  • To implement registration page with Vaadin or not?

    This is a tactical implementation question about usage of Vaadin or in some part of my application. Vaadin is a great framework to login users and implement sophisticated web applications with many pages. However, I think it is not very well suited to desgin pages to register new users for my application. Am I right? Am I am wrong? It seems to me that a simple HTML/CSS/Javascript login + email registration + confirmation email with confirmation link cannot be implemented easily with Vaadin. It seems like Vaadin would be overkill. Do you agree? Or am I missing something? I am looking for feedback from experienced Vaadin users.

    I have a site where users will follow this path (hopefully): mysite.com/entity mysite.com/entity/pay mysite.com/entity/pay/details mysite.com/entity/pay/confirmation mysite.com/entity/pay/payment mysite.com/entity/paymentsuccessful?lotsofuniquestuff The entity section could be any one of a multitude of entries, but once the user is on a journey it will stay consistent. I have a goal set up for this as a regular expression, with the match being .*PaymentSuccessful.*. This detects goal successes perfectly (as checked with data stored by the site directly). I have set the following steps within the goal: /[a-zA-Z0-9]+/pay /[a-zA-Z0-9]+/pay/details /[a-zA-Z0-9]+/pay/confirmation /[a-zA-Z0-9]+/pay/payment My funnel detects entry into the funnel (e.g. 47 users) of which say 10 complete the funnel. However, all drop offs are after the first step, even though the exist page is listed as the second step! My data also suggests users are getting further in the funnel before failing to reach the goal. What have I done wrong?

  • How to determine the size of a package in terminal prior to downloading?

    When using apt-get install <package_name>, and there are dependencies that need to be downloaded, the terminal outputs names of additional packages and total size, and asks for confirmation before downloading. But, when dependencies are satisfied and nothing but the named package needs to be downloaded there is no size output and no confirmation. When using Synaptic, I can see the total size that new packages that will use after installation but no way to see the size that needs to be downloaded, except to go from package to package and use properties to see the compressed size. I would like to know if there is a way to see the size of a package(s) in terminal and Synaptic prior to downloading and installing it/them?

    I have a website that emails a link to the invoice when an order is complete. The link should be http://mysite.com/QuoteAndBook/Confirmation?orderId=123 But for some reason it is: http://204435-204435/QuoteAndBook/Confirmation?orderId=123 The host portion of the link is generated using HttpContext.Current.Request.Url.Host but I would expect that to return "mysite.com", not "204435-204435". Any idea what's going on?

  • How to Add a Note to an Email Message in Outlook 2013

    There may be times when you want to add a note to an email message you received. Maybe you need to remember something about the sender or the contents of the email. There are several ways to add a note to an email message. NOTE: You can also create a new task containing an email message you received. This is useful if you need to do something related to the email. The new task will contain all the contents (except attachments) from the email. One method of adding a note to an email message is to flag the message. To do this, right-click on the flag icon in the flag column for the message to which you want to add a note. Select Custom from the popup menu. On the Custom dialog box, you can select a ready-made note from the Flag to drop-down list. You can also type a custom note in the Flag to edit box. Select a Start date and a Due date and setup a reminder, if desired. Click OK. The flag displays above the body of the email message when you double-click on the message to open it in the Message window. You can also put the cursor in the subject line of the message and add text to it, as shown below. When you close the message window, a confirmation dialog box displays asking if you want to save your changes. To save the note you added to the subject line, click Yes. Your note displays as part of the subject line on the message in your list of email messages. You can also add a note to the body of an email message. To do this, you must enable editing of the message. Double-click the message to open the Message window. Click Actions in the Move section of the Message tab and select Edit Message from the drop-down menu. Click in the body of the message and type your note. When you close the Message window, a confirmation dialog box displays asking if you want to save your changes. Click Yes to save you note in the body of the email. You can see the note you added if it is visible as part of the first line of the body displayed in the list of email messages. Use the Notes section of Outlook to create a separate note you can attach to an email message. To do this, click the … button on the Navigation Bar and select Notes from the popup menu. Enter the text for your note in the small note window that displays and click the X button to close the note, saving it. Leaving the Message window open, go back to the main Outlook window and select Notes from the Navigation Bar, as mentioned above. Drag the note you created to the message window. The note is added to the message as an attachment. When you close the Message window, a confirmation dialog box displays asking if you want to save your changes. To save the message with your note added as an attachment, click Yes. A paperclip icon is added to the message in the list of email messages, indicating there is an attachment in the message. When you add a note to an email message as an attachment using the Notes section of Outlook, you don’t have to keep the original note. The note is now saved with the message, and can be deleted from the Notes section.

