• Git append the current commit hash to result of a commit command

  I want to append the hash of the ongoing commit to its result. I can retrieve the hash using this command: git log --format=%H | tail -1 Then I try to merge a commit with command above and make an alias in '.gitconfig', like this: [alias] ci = !git commit && git log --format=%H | tail -1 But this does not work; parameters of alias are send to tail command, not git commit. How should I create this alias?

• Datagridview error

  I have two datagridviews. So for the second one, i just copy-pasted the code from the first and changed where the difference was. But i get an error at the secod data grid when i want to view the result of my sql code. Translated in english the error show something like that there was no value given to at least one required parameter.   I'm having a problem with counting which is continuation of this question. I am not really a math person so it's really hard for me to figure out this subset sum problem which was suggested as resolution. I'm adding numbers to ArrayList like 156, 340 (when it is TransferIn or Buy) etc and then i remove them doing it like 156, 340 (when it's TransferOut, Sell). My solution works for that without a problem. The problem I have is that for some old data employees were entering sum's like 1500 instead of 500+400+100+500. How would I change it so that when there's Sell/TransferOut or Buy/Transfer In and there's no match inside ArrayList it should try to add multiple items from thatArrayList and find elements that combine into aggregate. Even Object[] foo = out.get(0); would throw an ClassCastException :(

• Enabling/Disabling Aero from a Windows Service

  I have some code to enable/disable the Windows Aero service in Vista, and I would like to run it in a Windows Service. The code works in a standalone application, but when I run it from a Service, nothing happens. No errors or exceptions are thrown. I realise that running code in a service is a different scope than running code in an application, but in this case, how would I enable/disable Aero from the service? Is this even possible? It sets the window station and desktop, and it seems to be correct, but the call to DwmEnableComposition results in the same error.   What's the standard way of passing and processing an array in an HTTP request in .NET? I have a solution, but I don't know if it's the best approach. Is there a simpler way to grab the multiple values than assuming that the value is comma-delimited and calling Split() on it? Is this how arrays are typically passed in .NET, or is XML used instead? • Different EF Property DataType than Storage Layer Possible?

  Hi, I am putting together a WCF Data Service for PatientEntities using Entity Framework. My solution needs to address these requirements: Property DateOfBirth of entity Patient is stored in SQL Server as string. It would be ideal if the entity class did not also use the "string" type but rather a DateTime type. (I would expect this to be possible since we're abstracting away from the storage layer). Where could a conversion mechanism be put in place that would convert to and from DateTime/string so that the entity and SQL Server are in sync?. I cannot change the storage layer's structure, so I have to work around it. WCF Data Services (Read-only, so no need for saving changes) need to be used since clients will be able to use LINQ expressions to consume the service. They can generate results based on any given query scenario they need and not be constrained by a single method such as GetPatient(int ID). I've tried to use DTOs, but run into problem of mapping the ObjectContext to a DTO, I don't think that is theoretically possible...or too complicated if it is. I've tried to use Self Tracking Entities but they require the metadata from the .edmx file if I'm correct, and this isn't allowing a different property data type. I also want to add customizations to my Entity getter methods so that a property "MRN" of type "string" needs to have .Replace("MR~", string.Empty) performed before it is returned. I can add this to the getter methods but the problem with that is Entity Framework will overwrite that next time it refreshes the entity classes. Is there a permanent place I can put these? Should I use POCO instead? How would that work with WCF Data Services? Where would the service grab the metadata?

I am programming a program to search the name from the list and I need to find them even if the keyword is not in front of the names (that's what I mean non-prefix) e.g. if I my list is the music instruments and I type "guit" to the search textbox. • Associate File Extension with Application

  I've written a program that edits a specific filetype , and I want to give the user the option to set my application as the default editor for this filetype (since I don't want an installer) on startup. • Does Java support default parameter values?

