  • How to Shrink/Reset File stderr1 on a SAP System?

    I have a file called stderr1 in the work directory of several of the SAP servers in my production cluster. It has grown to around 19GB's to fill the hard disk on each server. I have deleted all trace files and WP files from within transaction SM50 but that hasn't deleted it (or re-named it to .old). If I try to rename or delete it manually, it says I can't because the file is in use. Please can you tell me how I can delete or shrink the stderr1 file?

    I have a munin-master and munin-node installed on same server (Ubuntu 9.10 server). Most pre-installed plugins work well but the following plugins are with blank graph: Memcached bytes used Memcached connections Memcached cache hits and misses Memcached cached items Memcached requests Memcached network traffic MySQL Queries Cache Size I run the following 3 script in terminal and results were ok. /etc/munin/plugins/memcached_bytes /etc/munin/plugins/memcached_counters /etc/munin/plugins/memcached_rates But when I tried the command below after "telnet localhost 4949" fetch memcached_bytes # Unknown service etch memcached_bytes_ # timeout pid 28009 - killing...done Does anyone know the reason?

    On a new copy of Ubuntu 11.04 server I am trying to install PostgreSQL server by apt-get install postgresql. But in the end of installation log I saw: Error: could not create default cluster. Please create it manually with pg_createcluster 8.4 main --start When I ran this command I saw this message: perl: warning: Setting locale failed. perl: warning: Please check that your locale settings: LANGUAGE = "en_US:en", LC_ALL = (unset), LC_CTYPE = "UTF-8", LANG = "en_US.UTF-8" are supported and installed on your system. perl: warning: Falling back to the standard locale ("C"). Error: The locale requested by the environment is invalid. And no PostgreSQL server started :( What I need to do to become happy on this?

    I'd like to do some analysis of our NFS server to help track down potential bottlenecks in our applications. The server is running SUSE Enterprise Linux 10. The kind of things I'm looking to know are: Which files are being accessed by which clients Read/write throughput on a per-client basis Overhead imposed by other RPC calls Time spent waiting on other NFS requests, or disk I/O, to service a client I already know about the statistics available in /proc/net/rpc/nfsd and in fact I wrote a blog post describing them in depth. What I'm looking for is a way to dig deeper and help understand what factors are contributing to the performance seen by a particular client. I want to analyze the role the NFS server plays in the performance of an application on our cluster so that I can think of ways to best optimize it.

  • Is there a simple Load Balancer app for development environment on Windows?

    Does there exist a simple Load Balancer app for development on Windows? I am running a pair of JBoss 5.x instances in a cluster on a single machine. Normally , this configuration is load balanced by a nice hardware load balancer but I am wondering if there is a simple piece of software to enable load balancing in my Eclipse dev environment. Basically, for example, I want a load balancer running on port 11111 that round-robins between the 2 clustered JBoss instances on ssl ports 8443 and 8543 . (or http port if thats not possible) I know that Glassfish has a built-in load balancer but I can't use Glassfish. One idea I have is to try to setup a separate instance of Tomcat with the "balancer" web app. Im trying that now... not sure if it will work... and its a complicated setup and I wish there was something really easy.

  • Virtual NIC on VM couldn't ping externally after Vmotion

    Today I vmotioned 5 MS SQL 2005 servers over to a new DRS Cluster. All SQL servers use the "Production_LAN" network and a single virtual NIC of type "VMXNET 3". The first 4 SQL VM (Windows 2003 Standard or Enterprise x32 bit) vmotioned over without a hitch. The last SQL VM I vmotioned (Windows 2003 Standard x64 bit R2) vmotioned over without error, but I upon completion, I could no longer ping the VM. I went into the VM and could not even ping the gateway, however I could ping the loopback. This SQL server is extremely busy in comparison with the previous 4 VM's. I restarted the server and it came back up with the virtual nic working just fine. The build of both servers (vmotioner and vmotionee) is ESX 4.0.0 175625 - So, pre-update 1. Should I suspect the network switch/VM for possibly not updating the mac table on the switch? Anybody else ever have this issue or know what may have caused it? Thank you!

  • Good Linux disaster-ready filesystem?

    I'm working on this emergency open wi-fi network project and it includes a local website (nginx + MySQL). In order to eliminate SPOFs, we're going to setup at least two of everything (server, switch, router, etc.). This network is thought to work when an earthquake strikes and it's very likely to a server to go to down, if so, we need to be able to boot them up and be operating as soon as possible. Do any of you know if any linux filesystem would work better than others in this scenario?

  • NFS denies mount, even though the client is listed in exports

    We have a couple of servers (part of an HPC cluster) in which we're currently seeing some NFS behavior which is not making sense to me. node1 exports its /lscratch directory via NFS to node2, mounted at /scratch/node1. node2 also exports its own lscratch, which is correspondingly mounted at /scratch/node2 on node1. Unfortunately, whenever I attempt to mount either NFS export on the opposite node, I get the following error: mount: node1:/lscratch failed, reason given by server: Permission denied This despite the fact that I have included first the IP range (10.6.0.0) and then the specific IPs (10.6.7.1, 10.6.7.2) in /etc/exports. Any suggestions? Edit to remove ambiguity: I've made sure that exports only contains either the range, or the specific IPs, not both at the same time.