    If an attacker has several distinct items (for example: e-mail addresses) and knows the encrypted value of each item, can the attacker more easily determine the secret passphrase used to encrypt those items? Meaning, can they determine the passphrase without resorting to brute force? This question may sound strange, so let me provide a use-case: User signs up to a site with their e-mail address Server sends that e-mail address a confirmation URL (for example: https://my.app.com/confirmEmailAddress/bill%40yahoo.com) Attacker can guess the confirmation URL and therefore can sign up with someone else's e-mail address, and 'confirm' it without ever having to sign in to that person's e-mail account and see the confirmation URL. This is a problem. Instead of sending the e-mail address plain text in the URL, we'll send it encrypted by a secret passphrase. (I know the attacker could still intercept the e-mail sent by the server, since e-mail are plain text, but bear with me here.) If an attacker then signs up with multiple free e-mail accounts and sees multiple URLs, each with the corresponding encrypted e-mail address, could the attacker more easily determine the passphrase used for encryption? Alternative Solution I could instead send a random number or one-way hash of their e-mail address (plus random salt). This eliminates storing the secret passphrase, but it means I need to store that random number/hash in the database. The original approach above does not require storage in the database. I'm leaning towards the the one-way-hash-stored-in-the-db, but I still would like to know the answer: does having multiple unencrypted e-mail addresses and their encrypted counterparts make it easier to determine the passphrase used?

    I want to serialize my enum-value as an int, but i only get the name. Required operation steps are as follows:- When user selects one or more checkboxes and clicks the submit button then a JQUERY code is get executed in which It should checks that if any check box is selected; if not; then is displays alert message and do not submit the form. If it founds that one or more checkboxes are selected it should ask user for his/her confirmation using confirm alert box about the confirmation of deletion. If user press YES button on confirm box then it should submit the form using javascript submit statement. If user pressed the NO button then it should unchecks the checked selected checkboxes and should not submit the form. With the code above I'm able to collect the values of each checkbox into an array val, but having difficulty looping through and displaying them. Any advice would be appreciated.

    I always Hibernate my PC. Sometimes when I boot, it does not recognize the mouse/keyboard or any USB devices. I've also setup it to go in sleep in 5 minutes. In that case I can't restart the PC so that USB starts working. When I press the Power button then it starts shutdown but asks confirmation twice, one is for shutdown by force confirmation and then there is one more. When my USB is disabled I can't input these options. So I switch off the power. What I want is that upon pressing Power Button it should at once start shutdown without asking any more confirmations System details: Win-7 Home Premium 64 bit Intel i3 530 Asus P montherboard EDIT: It is Desktop PC

  • Ubuntu 12.04 does not see windows already install on my computer (dual installation)

    I was trying to install the ubuntu 12.4 along side windows 7 on my new HP Pavilion 64k desktop with windows 7 computer but Ubuntu said that ( This computer has no detected operating system) and some one said (I suggest you chkdsk your Windows partition. I also suggest you resize the NTFS in WIndows then install Ubuntu to the free space.) Therefore I did (To shrink a simple or spanned volume using the Windows interface In Disk Management, right-click the simple or spanned volume you want to shrink. Click Shrink Volume…. Follow the instructions on your screen.) Then When I try to install ubuntu 12.4 after doing this, I received the same error. I was going to undo what I did but I see that I lose 1g when I do that so now what do I do? it says I can do a new simple volume and maybe then the space will no longer be unallocated. Please help me. I think I have a bad cd (ubuntu 12.4) cause from my research I see that I am not suppose to get a screen saying that (The computer has no detected operating system) I think this is a bad cd and I hope I did not mess up my computer. I did chkdsk as you and actionparsnip (andrew-woodhead666) told me to AND ALSO did a lot of other things before I found out how to chkdsk. No problems. Thank you. Then I put back the space (extended) I took from system. I still was only able to put back 15 and not 16 so it is up to 99mb not back to 100mb. Then I shrank HP (C) as you told me, to 10 13,240 mb which is (12.93gb Unallocated). I did not change it into NTSF by doing the (New Simple Volume Action) I just left it. Then I tried to install UBUNTU 12.04 live CD amd64 and it gave me the results it was sometimes giving me before which is result (THAT Ubuntu) does not tell me weather I have or have not an already installed windows7. It just goes to a window that would have showed me information on what I have and on the bottom (DEVICE FOR BOOT LOADER INSTALLATION /dev/sda ) and the option to go BACK, QUIT, or INSTALL. (I think it is the INSTALLATION TYPE window). Therefore I do what I have been doing and I QUIT. What do I do now? Sorry that it seems like I cannot do anything on my own. On the Youtube video how to install ubuntu dual-boot alongside windows UBUNTU is installed so easy. The installation option page gives 3 options including dual instillation and the disk even lets you use a slider to slide to the size of the partition size you want. Yet my UBUNTU live cd is a mess and I checked it as one of you guys told me and got back information that it is good. Oh well this guy says you should press a control key to tell which device you are using to install ubuntu before the screen comes up. I guess cause it is old.   • How to implement lockstep model for RTS game?

