  • Are 'const' variables precomputed by default in C++?

    - by Gunnar
Suppose I have variables for positions like const float latitude = 51.+11./60.+33.0461/3600.; const float longitude = 12.+50./60.+31.9369/3600.; and use them frequently in the program. Does the compiler precompute that? (This example should not produce much overhead, but you get the point.) Bonus point for pointing out location. ;) TIA

  • Programatically building an MSI

    - by pm_2
I would like to create a C# program that creates an MSI based on a number of parameters. For example, based on user settings, certain files would be included, or runtime parameters set. Can anyone point me towards any documentation that might help, or give me an idea where I might start with something like this?

I'm using Visual Studio for programming my code and I want to know its time consuming for performance. Really, I tried to use the Task Manager, but I do not get an accurate measurment. Please, if any one know an accurate way to measure the memory consumption, please help me and thanks alot

  • Manually Add a User to Database ASP.NET?

    - by user364878
Hello, So when your using ASP.NET Wizards to create a login, it uses a set of auto generated tables using the aspnet_regsql.exe tool... When you create a user using the wizard it generates a very long userID "a40cf936-1596-4560-a26c-450792e2c8c0" I want to add users using another program that connects to this database... but how does visual studio auto-generate this ID. I want to auto-generate it as well Any ideas? Thanks in advance. -Scott

  • What does it mean when a ByteInputStream keeps returning 0?

    - by Zombies
I have a ByteInputStream, created from a Socket in Java. The connection is to a simple web server that uses chunked transfer encoding. The web server does in fact work in normal browser. But in my program, I am attempting to read, I read the first first bytes (some 5kb of data). But each read after that returns 0 bytes read. Isn't it supposed to block until it can read?

  • [boost::filesystem] performance: is it better to read all files once, or use b::fs functions over an

    - by rubenvb
I'm conflicted between a "read once, use memory+pointers to files" and a "read when necessary" approach. The latter is of course much easier (no additional classes needed to store the whole dir structure), but IMO it is slower? A little clarification: I'm writing a simple build system, that read a project file, checks if all files are present, and runs some compile steps. The file tree is static, so the first option doesn't need to be very dynamic and only needs to be built once every time the program is run. Thanks

  • Is there a way to organize a icon collection to allow for easy searching?

    - by John M
Is there any way of organizing a icon collection so that it easier to find needed icons? For example: the program needs a save icon there are 5 icons collections on your HD that have a save icon and there are 5 more collections that don't have a save icon (but you don't know that) do you browse through each icon collection? run a search (assumes files are named consistently)? Would it be ideal to have some sort of organized directory (printable?)?

  • Gzip In-Memory Compression

    - by feal87
Quick and simple question. There are examples online about achieving in-memory gzip compression with zlib (C++) WITHOUT external libraries (like boost or such)? I just need to compress and decompress a block of data without much options. (it must be gzip as its the same format used by another mine C# program (the data is to be shared)) Tried to search to no avail... Thanks!

  • Java code compression and decompression of a string

    - by user1822710
I am having a problem figuring how to check a string for the same characters in a row then count that same character in a row then printing it out then giving the location of the last occorance of that character count then printing it out then moving to the next character in the string that is different then the previous character and the program is case sensitive. So the input could be: aaaaAAAbbbddccc How would I compress this string to: a4A3b3d2c3 ? and then decompress it?

  • When does Java's JVM unzip jar files?

    - by TwentyMiles
Java's jar file format builds off of the zip file format, and supports compression of the class files inside it. When and how does the JVM decide which class files to uncompress and pull out of the jars on its classpath? Is the process dynamic and done at runtime as classes are needed, or are they all uncompressed up front before the program actually runs?

  • Cheap and cheerful rand() replacement.

    - by Mick
After profiling a large game playing program, I have found that the library function rand() is consuming a considerable fraction of the total processing time. My requirements for the random number generator are not very onerous - its not important that it pass a great battery of statistical tests of pure randomness. I just want something cheap and cheerful that is very fast. Any suggestions?

  • Scope of const char*

    - by Neeraj
Consider this code: const char* someFun() { // ... some stuff return "Some text!!" } int main() { { // Block: A const char* retStr = someFun(); // use retStr } } My question is in the function sumFun() where is "some Text!!", stored (i think may be in some static area in ROM) and what will be its scope? Will the memory pointed by retStr be occupied throughout the program or be released once the block A exits? -- Thanks

  • .NET coupled with MATLAB or R?

    - by Peter
I'm writing a program in .NET that will need to utilize the statistical and data analysis functions of R or MATLAB. I have used R but am now contemplating moving to MATLAB since it has a .Net compiler while R can only interface via COM objects. Can anyone recommend going either way? I know MATLAB is infinitely more expensive than R (since R is free) but I'm thinking that may translate to an easier development cycle?

  • How can I measure the speed of code written in Java? (AI algorithms)

    - by Registered User
Hi All, How can I measure the speed of code written in Java? I planning to develop software which will solve Sudoku using all presently available AI and ML algorithms and compare time against simple brute-force method. I need to measure time of each algorithm, I would like to ask for suggestions on what is the best way of doing that? Very important, program must be useful on any machine regardless to CPU power/memory. Thank you.

  • Manipulating values from database table with php

    - by charliecodex23
I currently have 5 tables in MySQL database. Some of them share foreign keys and are interdependent of each other. I am displaying classes accordingly to their majors. Each class is taught during the fall, spring or all_year. In my database I have a table named semester which has an id, year, and semester fields. The semester field in particular is a tinyint that has three values 0, 1, 2. This signifies the fall, spring or all_year. When I display the query instead of having it show 0 or 1 or 2 can I have it show fall, spring etc? Extra: How can I add space to the end of each loop so the data doesn't look clustered? Key 0 Fall 1 Spring 2 All-year PHP <? try { $pdo = new PDO ("mysql:host=$hostname;dbname=$dbname","$username","$pw"); } catch (PDOException $e) { echo "Failed to get DB handle: " . $e->getMessage() . • Android - How can I find out how many unread email the user has?

    - by BenIOs
I'm writing a program that should display the amount of unread sms, mms, phone calls and emails. It was quite easy to find how to query for sms and phone calls (I used the search on this page) but I have not been able to find out how to query for emails. Is there anyway to find out how many unread emails the user got in their phone?
