - by Macroideal
HI Gurus, I have been working on SSD(solid state disk) for several months..Problems and Questions hit my head unexpectedly..Coz i am a virgin in ssd... Esp these days i was testing the write-read speed of ssd, which I was always caring.... however result turned out not good as I expected, or even worse Three kinds of read-write were implemented in my test 1. read and write directly from and into ssd, with openning ssd as a whole device. in windows: _open("\\:g", ***).. It can be very tricky and hairy that you'd write a data with size of folds of 512, at the disk position of folds of 512bytes... So, If you wanto write just a byte or 4 bytes, you'v to write at least a whole sector one time. 2. Read and write data from and into files located in SSD... 3. Read and Write data from and into files in mechanical Disk I compared the pratices below...I found ssd sucks...the ssd performs worse than mechanical disk... so i am wondering where i can get the potential performance of ssd, since ssd is said to a substitute for mechanical disk in the future.. Nevertheless, I test ssd with a pro-hard-disk tools..ssd is like twice speedier than mechanical disk. So, why? Thanx very much...If you know tips of ssd...follow me

  • Xcode Link Frameworks "Relative to Current SDK" Doesn't Work When Mixing Mac Framework and iPhone St

    - by bl4th3rsk1t3
I have a framework of code I maintain. It's got mac and iphone objective-c code. And some of it is shared. I'm not having any problems with code. It's a problem with Xcode. Let's just call my framework "AwesomeKit" for this problem. The first thing I did was create an xcode Framework project called "AwesomeKit". Add source files to it, link against the common mac frameworks: foundation, cocoa, carbon, etc. It compiles fine. Then, add a new "static library" target, let's call it "AwesomeKit-iPhone" and set the base SDK in the build settings to iphone device 3.1.3. The problem comes when I try to add "Existing Frameworks" to the AweseomKit-iPhone target. -First change the current build target to AwesomeKit-iPhone. -Right click on any group and select "Add Existing Frameworks..." -Choose UIKit.framework UIKit will immediately be highlighted red, as if it's missing. It is indeed missing because Xcode uses the "Relative SDK" setting from the "Mac OS 10.6" SDK. When it should be using it relative to the current target's base sdk iphone device 3.1.3. What the heck? Has anyone experienced this? This is really annoying.

  • Using NSNumberFormatter to get a decimal value from an international currency string

    - by Duncan A
It seems that the NSNumberFormatter can't parse Euro (and probably other) currency strings into a numerical type. Can someone please prove me wrong. I'm attempting to use the following to get a numeric amount from a currency string: NSNumberFormatter *currencyFormatter = [[[NSNumberFormatter alloc] init] autorelease]; [currencyFormatter setNumberStyle:NSNumberFormatterCurrencyStyle]; NSNumber *currencyNumber = [currencyFormatter numberFromString:currencyString]; This works fine for UK and US currency amounts. It even deals with $ and £ and thousands separators with no problems. However, when I use it with euro currency amounts (with the Region Format set to France or Germany in the settings app) it returns an empty string. All of the following strings fail: 12,34 € 12,34 12.345,67 € 12.345,67 It's worth noting that these strings match exactly what comes out of the NSNumberFormatter's stringFromNumber method when using the corresponding locale. Setting the Region Format to France in the settings app, then setting currencyNumber to 12.34 in the following code, results in currencyString being set to '12,34 €' : NSNumberFormatter *currencyFormatter = [[[NSNumberFormatter alloc] init] autorelease]; [currencyFormatter setNumberStyle:NSNumberFormatterCurrencyStyle]; NSString *currencyString = [currencyFormatter stringFromNumber:currencyNumber]; It would obviously be fairly easy to hack around this problem specifically for the Euro but I'm hoping to sell this app in as many countries as possible and I'm thinking that a similar situation is bound to occur with other locales. Does anyone have an answer? TIA, Duncan

  • Reading binary data from serial port using Dejan TComport Delphi component

    - by johnma
Apologies for this question but I am a bit of a noob with Delphi. I am using Dejan TComport component to get data from a serial port. A box of equipment connected to the port sends about 100 bytes of binary data to the serial port. What I want to do is extract the bytes as numerical values into an array so that I can perform calculations on them. TComport has a method Read(buffer,Count) which reads DATA from input buffer. function Read(var Buffer; Count: Integer): Integer; The help says the Buffer variable must be large enough to hold Count bytes but does not provide any example of how to use this function. I can see that the Count variable holds the number of bytes received but I can't find a way to access the bytes in Buffer. TComport also has a methord Readstr which reads data from input buffer into a STRING variable. function ReadStr(var Str: String; Count: Integer): Integer; Again the Count variable shows the number of bytes received and I can use Memo1.Text:=str to display some information but obviously Memo1 has problems displaying the control characters. I have tried various ways to try and extract the byte data from Str but so far without success. I am sure it must be easy. Here's hoping.