  • Apache server immediately shuts down

    I just installed MySql 5.1.49, Apache 2.2.16 and PHP 5.3.3 on my Vista Home Basic. I followed the instructions in the "Sam's Teach Yourself", adding: LoadModule php5_module C:/php/php5apache2_2.dll PHPIniDir "C:/php/" and AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .html I changed the Listening port to 8080 and the domain is localhost. When I start the server it pops open the window for less than a second and then closes. What am I missing? Thanks.

I have all necessary strings in /etc/paths /usr/bin /bin /usr/sbin /sbin /usr/local/bin in ~/.bash_profile export PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/mysql/bin export PATH=$PATH:$HOME/.rvm/bin export PATH="$(brew --prefix php54)/bin:$PATH" export PATH="$(brew --prefix)/bin:$PATH" But every time I execute echo $PATH in terminal, I get only /usr/local/bin if I put .bash_profile strings to .profile or .bashrc I have no effect.

  • Resizing Partitions on Live RHEL/cPanel Server

    I've resized many partitions over the years on Linux, Windows and Mac OS X -- but always using a GUI. However, the time has come where the preset partition sizes my data center placed on my server aren't the right sizes and I need to resize a production server's disks. I could fiddle with it and probably do OK, but given that it is a production server, I wanted to get some advice about the right way to do this. I do have KVM over IP access, so if it is best to take the server offline and boot off a rescue partition, I can do that. root [/var/lib/mysql]# df -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sda2 9.9G 2.1G 7.3G 23% / tmpfs 7.8G 0 7.8G 0% /dev/shm /dev/sda1 99M 77M 18M 82% /boot /dev/sda8 884G 463G 376G 56% /home /dev/sda3 9.9G 8.0G 1.5G 85% /usr /dev/sda5 9.9G 9.1G 308M 97% /var /usr/tmpDSK 2.0G 38M 1.8G 3% /tmp As you can see /var and /usr are quite close to being full and I've actually had to symlink some logs on /usr to directories in /home to balance things out. What I would like to do is to add 6-10 GB each to /usr and /var, presumably taking the space from /home. As I think about how the disk is arranged, the best thought I've come up with is to reduce /home by 16 GB, say, and move /var to the spot freed up, then allocating /var's space to /usr. However, that would put /var at the far end of the disk, which seems less than idea, given that MySQL has all of its data on that partition. I'd love to take the space out of the closer end of /usr, but I assume that would take a very arduous (and perhaps risky) process of moving all of the data in /usr around. I seem to recall having such a process fail for me on a computer in the past. The other option might be to merge / and /usr since / is underutilized, though I'm not sure if that's a good idea. Do you have any suggestions both on the best reallocation plan and the commands to use to accomplish it? UPDATE: I should add -- here's the partition table.   • Roundcube connection to storage server failed

    I recently installed kloxo on a brand new VPS and set up mail servers and everything. i am using courier-imap on my VPS and i have verified it is running however i cannot for the life of me get into mail with round cube, i keep getting the error connection to storage server failed, is this an issue with my database. I have tried granting all privileges to the round cube user in MySQL and restarted qmail several times. Any ideas?

  • Windows 2008 File Share

    Hi, I have 3 Windows 2008 Standard servers in my system with no domain controller. Two of the servers are running a NLB cluster and the third server is a file server that the web servers connect to. I want to store my source code on the file server and point the IIS config to the network file share. The web sites also need access to a file share on the file server. I was able to share the network drive and access while logged into either of the web servers but my web apps are unable to access the file share - I assume due to permissions. Does anybody know the correct way to do this? Thanks, Chris

    I type echo $PATH on the command line and get /opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:/Users/andrew/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/mysql/bin:/usr/local/pear/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/X11/bin:/opt/local/bin:/usr/local/git/bin I'm wondering where this is getting set since my .bash_login file is empty. I'm particularly concerned that, after installing MacPorts, it installed a bunch of junk in /opt. I don't think that directory even exists in a normal Mac OS X install.   • Internal+external interfaces with multiple default gateways on win2003

    Im trying to set up several web servers for a load balanced cluster and need to have each server connected to the internal network (for load balancing) as well as to an external network (internet - for administration). I have two NICs but since I cant set two default gateways I have the external gateway as default and the internal as a route rule. This setup only works half way - the internal network is fine but I cant log in from outside or see the web from the box. If I switch the gateways remote login/web will work, but the internal wont. Im sure someone encountered this before but wasnt able to find anything online. Any help will be appreciated.

    I have created a simple pastebin in Ruby on Rails and Python. I want to host it in an intranet and it will have like about 1000 users. I want to use one Apache server with a cluster of Mongrel servers. The server itself is a 2 GHz Intel Centrino with 2 GB RAM. What do you think is the best OS to host this? I thought about Damn Small Linux or a custom LFS system. Ubuntu servers come with loads of stuff I don't need. Maybe there are some better OSes? It must be capable of: Running Apache Running Ruby Running Python Running Mongrel with Ruby on Rails SSH Can anyone reccomend me one? Thanks.   • SQL Server 2008 Replication Promotion

    I have a 4 node cluster, 1 subscriber and 3 publishers, all running SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise. The intention is that if the subscriber goes down, we can use one of the publishers to quickly build up its replacement. Our testing reveals a problem though: the subcriber databases all have Not For Replication set to Yes on the identity columns so that they can maintain the identity set in the subscriber. This causes a problem when they become subscribers because now we don't have identity insert functionality: we get a primary key error. Any way to "promote" a subscriber to publisher?
