The first Sangam conference was in 2009 and the AppsUX team has been involved with the conference and user group membership since 2011. New - How to Automate The Installation of Oracle Solaris Cluster 4.0 Thanks to the new image packaging architecture in Oracle Solaris 11, you can now automate the installation of Oracle Solaris Cluster 4.0. Why is that such a big deal? As Lucia Lai explains it: "Without the AI, you would have to manually install the cluster components on the cluster nodes, and then run the scinstall tool to add the nodes to the cluster. If, instead, you use the AI, both the Oracle Solaris 11 and the Oracle Solaris Cluster 4.0 packages are installed onto the cluster nodes directly from Image Packaging System (IPS) repositories, and the nodes are booted into a new cluster with minimum user intervention." • help with migrating from Widows, x64 FGLRX, CPU load, Java and Minecraft

  Im new to ubuntu, it is the second time i have installed it. This comp is Dell studio 1558. some specs: CPU- intel core i7 Q720 1.6GHz, GPU- ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5400 FGLRX- i've fallowed these instructions among inspecting many others, i have tried all of the variants mentioned in that tread before reverting back to the drivers supplied with Ubuntu ( through additional drivers ) which apparently seem to work best. i am testing them with minecraft as silly as it may sound. in 2 to 60 minutes the FPS drop from 70+ to somewhere between 0 and 5. while "fgl_glxgears" runs at between 400 and 800 FPS smoothly.. I am using oracle ( sun ) JRE6 to run minecraft, i have gotten it through a tutorial linked on oracle's website, i currently have no other version of java installed ( was worse when i had a few others here ). after closing the game Ubuntu is similarly slow, i've checked the CPU load using System Monitor and it shows one of the CPU's jumping to 80%~100% load at a time.. a reboot solves it. i realize my mess is up to me to solve but a hand is always appreciated. tyvm in advance.

• How do I stop video tearing? (Nvidia prop driver, non-compositing window manager)

  I have that problem which seemingly afflicts many using the proprietary Nvidia driver: Video tearing: fine horizontal lines (usually near the top of my display) when there is a lot of panning or action in the video. (Note: switching back to the default nouveau driver is not an option, as its seemingly nonexistent power-management drains my battery several times faster) I've tried Totem, Parole, and VLC, and tearing occurs with all of them. The best result has been to use X11 output in VLC, but there is still tearing with relatively moderate action. Hardware: MacBook Air 3,2 -- which has an Nvidia GeForce 320M. There are two common fixes for tearing with Nvidia prop drivers: Turn off compositing, since Nvidia proprietary drivers don't usually play nice with compositing window managers on Linux (Compiz is an exception I'm aware of). But I use an extremely lightweight window manager (Awesome window manager) which is not even capable of compositing (or any cool effects). I also have this problem in Xfce, where I have compositing disabled. Enabling sync to VBlank. To enable this, I set the option in nvidia-settings and then autostart it as nvidia-settings -l with my other autostart programs. This seems to work, because when I run glxgears, I get: $ glxgears Running synchronized to the vertical refresh. The framerate should be approximately the same as the monitor refresh rate. 303 frames in 5.0 seconds = 60.500 FPS 300 frames in 5.0 seconds = 59.992 FPS And when I check the refresh rate using nvidia-settings: $ nvidia-settings -q RefreshRate Attribute 'RefreshRate' (wampum:0.0; display device: DFP-2): 60.00 Hz. All this suggests sync to VBlank is enabled. As I understand it, this is precisely designed to stop tearing, and a lot of people's problem is even getting something like glxgears to output the correct info.   Hi, Example code is included at the bottom of the message. I'm puzzled about the protected access specifier in a class. I have define a class node which has a protected string member name string name; and a vector of node pointers vector args; Before I thought that a member function of node could not do args[0]-name but a program that does just this does compile and run. However, now I would like to inherit this class and access the name field in one of the args array pointers from this derived class args[0]-name but this does not compile. When I compile the example code below with the commented sections uncommented, the compiler reports: Compiler output: g++ test.cc -o test test.cc: In member function 'void foo::newnode::print_args2()': test.cc:22: error: 'std::string foo::node::name' is protected test.cc:61: error: within this context Compilation exited abnormally with code 1 at Thu Jun 17 12:40:12 Questions: Why can I access the name field of the node pointers in args in class node, because this is what I would excpect from a similarly defined private field in Java. How can I access those fields from the derived class. • New functionality in TFS Build Manager &ndash; Managing Triggers and Build Resources

