  • Using jQuery for Effects

    - by OneNerd
Ok - have been tasked with possibly an impossible (or at least a potentially nightmarish) scenario. Need to come as close as possible to reproducing PowerPoint-like effects via HTML/JavaScript (the spec is large and ugly, so I will spare you the details). Ultimately, I am looking for a solid launching point. I have used both Prototype/Scriptaculous as well as jQuery in many projects, and based on what I am seeing, it appears jQuery has the more plug-in available, so am leaning towards using jQuery. Can anyone point me to some plug-ins, articles, or anything else that would help me in accelerating the research on this so I can define to my client what can and cannot be done. Any other suggestions from you jQuery gurus are welcome of course. Thanks -

  • CQRS, Commands, Javascript

    - by Tolu
I have an architecture where a task-based UI passes commands to a service layer. Now, my intention is to implement the UI in javascript, using KendoUI and the service layer, domain layer etc. in .NET. I'm also looking at future mobile implementations of the client that may use say Java rather than Javascript. If I define the commands in .NET, I'd like to know how to use them from my Javascript client so the client can communicate the commands appropriately to service layer. Do I have to use something like Apache Thrift for this i.e. to define the commands at both the client and service layer?

  • How do I get the current location of an iframe?

    - by studiothat
I have built a basic data entry application allowing users to browse external content in iframe and enter data quickly from the same page. One of the data variables is the URL. Ideally I would like to be able to load the iframes current url into a textbox with javascript. I realize now that this is not going to happen due to security issues. Has anyone done anything on the server side? or know of any .Net browser in browser controls. The ultimate goal is to just give the user an easy method of extracting the url of the page they are viewing in the iframe It doesn't necessarily HAVE to be an iframe, a browser in the browser would be ideal. Thanks, Adam

  • Modular HTML in Adobe AIR? Is It Possible?

    - by Greg Bulmash
When I write HTML with a PHP backend, I usually have a single header file and a single footer file with some PHP variables in them. The base skeleton for every page calls the header, contains the body content, and then calls the footer. That way, if I want to make changes to the header sitewide, I change one file. I'm working on developing the UI in my first Adobe AIR app and I'm wondering if there's some way to include such files in an HTML based page template there. Obviously, with the file read/write abilities in AIR, I can write a Javascript routine to pull data from a header file, parse it, and inject it into a placeholder. It just seems like such a kludge. I'm thinking there's gotta be some simple way to import a block of HTML into a page without an iFrame or complex post-processor. Something like a PHP include statement or perhaps the old Server Side Includes. Any methods you guys can recommend?

  • jQuery click event not working when mouse moves from one div to another with button held down

    - by Acorn
I've made a page that uses jQuery to allow you to place <div>s on the page based on your mouse coordinates when you click. The page And here's the javascript: $('document').ready(function() { $("#canvas").click(function(e){ var x = e.pageX - this.offsetLeft; var y = e.pageY - this.offsetTop; $(document.createElement('div')).css({'left':x + 'px', 'top':y + 'px'}).addClass('tile').appendTo('#canvas'); }); }); I've found that if you mousedown in the div#canvas and mouseup with your pointer over a placed <div> (or vice versa) then a new <div> doesn't get placed. Why is this?

  • Format SQL Query Result into web menu

    - by highwingers
I am trying to bhuild a drill down menu for my website, where user will click on a category and it will show the subcategories of that clicked category, there could be n-levels. I am able to write sql query which returns the output exactaly as I want, but the problem is...I dont want to show the whole menu to end user, I would like to open/expand only clicked category. my Query output is: 1 IPTV 2 Jadoo Tv 3 Shava Tv 4 Jalva Tv 5 Programming 6 Microsoft 7 Asp.Net 8 PHP so by default IPTV & Programming Should be displayed, since they are parent, and when I click on IPTV it should open the children of IPTV, like I said there could be n-levels. I was thinking, I can load the output of query to webpage and then control the menu navigation with css/javascript. do you guys have any ideas?

  • Hiding Text in ie7

    - by user356849
So I have this text generated by a javascript plugin. <a class="className">Text</a> a.className { background: url(images/a-image.png) no-repeat; } But the "Text" shows on top of the image... Now... with any respectable web browser, I can use color: rgba(0,0,0,0); to solve the problem, but IE7 doesn't obey standards of any sort. Any ideas?

  • Loading an XML file with todays date in the filename... need to fallback to old file if one with tod

    - by arala22
    So here is my question. Using javascript/jQuery I am currently loading in an XML file that has a file name such as carousel_large_2010-06-08.xml.. the way I am doing it is checked for todays date then grabbing a file that has that date in the filename... the issue is sometimes they wont be uploading a new file for a given day so it needs to fallback to a older date that exists.. Wondering how to do it? Here is my code: // set date for xml file var currentTime = new Date(), month = currentTime.getMonth() + 1, day = currentTime.getDate(), year = currentTime.getFullYear(); if(month.toString().length == 1){ month = '0'+month.toString(); } if(day.toString().length == 1){ day = '0'+day.toString(); } var dateObject = year+"-"+month+"-"+day; // start magic $jq.ajax({ type: "GET", url: "_xml/carousel/home/carousel_large_"+dateObject+".xml", dataType: "xml", success: HPCarousels.heroCarousel.parseXML, error: function(){ alert('Error Loading XML Content'); } });

  • ASP.NET: How to specify which button should defaultly react for an Enter press?

