  • "[object Object]" passed instead of the actual object as parameter

    - by Andrew Latham
    I am using Heroku with a Ruby on Rails application, and running from Safari. I have the following Ajax call: $.ajax({ type : 'POST', url : '/test_page', data : {stuff: arr1}, dataType : 'script' }); arr1 is supposed to be an array of objects. There's a console.log right before that, and it is: [Object, Object, Object, Object, Object, ...] However, I got an error on the server side when I made this ajax call. The logs showed 2012-10-01T03:13:34+00:00 app[web.1]: Parameters: {"stuff"=>"[object Object]"} 2012-10-01T03:13:34+00:00 app[web.1]: WARNING: Can't verify CSRF token authenticity 2012-10-01T03:13:34+00:00 app[web.1]: NoMethodError (undefined method `to_hash' for "[object Object]":String): 2012-10-01T03:13:34+00:00 app[web.1]: Completed 500 Internal Server Error in 1ms I'm unable to replicate the error. It's really confusing to me - what would cause that string to sometimes be passed to the server instead of the object?

  • Assigning console.log to another object (Safari issue)

    - by Trevor Burnham
    I wanted to keep my logging statements as short as possible while preventing console from being accessed when it doesn't exist; I came up with the following solution: var _ = {}; if (console) { _.log = console.debug; } else { _.log = function() { } } To me, this seems quite elegant, and it works great in Firefox 3.6 (including preserving the line numbers that make console.debug more useful than console.log). But it doesn't work in Safari 4. (Haven't tested in other browsers yet.) If I follow the above with console.debug('A') _.log('B'); the first statement works fine in both browsers, but the second generates a "TypeError: Type Error" in Safari. Is this just a difference between how Firebug and the Safari Web Developer Tools implement console? If so, it is VERY annoying on Apple's part. (I get the same results in both browsers if I bind the console function to a prototype and then instantiate, rather than binding it directly to the object.) I could, of course, just call console.debug from an anonymous function assigned to _.log, but then I'd lose my line numbers. Any other ideas?

  • Append <ul> and <li> in recursive loop

    - by Batman
    I have a site collection. I was told I need a recursive loop to do this. This is what I've tried: When the site loads, call getSiteTree() which passes the top level website to my getSubSite() function. From there I check if there are any subsites. I have a boolean but I'm not really using it for anything yet, I've just seen it used before for this type of work. Anyways, from there I check if there are any sub sits, if not I log the end of the branch, if there are, I call the function again using the new url and repeat the process. Looking at my console, it seems to work as intended. function getSiteTree(){ var tree = $('#treeviewList'); var rootsite = window.location.protocol + "//" + window.location.hostname; var siteEnd = false; getSubSite(rootsite); } function getSubSite(url){ $().SPServices({ operation: "GetWebCollection", webURL: url, async: true, completefunc: function(xData, Status) { var siteUrl; var siteCount = $(xData.responseXML).find("Web").length; if(siteCount == 0){ console.log("end of branch"); siteEnd = true; }else{ $(xData.responseXML).find("Web").each(function() { siteUrl = $(this).attr("Url"); console.log(siteUrl); getSubSite(siteUrl); }); } } }); } My questions: now that I have my sites, I need to take those sites and create something like this but I'm not sure how to accomplish this. <li>Site 1 <ul> <li>sub 1.1</li> <li>sub 1.2</li> <li>sub 1.3</li> <ul> <li>1.3.1</li> </ul> <li>sub 1.4</li> <li>sub 1.5</li> </ul> </li> <li>Site 2 <ul> <li>sub 2.1</li> <li>sub 2.2</li> <li>sub 2.3</li> <ul> <li>2.3.1</li> <li>2.3.2</li> </ul> </ul> </li> </ul> I have this inital html: <div id="treeviewDiv" style="width:200px;height:150px;overflow:scroll"> <ui id="treeviewList"></ui> </div>

  • jQuery image hover color overlay

    - by Ryan Max
    I can't seem to find any examples of this having been done anywhere on the internet before but here is what I am going to attempt to do...I'm trying to go about the cleanest possible way of laying this out. So I have an image gallery where the images are all different sizes. I want to make it so that when you mouseover the image, it turns a shade of orange. Just a simple hover effect. I want to do this without using an image swap, otherwise I'd have to create an orange colored hover-image for each individual gallery image, I'd like this to be a bit more dynamic. My plan is just to position an empty div over the image absolutely with a background color, width and height 100% and opacity: 0. Then using jquery, on mouseover I'd have the opacity fade to 0.3 or so, and fade back to zero on mouseout. My question is, what would be the best way to layout the html and css to do this efficiently and cleanly. Here's a brief, but incomplete setup: <li> <a href="#"> <div class="hover">&nbsp;</div> <img src="images/galerry_image.png" /> </a> </li> .hover { width: 100%; height: 100%; background: orange; opacity: 0; }

