  • Which Java Framework is best suited for a web application with reusable content/behavior

    - by Jacob
I come from a .NET background and need to do a web project in Java. I have read a bit on all the different Java web frameworks out there: JSF, Stripes, Wicket, Tapestry etc. But I would like to hear from people with real-life expertise with these frameworks. Of course I want a framework that is up to date, supports AJAX, is cool and so on, but one of my main criteria is the ability to somehow create reusable components / tags. The customer needs to be able to move tags/components around without too much problem in order to customize it for their specific needs. In ASP.NET Webforms I would use custom controls and user controls for this, and in ASP.NET MVC I would use user controls as well as home made custom controls. So what Java frameworks excel in this? My own superficial research seems to conclude that JSF supports some kind of custom controls (Bear in mind i am not only talking about layout reuse, but also behavior reuse, so if for example the customer / client wants a customer list on page x and not only on page Y, he would simply put in a <jr:CustomerList runat="server" .... /> (fictional example with ASP.NET Webforms syntax)).

  • Strange behaviour using Drag and Drop in word 2003 automation in headers

    - by Oliver Hanappi
Hi! I am developing a template based addin for Word 2003 which allows the user to drag and drop elements from a listbox into the word document. Unfortunately I'm getting a really strange behaviour when trying to drop elements in the document's header. Open the template and type something in the header Close the header and insert some content on the page Add a page break. Switch to page layout mode where and set zoom level to "Two Pages" Open the header Slowly Drag and Drop an list item from the list box to the header. See multiple Page Setups dialogs occur which cause Word to crash. Here is my code: // in ThisDocument.cs public MyUserControl _control; public void Init() { _control = new MyUserControl(); ActionsPane.Controls.Add(_control); ActionsPane.Visible = true; } // in MyUserControl.cs public void listBox1_MouseDown(object sender, MouseEventArgs e) { DoDragDrop("something", DragDropEffects.Copy); } Have I done somethinkg wrong with implementing Drag and Drop? Is there a workaround for this strange behaviour? Thanks in advance, Oliver Hanappi

  • Is there any way to combine transparency and "ajax usability" with HTML templates

    - by Sam
I'm using HTML_Template_Flexy in PHP but the question should apply to any language or template library. I am outputting a list of relatively complex objects. In the beginning I just iterated over a list of the objects and called a toHtml method on them. When I was about to have my layout designer look over the template I noticed that it was too opaque and that he would have ended up looking through and/or editing many additional php source files to see what really gets generated by the toHtml method. So I extracted most of the HTML strings in the php classes up to the template which made for one clear file where you can see the whole page structure at once. However this causes problems when you want to add an object to the list using javascript. Then I have to keep the old toHtml method and maintain both the main template and the html strings at the same time, so I can output just the HTML for a new object that should be added to the page. So I'm back to the idea of using smaller templates for the objects that make up the page, but I was wondering if there was some easy way of having my cake and eating it too by having one template that shows the whole page but also the mini-templates for smaller objects on the page. Edit: Yes, updating the page is not a problem at all. My concern is with having both maintainability and transparency of the template files. If I have one single template for the whole page, then I must maintain mini-templates of the objects that are shown on the page. If I just have the mini-templates and include them from the higher-level template it becomes more difficult to look at the top-level html and imagine what the end result will look like.

  • jQuery Colorbox Iframe and Selector

    - by Joker
I have this: $("a.money").colorbox({href:$("a.money").attr("href")+" div#content"}); Which opens an overlay but only of the content within the #content selector. If I add iframe:true, this will no longer work. Is there a way to get it to work with an iframe? Edit: The closest I could get it to work was by doing this: $("a.money").colorbox({iframe:true, width:700, height:425, onComplete: function() { alert('test'); $test = $("#cboxLoadedContent iframe").contents().find("#content").html(); $("#cboxLoadedContent iframe").contents().find("#container").html($test); } }); Although without the alert it doesn't appear to work, I looked into that and I think I need to use .live(), which led me to trying this: $('a.money').live('click', function() { url = this.href; // this is the url of the element event is triggered from $.fn.colorbox({href: url, iframe:true,width:700, height:425, onComplete: function() { $test = $("#cboxLoadedContent iframe").contents().find("#content").html(); $("#cboxLoadedContent iframe").contents().find("#container").html($test); } }); return false; }); Didn't work, I still needed to add an alert to make it work. In case you might be wondering what I'm trying to do. The webpage is loaded in the iframe, with all the elements in the #container, so that includes #header, #sidebars, but I only want to show the #content inside the iframe. However, this led me to another problem I realized. Assuming I got this to work without the alert, it will only work for that initial page. For example, if I loaded up a form in the iframe, after submitting the form, I would once again see the whole layout instead of just the #content portion. Is it possible to continue only showing the #content portion of the page upon further navigation?

