  • CodePlex learns to talk to other services!

CodePlex is now able to talk to other services! For example, if you want CodePlex to tell Trello to update cards on your Trello board, it can do it. Or if you want CodePlex to notify your Campfire chat room when updates are pushed, it can do that too. To start off, we are going to be adding support for the following services: Campfire – Notify a Campfire chat room when commits occur HipChat – Notify a HipChat chat room when commits occur Trello – Add commit summaries to Trello cards by referencing those cards in commit messages Twitter – Notify your Twitter followers when updates are pushed to your project In addition, we will continue to support our existing integrations with Windows Azure – Continuously deploy to Windows Azure on pushes (For Git and Hg projects) AppHarbor – Continuously deploy to AppHarbor on pushes To set up these integrations for your project, navigate to the project settings page as a project coordinator, and click on the services section as seen below:   While we are starting with these six services, the infrastructure is now in place to allow us to quickly roll out new integrations. We would love to hear which services and integrations you would like to see most on our suggestions page. We realize that there are some services and URLs that only make sense for your project to send notifications to. To support this scenario, we plan to add generic web hooks in the near future. Have ideas on how to improve CodePlex? Please visit our suggestions page! Vote for existing ideas or submit a new one. As always you can reach out to the CodePlex team on Twitter @codeplex or reach me directly @Rick_Marron.

  • When to use each user research method

    - by user12277104
There are a lot of user research methods out there, but sometimes we get stuck in a rut, conducting all formative usability testing before coding, or running surveys to gather satisfaction data. I'll be the first to admit that it happens to me, but to get out of a rut, it just takes a minute to look at where I am in the design & development cycle, what kind(s) of data I need, and what methods are available to me. We need reminders, or refreshers, every once in a while. One tool I've found useful is a graphic organizer that I created many years ago. It's been through several revisions, as I've adapted it to the product cycles of the places I've worked, changed my mind about how to categorize it, and added methods that I've used or created over time. I shared a version of this table at the 2012 International UPA conference, and I was contacted by someone yesterday who wanted to use it in a university course on user-center design. I was flattered at the the thought, but embarrassed, because I was sure it needed updating -- that was a year ago, after all. But I opened it today, and really, there's not much I'd change -- sure, I could add some nuance regarding what types of formative testing, such as modality (remote, unmoderated remote, or in-person) or flavor of testing (RITE, RITE-Krug, comparative, performance), but I think it's pretty much ok as is. Click on the image below, to get the full-size PDF. And whether it's entirely "right" or "wrong" isn't the whole value of looking at these methods across the product lifecycle. The real value lies in the reminder that I have options. And what those options are change as the field changes, so while I don't expect this graphic to have an eternal shelf life, it's still ok a year after I last updated it. That said, if you find something missing or out of place, let me know :)

  • Configure Wireless Network Card

    - by Skizz
I recently upgraded the wireless network card in my Ubuntu PC from an 802.11g to an 802.11n. Now, it can't see my router. It doesn't appear in the list of networks that is displayed when you click on the NetworkManager icon in Gnome. Other networks are listed and I have connected to them (no password required!). I'm using the Windows driver through ndiswrapper and it can see the card. I tested the card in a Windows PC and everything worked. The router's log doesn't show any messages coming from the wireless card. What have I done wrong? If you need any more information, just leave a comment and I'll get add it to the question.

  • Steam app and age verification issue

    - by TronicZomB
I have OSX 10.9.4 with the Steam App (API v016 and package versions 1407966480) installed. When I would visit game pages that required age verification, my birthday would be filled in due to being logged in and I would just click OK to move past. Now the age verification shows up with January 1st, 2014 each time and it will not let me change the date. The drop down menus just show up blank. I have tried to log out of my computer, log out of Steam, restart Steam, restart my computer, and reinstall Steam. Nothing has worked and it continues to have this issue. When I visit the Steam website, the age verification drop downs work just fine. What is causing this issue? And/or how can I fix this issue?

  • What is the best type of c# timer to use with a Unity game that uses many timers simultaneously?

    - by Kyle Seidlitz
I am developing a stand-alone 3d game in Unity that will have anywhere from 1 to 200 timers running simultaneously. There will be a GameObject containing 1 timer. For this game timer durations will range from 5 minutes to 4 days. There will not be any countdown displays or any UI for the timers. Each object is a prefab, with all the necessary materials included. An attached script will handle the timer and all the necessary code to change the materials and make any sound effects. Once the timer is expired, the user will then click on the object again, and the object will be destroyed, and the user's inventory will be adjusted. If the user wants to save or end the game before all the timers are done, the start value of the still running timers is to be saved to an XML file such that when the game is started again, any still running timers will be checked to see if they have expired, where the object's materials will be changed appropriately. I am still trying to figure out what type of timer to use, and see also if there are any suggestions for saving and calculating times over several days. What class(es) of timers should I use? Are there any special issues I should look out for in terms of performance?

