• Output to jTextArea in realtime

  I have some code which takes a few minutes to process, it has to connect to the web for each string in a long array, each string is a url. • Receiving generic typed <T> custom objects through remote object in Flex

  Is it possible to receive custom generic typed objects through AMF? I'm trying to integrate a flex app with an existing C# service but flex is choking on custom generic typed objects. As far as I can tell Flex doesn't even support generics, but I'd like to be able to even just read in the object and cast its members as necessary. I basically just want flex to ignore the <T>. I'm hopeful that there's a way to do this, since flex doesn't complain about typed collections (a server call returning List works fine and flex converts it to an ArrayCollection just like an un-typed List). Here's a trimmed down example of what's going on for me: The custom C# typed class public class TypeTest<T> { public T value { get; set; } public TypeTest () { } } The server method returning the typeTest public TypeTest<String> doTypeTest() { TypeTest<String> theTester = new TypeTest<String>("grrrr"); return theTester; } The corresponding flex value object: [RemoteClass(alias="API.Model.TypeTest")] public class TypeTest { private var _value:Object; public function get value():Object { return _value; } public function set value(theValue:Object):void { _value = value; } public function TypeTest() { } } and the result handler code: public function doTypeTest(result:TypeTest):void { var theString:String = result.value as String; trace(theString); } When the result handler is called I get the runtime error: TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert mx.utils::ObjectProxy@11a98041 to com.model.vos.TypeTest. Irritatingly if I change the result handler to take parameter of type Object it works fine. Anyone know how to make this work with the value object? I feel like i'm missing something really obvious.

Generics always confuse me, so I wrote some code to exercise the sample. ". Yet, the follwing code: int utf8len(char* s) { Glib::ustring us(s); int i=0; for (Glib::ustring::iterator p = us.begin(); p != us.end(); p++) i++; return i; } compiles and works fine. according the Glib::ustring documentation and the include file, ustring iterator can be constructed from std::string iterator, and has operator++() defined. Weird? BONUS QUESTION :) Is there a difference in C++ between the 2 ways of defining a variable: classname ob1( initval ); classname ob1 = initval; I believed that they are synonymous; yet, if I change Glib::ustring::iterator p( string::iterator(s) ); to Glib::ustring::iterator p = string::iterator(s); I get a compiler error (gcc 4.1.2) conversion from ‘__gnu_cxx::__normal_iterator, std::allocator ’ to non-scalar type ‘Glib::ustring_Iterator<__gnu_cxx::__normal_iterator, std::allocator ’ requesed thanks a lot!

  I have a script that lets the user upload text files (PDF or doc) to the server, then the plan is to convert them to raw text. But until the file is converted, it's in its raw format, which makes me worried about viruses and all kinds of nasty things. Any ideas what I need to do to minimize the risk of these unknown files. How to check if it's clean, or if it's even the format it claims to be and that it does not crash the server.

• Axis webservice calls fail sometimes, access.log shows content!

  Hi, our app is a webservice client (axis 1) to a third party webservice (also axis 1). We use it for some years now. Since a few weeks, we (as a client) get sometimes HTTP status 400 (bad request) or read timeouts when calling the webservice. Strangely, the access.log of the service shows part of the request or the response instead of the URL.   I know the title is a bit confusing but bare with me. (I'm up for suggestions on a new title lol) I'm writing a TemplateEngine that will allow me to use my own markup in text based files. I'm wanting to add controls as plugins as the application matures. Currently i've got a structure like the following: interface IControl string Id object Value class Label : IControl string Id string Value class Repeater : IControl string Id List<IControl> Value Now you'll see the strange part right away in the Repeater class with the Value property. I was hoping that having the Value type as object in the interface would allow me the flexibility to expand the controls as i go along. The compiler doesn't like this and for good reason i guess. Does anyone have any suggestions how to accomplish this? Note: Please don't go into suggesting things like use Spark View Engine for templating. There is a reason i'm creating extra work for myself.

• Setting the initial value of a property when using DataContractSerializer

  If I am serializing and later deserializing a class using DataContractSerializer how can I control the initial values of properties that were not serialized? Consider the Person class below. Its data contract is set to serialize the FirstName and LastName properties but not the IsNew property. I want IsNew to initialize to TRUE whether a new Person is being instantiate as a new instance or being deserialized from a file. This is easy to do through the constructor, but as I understand it DataContractSerializer does not call the constructor as they could require parameters. • Strings exported from a module have changed line breaks

  In a DrScheme project, I'm using a MrEd editor-canvas% with text% and inserting a string from a literal in a Scheme file. This results in an extra blank line in the editor for each line of text I'm trying to insert. I've tracked this down to the apparent fact that string literals from outside modules are getting extra line breaks. Here's a full example. I cannot beleive that the word wrapping information (how many lines are there, where are the line breaks) cannot be extracted from the JTextArea. Now I get a popup asking me where to save it, but I would like it to save it under a default name and path AND encoded in UTF-8.   Hi, On my MOSS site I am trying to save a publishing site as a site template. Then create subsites from this template. I am able to sucessfully create the site template and it is populated in the site template gallery.   We develop an established software which works fine on all known computers except one. The problem is to parse strings that begin with "8". It seems like "8" in the beginning of a string is a reserved character. Parsing: int.Parse("8") -> Exception message: Input string was not in a correct format. int.Parse("80") -> 0 int.Parse("88") -> 8 int.Parse("8100") -> 100 CurrentCulture: sv-SE CurrentUICulture: en-US The problem is solved using int.Parse("8", CultureInfo.InvariantCulture). However, it would be nice to know the source of the problem. Question: Why do we get this behaviour of "8" if we don't specify invariant culture? • C# DateTime Class and Datetime in database

  Hello . I have the following problem. I have an object with some DateTime properties , and a Table in database that I store all that objects , in Sql server I want to store the DateTime properties in some columns of DateTime Datatype, but the format of datetime in sql server is different from the DateTime class in c# and I got an sql exception saying "DateTime cannot be parsed". I know how to solve this by making the format yyyy-MM-dd but is this the proper and best solution to do this?

Does my program do not see the palyersNames?
