• View HTML Tags and Webpage Combined in Firefox

  Do you want an easier way to see a webpage’s html tags without viewing the source code in a separate window? Now you can view the webpage and tags combined in the same window using the X-Ray extension for Firefox. Before Usually if you want to see the source code behind a webpage you have to view it in a separate window. If you are only interested in a specific section then you have to search through the entire set of code just to find what you are looking for. After The X-Ray extension will let you see the document’s tags (including class and ID names) “side by side” with the webpage in the same tab. You can use either the context menu or the tools menu to access the X-Ray command. Here is the same webpage section shown in the first screenshot above. It may look a little odd at first until you get used to seeing both together. Note: You can return the webpage to its’ normal view by either clicking on the X-Ray command again or refreshing the page. The code for part of the sidebar on the same webpage… Followed by one of the sets of links at the end. Looking at another example suppose you are interested in how part of the main feed is set up. Being able to see how a particular element is set up directly in the webpage is certainly better than searching through the entire page of code. Conclusion If you design webpages and want an easy way to see how someone else’s website is coded then you may want to give this extension a try. • Using {% url ??? %} in django templates

  I have looked a lot on google for answers of how to use the 'url' tag in templates only to find many responses saying 'You just insert it into your template and point it at the view you want the url for'. Well no joy for me :( I have tried every permutation possible and have resorted to posting here as a last resort. So here it is. • How to use pthread_atfork() and pthread_once() to reinitialize mutexes in child processes

  We have a C++ shared library that uses ZeroC's Ice library for RPC and unless we shut down Ice's runtime, we've observed child processes hanging on random mutexes. The Ice runtime starts threads, has many internal mutexes and keeps open file descriptors to servers. Additionally, we have a few of mutexes of our own to protect our internal state. Our shared library is used by hundreds of internal applications so we don't have control over when the process calls fork(), so we need a way to safely shutdown Ice and lock our mutexes while the process forks. Reading the POSIX standard on pthread_atfork() on handling mutexes and internal state: Alternatively, some libraries might have been able to supply just a child routine that reinitializes the mutexes in the library and all associated states to some known value (for example, what it was when the image was originally executed). This approach is not possible, though, because implementations are allowed to fail *_init() and *_destroy() calls for mutexes and locks if the mutex or lock is still locked. In this case, the child routine is not able to reinitialize the mutexes and locks. On Linux, the this test C program returns EPERM from pthread_mutex_unlock() in the child pthread_atfork() handler. Linux requires adding _NP to the PTHREAD_MUTEX_ERRORCHECK macro for it to compile. This program is linked from this good thread. Given that it's technically not safe or legal to unlock or destroy a mutex in the child, I'm thinking it's better to have pointers to mutexes and then have the child make new pthread_mutex_t on the heap and leave the parent's mutexes alone, thereby having a small memory leak. The only issue is how to reinitialize the state of the library and I'm thinking of reseting a pthread_once_t. A new pthread_mutex_t is only created when the library function is invoked in the child process. This is hacky but maybe the best way of dealing with this skirting the standards. If the pthread_once_t contains a mutex then the system must have a way of initializing it from its PTHREAD_ONCE_INIT state. If it contains a pointer to a mutex allocated on the heap than it'll be forced to allocate a new one and set the address in the pthread_once_t. I'm hoping it doesn't use the address of the pthread_once_t for anything special which would defeat this. Searching comp.programming.threads group for pthread_atfork() shows a lot of good discussion and how little the POSIX standards really provides to solve this problem. There's also the issue that one should only call async-signal-safe functions from pthread_atfork() handlers, and it appears the most important one is the child handler, where only a memcpy() is done. Does this work? Is there a better way of dealing with the requirements of our shared library?