  • KDE: How can I select audio output device for mplayer?

    - by grimripper
I recently installed Kubuntu 13.10 64-bit, and I'm having a problem with selecting audio output device. In Phonon, when I select audio device preference order and press Apply, Amarok and Dragon will immediately switch to the preferred device. VLC and SMplayer are not affected. VLC has its own setting for selecting the output device, but SMplayer remains a problem. It always plays audio on internal audio, and I can't change output to HDMI. How can I select HDMI for SMplayer's audio output device? I don't know if it matters, but when I select HDMI audio in Phonon and click Test, the test sound plays on the internal audio output as well. In the hardware settings tab, the front left and front right test buttons play audio on HDMI. Also, volume up/down buttons affect HDMI volume when SMplayer is focused. This would make sense if I could get SMplayer to play audio over HDMI, but it would be better if the volume keys affected SMplayer's own volume, or the "mplayer2: audio stream" which appears in volume control while mplayer is playing. EDIT: I've recompiled mplayer with alsa support, and can now select the audio output device from SMplayer's settings. Didn't affect the issue with Phonon of course, but it's a suitable workaround.

  • Rotating a NetBeans Visual Library Widget

    - by Geertjan
Trying to create a widget which, when clicked, rotates slightly further on each subsequent click: Above, the bird where the mouse is visible has been clicked a few times and so has rotated a bit further on each click. The code isn't quite right yet and I'm hoping someone will take this code, try it out, and help with a nice solution! public class BirdScene extends Scene {     public BirdScene() {         addChild(new LayerWidget(this));         getActions().addAction(ActionFactory.createAcceptAction(new AcceptProvider() {             public ConnectorState isAcceptable(Widget widget, Point point, Transferable transferable) {                 Image dragImage = getImageFromTransferable(transferable);                 if (dragImage != null) {                     JComponent view = getView();                     Graphics2D g2 = (Graphics2D) view.getGraphics();                     Rectangle visRect = view.getVisibleRect();                     view.paintImmediately(visRect.x, visRect.y, visRect.width, visRect.height);                     g2.drawImage(dragImage,                             AffineTransform.getTranslateInstance(point.getLocation().getX(),                             point.getLocation().getY()),                             null);                     return ConnectorState.ACCEPT;                 } else {                     return ConnectorState.REJECT;                 }             }             public void accept(Widget widget, final Point point, Transferable transferable) {                 addChild(new BirdWidget(getScene(), getImageFromTransferable(transferable), point));             }         }));     }     private Image getImageFromTransferable(Transferable transferable) {         Object o = null;         try {             o = transferable.getTransferData(DataFlavor.imageFlavor);         } catch (IOException ex) {         } catch (UnsupportedFlavorException ex) {         }         return o instanceof Image ? (Image) o : null;     }     private class BirdWidget extends IconNodeWidget {         private int theta = 0;         public BirdWidget(Scene scene, Image imageFromTransferable, Point point) {             super(scene);             setImage(imageFromTransferable);             setPreferredLocation(point);             setCheckClipping(true);             getActions().addAction(ActionFactory.createMoveAction());             getActions().addAction(ActionFactory.createSelectAction(new SelectProvider() {                 public boolean isAimingAllowed(Widget widget, Point localLocation, boolean invertSelection) {                     return true;                 }                 public boolean isSelectionAllowed(Widget widget, Point localLocation, boolean invertSelection) {                     return true;                 }                 public void select(final Widget widget, Point localLocation, boolean invertSelection) {                     theta = (theta + 100) % 360;                     repaint();                     getScene().validate();                 }             }));         }         @Override         public void paintWidget() {             final Image image = getImageWidget().getImage();             Graphics2D g = getGraphics();             g.setRenderingHint(RenderingHints.KEY_ANTIALIASING, RenderingHints.VALUE_ANTIALIAS_ON);             Rectangle bounds = getClientArea();             AffineTransform newXform = g.getTransform();             int xRot = image.getWidth(null) / 2;             int yRot = image.getWidth(null) / 2;             newXform.rotate(theta * Math.PI / 180, xRot, yRot);             g.setTransform(newXform);             g.drawImage(image, bounds.x, bounds.y, null);         }     } } The problem relates to refreshing the scene after the rotation. But it would help if someone would just take the code above, add it to their own application, try it out, see the problem for yourself, and develop it a bit further!

  • What's the shortest way to post a cropped screenshot on the web?