  • Rendering MXML component only after actionscript is finished

    - by basicblock
In my mxml file, I'm doing some calculations in the script tag, and binding them to a custom component. <fx:Script> <![CDATA[ [Bindable] public var calc1:Number; [Bindable] public var calc2:Number; private function init():void { calc1 = //calculation; calc2 = //calculation; } ]]> </fx:Script> <mycomp:Ball compfield1="{calc1}" compfield2="{calc2}"/> The problem is that the mxml component is being created before the actionscript is run. So when the component is created, it actually doesn't get calc1 and calc2 and it fails from that point. I know that binding happens after that, but the component and its functions have already started and have run with the null or 0 initial values. My solution was to create the component also in actionscript right after calc1 and calc2 have been created. This way I get to control precisely when it's created <fx:Script> <![CDATA[ [Bindable] public var calc1:Number; [Bindable] public var calc2:Number; private function init():void { calc1 = //calculation; calc2 = //calculation; var Ball:Ball = new Ball(calc1, calc2); } ]]> </fx:Script> but this is creating all kinds of other problems due to the way I've set up the component. Is there a way I can still use mxml to create the component, yet control that it the <myComp:Ball> gets created only after init() is run and calc1 calc2 evaluated?

  • MKMapView loading all annotation views at once (including those that are outside the current rect)

    - by jmans
Has anyone else run into this problem? Here's the code: - (MKAnnotationView *)mapView:(MKMapView *)mapView viewForAnnotation:(WWMapAnnotation *)annotation { // Only return an Annotation view for the placemarks. Ignore for the current location--the iPhone SDK will place a blue ball there. NSLog(@"Request for annotation view"); if ([annotation isKindOfClass:[WWMapAnnotation class]]){ MKPinAnnotationView *browse_map_annot_view = (MKPinAnnotationView *)[mapView dequeueReusableAnnotationViewWithIdentifier:@"BrowseMapAnnot"]; if (!browse_map_annot_view) { browse_map_annot_view = [[[MKPinAnnotationView alloc] initWithAnnotation:annotation reuseIdentifier:@"BrowseMapAnnot"] autorelease]; NSLog(@"Creating new annotation view"); } else { NSLog(@"Recycling annotation view"); browse_map_annot_view.annotation = annotation; } ... As soon as the view is displayed, I get 2009-08-05 13:12:03.332 xxx[24308:20b] Request for annotation view 2009-08-05 13:12:03.333 xxx[24308:20b] Creating new annotation view 2009-08-05 13:12:03.333 xxx[24308:20b] Request for annotation view 2009-08-05 13:12:03.333 xxx[24308:20b] Creating new annotation view and on and on, for every annotation (~60) I've added. The map (correctly) only displays the two annotations in the current rect. I am setting the region in viewDidLoad: if (center_point.latitude == 0) { center_point.latitude = 35.785098; center_point.longitude = -78.669899; } if (map_span.latitudeDelta == 0) { map_span.latitudeDelta = .001; map_span.longitudeDelta = .001; } map_region.center = center_point; map_region.span = map_span; NSLog(@"Setting initial map center and region"); [browse_map_view setRegion:map_region animated:NO]; The log entry for the region being set is printed to the console before any annotation views are requested. The problem here is that since all of the annotations are being requested at once, [mapView dequeueReusableAnnotationViewWithIdentifier] does nothing, since there are unique MKAnnotationViews for every annotation on the map. This is leading to memory problems for me. One possible issue is that these annotations are clustered in a pretty small space (~1 mile radius). Although the map is zoomed in pretty tight in viewDidLoad (latitude and longitude delta .001), it still loads all of the annotation views at once. Thanks...

  • Good DB Migrations for CakePHP?