  • Unable to display Google Map through API in Flex SDK

    - by Spero.ShiroPetto
Hello, I am using the mxmlc to compile the examples from google to get started in using Google Maps API in Flex 4. But after compiling the swf file the map does not load. I've registered for an API key Downloaded and included the Maps SDK in the xml config file used at compile time C:\sdk\flex4\frameworks\flex-config.xml <external-library-path> <path-element>libs/google/maps/lib/map_flex_1_18.swc</path-element> </external-library-path> Foo.mxml <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" layout="absolute"> <maps:Map xmlns:maps="com.google.maps.*" id="map" mapevent_mapready="onMapReady(event)" width="100%" height="100%" key="{KEY}"/> <mx:Script> <![CDATA[ import com.google.maps.LatLng; import com.google.maps.Map; import com.google.maps.MapEvent; import com.google.maps.MapType; private function onMapReady(event:Event):void { this.map.setCenter(new LatLng(40.736072,-73.992062), 14, MapType.NORMAL_MAP_TYPE); } ]]> </mx:Script> </mx:Application> Any tips on where to go from here? I can compile a basic flex project without problem and displays the components I put in so i'd imagine it's something to do with the API Key? Thanks for the help

    - by user1891806
Iam trying to get a location (latitute and longitude), I cant figure out what Im doing wrong but my location keeps returning null. • Is there a better way to refresh WebView?

    - by cdg
    Hi all. Ok. I have looked EVERYWHERE and my little brain just can't understand a better way to refresh an activity. Any suggestions that I can understand would be great. :) Here is the java code: package com.dge.dges; import android.app.Activity; import android.content.Intent; import android.os.Bundle; import android.view.View; import android.webkit.WebView; import android.widget.Button; public class dgeActivity extends Activity { WebView mWebView; /** Called when the activity is first created. */ @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); mWebView = (WebView) findViewById(R.id.webview); mWebView.getSettings(); mWebView.loadUrl("http://www.websitehere.php"); Button newButton = (Button)findViewById(R.id.new_button); newButton.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View v) { Intent intent = new Intent(dgeActivity.this, dgeActivity.class); startActivity(intent); } }); } } And here is the main.xml <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/RelativeLayout" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:background="#000000" > <WebView android:id="@+id/webview" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:scrollbars="none" /> <Button android:id="@+id/new_button" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_alignParentBottom="true" android:layout_centerHorizontal="true" android:text="Refresh" /> </RelativeLayout> I don't like the idea of just re-stacking activity after activity. There has to be an easier way to refresh the webview. Please help. :)

  • Application lifecycle and onCreate method in the the android sdk

    - by Leif Andersen
I slapped together a simple test application that has a button, and makes a noise when the user clicks on it. Here are it's method: @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); Button b = (Button)findViewById(R.id.easy); b.setOnClickListener(this); } public void onClick(View v) { MediaPlayer mp = MediaPlayer.create(this, R.raw.easy); mp.start(); while(true) { if (!mp.isPlaying()) { mp.release(); break; } } } My question is, why is onCreate acting like it's in a while loop? I can click on the button whenever, and it makes the sound. I might think it was just a property of listeners, but the Button object wasn't a member variable. I thought that Android would just go through onCreate onse, and proceed onto the next lifecycle method. Also, I know that my current way of seeing if the sound is playing is crap...I'll get to that later. :) Thank you.

