• Where does that randomness come from ?

  I'm working on a data mining research project and use code from a big svn. Apparently one of the methods I use from that svn uses randomness somewhere without asking for a seed, which makes 2 calls to my program return different results. That's annoying for what I want to do, so I'm trying to locate that "uncontrolled" randomness. Since the classes I use depend on many other, that's pretty painful to do by hand. Any idea how I could find where that randomness comes from ?

• How to resume an ftp download at any point? (shell script, wget option)?

  hi! i want to download a huge file from an ftp server in chunks of 50-100MB each. At each point, i want to be able to set the "starting" point and the length of the chunk i want. i wont have the "previous" chunks saved locally (ie i cant ask the program to "resume" the downlaod). what is the best way of going about that? i use wget mostly, but would something else be better?

• What does this error mean: "lo->hi recycling invariant violated!" and what can I do to fix it?

  My iPhone app started logging this error: lo-hi recycling invariant violated! followed by: Program received signal: “EXC_BAD_ACCESS” whenever I launched it on my iPod (3.1.3) and sometimes when I launch it in the simulator. What does this error mean, and how can I fix it? I am using cover-flow in my app. I think this might be the problem. Thanks in advance.

However this even if the userName is only 3 characters and is not student I'm still hitting Application.Exit.   I'm trying to sort a bunch of data such that that the size of data input to the program can be larger than the memory available to the JVM, and handling that requires external sort which is much slower than Quicksort. Is there any way of obtaining memory available to the JVM at runtime such that I could use in place sorting as much as possible, and only switch to Mergesort when data input is too large?

• Aquaterm: titles and axis labels getting cut off

  I'm using aquaterm 1.0.1 through octave and gnuplot - on my mac - to generate printable plots. When aquaterm generates my plots, it has a habit of cutting off or cropping all of the titles and axis labels. Is there another imaging program that works with octave that won't have this problem? • UIWebView doesn't scroll to the bottom of the webpage loaded/created

  I have a UIWebView inside a normal UIViewController. The content of the UIWebView is programming/dynamically created in my program, and it could be very long (multiple table rows). Somehow, after loading, the page won't scroll more then one and half screen of content when swipe on the screen. Because of that I can only see the beginning few rows of data, but not the many others after them. Why is that?