  I came across some Java code that had the following structure: public MyParameterizedFunction(String param1, int param2) { this(param1, param2, false); } public MyParameterizedFunction(String param1, int param2, boolean param3) { //use all three parameters here } I know that in C++ I can assign a parameter a default value. For example: void MyParameterizedFunction(String param1, int param2, bool param3=false); Does Java support this kind of syntax? Are there any reasons why this two step syntax is preferable?

• SQL indexing on varchar

  I have a table whose columns are varchar(50) and a float - I need to (very quickly) look get the float associated with a given string. Even with indexing, this is rather slow. I know, however, that each string is associated with an integer, which I know at the time of lookup, so that each string maps to a unique integer, but each integer does not map to a unique string. One might think of it as a tree structure. Is there anything to be gained by adding this integer to the table, indexing on it, and using a query like SELECT floatval FROM mytable WHERE phrase=givenstring AND assoc=givenint? This is Postgres, and if you couldn't tell, I have very little experience with databases.

• Printing to STDOUT and log file while removing ANSI color codes

  I have the following functions for colorizing my screen messages: def error(string): return '\033[31;1m' + string + '\033[0m' def standout(string): return '\033[34;1m' + string + '\033[0m' I use them as follows: print error('There was a problem with the program') print "This is normal " + standout("and this stands out") I want to log the output to a file (in addition to STDOUT) WITHOUT the ANSI color codes, hopefully without having to add a second "logging" line to each print statement. The reason is that if you simply python program.py > out then the file out will have the ANSI color codes, which look terrible if you open in a plain text editor. Any advice?

  I am developing a C# VS2008/SQL Server website application. I've never used the Dictionary class before, but I am trying to replace my Hashtable with a Dictionary variable. Here is a portion of my aspx.cs code: ... Dictionary<string, string> openWith = new Dictionary<string, string>(); for (int col = 0; col < headers.Length; col++) { @temp = (col + 1); @tempS = @temp.ToString(); @tempT = "@col" + @temp.ToString(); ... openWith.Add(@tempT, headers[col]); } ... for (int r = 0; r < myInputFile.Rows.Count; r++) { resultLabel.Text = ADONET_methods.AppendDataCT(myInputFile, openWith); } But this is giving me a compiler error on this last line: Argument '2': cannot convert from 'System.Collections.Generic.Dictionary' to 'string' How do I pass the entire openWith variable to AppendDataCT? AppendDataCT is the method that calls my SQL stored proc. I want to pass in the whole row where each row has a unique set of values that I want to add to my database table. For example, if each row requires values for cells A, B, and C, then I want to pass these 3 values to AppendDataCT, where all of these values are strings. How do I do this with Dictionary?

• Using Entity Framework for SQL Compact Edition 3.5 does not respect mode=exclusive property of conne

  I am using SQL Server Compact 3.5 edition with Entity Framework and I want to have exclusive lock on the database as documented here http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms171817.aspx. However when you pass this in a connection string to Entity Framework it does not respect this at all. • Am I using handlers in the wrong way?

  Hey, I've never used HTTP Handlers before, and I've got one working, but I'm not sure if I'm actually using it properly. I have generated a string which will be saved as a CSV file. When the user clicks a button, I want the download dialog box to open so that the user can save the file. What I have works, but I keep reading about modifying the web.config file and I haven't had to do that. My Handler: private string _data; private string _title = "temp"; public void AddData(string data) { _data = data; } public bool IsReusable { get { return false; } } public void ProcessRequest(HttpContext context) { context.Response.ContentType = "text/csv"; context.Response.AddHeader("content-disposition", "filename=" + _title + ".csv"); context.Response.Write(_data); context.Response.Flush(); context.Response.Close(); } And this is from the page that allows the user to download: (on button click) string dataToConvert = "MYCSVDATA...."; csvHandler handler = new csvHandler(); handler.AddData(dataToConvert); handler.ProcessRequest(this.Context); This works fine, but no examples I've seen ever instantiate the handler and always seem to modify the web.config.