  • Adding a font for use in ReportLab

    - by Jimmy McCarthy
I'm trying to add a font to the python ReportLab so that I can use it for a function. The function is using canvas.Canvas to draw a bunch of text in a PDF, nothing complicated, but I need to add a fixed width font for layout issues. When I tried to register a font using what little info I could find, that seemed to work. But when I tried to call .addFont('fontname') from my Canvas object I keep getting "PDFDocument instance has no attribute 'addFont'" Is the function just not implemented? How do I get access to fonts other than the 10 or so default ones that are listed in .getAvailableFonts? Thanks. Some example code of what I'm trying to make happen: from reportlab.pdfgen import canvas c = canvas.Canvas('label.pdf') c.addFont('TestFont') #This throws the error listed above, regardless of what argument I use (whether it refers to a font or not). c.drawString(1,1,'test data here') c.showPage() c.save() To register the font, I tried from reportlab.lib.fonts import addMapping from reportlab.pdfbase import pdfmetrics pdfmetrics.registerFont(TTFont('TestFont', 'ghettomarquee.ttf')) addMapping('TestFont', 0, 0, 'TestFont') where 'ghettomarquee.ttf' was just a random font I had lying around.

  • UITableViewCells of different heights place their accessoryViews at different X positions

    - by Jasarien
Hey Guys, My app has some table cells that vary in height. The cells can also have a UIButton set to be a detail disclosure button (round, blue with arrow) as their accessory view. Depending on the height of the cell, the accessory view is positioned differently. At first I thought it was my layout code for my cell that was causing the problem, so I set up a quick independent test that uses vanilla UITableCells to remove the possibility that it could be my fault. I set up a view in interface builder, and just added a view table cells to the view, set their heights to different values and then added a detail disclosure button to each. Nothing more, nothing less. This is what I see: I added the size guides (thanks to Xscope) so you can see the difference in the accessory view x positions. The heights are: top 37px mid 68px bottom 44px (default, untouched height) If I increase the height any heigher than 68px the accessory view doesn't move any further to the left. Is this a bug? Is there any way I can prevent this from happening?

  • DOJO : How do you reinitiate form elements after ajax call ?

    - by Dural
I'm trying to do a couple of things using Zend Framework & Dojo Toolkit, and any help would be appreciated. Here's the problem: I have a form that is rendered with the Zend Framework form class, which has an ajax radio button selection. Clicking one of these radio buttons will send an ajax request to another controller, which has no layout, just a rendered form. The ajax request will then populate a div with the new form options. Problem is, when I replace the innerHTML of the div with the ajax response, all the form inputs and elements are not inheriting the same Dojo styling and form validation. I was wondering if there is a way to reinitate form elements after an ajax call? I have tried to use the code attached which I found and modified slightly for this example, however it did not work. If I use the line dojo.parser.parse( div ); nothing changes (rg_adress in the example is the ID of a form element that is placed on the DOM). Here is the console.log of rg_address: <input type="text" dojotype="dijit.form.ValidationTextBox" required="1" invalidmessage="The first name of the recipient" value="" name="rg_address" id="rg_address" class="textbox"/> onClick=' dojo.xhrGet( { url: "/transfer/newrecipient/", handleAs: "text", timeout: 10000, // Time in milliseconds // The LOAD function will be called on a successful response. load: function(response, ioArgs) { $("#newRecipient").html(response); $("#newPayMethod").html(""); $("#newPayDetail").html(""); var div = dojo.byId("rg_address"); console.log( div ); dojo.parser.parse( div ); return response; }, // The ERROR function will be called in an error case. error: function(response, ioArgs) { $("#newRecipient").html("Error loading registration form"); $("#newPayMethod").html(""); $("#newPayDetail").html(""); return response; } });' Thanks, Dural

  • How to disable vertical bounce/scroll on iPhone in a mobile web application

    - by Kasper Skov
As the title says, i need to disable vertical bounce on iphone on my mobile web form application. Ive tried alot of different things, but most of them disables my form or horizontal scroll and bounce as well. Any ideas? Im using jquery.mobile btw :) Update: I actually managed to get the code from the first answer working somewhat: function stopScrolling( touchEvent ) { touchEvent.preventDefault(); } document.addEventListener( 'touchstart' , stopScrolling , false ); document.addEventListener( 'touchmove' , stopScrolling , false ); The reason why I couldnt get it to work in the first place, was that there actually was some margin on my body (stupid me). But. As the layout is fluid and im using jquery.mobile and have <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1, maximum-scale=1"> in the header (I think) it doesnt work properly. The page is zoomed out (view from like a desktop browser) and zooming is disabled. Without the code, the page scales perfectly right from an 50" tv to the smallest nokia on the planet. Am I doing something wrong? Im starting to think the problem is caused by the body/content somehow being over 100% of the viewport. No idea how though.