    - by Martin Westin
Hi, I have been trying a few migration scripts for CakePHP but I ran into problems with all of the in some form or another. Please advice me on a migration option for Cake that you use live and know works. I'd like the following "features": -Support CakePHP 1.2(e.g. CakeDCs migrations will only be an option when 1.3 is stable and my app migrated to the new codebase) -Support for (or at least not halt on) Models with a different database config. -Support Models in sub-folders of app/models -Support Models in plugins -Support tables that do not conform to Cake conventions (I have a few special tables that do not have a single primary key field and need to keep them) -Plays well with automated deployment via Capistrano and Git. I do not need rails-style versioned files a git versioned schema file that is compared live to the existing schema will do. That is: I like the SchemaShell in Cake apart from it not being compatible with most of my requirements above. I have looked at and tested: CakePHP Schema Shell http://book.cakephp.org/view/734/Schema-management-and-migrations CakeDC migrations http://cakedc.com/downloads/view/cakephp_migrations_plugin YAML migrations http://github.com/georgious/cakephp-yaml-migrations-and-fixtures joelmoss migrations http://code.google.com/p/cakephp-migrations

I have a .NET Wndows application in C#. It's a simple Windows application that is using the MySql 5.1 database community edition. I've downloaded the MySql ODBC driver and have created a dsn to my database on my local machine. On my application, I can perform get type queries without problems, but when I execute a given insert statement (not that I've tried doing any others), I get the following error: {"ERROR [HY001] [MySQL][ODBC 5.1 Driver][mysqld-5.0.27-community-nt]Memory allocation error"} I'm running on a Windows XP machine. My machine has 1 GB of memory. Anyone have any ideas? • DynamicJasper font encoding problem

    - by user266956
Hello All, I'm new to DynamicJasper, I think it's a great project but for a few days I cannot run simple example which will display polish fonts properly. Details sections is generated without any problems automatically displaying polish letters like 'c z z a' etc. where title and column headers contain strange letters instead. I was trying to do the following, but it doesn't work: FastReportBuilder drb = new FastReportBuilder(); Font font = new Font(25, "SansSerif", "Helvetica", Font.PDF_ENCODING_CP1257_Baltic, true); Style titleStyle = new StyleBuilder(false).setFont(font).build(); DynamicReport dr = drb.addColumn("State", "state", String.class.getName(),30) .addColumn("Branch", "branch", String.class.getName(),30) .addColumn("Product Line", "productLine", String.class.getName(),50) .addGroups(2) .setTitle("November 2008 Zrebie aczc!") .setTitleStyle(titleStyle) .setSubtitle("This report was generated at " + new Date()) .setPrintBackgroundOnOddRows(true) .setUseFullPageWidth(true) .build(); JRDataSource ds = new JRBeanCollectionDataSource(this.simples); JasperPrint jp = DynamicJasperHelper.generateJasperPrint(dr, new ClassicLayoutManager(), ds); JasperViewer.viewReport(jp); //finally display the report report Any help would be highly appreciated as dynamicjasper forums seems to be dead and constantly spammed. Thanks in advance! Kris

  • Any way to avoid creating a huge C# COM interface wrapper when only a few methods needed?

    - by Paul Accisano
Greetings all, I’m working on a C# program that requires being able to get the index of the hot item in Windows 7 Explorer’s new ItemsView control. Fortunately, Microsoft has provided a way to do this through UI Automation, by querying custom properties of the control. Unfortunately, the System.Windows.Automation namespace inexplicably does not seem to provide a way to query custom properties! This leaves me with the undesirable position of having to completely ditch the C# Automation namespace and use only the unmanaged COM version. One way to do it would be to put all the Automation code in a separate C++/CLI module and call it from my C# application. However, I would like to avoid this option if possible, as it adds more files to my project, and I’d have to worry about 32/64-bit problems and such. The other option is to make use of the ComImport attribute to declare the relevant interfaces and do everything through COM-interop. This is what I would like to do. However, the relevant interfaces, such as IUIAutomation and IUIAutomationElement, are FREAKING HUGE. They have hundreds of methods in total, and reference tons and tons of interfaces (which I assume I would have to also declare), almost all of which I will never ever use. I don’t think the UI Automation interfaces are declared in any Type Library either, so I can’t use TLBIMP. Is there any way I can avoid having to manually translate a bajillion method signatures into C# and instead only declare the ten or so methods I actually need? I see that C# 4.0 added a new “dynamic” type that is supposed to ease COM interop; is that at all relevant to my problem? Thanks