  I have heard perl is a good language at doing regex but i am a bit confused at the characters that requires escaping I tested the code on http://regexlib.com/RETester.aspx and got the result I want //home/dev/abc/code/hello/world.cpp#1 //home/dev/((.*?)/[^/]+).*# Match $1 $2 //home/dev/abc/code/hello/world.cpp# abc/code abc However, I am not quite sure how do i translate this to perl code I tried, \/\/home\/dev\/\(\(\.\*\?\)\/\[\^\/\]\+\)\.\*\# and \/\/home\/dev\/((.*?)\/[^\/]+).*\# and both failed Don't you think the escaping makes the regex very unreadable?   Getting and Setting the URL, and different parts of the URL are a basic part of Application Design. For Page Navigation Deep Linking Providing a link to the user Querying Data Passing information to other pages Both angularjs and javascript provide ways to get/set the URL and parts of the URL. I'm looking for the following information: Situation: Show a simple URL in the browser address bar to the user Provide a more detailed URL with string parameters to the page that the user will not see. In other words, two different URLs will be used, one simple one that the user sees in the browser, a more detailed one available to the page on load. Get URL info with PHP when then page intially loads, both don't reload the PHP page when the user needs more detailed info that is already loaded but not displayed yet. Set the URL with a more detailed URL for deep linking as the user drills down to more specific information. Get URL info in a controller or JavaSript when angularjs detects a change in the URL with routing. Hash or Query String or Both? Should I use a hash # in the URL, a string ?= or both? Here is what I currently know and what I want: A Query String HTTP:\\www.name.com?mykey=itemID will prevent angularjs from reloading the page. So, I can change the URL by adding/changing the string at the end, thereby providing new info to the page, and keep the page from reloading. I can change the URL and force a page reload with: window.location.href = "#Store/" + argUserPubId + "?itemID=home"; If home is the itemID string, I want code to simply load the page, and not display more detailed information. If there is a real itemID in the URL query string, I want the code to display the more detailed information. Code from angularjs will run either from the controller specified in the routing, or a controller specified in the HTML, or both. The angularjs code specified in the routing seems to run first, before the code specified in the HTML. A different URL for the page can be used in angularjs templateURL: than the URL that was sent to the browser address bar. when('/Store/:StoreId', { templateUrl: function(params){return 'Client_Pages/Stores.php?storeID=' + params.StoreId;}, controller: 'storeParseData' }).   I need to set the ConnectionString for my DataContext's based on an AppSetting. I am trying to do this by creating a Partial Class for each DataContext. The below is what I have so far and I am wondering if I am overlooking something? Specifically, am I dealing with my DataContext's correctly(disposing, staleness, etc)? Doing it this way will I have issues with Updates and Inserts? Is the file BLLAspnetdb.cs useful or neccessary in the least or should all of that be in the generated partial class AspnetdbDataContext file?   Hi When using NAudio to playback an mp3 [in the console], I cant figure out how to stop the playback. When I call waveout.Stop() the code just stops running and waveout.Dispose() never gets called. Is it something to do with the function callback? • Is inline SQL still classed as bad practice now that we have Micro ORMs?

  This is a bit of an open ended question but I wanted some opinions, as I grew up in a world where inline SQL scripts were the norm, then we were all made very aware of SQL injection based issues, and how fragile the sql was when doing string manipulations all over the place. Then came the dawn of the ORM where you were explaining the query to the ORM and letting it generate its own SQL, which in a lot of cases was not optimal but was safe and easy. Another good thing about ORMs or database abstraction layers were that the SQL was generated with its database engine in mind, so I could use Hibernate/Nhibernate with MSSQL, MYSQL and my code never changed it was just a configuration detail. Now fast forward to current day, where Micro ORMs seem to be winning over more developers I was wondering why we have seemingly taken a U-Turn on the whole in-line sql subject. I must admit I do like the idea of no ORM config files and being able to write my query in a more optimal manner but it feels like I am opening myself back up to the old vulnerabilities such as SQL injection and I am also tying myself to one database engine so if I want my software to support multiple database engines I would need to do some more string hackery which seems to then start to make code unreadable and more fragile. (Just before someone mentions it I know you can use parameter based arguments with most micro orms which offers protection in most cases from sql injection) So what are peoples opinions on this sort of thing? I am using Dapper as my Micro ORM in this instance and NHibernate as my regular ORM in this scenario, however most in each field are quite similar. What I term as inline sql is SQL strings within source code. There used to be design debates over SQL strings in source code detracting from the fundamental intent of the logic, which is why statically typed linq style queries became so popular its still just 1 language, but with lets say C# and Sql in one page you have 2 languages intermingled in your raw source code now. Just to clarify, the SQL injection is just one of the known issues with using sql strings, I already mention you can stop this from happening with parameter based queries, however I highlight other issues with having SQL queries ingrained in your source code, such as the lack of DB Vendor abstraction as well as losing any level of compile time error capturing on string based queries, these are all issues which we managed to side step with the dawn of ORMs with their higher level querying functionality, such as HQL or LINQ etc (not all of the issues but most of them). So I am less focused on the individual highlighted issues and more the bigger picture of is it now becoming more acceptable to have SQL strings directly in your source code again, as most Micro ORMs use this mechanism.