  • Clarification needed: How does .NET runtime resolve assembly references from parent folder?

    - by aoven
I have the following output structure of executables in my solution: %ProgramFiles% | +-[MyAppName] | +-[Client] | | | +-(EXE & several DLL assemblies) | +-[Common] | | | +-[Schema Assemblies] | | | | | +-(several DLL assemblies) | | | +-(several DLL assemblies) | +-[Server] | +-(EXE & several DLL assemblies) Each project in solution references different DLL assemblies, some of which are outputs from other projects in solution, and others are plain 3rd-party assemblies. For example, [Client] EXE might reference an assembly in [Common], which is in a different directory branch. All references have "Copy Local" set to false, to mirror the layout of the files in the final installed application. Now, if I take a look at reference properties in the Visual Studio IDE, I see that "Path" of every reference is absolute and that it corresponds to the actual output location of the assembly. That's understandable and correct. As expected, solution compiles and runs just fine. What I don't understand is, why everything seems to work even when I close the IDE, rename the [MyAppName] directory and run the [Client] EXE manually? How does the runtime find the assemblies if the reference paths aren't the same as they were at the time of linking? To be clear - this is actually exactly what I'm after: a semi-dispersed set of application files that run fine regardless of where the [MyAppName] directory is located or even what it's named. I'd just like to know, how and why this works without any specific path resolution on my part. I've read the answers to this similar question, but I still don't get it. Help much appreciated!

  • Serializing MDI Winforms for persistency

    - by Serge
Hello, basically my project is an MDI Winform application where a user can customize the interface by adding various controls and changing the layout. I would like to be able to save the state of the application for each user. I have done quite a bit of searching and found these: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2076259/how-to-auto-save-and-auto-load-all-properties-in-winforms-c http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1669522/c-save-winform-or-controls-to-file Basically from what I understand, the best approach is to serialize the data to XML, however winform controls are not serializable, so I would have use surrogate classes: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/dotnet/Surrogate_Serialization.aspx Now, do I need to write a surrogate class for each of my controls? I would need to write some sort of a recursive algorithm to save all my controls, what is the best approach to do accomplish that? How would I then restore all the windows, should I use the memento design pattern for that? If I want to implement multiple users later, should I use Nhibernate to store all the object data in a database? I am still trying to wrap my head around the problem and if anyone has any experience or advice I would greatly appreciate it, thanks.

  • QueryReadStore loads JSON into DataGrid, but JsonRestStore does not (from the same source)

    - by labratmatt
I'm building a Dojo DataGrid from JSON data provided by my REST interface. The DataGrid loads the data fine using a QueryReadStore, but doesn't seem to work with the same same data piped into a JsonRestStore. I'm using the following Dojo libs with Dojo 1.4.1: dojo.require("dojox.data.JsonRestStore"); dojo.require("dojox.grid.DataGrid"); dojo.require("dojox.data.QueryReadStore"); dojo.require("dojo.parser"); I declare my stores in the following manner: var storeJRS = new dojox.data.JsonRestStore({target:"api/collaborations.php/1", idAttribute: 'items[].id'}); var storeQRS = new dojox.data.QueryReadStore({url:"api/collaborations.php/1", requestMethod:"get"}); I create my grid layout like this: var gridLayout = [ new dojox.grid.cells.RowIndex({ name: "Row #", width: 5, styles: "text-align: left;" }), { name: "Name", field: "name", styles: "text-align:right;", width:20 }, { name: "Description", field: "description", width:30 } ]; I create my DataGrid as follows: The above works, but if I use QueryReadStore as my store, the grid is created with the headers (Name, Description), but it isn't populated with any rows: <div dojoType="dojox.grid.DataGrid" jsid="grid3" store="storeQRS" structure="gridLayout" style="height:500px; width:1000px;"></div> Using FireBug, I can see that QueryReadStore is getting my JSON data from my REST interface. It looks like the following: {"numRows":6,"items":[{"name":"My Super Cool Collab","description":"This is for all the super cool people in the super cool group","id":1},{"name":"My Other Super Cool","description":"This is for all the other super cool people","id":3},{"name":"This is another coll","description":"This is just some other collab","id":4},{"name":"some new collab","description":"this is a new collab","id":5},{"name":"yet another new coll","description":"uh huh","id":6},{"name":"asdf","description":"asdf","id":7}]} Any ideas? Thanks.