    - by Borek
If I want to send someone a piece of my screen this is what I currently do: PrtScr or Alt+PrtScr Open Paint.NET Paste the screen shot Make a selection Crop image to selection Save image to some location - and remember it! Go to some image hosting site (there are plenty of them in the days of Twitter) Click their "Browse" button Browse for the image if I happened to remember the location where I stored it :) Upload the image and obtain the link which I can share This is simply too many steps. I don't usually mind doing steps 1 to 5 but especially steps 6 and 9 are annoying. Jing is pretty close to what I'm looking for but I find their horrible URLs unbearable. If there was something with similar functionality but better or pluggable hosting, that would be great.

  • QapTcha error issue. Works locally, not on live server [migrated]

    - by BlassFemur
I am adding QapTcha (http://demos.myjqueryplugins.com/qaptcha/) to a website that I am working on and I'm getting the error "Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'error' of null". What's weird to me is everything is working perfectly locally. No errors or anything. Once I uploaded via ftp to the live server, I get the above error. Below is the block of code that seems to be generating the error: Slider.draggable({ revert: function(){ if(opts.autoRevert) { if(parseInt(Slider.css("left")) (bgSlider.width()-Slider.width()-10)) return false; else return true; } }, containment: bgSlider, axis:'x', stop: function(event,ui){ if(ui.position.left (bgSlider.width()-Slider.width()-10)) { // set the SESSION iQaptcha in PHP file $.post(opts.PHPfile,{ action : 'qaptcha', qaptcha_key : inputQapTcha.attr('name') }, function(data) { if(!data.error) Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'error' of null { Slider.draggable('disable').css('cursor','default'); inputQapTcha.val(''); TxtStatus.text(opts.txtUnlock).addClass('dropSuccess').removeClass('dropError'); form.find('input[type=\'submit\']').removeAttr('disabled'); if(opts.autoSubmit) form.find('input[type=\'submit\']').trigger('click'); } },'json'); } } }); I'm not really sure what's going on as to why it works locally and not on the server. Any help/ suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

  • Sonicwall NSA 3500, public ip for SSL VPN clients is not visible

    - by SlyMcFly
I have a Sonciwall NSA 3500 and I'm setting up the SSL VPN according to this guide. I get through setting up the Sonicwall router, but then to test it says "Users can now go to the public IP of the sonicwall. Notice the new “click here for SSL login” hyper link". However, when I go to the public ip of the Sonicwall I don't get a web page, it just times out. Is there some other setting that I'm missing in order to make the SSL VPN login page public?

  • recent unreliable wireless connection on 10.04 and 10.10

    - by gabkdlly
Recently, my internet connection over wireless has become unreliable, on both a Dell laptop running Ubuntu 10.04 as well as my Desktop running Ubuntu 10.10 . The problem does not seem to occur on a laptop running Windows Vista. The problem does not seem to occur on my Openmoko Freerunner ( running Android 1.5 ), though I hardly ever use this device to connect over WLAN, so the problem may have just slipped by. This problem does not seem to appear when I boot into Ubuntu 9.10 from a live CD ( more precisely, I was able to ping fu-berlin.de for an hour without any packet loss ). Under Ubuntu 10.10, I am experiencing about 33% packet loss. On my main Ubuntu Desktop, I have tried the following wireless devices: a Longshine PCI card ( an old device with an RTL8180L chip ) a D-Link DWL-510 PCI card ( this device threw warnings in dmesg ) a USB device from MSI ( US54EX ). Usually my wireless network shows up in the network manager with a normal signal strength, even when the connection speed is slow ( which happens often ) or the connection gets reset ( asking me to click connect to re-authenticate my wireless connection ). I have observed this problem with a Netgear KWGR614 Router ( with the manufacturers firmware ), as well as with a TP-LINK TL-WR741ND router running OpenWrt. Taking a look at my routers logs, I find many instances of the following line: Tuesday,04 Jan 2011 03:53:01 [TCP SYN Flood][Deny access policy matched, dropping packet] I know that the Netgear router is susceptible to denial of service attacks, as I have previously been able to disrupt its operation by putting an nmap scan into a while loop. I use WEP on the Netgear router and WPA on the TP-LINK to encrypt the wireless connections. Is it possible that someone is jamming my signal ?

  • Chrome drag and drop download links

    - by Brad
In Chrome, I used to be able to take a link to a file and just drag to a folder on my system. Chrome would then download whatever resource was at the URL for the link and put it into the folder dropped into. This was particularly handy when using Gmail. If there was an attachment, I could just click and drag it into a folder, and Chrome would download it for me to the correct place. Now I have to hit download, and then drag from the download bar when it is finished. Has this feature been removed? Is there any way to bring it back?

  • How to invert scroll wheel in certain applications using AutoHotkey?