    In my effort to learn programming I'm trying to make a small RTS style game. I've googled and read a lot of articles and gamedev q&a's on the topic of lockstep synchronization in multiplayer RTS games, but am still having trouble wrapping my head around how to implement it in my own game. I currently have a simple server/client system. For example if player1 selects a unit and gives the command to move it, the client sends the command [move, unit, coordinates] to the server, the server runs the pathfinding function and sends [move, unit, path] to all clients which then moves the unit and run animations. So far so good, but not synchronized for clients with latency or lower/higher FPS. How can I turn this into a true lockstep system? Is the right methodology supposed to be something like the following, using the example from above: Turn 1 start gather command inputs from player1 send to the server turn number and commands end turn, increment turn number The server receives the commands, runs pathfinding and sends the paths to all clients. Next turn receive paths from server, as well as confirmation that all clients completed previous turn, otherwise pause and wait for that confirmation move units gather new inputs end turn Is that the gist of it? Should perhaps pathfinding and other game logic be done client side instead of on the server, if so why? Is there anything else I'm missing? I hope someone can break down the concept, so I understand it better.

    I would like to know how to force-restart a PC that has crashed/hung and become completely non-responsive, using 2nd-generation vPro technology. Assume there is a second, fully responsive PC on the same LAN that can be accessed remotely to assist. Specifically, I am considering purchasing a PC with an i7-2860QM CPU, which is vPro-enabled (according to Intel). Here are two links that indicate it should be possible to force-restart a hung system with a 2nd-generation vPro-enabled CPU: Seconds 24-39 of What Is Intel vPro™ Technology? Page 17 (21 of the PDF) of Intel® vPro™ Technology: Reference Guide However, after extensive research, I cannot find a straightforward and trustworthy source of confirmation that this will actually work as I describe, or any documentation about how to set it up.   • How to Shutdown PC by Pressing Power Button

    I always Hibernate my PC. Sometimes when I boot, it does not recognize the mouse/keyboard or any USB devices. I've also setup it to go in sleep in 5 minutes. In that case I can't restart the PC so that USB starts working. When I press the Power button then it starts shutdown but asks confirmation twice one is for shutdown by force confirmation and then there is one more. When my USB is disabled I can't input these options. So I switch off the power. What I want is that upon pressing Power Button it should at once start shutdown without asking any more confirmations System details: Win-7 Home Premium 64 bit Intel i3 530 Asus P montherboard EDIT: It is Desktop PC

  • Mobile App Notifications in the Enterprise Space: UX Considerations

    Here is a really super website of UX patterns for Android: Android Patterns. I was particularly interested in the event-driven notification patterns (aka status bar notifications to developers). Android - unlike iOS (i.e., the iPhone) - offers a superior centralized notifications system for users.   (Figure copyright Android Patterns)   Research in the enterprise applications space shows how users on-the-go, prefer this approach, as: Users can manage their notification alerts centrally, across all media, apps and for device activity, and decide the order in which to deal with them, and when. Notifications, unlike messages in a dialog or information message in the UI, do not block a task flow (and we need to keep task completion to under three minutes). See the Anti-Patterns slideshare presentation on this blocking point too. These notifications must never interrupt a task flow by launching an activity from the background. Instead, the user can launch an activity from the notification. What users do need is the ability to filter this centralized approach, and to personalize the experience of which notifications are added, what the reminder is, ability to turn off, and so on. A related point concerning notifications is when used to provide users with a record of actions then you can lighten up on lengthy confirmation messages that pop up (toasts in the Android world) used when transactions or actions are sent for processing or into a workflow. Pretty much all the confirmation needs to say is the action is successful along with key data such as dollar amount, customer name, or whatever. I am a user of Android (Nexus S), BlackBerry (Curve), and iOS devices (iPhone 3GS and 4). In my opinion, the best notifications user experience for the enterprise user is offered by Android. Blackberry is good, but not as polished and way clunkier than Android’s. What you get on the iPhone, out of the box, is useless in the enterprise.   • Second monitor not detected

    Hi I have two VGA monitors, my GPU is ATI PowerColor 6850 which has two DVI slots, I use adapters for both VGA monitors. If I connect any the two monitors in the first slot it will work right away (along the plugin confirmation sound). And if I connect any of both monitors to the second slot I won't get anything, nor a signal or confirmation sound. I also tried auto detecting via Catalyst Control Center and Windows Desktop Resolution. I have the latest drivers installed. EDIT: I found this on the Spec Description: Display Connectors DL-DVI-I/SL-DVI-D And in NewEgg: 2 x DVI (1 Single Link, 1 Dual Link) Could this have anything to do with my issue?

  • Get off greylisting (the reason why our emails bounced back)

    Hello, I'm system administrator in online store. We send several emails to our clients after purchase: confirmation, invoice and sale notification to our staff. Recently we got most of emails bounced back and some bounces describes a reason as greylisting, others - just general failure. It is ruining our business because clients are calling that they didn't get the emails with confirmation and invoices. How to get off greylisting, and to not be greylisted? What actions should we do? Mailserver is dedicated machine using Mailenable on Win 2003. Thanks.

  • Shut down by pressing the power button twice

    I have set my laptop's power button to shut down the computer when it is pressed (Windows 7 x86). But I often hit the button accidentally, and it's a rare case that I'm able to actually prevent it from shutting down. I don't want to disable it though. Is there a way so that I get a confirmation whether I really want to shut down the computer (just like in Mac OS X Lion, where a confirmation appears when the power button is pressed)?. Is there some way to bring the same to Windows 7 (and 8)?