  • Implementation review for a MVC.NET app with custom membership

    - by mrjoltcola
I'd like to hear if anyone sees any problems with how I implemented the security in this Oracle based MVC.NET app, either security issues, concurrency issues or scalability issues. First, I implemented a CustomOracleMembershipProvider to handle the database interface to the membership store. I implemented a custom Principal named User which implements IPrincipal, and it has a hashtable of Roles. I also created a separate class named AuthCache which has a simple cache for User objects. Its purpose is simple to avoid return trips to the database, while decoupling the caching from either the web layer or the data layer. (So I can share the cache between MVC.NET, WCF, etc.) The MVC.NET stock MembershipService uses the CustomOracleMembershipProvider (configured in web.config), and both MembershipService and FormsService share access to the singleton AuthCache. My AccountController.LogOn() method: 1) Validates the user via the MembershipService.Validate() method, also loads the roles into the User.Roles container and then caches the User in AuthCache. 2) Signs the user into the Web context via FormsService.SignIn() which accesses the AuthCache (not the database) to get the User, sets HttpContext.Current.User to the cached User Principal. In global.asax.cs, Application_AuthenticateRequest() is implemented. It decrypts the FormsAuthenticationTicket, accesses the AuthCache by the ticket.Name (Username) and sets the Principal by setting Context.User = user from the AuthCache. So in short, all these classes share the AuthCache, and I have, for thread synchronization, a lock() in the cache store method. No lock in the read method. The custom membership provider doesn't know about the cache, the MembershipService doesn't know about any HttpContext (so could be used outside of a web app), and the FormsService doesn't use any custom methods besides accessing the AuthCache to set the Context.User for the initial login, so it isn't dependent on a specific membership provider. The main thing I see now is that the AuthCache will be sharing a User object if a user logs in from multiple sessions. So I may have to change the key from just UserId to something else (maybe using something in the FormsAuthenticationTicket for the key?).

  • Linq-to-sql Compiled Query returns object NOT belonging to submitted DataContext ?

    - by Vladimir Kojic
Compiled query: public static class Machines { public static readonly Func<OperationalDataContext, short, Machine> QueryMachineById = CompiledQuery.Compile((OperationalDataContext db, short machineID) => db.Machines.Where(m => m.MachineID == machineID).SingleOrDefault() ); public static Machine GetMachineById(IUnitOfWork unitOfWork, short id) { Machine machine; // Old code (working) //var machineRepository = unitOfWork.GetRepository<Machine>(); //machine = machineRepository.Find(m => m.MachineID == id).SingleOrDefault(); // New code (making problems) machine = QueryMachineById(unitOfWork.DataContext, id); return machine; } It looks like compiled query is returning result from another data context [TestMethod] public void GetMachinesTest() { using (var unitOfWork = IoC.Get<IUnitOfWork>()) { // Compile Query var machine = Machines.GetMachineById(unitOfWork, 3); } using (var unitOfWork = IoC.Get<IUnitOfWork>()) { var machineRepository = unitOfWork.GetRepository<Machine>(); // Get From Repository var machineFromRepository = machineRepository.Find(m => m.MachineID == 2).SingleOrDefault(); var machine = Machines.GetMachineById(unitOfWork, 2); VerifyHuskyHostMachine(machineFromRepository, 2, "Machine 2", "222222", "H400RS", "MachineIconB.xaml", false, true, LicenseType.Licensed, InterfaceType.HuskyHostV2, "10.0.97.2:8080", "10.0.97.2", 8080, "4.0"); VerifyHuskyHostMachine(machine, 2, "Machine 2", "222222", "H400RS", "MachineIconB.xaml", false, true, LicenseType.Licensed, InterfaceType.HuskyHostV2, "10.0.97.2:8080", "10.0.97.2", 8080, "4.0"); Assert.AreSame(machineFromRepository, machine); // FAIL } } If I run other (complex) unit tests I'm getting as expected: An attempt has been made to Attach or Add an entity that is not new, perhaps having been loaded from another DataContext. Another Important information is that this test is under TransactionScope! • Retrieving varbinary output from a query in sql server into classic ASP

    - by user303526
Hi, I'm trying to retrieve a varbinary output value from a query running on SQL Server 2005 into Classic ASP. The ASP execution just fails when it comes to part of code that is simply taking a varbinary output into a string. So I guess we gotta handle it some other way. Actually, I'm trying to set (sp_setapprole) and unset (sp_unsetapprole) application roles for a database connection. First I'd set the approle, then I'd run my required queries and finally unset the approle. During unsetting is when I need the cookie (varbinary) value in my ASP code so that I can create a query like 'exec sp_unsetapprole @cookie'. Well at this stage, I don't have the cookie (varbinary) value. The reason I'm doing this is I used to get 'sp_setapprole was not invoked correctly' error when trying to set app roles. I've disabled pooling by appending 'OLE DB Services = -2;Pooling=False' into my connection string. I know pooling helps performance wise but here I'm facing big problems. Please help me out to retrieve a varbinary value into an classic ASP file or suggest a way to set & unset app roles. Either way solutions are appreciated. Thanks, Nandagopal

