This seems like a simple task, but I need to copy files from my host machine to my virtual PC. I am running Windows 7 Virtual PC.
I usually use \tsclient, but that is not working.
I have a virtual machine on Vsphere 5.0 running Ubuntu 12.04 when i put dinamic IP (/etc/network/interfaces) iface eth0 inet dhcp
Ubuntu have network and i can do ping to google for example (8.8.8.8)
but when i put static IP and configure resolv.conf
My interfaces file:
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.1.54
gateway 192.168.1.1
netmask 255.255.255.0
it lost the network and i cant do ping to anything...i dont understand where is the problem...
Thanks a lot
In order to have encrypted passwords on local machine, I'm hesitating between Ipswitch WS FTP Pro and Wise FTP by Acebit. Wich one would you recommand ?
I am using Windows Vista, and i am able to logon to my machine, all works fine.
But after every 30-40 mins of log-on the system automatically logs-off the current user (closing all the applications, ofcourse).
Is there a way to identify (and disable) the process that is taking care of this?
Thanks for your interest.
I'm trying to learn how to use screen, in unix so that I don't have to open up several ssh connections and terminal windows just because I want to do more than one thing at the same time on a machine. I have found the split command quite useful, but I have a problem I can't seem to figure out of... how do I unsplit??
I can split split using ^A S and switch between them using ^A ^I, but can't figure out how to remove a split...
I need to open a specific port on my mac client (because when I try to connect from server it says "target machine actively refused it ").My problem though is I cannot find a way to add a specific port on my latest Mac OS.
I go to system pref-securtiy &privacy-firewall- turn it on (FWIW
connection didnt work when I had turned it off)-Firewall options-"+"
This gives me an option to add some application but not a port .Can someone point me to the right place to add the port?
The title says it all: I have a machine that has several partitions. I'd like to back it all up (preferably as a single image) and restore it to a single partition/maybe LVM. I've run into more and more trouble with the choice of partition sizes and decided it wasn't worth the trouble.
I'd like to place some files in a folder that shows up on all user's desktop on a machine. What do I need to know about the differences between Win7 and XP to do this? Is this still possible?
I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 Machine with 1 physical hard drive.
I have an exact copy of the hardware of it, which I intend to use a a redundant backup in case my server fails (hardware or software).
I'd like to routinely "clone" my production server's hard drive, so that when it fails, I'll just swap it with the latest clone.
Is this even possible? If it is, what would be the simplest way to do this?
My development machine is heavy on memory usage. It currently only has 4GB of PC5300. I'm going to buy 8 GB of RAM, but should I take out all my existing memory and install just PC6400 or leave some of the original and stick with 5300? I don't know if I'll ever need more than 8GB, I might, I'm just wondering if the speed difference between 5300 and 6400 is worth trashing the 2 or 3 GB of old RAM I would still have room for after adding the new RAM.

Hi
In this scenario there is point -to point serial connection between R6 and R7 , there is router R10 whose interface F0/0 is having ip address of 10.1.1.2/24 and there is a host machine (R9) with ip address 10.1.1.1/24 which is running an application,
My problem is that Application on R9 will only work when it will get its Gateway as 10.1.1.1/24 which is of router (R10) , is there any way i can make R6 and R7 transparent for R9 and R10, Or any type of routing using GRE / Route-map or any other way.
Thanks in advace
Fedora, and other distros install a PAE kernel if the hardware supports it.
Are there any negative effect on running a PAE kernel on a machine with less than 3-4Gb ram ?
Most of the hardware failures I've had (especially hard drive crashes) have happened when turning the machine on, so is it better to leave your computer on all the time or not?
For years, I've heard arguments for...
no power surges on start-up
steady operating temperature for components
and against...
unnecessary wear on hard drives
power wastage
and I'm still not sure.
If I get the fully qualified computer name on a Windows server (2K3 or 2K8) using the GetComputerNameEx() API call, can I rely on that name to be unique on that particular domain? That is, can I assume that only a single active physical or virtual machine will have that fully qualified name at a given time?
As a second question: is it guaranteed that all Windows machines will have such a fully-qualified name?
Thanks for any help.
I've just created an Automator workflow and I'm using crontab to execute it at night.
The problem is that, after a while, the machine is going to sleep and a password is required (this is the intended behaviour).
Unfortunately, Automator seems to be unable to perform the task when the password is required. It works like a charm if the "password required" dialog is not displayed (before the sleep).
Any suggestion on how to solve this?
My setup is local install so I don't expect it to receive emails from the internet. However I do expect it to be able send messages to the internet, but it doesn't seem like it. I have tried setting up on FreeBSD before and it was able to do so but I wasn't involved in the setting of the machine though. I was just tasked to setup Horde... Any insights please????
Does anyone know if the Acer Ferrari One supports hardware assisted virtualization (it should easy to find out by running Microsoft's Hardware-Assisted Virtualization Detection Tool on that machine).
There is lot's of speculation around the web, but I haven't found a definitive answer yet (and would like to confirm that this feature will be working before buying one).
Is it possible to use Windows remote desktop connection to connect to a Windows XP machine with a user already logged in and just view that users screen without logging them off?
I need a little advise, I need to sync a DB that is currently on a Server 2008(SQL Server 2005) machine and I use Studio Express to connect to it. I need a way of syncing this DB to mysql that lives on a NAS on the same network:
Local: DB Engine on server, named, server\sqlexpress and IP = 10.0.0.201
Target: DB on NAS, named, CISCO-NAS and IP = 10.0.0.182
Will need for this to sync every few mins...
I really don't know how to start.
I'm trying to determine what GPO's are being applied to my Windows 7 machine in a Windows 2003 AD network. However, whenever I bring up a command window and run the GPRESULT command, all I get are error messages. Does gpresult work at all in Windows 7?
I am using gprint as a shell call to print pdf files. I have to install the network printer first, but the program runs under a different account. Is there anyway to install a network printer under Windows XP so that it is available to all accounts on the machine?
A legacy application relies on the following .htaccess rule for an individual file
<Files MyFile.html>
AddType application/x-httpd-php .html
</Files>
The new machine has nginx and php-fpm installed with the following config:

fastcgi_split_path_info ^(.+\.php)(/.+)$;
fastcgi_pass unix:/var/run/php5-fpm.sock;
fastcgi_index index.php;