    - by endolith
I want to be able to modify the scrolling/middle click behavior for individual apps on Windows 7, so that the scroll to zoom direction is always consistent across apps. This script makes the middle button act as a hand tool in Adobe Acrobat, for instance: ; Hand tool with middle button in Adobe Reader #IfWinActive ahk_class AdobeAcrobat Mbutton:: #IfWinActive ahk_class AcrobatSDIWindow Mbutton:: Send {Space down}{LButton down} ; Hold down the left mouse button. KeyWait Mbutton ; Wait for the user to release the middle button. Send {LButton up}{Space up} ; Release the left mouse button. return #IfWinActive (It would be great if this could be adapted to allow "throwing" the document, too, like in Android or iPhone interfaces, but I don't know if it's possible to control scrolling that precisely) How do I invert the scroll wheel--zoom direction?

  • set up re-direct for lan clients to local t&c page

    - by tb2571989
Hi, I'm trying to set up something on my network so that when users connect and try and use the internet they are re-directed to a locally-hosted terms and conditions and policy page. Once they click "accept" then they will be passed through to their homepage, otherwise if they decline then the window will close or show them an error message. I've spent a while looking into this and am wondering if it's possible to do witout having to setup/add to a firewall. Otheriwse let me know what my options are and I can pass it on. Many Thanks Tom

  • What are those white circles on the desktop in Gnome 3?

    - by monk
I have Fedora 20 with GNOME 3.10.2. On the desktop background (i.e. where the wallpaper is), there are five small white circles centered at the very bottom of the screen. The first is filled, the others are not. I can click those circles, thereby changing which one is filled, like a radio button. I cannot for the life of me figure out what those circles are supposed to do, and it's starting to drive me crazy. Clicking and thus changing which circle is filled does nothing I can perceive, and there seems to be no configuration option anywhere that has anything to do with them. What are those things? Is there any way to get rid of them? Edit: I made a screenshot of my desktop with no programs running. You can see the dot/circle thingies at the bottom. - by mystycs
I have a site at http://badassmonkeys.com/ and when i click any of the links it does not direct it to the actual page but still pulls up the link. For some reason it works perfectly on linux cpanel and actually loads the pages, but on windows in apache, or in IIS even with a rewrite mod for it, it just doesnt work. The links dont go correctly. • GNOME/KDE Linux entirely in RAM?

    - by František Žiacik
Hi. I'd like to have very responsive linux but I also like modern, elegant and functional desktops like gnome or kde, not the lightweight ones like xfce or lxde. Once I tried PuppyLinux and was impressed by the responsivity when I clicked an application. In my Ubuntu, it bothers me much when I click chromium and must wait 5 seconds of disk flashing until main window appears. Or evolution or anything else. Is it possible to make GNOME or KDE run entirely in RAM like PuppyLinux (of course, I mean frequently used applications and services, not all) if you have enough of it? I don't care if boot time is longer. I tried using "preload" but it didn't help much.

  • How do I maximize a window in one monitor and do other things on the other monitor

    - by RoboShop
Hi, I have windows 7 installed on my laptop which is a Dell studio XPS 16. I recently set up a second monitor for it. I've noticed that when I load up "full maximisation" applications (I don't know the term) like a game or media center on one monitor, I can't seem to do anything with the other monitor. With the game, I can see the other monitor, I can play a movie on it even, but if I click the mouse button on it, it'll stop the game and alt-tab away. In Media Center, I can't even cross my mouse over the other monitor. So my question is, in Windows 7, is it possible to run programs like this that are designed to be run in one maximised window and still be able to do things on the other window?

  • How to add a Mac to Windows Active Directory

I've gone into the Directory Utility on the mac, clicked on the services tab, entered the Active Directory Domain and Computer ID, clicked the Bind button and it showed a little status label which flickered through 5 of 5 steps and then said "An unknown error occurred". If I ignore the error and just click the OK button further down the screen and make sure the Active Directory service is ticked in the list of services, then go to the Directory Servers tab and try to add an Active Directory by entering my ad domain, computer id, admin username and password I get an error "Unable to add the domain. An unexpected error of type -14090 (eDSAuthFailed) occurred." Any ideas?

  • How can I get Windows 7 to remember program windows size and position?

    - by Ben
I can open Outlook and it fills about half of the screen. I then maximize it to read some mail and then minimize it to do some other work. When I click on it again in the taskbar, it is back to the original size that it opened at. I have tried Ctrl-close and Ctrl-maximize but neither seems to work. This also happens with Explorer windows, AutoCAD, Revit, and other programs that I work with. Shouldn't a minimize and a maximize bring the window back to the last size and position?

  • Why can't I share my printer on Windows 7?

    - by Edward Tanguay
I have Windows 7 installed on two computers. I can share folders between them fine. However, I can't seem to share printers between them: when I right-click on the printer I expect to see "share printer" but there is no option for that. When I read about "share printers" in the Windows 7 help, it talks about this computer "not being able to connect to a home network", yet they seem to be connected fine (I can share files between them). Why can't I share printers between the computers if I can share files?