  • Modelling Business Logic with NON-Techies

    - by cbmeeks
The setup: Winform/ASP.NET MVC projects. Learning NHibernate SQL-Server driven apps I work with clients that have no idea how to model an application. That's what I'm for. However, we have lots of conflicts with validation, mis-understandings, etc. For example, the client will ask for an order entry screen. The screen should require a "product". That's fine and dandy. However, the client didn't know to tell me that the user can't order a product of "Class A" unless it's Tuesday. Or, they need a time entry screen. 2 days before it's rolled into production, they casually forgot to mention that certain activities are only valid for certain situations. These situations being a week of coding. That's of course, some crude examples (not by much!). But the problem is getting these non-technical clients to layout their business logic. They somehow didn't realize that the "Class A" problem would come up two weeks later, etc. I'm all for agile programming but is there an easy way to somehow make business logic like this extremely easy to implement and change on almost a daily basis? I of course am splitting the project into hopefully intelligent pieces, using NHibernate, etc. But making this BI logic so dynamic is really making it hard to project timelines, etc. Any suggestions? I know there will never be a perfect client (or a perfect provider) but how do you guys deal with the constant mis-understandings? Thanks.

  • HTML Frameset with just one frame and a body

    - by arik-so
Hello, I am trying to create the following layout: an HTML file with a body, that has a certain width, and a frame, that fills the rest, so, more or less like this: <frameset cols="150px,*"> <body></body> <frame src="source.html" /> </frameset> The thing is, I need the body to have a certain width, not wider, but I also need its elements to be free to move OUTSIDE the body, over the frame, without creating a scrollbar. And I really need the body to be of limited width and the frame to fill the rest. Thanks in advance! EDIT: Okay, I will try to rephrase my problem. What I need, is something that I can put in to the frameset, that is like a border, BUT that is rendered on the main page, and not from a source, something where I can write directly and whose elements can overlap the other frame. I have tried using <noframes> but to no avail...

Hello, My user model has three relations for the same message model, and is using raw SQL :/ Is there a better more rails way to achieve the same result? Could the foreign key be changed dynamically? e.g User.messages.sent (foreign key = author_id) and User.messages.received (foreign key = recipient ) I have been trying to move some of the logic into scopes in the message model, but the user.id is not available from the message model... Any thoughts? Table layout: create_table "messages", :force => true do |t| t.string "subject" t.text "body" t.datetime "created_at" t.datetime "updated_at" t.integer "author_id" t.integer "recipient_id" t.boolean "author_deleted", :default => false t.boolean "recipient_deleted", :default => false end This is my relations for my user model: has_many :messages_received, :foreign_key => "recipient_id", :class_name => "Message", :conditions => ['recipient_deleted = ?', false] has_many :messages_sent, :foreign_key => "author_id", :class_name => "Message", :conditions => ['author_deleted = ?', false] has_many :messages_deleted, :class_name => "Message", :finder_sql => 'SELECT * FROM Messages WHERE author_id = #{self.id} AND author_deleted = true OR recipient_id = #{self.id} AND recipient_deleted = true' Best regards. • Getting a "No default module defined for this application" exception while running controller unit t