    - by agnieszka
I have a webpage where there are two buttons and a textbox. When the page loads and user presses enter, the first button is clicked - and that is ok. I would like to assure that if user enters the textBox and types anything there and THEN presses enter, the second button is clicked. When I enter the textBox I can tell that the first button will be used when I press enter, because it is a bit dark-blue-bordered then. I tried javascript's if (event && event.keyCode == 13) document.getElementById("Button2").click(); but it somehow doesn't work. So my second thought was that there must be a possibility to tell the browser which button should defaultly react for an enter press when I'm in a specific textBox (the dark-blue-bordered button). Edit: it might matter that first button is input and the second one is asp:Button

  • How do you override an existing html form to use jquery to post the form?

    - by Chris
I have a simple form that I am currently posting back to the server to update a nickname. What jquery code do I add (without changing the form) so that the page will not refresh, but instead jquery will post the form in the background and then pop up an alert message containing the reply back from the server? <form method="post" action="http://www.myserver.com/update_nickname" name="input"> Quick form to test update_nickname:<br> New nickname:<input type="text" value="BigJoe" name="newNickname"><br> <input type="submit" value="Submit"> </form> <script src="jquery-1.4.2.min.js" type="text/javascript"> </script>

  • How to color HTML elements based on parsing a user command string

    - by Anonymous the Great
I'm working on a little parsing thing to color objects. For an example, you could type red:Hi!: and "Hi!" would be red. This is my not working code: <script type="text/javascript"> function post() { var preview = document.getElementById("preview"); var submit = document.getElementById("post"); var text = submit.value; <?php str_replace("red:*:",'<i class="red">*</i>',text); ?> preview.value = text; } </script>

  • Open Safari from within Opera Mini on the iPhone

    - by Ican Zilb
Now that Opera Mini is becoming so popular in the App store I want to effectively warn my web site visitors that the rendition they see in Opera Mini is far from what I meant them to see and redirect them to my page in Mobile Safari, so they can enjoy HTML5 and CSS3. I've been banging my head around that task all day long, but I can't seem to find a solution. My hope lies in the custom URL schemes, but seems Opera Mini handles all schemes which usually Safari does. Would be great if there's a scheme like safari://www.domain.com which opens ONLY in Safari, so I can redirect the visitors to it. Does anybody know a solution to that problem? --edit Just to make myself clear - browser detection is not the problem (I'm doing Javascript for 13 years now) the question is if there's a way to invoke the Safari app on the iPhone from within a web page which is being viewed in Opera Mini.

  • Ensuring dynamically added Dojo Dijits are registered in the DOM.

    - by Pro777
I need to dynamically create Dijits to add N rules to a particular form. Currently I am adding them with the following javascript. var value = new dijit.form.Select({ id: "value_" + counter, store: ValueStore, searchAttr: "description" }, "stateSelect" + counter); value.placeAt(form, "last"); value.startup(); This is creating the element correctly in the form, but it is not associated when the form actually posts. I know Dojo is recognizing the Dijit because the styling is correct. How can I make sure they are included in the DOM form?

  • wordpress path url in js script file

    - by Cam
I added custom script wp_enqueue_script('functions', get_bloginfo('template_url') . '/js/functions.js', 'search', null, false); works great, except in the functions.js i have Reset.style.background = "url('../images/searchfield_clear.png') no-repeat top left"; now this used to work before, until changed to pretty permalinks and .htaccess the folder hierarchy is like: themename/js themename/images (the images and js folder are in themename folder) i tried ../images - ./image - /images normally it should go back 1 level where-ever the js file is located.... i dont want to use full path is there a other way that wordpress can recognize in the javascript file to have the correct path? currently i am just confused what i am doing wrong

  • Does JSLint parse DOM functions?

    - by Paul
I tried to use the parse() function of JSLint to parse three pieces of JavaScript code: function(b, c){var a = b + c; return a; } window.addEventListener('click', click_hanlder, true); document.documentElement.innerHTML; Here's the code, which is copied and pasted from the JSLint self-parse example: ` try { parse = make_parse(); var source = "something to parse";//replaced by the code above tree = parse(source); if (tree) { document.write(JSON.stringify(tree, ['key', 'name', 'message', 'value', 'arity', 'first', 'second', 'third', 'fourth'], 4)); } } catch (e) { document.write(JSON.stringify(e, ['name', 'message', 'from', 'to', 'key', 'value', 'arity', 'first', 'second', 'third', 'fourth'], 4)); } ` The output: returns a correct tree. returns a tree with only one node of "window". crashes the browser. I'm wondering whether JSLint doesn't support DOM function.

  • How can I access this nested array within my JSON object?

