  • Need an engine for MMO mockup

    What I don't need is an MMORPG engine, at the moment. What I do need is a flexible easy-to-use engine that I can make a mock-up with. I don't need support for more than 10 players in an instance, so any multiplayer platform is probably fine. I need an engine with which I can create the following core features: Waves of simple AI enemies that have specific objectives (move to point A, destroy target, move to point B). The units present can be between 50-200 in number. An over-the-shoulder view and the ability to control a team of 3 (like Mass Effect or the latest Dragon Age) Functioning inventory system Right now, all I can really think of is Unreal or Source. Any other suggestions? Again, this is a proving mock-up, not an actual MMO. I'm not terribly worried about the visual aspects as we just want to test mechanics. Note: Can write some scripts in Python, Ruby, or Lua, if necessary.

  • Should I understand SVN before I jump to GIT?

    I work in a department where no one has ever used source control before, including myself. I am trying to push the concept. I have spent a little while researching SVN. I some basics learned. I can Create/update/checkout/commit with command line and from Tortoise. I am starting to learn how to tag and branch but still confused a lot about conflicts between branches and trunk etc. I am still learning, but I do not have a physical person who can show me anything. Its all from books/tutorials and trial and error. From what I have read online it seems like git is the better thing to know, but its also more complicated. I don't want to overwhelm myself. Should I continue to master svn before moving to git or would I be wiser to just jump to git now? Are there pros and cons to both approaches?

    For some reason YouTube videos in my website do not get the fullscreen button, even if I added the parameter allowFullScreen set to true both in the object and embed tag. Here's an example page: http://www.indievault.it/2011/11/09/indie-vault-alla-games-week-2011-online-la-video-gallery/ Just take a quick look at the source. The allowFullScreen param is there, but the button won't show.   • Dual monitor Unity launcher opening on wrong monitor in 11.10

    I just upgraded to Oneiric and now the Unity Dash launcher is on my left screen. I really want it on my right screen. But how do I do that? Why do I want the Dash on my right screen? My left screen is a smaller older monitor that I use to read/watch documentation or keep my music player open. I work on my right screen, that is bigger and is a better monitor. I have an Nvidia card and in the nvidia settings it is setup that the right monitor is my primary monitor, but Oneiric doesn't follow this setting anymore. I thought this was a bug, but is seems to be intended behavior... https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/742544 Some poster in this thread explains that he "patched it locally", but I have no idea how to do this. Does somebody know how to do this? Or maybe there is another solution?

  • Flowmotion Running on Ubuntu Server [migrated]

    I am trying to configure Flowmotion to work on my Ubuntu Server. At present I use LAMP to serve pages from a Virtualbox installation. I will be moving this to a dedicated server but would like to enable true streaming of videos using this installation. I am only interested in open source streaming for a research project and although I have installed Flowmotion via apt-get I don't know how to start the service so that embedded videos located on the server will stream. Can anybody provide any information regarding this or online resources I may have missed? I have checked the documentation however if appears far too complex. Just clarify I'm running VirtualBox 4.2.1 on Mac OSX 10.6.8 and Ubuntu Server 12.06 64-bit

  • Oh Unity Launcher scrambled with color dots after log on or restart

    The left hand side Unity launch bar is color scrambled after reboot, or log on. When touching it with the mouse arrow, it comes back to normal. I installed gnome shell color before this started happening. I will uninstall gnome shell color & see if this problem goes away. Any one ever see this happen. I run a Nvidia 550ti ge-force graphic card. I have the latest 295.33 driver from Nvidia installed and it does show activated in my restricted driver window. Oh yeah, before you inform me, I can tell you that yes, I do see the instructions to report bugs to the correct source. But I really don't know if this is a bug or not. Could be something else.

    I'm generating a like button with Facebook's 'standard' layout for my site via https://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/like/ . I've set its width to 200 pixels, but notice that setting it to lower than 225 pixels has no effect, and the documentation on that page indeed specifies 225px as the minimum width for the standard layout. Unfortunately I need to make it 200 pixels wide to fit my site's design. Is there any way to force it into this width? (The site's at http://gwwc2.centreforeffectivealtruism.org/ if you want to have a play with Firebug, though the like button gets generated by javascript so you'd probably have to duplicate that page and edit its source.)

Now multiple documents can be opened at the same time, either from "File | Open File" or from the File Browser (i.e., the rebranded Favorites window). Multiple tabs are available at the same time, each representing a different open document. Click a different tab and its document is activated and brought to the front of the application.     I would like to analyse a set of hundreds of thousands of product images (clothing, electronic goods etc) and retrieve the dominant colours in each. I'm only interested in the top 3 or 4 colours. The aim is to achieve a degree of certainty that x image is mostly red or image y is mostly orange and blue. The images are likely to be colour jpegs of reasonable quality and approximately 100kb in size. I would like to use C# and the solution should run on a Linux server, preferably using open source libraries. Would opencv be a good choice for this? What other libraries or specific algorithms might be helpful?

    I just thought I’d give readers a heads up that you can use Classic Shell to get the old Windows 7 style of start menu back instead of using the new crappy Windows 8 metro start screen; plus it’s free and open source .  You can still access the metro start screen with Shift+WindowsKey or Shift clicking the start menu button.  This program also defaults to showing the desktop on startup instead of the metro start screen (but that can be disabled), and is super configurable and has tons of options to tweak it just the way you want if you are picky like me   The only thing I would say is when installing the app, only install the Classic Start Menu; you don’t need the other ones.     I'm trying to run an old netbook with Broadcom BCM4313 wireless as a print server with Ubuntu Server 12.04. Setting up the wireless without the GUI, however, is proving problematic. I do think however I've narrowed down the problem. I've tried both the wl driver (from bcmwl-kernel-source) as well as the (included) brcmsmac driver. With both of them, when I issue the command iwlist wlan0 scanning (eth1 for wl), I only see neighbouring networks- not my own. I believe this might be because my networks are n-only, but my neighbouring networks are mixed mode (I suspect this because the output of iwlist wlan0 scanning shows "Bit Rates" only as high as 54 Mb/s). Any ideas how to go about getting this thing to connect?

The current vertex declaration does not include all the elements required by the current vertex shader. TextureCoordinate0 is missing. I tried pluging my model into their original source code and same thing. My model is an fbx from blender and has a texture.