  Yesterday we pushed out a new release (August 2012) of the Community TFS Build Extension, including a new version of the Community TFS Build Manager (1.0.4.6) The two big new features in the Build Manager in this release are: Set Triggers It is now possible to select one or more build definitions and update the triggers for them in one simple operation: You’ll note that we have started collapsing the context menu a bit, the list of commands are getting long! When selecting the Trigger command, you’ll see a dialog where the options should be self-explanatory: The only thing missing here is the Scheduled trigger option, you’ll have to do that using Team Explorer for now.   Manage Build Resources The other feature is that it is now possible to view the build controllers and agents in your current collection and also perform some actions against them. The new functionality is available by select the Build Resources item in the drop down menu: Selecting this, you’ll see a (sort of) hierarchical view of the build controllers and their agents: In this view you can quickly see all the resources and their status. You can also view the build directory of each build agent and the tags that are associated with them. On the action menu, you can enable and disable both agents and controllers (several at a time), and you can also select to remove them. By selecting Manage, you’ll be presented with the standard Manage Controller dialog from Visual Studio where you can set the rest of the properties. Hopefully we’ll be able to implement most of the existing functionality so that we can remove that menu option Our plan is to add more functionality to this view, such as adding new agents/controllers, restarting build service hosts, maybe view diagnostic information such as disk space and error logs.   Hope you’ll find the new functionality useful. • [Qt] How to get rid of OCI.dll dependency when compiling static

  Hi, My application accesses an Oracle database through Qt's QSqlDatabase class. I'm compiling Qt as static for the release build, but I can't seem to be able to get rid of OCI.dll dependency. I'm trying to link against oci.lib (as available in Oracle's Instant Client with SDK). Here's my configure line : configure -qt-libjpeg -qt-zlib -qt-libpng -nomake examples -nomake demos -no-exceptions -no-stl -no-rtti -no-qt3support -no-scripttools -no-openssl -no-opengl -no-phonon -no-style-motif -no-style-cde -no-style-cleanlooks -no-style-plastique -static -release -opensource -plugin-sql-oci -plugin-sql-sqlite -platform win32-msvc2005 I link against oci.h and oci.lib in the SDK's folder by using : set INCLUDE=C:\oracle\instantclient\sdk\include;%INCLUDE% set LIB=C:\oracle\instantclient\sdk\lib\msvc;%LIB% Then, once Qt is compiled, I use the following lines in my *.pro file : QT += sql CONFIG += static LIBS += C:\oracle\instantclient\sdk\lib\msvc\oci.lib QTPLUGIN += qsqloci Then, in my main.cpp, I add the following commands to statically compile OCI plugin in the application : #include <QtPlugin> Q_IMPORT_PLUGIN(qsqloci) After compiling the project, I test it on my workstation and it works (as I have Oracle Instant Client installed). When I try on another workstation, I always get the message: This application has failed to start because OCI.dll was not found. Re-installing this application may fix this problem. I don't understand why I still need OCI.dll, as my statically linked application is supposed to link to oci.lib instead. Is there any Qt people here that might have a solution for me ? Thanks a lot ! You can access the database as the anonymous user by clicking on the link provided at the bottom of the page.   I am using Fantacy Remote to remote view other machines. I have attached the default .INI file that Fantacy Remote uses. When i connect to a machine, the client user should not have mouse and keyboard access of the Remote machine. It should be a View only remote connection. And i want to make the Remote viewer screen to be in full screen mode, because i dont want the user to do anything with menubars of Fatancy remote. Because this is kiosk application. • SPWeb.Url returns wrong URL

  I have a web application in SharePoint that has been extended to another zone (Extranet). The access URL for the default zone is http ://server1, and the URL for the extranet zone is https: //www.server1.com. Now, when I access the site via the extranet zone, I find that SPContext.Current.Web.Url returns http ://server1. I would have expected https ://www.server1.com, since that's how I'm accessing the site. What am I doing wrong?