    - by Doron
    I have an application with the default directory structure, for an application without custom modules (see structure figure at the end). I have written a ControllerTestCase.php file as instructed in many tutorials, and I've created the appropriate bootstrap file as well (once again, see figures at the end). I've written some model tests which run just fine, but when I started writing the index controller test file, with only one test in it, with only one line in it ("$this-dispatch('/');"), I'm getting the following exception when running phpunit (but navigating with the browser to the same location - all is good and working): 1) IndexControllerTest::test_indexAction_noParams Zend_Controller_Exception: No default module defined for this application Why is this ? What have I done wrong ? Appendixes: Directory structure: -proj/ -application/ -controllers/ -IndexController.php -ErrorController.php -config/ -layouts/ -models/ -views/ -helpers/ -scripts/ -error/ -error.phtml -index/ -index.phtml -Bootstrap.php -library/ -tests/ -application/ -controllers/ -IndexControllerTest.php -models/ -bootstrap.php -ControllerTestCase.php -library/ -phpunit.xml -public/ -index.php (Basically I have some more files in the models directory, but that's not relevant to this question.) application.ini file: [production] phpSettings.display_startup_errors = 0 phpSettings.display_errors = 0 includePaths.library = APPLICATION_PATH "/../library" bootstrap.path = APPLICATION_PATH "/Bootstrap.php" bootstrap.class = "Bootstrap" appnamespace = "My" resources.frontController.controllerDirectory = APPLICATION_PATH "/controllers" resources.frontController.params.displayExceptions = 0 resources.layout.layoutPath = APPLICATION_PATH "/layouts/scripts/" resources.view[] = phpSettings.date.timezone = "America/Los_Angeles" [staging : production] [testing : production] phpSettings.display_startup_errors = 1 phpSettings.display_errors = 1 [development : production] phpSettings.display_startup_errors = 1 phpSettings.display_errors = 1 resources.frontController.params.displayExceptions = 1 tests/application/bootstrap.php file <?php error_reporting(E_ALL); // Define path to application directory defined('APPLICATION_PATH') || define('APPLICATION_PATH', realpath(dirname(__FILE__) .   • Android - Dealing with a Dialog on Screen Orientation change

    - by Donal Rafferty
I am overriding the onCreateDialog and onPrepareDialog methods or the Dialog class. I have followed the example from Reto Meier's Professional Android Application Development book, Chapter 5 to pull some XML data and then use a dialog to display the info. I have basically followed it exactly but changed the variables to suit my own XML schema as follows: @Override public Dialog onCreateDialog(int id) { switch(id) { case (SETTINGS_DIALOG) : LayoutInflater li = LayoutInflater.from(this); View settingsDetailsView = li.inflate(R.layout.details, null); AlertDialog.Builder settingsDialog = new AlertDialog.Builder(this); settingsDialog.setTitle("Provisioned Settings"); settingsDialog.setView(settingsDetailsView); return settingsDialog.create(); } return null; } @Override public void onPrepareDialog(int id, Dialog dialog) { switch(id) { case (SETTINGS_DIALOG) : String afpunText = " "; if(setting.getAddForPublicUserNames() == 1){ afpunText = "Yes"; } else{ afpunText = "No"; } String Text = "Login Settings: " + "\n" + "Password: " + setting.getPassword() + "\n" + "Server: " + setting.getServerAddress() + "\n"; AlertDialog settingsDialog = (AlertDialog)dialog; settingsDialog.setTitle(setting.getUserName()); tv = (TextView)settingsDialog.findViewById(R.id.detailsTextView); if (tv != null) tv.setText(Text); break; } } It works fine until I try changing the screen orientation, When I do this onPrepareDialog gets call but I get null pointer exceptions on all my variables. The error still occurs even when I tell my activity to ignore screen orientation in the manifest. So I presume something has been left out of the example in the book do I need to override another method to save my variables in or something?

  • Merging datasets based on 2 variables in SAS.

    - by John
Hye Guys, my question is the following, i'm working with different databases, all contain information about 1000+ companies, a company is defined by its ticker code (the short version of the name( Ford as F) usually seen on stock quotation boards). Aside from the ticker code to merge on I also have to merge on the time, I used month as a count variable throughout my time series. The final purpose is to have a regression in the kind of Y(jt) = c + X(jt) +X1(jt) etc with j = company (ticker) and t = time (month). So imagine I have 2 databases, one which is the base database with variables such as Tickers, months, beta's of a company (risk measure) etc and a second database which has an extra variable (let's say market capitalisation). What I want to do then is to merge these 2 databases based on the ticker and the month. Example: Base database: Ticker __ Month __ Betas AA __ 4 __ 1.2 BB __ 8 __ 1.18 Second database: Ticker __ Month __ MCAP AA __ 4 __ 8542 BB __ 6 __ 1245 Then after merge I would like to have something like this: Ticker __ Month _ Betas ___ MCAP AA __ 4 _ 1.2 ___ 8542 So all observations that do not match BOTH date and ticker have to be dropped, I'm sure this is possible, just can't find the right type of code. Thanks! PS: I'm guessing the underscars have something to do with font layout but both the bold as italic is supposed to be normal :)
