  • Private cloud solution [Eucalyptus,OpenStack, Nimbus] for Java deployments [Glassfish, Tomcat]

    I am interested in a way to have private cloud which would host Glassfish (or Tomcat) server. Which option from Eucalyptus, Openstack or Nimbus would be best to deploy java applications on it? Or maybe there is something other and I am looking wrong at the problem? The way I imagine this, that I should have some shared storage that I could expand by introducing new nodes to this cluster and have easy management for glassfish instances: something like virtual machines images that I can start and stop on demand and that image is shared among nodes. I don't need concrete step-by-step solution here but guidelines how this should be done are very welcome.

  • How to Remove a VM From Hyper-V Without Deleting the Configuration File?

    I'm in the process of moving a number of virtual machines that are homed on shared storage (a file share, though shared cluster disk would work as well) to a new VM host with access to the same shared storage. The new host is a different build version (moving from Windows Server 2012 Beta to Windows Server 2012 RC - though this same process could be used with migrations of Windows Server 2008/2008 R2 to Windows Server 2012 as well), so I cannot migrate the machine with inbox tooling. I need to remove the VM from management of the source Hyper-V host in order to import the VM to the new Hyper-V host. I want to retain the configuration file, so I can import the VM as it stands and not need to reconfigure it. The VHD files are rather large and they are staying on the same file share, so I'd rather not duplicate them during the move process.

  • Why won't these permissions do what I wish?

    I am trying to make my folder owned by "apache" and then chmod that folder so that only the owner and group can access it. I am trying to do this to keep visitors from executing user-uploaded files directly. Here are the commands I am using: chown -R apache uploads chmod -R 770 uploads Source: http://www.mysql-apache-php.com/fileupload-security.htm Instead it seems that although it is keeping visitors from seeing the files, it is not allowing apache to serve them. Do you have any ideas?

    My Weblogic App Server shows high Memory Utization. The application seems to perform good without any memeory issues. Now that my traffix is going to increase i am worried about the memory and have a feeling things could go bad and need to take action now and i am confused as to should i increase The JVM memory on the weblogic instances which means adding more physical memory or should i increase the number of managed instances in the cluster. Would like to understand what does having high memory utilization mean and the advantage and disadvantages of adding JVM memory and adding managed instances. Thanks

    I am currently running a web server on Debian 6 without a GUI. I connect to the server through SSH using putty from my Windows desktop. When managing Windows systems we use RDP to connect remotely, so how would I do the same for my Debian server? Note: I am not an linux power user. My Debian 6 server is a web server serving ruby on rails+mysql, so I would prefer a light weight remote desktop solution.

    I know Linux can use RDMA NICs like Solarflare... I just found Intel has something like that NetEffect cards. But Intel is talking all about clusters.. Can someone please explain. If I want low-latency networking and install RDMA NIC on my server. Is there limitation on where the cable can go? Is there a specific device expected on the other end? Is it special RDMA switch or RDMA adapter before switch or what? Why is this cluster talk? What if I want a single server with Windows (I can install HPC Windows or Windows 2008 R2)?

I happened to notice that it looks like there's another user logged in from my (personal) computer; 19:04:47 up 40 days, 6:39, 44 users, load average: 0.10, 0.14, 0.18 USER TTY FROM LOGIN@ IDLE JCPU PCPU WHAT ME pts/4 zerg.neuron12. 18:55 0.00s 0.09s 0.04s w SOMEONE_ELSE pts/35 zerg.neuron12. Sat14 2:27m 0.08s 0.08s -bash Is this something I should be worried out - I tried to kill the other session but had a permission denied message. Is it possible we just both have the same hardware name? I'd have thought that if this were the case the server would give one of us a different name (e.g. zerg1) when we logged in to prevent confusion. This is not an area I have any experience with, so any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Simple question, I have 3 hosts running 4.1 Essentials Plus with vmware HA. I tried to create several virtual machines that filled 90% of each server's memory capacity. I know that vmware has really sophisticated memory management within virtual machines, but I do not understand how the vCenter can allow me even to power on the virtual machines that exceed the critical memory level, when the host failover can be still handled. Is it due to the fact that virtual machines does not use the memory, so that it is still considered as free, so virtual machines can be powered on ? But what would happen if all VMs would be really using the RAM before the host failure - they could not be migrated to other hosts after the failure. The default behaviour in XenServer is that, it automatically calculates the maximum memory level that can be used within the cluster so that the host failure is still protected. Vmware does the same thing ? The admission policy is enabled. Vmware HA enabled.