  • -[CFString length]: message sent to deallocated instance 0x3881940 when i scroll to near the bottom

    - by James
Hey guys, i've got a problem debugging an iphone app that i'm attempting to write and it's got me stumped, bear with me, i'm a n00b to programming and might get some of the terminology wrong but i'll try to explain it as best as i can. The app gets an XML doc from the a web site, parses it into an array, and then displays it in a table view, i have the parser in a separate file. The ViewDidLoad in RootViewController sends it a url, the parser goes to work and then returns an NSMutableArray. When i run the app it works fine with small XML files (5 entries or so, and 1-3 sections), but when i use a larger one(20+ rows, over 12 sections) i get the error "-[CFString length]: message sent to deallocated instance 0x3881940" when i scroll near the bottom of the tableview, just as the last section title is about to come onto the viewable area on the screen to be precise. if i return a static string instead of the object in my array in this method it doesn't crash, but i can use NSLog to call the array and it returns the title no problems. - (NSString *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView titleForHeaderInSection:(NSInteger)indexPath { return [[returnedEvents objectAtIndex:indexPath ] objectAtIndex:0]; } The returnedEvents array isn't released until -(void) dealloc {} I have read a few other posts on here, and a few guides on debugging and as of yet am unable to find anything that was able to help me, i'd be more than happy to post some code up here and any more information, i'm just not sure where to start... Thanks in advance for anyone willing to have a go at helping me out.

  • C# Path Ellipsis without Win32 API call revisited

    - by casterle
    I was searching for a way to insert an ellipsis in a C# path, and found an answer here on stackoverflow: http://tinyurl.com/y6rmdfr Using the RTM versions of VS2010 and .Net 4.0, I was unable to get the suggested method to work. I searched the 'Net and found example code that uses the same method, but it failed in the same way. You can see the string I'm trying to shorten in my code below. After calling the MeasureText method, both the input string (OriginalName) and the output string (ellipsisedName) look like this: d:\abcd\efgh\ijkl\mnop\qrst\...\test.txt\0F\GHIJ\KLMN\OPQR\STIV\WXYZ\test.txt Two problems: 1) The resulting string is narfed (the path is truncated as expected, but is followed by what looks like a C-style terminating null and a chunk of the original path). 2) My original string is changed to be identical to the output string. Am I doing something wrong? namespace WindowsFormsApplication2 { public partial class Form1 : Form { public Form1() { InitializeComponent(); string OriginalPath = @"d:\abcd\efgh\ijkl\mnop\qrst\uvwx\yzAB\CDEF\GHIJ\KLMN\OPQR\STIV\WXYZ\test.txt"; string ellipsisedPath = OriginalPath; Size proposedSize = new Size(label1.Width, label1.Height); TextRenderer.MeasureText(ellipsisedPath, label1.Font, proposedSize, TextFormatFlags.ModifyString | TextFormatFlags.PathEllipsis); } } }

  • A bug in grpah while using google visualization API on IE

    - by gili
    Hi, i'm using google visulization API to build a line chart grapgh. it works fine on FF and Chrome but i'm having problems on IE7: the problem is that the scailing of the x-axis (string) and y-axis (integer) is all wrong. both axis have the same values for some reason, but naturally those valuse are wrong. my code is the following one: var data = new google.visualization.DataTable(); data.addColumn('string', 'Date'); data.addColumn('number', '??????? ???? ??????'); data.addColumn('number', '??????? ??????'); data.addColumn('number', '??????'); data.addColumn('number', '???????'); data.addColumn('number', '???????'); var n = userRightGuessArray.length; data.addRows(userRightGuessArray.length); data.setCell(0, 0, '?? ?????? ??'); data.setCell(0, 1, 0); data.setCell(0, 2, 0); data.setCell(0, 3, 0); data.setCell(0, 4, 0); data.setCell(0, 5, 0); for(var t = 1 ; t // Create and draw the visualization. var chart = new google.visualization.ImageLineChart(document.getElementById('line_div')); chart.draw(data, {width: 400,legend: 'top'/showValueLabels:false/}); thank you for your help, Gili