    - by Charles
I'm using PHP to return a json_encode()'d array for use in my Javascript code. It's being returned as: {"parent1[]":["child1","child2","child2"],"parent2[]":["child1"]} By using the following code, I am able to access parent2 > child1 $.getJSON('myfile.php', function(data) { for (var key in data) { alert(data[key]); } } However, this doesn't give me access to child1, child2, child, of parent1. Alerting the key by itself shows 'parent1' but when I try to alert it's contents, I get undefined. I figured it would give me an object/array? How do I access the children of parent1? data[key][0] ?

  • Easy way to replicate web page across machines?

    - by Mike_G
I am trying to replicate a browser page to another browser on another machine. I basically want to reproduce a page exactly how it appears to a customer for viewing by the website owner. I have done this before using some impersonation trickery, but found that it would throw the session state out of wack when the site owner would switch customers. So I would like to stay away from cookie and authentication manipulation. Anybody done anything like that? Is there a way to easily transfer the DOM to a webservice? The tech/programming at my disposal are C#, javascript, WCF.

  • ExtJS Grid slow with 3000+ records

    - by Oliver Watkins
I am using ExtJS Grid and its getting pretty slow with 3000+ records. Sorting takes about 4 seconds. Compared to other more Javascript tables, this is pretty slow. I am thinking maybe to use pagination in my table. However after reading the documentation, I am still a bit unsure about how pagination works in extjs. Does this pull data from the server each time u turn a page? I would prefer that wasn't the case. I would prefer the 3000 records are saved in the browser and then what is rendered is just a portion of those rows. Also I am using Extjs version 4.2.1. If I upgrade to version 5. will I get some performance improvements?

  • Confused about adding multiple td's to tr using jQuery

    - by Jason
    So I have the following code: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready( function () { $("#txt").click(function () { var $TableRow = $('<tr></tr>'); var $TableData = $('<td></td>'); var $TableData2 = $('<td></td>'); // Works $("#tblControls").append( $TableRow.html( $TableData.text("Test, Hello World3") ) ); </script> <div style="display: inline"> <input type="button" id="txt" value="Add TextBox" style="" /> </div> <br/> <table id="tblControls" width="100%"> </table> But why does this not add two td's to the tr? $("#tblControls").append( $TableRow.html( $TableData.text("Test, Hello World3") + $TableData2.text("Test, Hello World4") ) ); What I get is this: [object Object][object Object]

  • Converting a stopwatch time to milliseconds (regex)

    - by Nick
I'm trying to figure out the best way to convert a string containing a time to an integer number of milliseconds. I'm using a suboptimal way using a bunch of preg_match()'s and some array handling, but I was wondering if there was an elegant way. Here are some example stopwatch times (some wouldn't actually be seen on a stopwatch but need to be converted anyway): 3:34:05.81 34:05 5 (just 5 seconds) 89 (89 seconds) 76:05 (76 minutes, 5 seconds) Millseconds will not extend past 2 decimal places. You can give me an example using either PHP or Javascript regex functions. Thanks!

  • Creating a Better Tabbed Interface in Django

    - by ygd
I've been trying to create a tabbed interface using Django. The current effort (which works fine) is having each template have the header hard-coded in, with the selected tab given the "selected" CSS attribute. Of course, this is a massive violation of DRY and I'm looking to remedy it. My current idea is adding a jQuery script to the page that looks at all the tabs and sets one to "selected" if it's text matches the beginning of the title for the page. Is there a better way to do this without using JavaScript and just pure CSS?

  • ASP.Net navigation tabs like windows tab control

    - by devphil
I would like to have a webpage something like windows tab control. Each webpage does not lose the contents and data while moving between pages, postbacks, etc. Here is the website design and my idea: [Master Page] "Fruits" "Cars" "Animals" "Operators" clicking on "Fruits" will forwards to "Fruits" page, and the same for other links (tabs) The user works on "Fruits" page searching fruits, fill up some fields, etc. The user then moves to "Cars" page and then builds up his own car by filling some fields, etc and then the user goes back to "Fruits" page again - the user sees the same page where she/he left on "Fruits" page. Please suggest some good ways other than using javascript:history.go(-1). Is this possible to implement?

  • Calculate open timeslots given availability and existing appointments - by day

    - by Andre
Overview: I have a table which stores a persons "availability" for a current day, e.g. Mon - 8:00am - 11:30am Mon - 1:30pm - 6:00pm A second table stores appointments that this person already has for the same day, e.g. Mon - 8:30am - 11:00am Mon - 2:30pm - 4pm Desired result: Doing calculationsI'd like to have the following result - e.g. "this person has availability on the given day": Mon - 8:00am - 8:30am Mon - 11:00am - 11:30am Mon - 1:30pm - 2:30pm Mon - 4:00pm - 6:00pm Any ideas on how to calculate the output given the two inputs (e.g. availability, existing appointments) would be greatly appreciated. Preferably I'd use javascript on the client to do the calculating as I would believe that doing it within the DB (I'm using MSSQL) would be slow for many records, persons, etc. Hope this is enough information to illustrate the problem at hand - Many thanks in advance.