  • OSX: Selecting default application for all unknown and different file types (extensions)

    I work in cluster computing and am using Mac OS X 10.6. I send off hundreds of computing jobs a day, and each one comes back with with a different extension. For example, svmGeneSelect.o12345 which is the std output of my svmGeneSelect job which is job number 12345. I don't control the extensions. All files are plain text. I want OSX to open any file extension that it hasn't seen before with my favorite text editor when I click on it. Or even better set up file association defaults for extension patterns ie textEdit for extensions matching *.o*. I do NOT want to create file associations for individual files since this extension will only ever exist once, and I do not want to go through the process of selecting the application to use for each file.   • Enabling Session Directory under Terminal Server Configuration Tool and Server Settings

    Yello, I'm trying to add up a Terminal Server Session Directory client to an already fully functional Session Directory cluster which today runs two clients as well as the server. I've been reading up on both Google, Microsoft KB's as well as old documentation from an earlier employee but to no avail. The step I'm stuck at is when I open up Terminal Server Configuration Tool (tscc.msc), chooses ServerSettings. I know there should be an option saying "Session Directory" on the right hand side along with Active Desktop, Licensing and whatnot, but it's not there. I've logged on to both the other already functional clients and checked the same list and there the Session Directory option sure is both visible as well as working good with the specified information. This picture is the same view that I'm looking at at the moment, but mine is missing the bottom option that says "Session Directory" http://www.inetnj.com/doc/images/TerminalServerConfiguration.jpg Any help would be greatly appriciated.     Hello I'm constructing 5ESX+a vCenter serv. I'm testing FT on the system. Today vCenter OS (W2008) demanded system reboot. After rebooting vCenter Serv. All of ESX hosts have alert icon. end indicate "not responding" I tried to connect ESX (version 4) hosts to vCenter again. Once they came back normally, but after few seconds ,They turned red again. All of them have ping connection to vCenter serv. There are no red messages in Tusks and events. Two messages are found in Summary of Cluster ·There aren't sufficient resource for HA failover. ·Can't contact primary HA agent. I'm also not able to reset FT configuration because all of VMS aren't accessed from vCenter What should I do?

  • VMWare - persistent "Host memory status" alarm in vSphere

    I have a particular VMWare ESX 4.1 host that has a very persistent "Host memory status" alarm. This is running on an HP ProLiant DL360 G7 server. The HP ILO and System Management agents don't know any errors. If I clear the alarm in the vSphere client, it returns within a day. I've tried reseating DIMMs, however, the error does not indicate a problem with a specific module. There's another host in the cluster with an identical configuration. It's not exhibiting any issues. Any thoughts? This is touched on briefly on other forums (and here) with no clear resolution.

    We’ve got a performance problem in production. QA and DEV environments are 2 instances on the same physical server: Windows 2003 Enterprise SP2, 32 GB RAM, 1 Quad 3.5 GHz Intel Xeon X5270 (4 cores x64), SQL 2005 SP3 (9.0.4262), SAN Drives Prod: Windows 2003 Datacenter SP2, 64 GB RAM, 4 Dual Core 1.6 GHz Intel Family 80000002, Model 6 Itanium (8 cores IA64), SQL 2005 SP3 (9.0.4262), SAN Drives, Veritas Cluster I am seeing excessive Signal Wait Percentages ( 250%) and Page Reads /s (50) and Page Writes /s (25) are both high occasionally. I did test this query on both QA and PROD and it has the same execution plan and even the same stats: SELECT top 40000000 * INTO dbo.tmp_tbl FROM dbo.tbl GO Scan count 1, logical reads 429564, physical reads 0, read-ahead reads 0, lob logical reads 0, lob physical reads 0, lob read-ahead reads 0. As you can see it’s just logical reads, however: QA: 0:48 Prod: 2:18 So It seems like a processor related issue, however I’m not sure where to go next, any ideas? Thanks, Aaron

  • VMWare Guest NIC Teaming

    We're looking to add additional bandwidth to a VM running on an ESXi cluster running 5.1. How can I team these within the VM? I suspect I need to add a second e1000 and then install some Intel software to team them. Any idea which version of Intel driver? Is there some better software to use? EDIT: Sorry, neglected some information. The guest OS is Win2k8R2. The physical NICs on the host are 1Gbps. The reason this has come up is we are seeing the VM hitting near cap on the capability of a single 1Gbps link (Usually at 100-110MBps, bursting to 130s, but I think that may just be a UI math lie) and we're interested in seeing if adding an additional NIC in a teamed setting will increase the overall throughput.

  • Virutal Machine loses network connectivity on Hyper V

    We're running a number of VMs on a 6 node failover cluster of blades using Hyper V. We have an intermittent issue (every few days at different times - not a fixed frequency) of VMs losing network connectivity. Console access to the VM suggests all is fine and the underlying blade has normal connectivity. To resolve the problem we either have to re-start the VM or, more usually, we do a live migration to another blade which fires up connectivity and we then migrate it back to the original blade. I've had 3 instances of this happen with a specific VM running on a particular blade however it has happened once with a different VM running on a different blade. All VMs and blades have the same basic setup and are running Windows 2008 R2. Any ideas where I should be looking to diagnose the possible causes of this problem as the event logs provide no help?

    I type echo $PATH on the command line and get /opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:/Users/andrew/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/mysql/bin:/usr/local/pear/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/X11/bin:/opt/local/bin:/usr/local/git/bin I'm wondering where this is getting set since my .bash_login file is empty. I'm particularly concerned that, after installing MacPorts, it installed a bunch of junk in /opt. I don't think that directory even exists in a normal Mac OS X install.     I've configured a WAMP (Windows Apache MySQL and PHP) stack when when configured to use local storage takes 3-4 seconds to load. When I use an SMB/UNC share it takes 12-15 seconds to load.   • How memory hungry is Jetty?

    I am planning to use Jetty + MySQL on a small VPS with just 256 or 512MB memory, for serving a few websites. I haven't used Jetty before, only PHP on shared hosting.