  • keep HTMLformat after replace some text (using PHP and JS)

    - by Sadi
    I would like modify HTML like I am <b>Sadi, novice</b> programmer. to I am <b>Sadi, learner</b> programmer. To do it I will search using a string "novice programmer". How can I do it please? Any idea? Thank you Sadi More clarification: I get some nice reply with possible solution. But please keep posting if you have any idea in mind. I would like to more clarify the problem just in case anyone missed it. Main post shows the problem as an example scenario. 1) Now the problem is find and replace some string without considering the tags. The tags may shows up within a single word. String may contain multiple word. Tag only appear in the content string or the document. The search phrase never contain any tags. We can easily remove all tags and do some text operation. But here the another problem shows up. 2) The tags must be preserve, even after replacing the text. That is what the example shows. Thank you Again for helping

  • (CKEditor) Looking for exhaustive list of commands and a way to set style...?

    - by humble_coder
    Hi All, I'm currently working with CKEditor (http://ckeditor.com/). I'm looking for: 1) an exhaustive list of commands available by default via 'execCommand'. 2) a mechanism by which to set styles (as in the same way the FONT and SIZE combo boxes do it). I saw the function called 'setStyle' in the documentation, however it seems to require an exact element. I can't for the life of me figure out how to do so based on the selection -- there is no way to use ID or CLASS, as the selected portions have none. I've posted to the forums but they don't seem to be terribly active as far as replies are concerned. Any assistance would be most appreciated. Best.

  • innerHTML doesn't work correctly with xhtml in Chrome

    - by Desperadeus
    Hi! I've got a trouble with Chrome5.0.375.70, but FF 3.6.3 and Opera 10.53 are OK. Below is the line of code: document.getElementById('content').innerHTML = data.documentElement.innerHTML; The data object from the code is a document (typeof(data) == 'object') and I've got it by ajax request to chapter01.xhtml: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <!DOCTYPE html [ <!ENTITY D "&#x2014;"> <!ENTITY o "&#x2018;"> <!ENTITY c "&#x2019;"> <!ENTITY O "&#x201C;"> <!ENTITY C "&#x201D;"> ]> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <title>Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. How can I fix it or bypass?

  • Converting an equation into a way java script can interpret it

    - by GeorgeTaylor
    So I have this code that is meant to do this equation: (1 / 15) * arccos(-tan(L) * tan(23.44 * sin(360 * (D + 284) / 365))) and for testing purposes alert it! But for some reason it returns "NaN". I've probably done something really stupid :P var now = new Date(); var start = new Date(now.getFullYear(), 0, 0); var diff = now - start; var oneDay = 1000 * 60 * 60 * 24; var d = Math.floor(diff / oneDay); var lat = position.coords.latitude; var long = position.coords.longitude; var tanlat = Math.atan(lat); var tantwentythree = Math.tan(23.44); var dayplus = d + 284; var sinday = Math.sin(360 * dayplus); var arccos = Math.acos(tanlat); var start = 1 / 15; var equation = start * arccos * tantwentythree * sinday / 365; alert(equation);

  • Recommendations on Triming Large Amounts of Text from a DOM Object

    - by aronchick
    I'm doing some in browser editing, and I have some content that's on the order of around 20k characters long in a <pre>. So it looks something like: <pre> Text 1 Text 2 Text 3 Text 4 [...] Text 20,000 </pre> I'd like to use jquery to trim it down when someone hits a button to chop, but I'm having trouble doing it without overloading the browser. Assume I know that the character numbers are at 16,510 - 17,888, and what I'd like to do is trim it. I was using: jQuery('#textsection').html(jQuery('textarea').html().substr(range.start)); But browsers seem to enjoy crashing when I do this. Alternatives?

  • "Access is denied" error on accessing iframe document object

    - by Ovesh
    For posting AJAX forms in a form with many parameters, I am using a solution of creating an iframe, posting the form to it by POST, and then accessing the iframe's content. specifically, I am accessing the content like this: $("some_iframe_id").get(0).contentWindow.document I tested it and it worked. On some of the pages, I started getting an "Access is denied" error. As far as I know, this shouldn't happen if the iframe is served from the same domain. I'm pretty sure it was working before. Anybody have a clue? If I'm not being clear enough: I'm posting to the same domain. So this is not a cross-domain request. I am testing on IE only. P.S. I can't use simple ajax POST queries (don't ask...)
