• Extract data from delinked Excel plot

  I have a Word file which has some Excel plots in it. Unfortunately I lost the original excel plots and the word file is now 'de-linked'. Is there a way to retrieve the lost data for the plots? Just copying the plot back to Excel does not seem to work, but I can see that the data is still there somewhere, because hovering over a dot on the plot shows the values.   There often discussions and many facilities available to download streaming media (eg Youtube, Vimeo, etc), however is there a way it can stream a download link? Currently, my internet connection is prohibitively slow to download a video and I would prefer if I could watch the video while it is still downloading but I couldn't find how to do this. I did find this article but it appears to need your own media server.

• Connect android to database

  I am doing a school project where we need to create an android application which needs to connect to a database. the application needs to gain and store information for people's profiles on the database. But unfortunatly we are a little bit stuck at this point because there are numerous ways to link the application such as http request through apache or through the SOAP/REST protocol. But it's really hard to find good instructions or tutorials on the problem since I can't really find them. Maybe that's cause i'm probably using the wrong words on google. Unfortunately I have little relevant information. So if anyone can help me with finding relevant links to good online tutorials or howto's than those are very welcome.

• How can I make a vpn network login the default behavior for logging into Windows?

  To login to the machine, I have to login to our domain. When I am at work, the unauthenticated wireless permits access to the domain. However, the internet is not available until I connect via the vpn. From home, I have to connect via the vpn first, then I can login to the domain. I have successfully setup a network logon with the vpn (following the directions found here). And for the most part it works correctly. (There is an issue with logout/login I haven't figured out just yet). As I currently have to Switch User and select the Network Login button, I'd like to know if it is possible to have the network login the default behavior when logging into the system. This is mostly a usability issue than anything else.

• Executing EXE with wildcard from psexec

  I'm writing a few scripts that I am using to integrate with bamboo for some continuous integration improvements and I've run into a bit of a snag. I'm currently trying to run a psexec command that installs the latest build on the remote machine but I dont necessary know the revision number. For example, the remote exe file could be Installer-3.1.xxxxx.exe where the xxxxx changes. I tried running the command with Installer-3.1.*.exe but it takes it as literal in Windows. I'm not overly familiar with Windows command prompt and am more used to Linux at this moment.

• Win 7 crashes, PC reboots and says "Hard drive 0 not found" until I turn if off and on again

  I recently made the move from Windows XP to Windows 7. Since then, when my computer is on for a few hours it always ends up rebooting without warning. Then the BIOS won't recognize my hard drive (hard drive 0 not found). If I turn off my computer and then on again, it boots normally. Some details: Dell Dimension 9150 Windows 7 I updated the BIOS I updated all system drivers with the latest version from Dell (SATA, Chipset, etc.) Other drivers updated too (Graphic card, sound, etc.) There is one thing that I tried after some Googling: I turned off the DMA access to the drives, but it's still rebooting after a few hours. Any clue? UPDATE 2010/12/13 Here are the events from the Event Log for today, from when I turned the computer on until it crashed: 19:17 - Error - ID 10016 - DistributedCom 20:06 - Error - ID 1008 - Customer Improvement Program (could not send data to Microsoft) 21:48 - Critical - ID 41 - Kernel-Power (System was restarted without proper shutdown) 21:48 - Error - ID 6008 - EventLog (Previous system down was not planned) 21:48 - Error - ID 1101 - EventLog (Audit Event ignored) 21:49 - Error - ID 10016 - DistributedCom Both DistributedCom events have a description along these lines (translated from French): The authorisation parameters specific to the application are not allowing Local Execeution for the COM server application with the CLSID {C97FCC79-E628-407D-AE68-A06AD6D8B4D1} and the APPID {344ED43D-D086-4961-86A6-1106F4ACAD9B} to the SID AUTHORITY NT\User System (S-1-5-18) from the address LocalHost (LRPC usage). • port forwarding using 3 static ip addresses

  I am new to configuring routers. We have purchased a RV016 Cisco business router that has multiwan capability. What we are attempting to do is take map services from 3 different servers and assign 3 different static IP addresses and then forward port 80 through the router. A short term solution to building a proxy server. Is this possible? Right now we have a consumer grade Cisco router and assign a static IP and it works, we attempted the same settings on the business router and cannot get to the internet. We set it DHCP and it works fine, however we want to to forward the static ports not use DHCP.

• windows 2003 - why can't serial port be accessed remotely?

  we have recently installed the updates on some of our servers, which have a bit of hardware attached via USB that presents itself as a serial (COM) port. The strange behaviour is that if I start a cmd shell on the server via VNC, I can open the serial port. If I run a service and start it from there (telnet, jenkins) then I receive a "not found" error for it. IE: C:\Documents and Settings\some_user>echo 1 >COM4: C:\Documents and Settings\some_user> on the local cmd will work, and on the remote telnet will give: C:\Documents and Settings\some_user>echo 1 >COM4: The system cannot find the file specified. C:\Documents and Settings\some_user> I cannot see any security settings on the Device manager settings panel for this device.

  My power button is non responsive I am getting LED for charging. I've taken it apart before to change the dc jack and it was fine and a few months later it just powered off. I try to power back on and is goes to start up then shuts off. I just took it apart and came to find the ribbon cable connecting the power button/speakers cover is barely hanging on do I have to replace the whole thing or is there a way to replace the ribbon cable?

• computer freezes but music continues

  Recently I have had a problem where my computer will freeze completely but if I happen to be streaming Pandora in a tab that will continue playing. If I wait about 2-5 minutes it will eventually come back and start working normally. I also noticed that during the period that it is unresponsive that the HDD activity light stays lit the whole time, not flashing. I've ran memtest86+ and a diagnostic from Western Digital for my HDD model and none of them reported any errors. • How do I start Chrome using a specified "user profile"?

  I use the new built-in "Users" feature of Chrome to switch between Home/Work accounts easily. However, Chrome remembers the "last" user profile you had selected when launching new windows. This is a problem if I close down my "Home" profile last, because when I then click the Email shortcut on my taskbar, because it goes to mail.mycompany.com using my Home profile, and I'm not logged in. I'd like to change the shortcut to the company webmail to pass a switch that tells Chrome to always start as the "Default" user, regardless of the last one used. Note: I have tried user-data-dir, and this seems to do something very different, completely isolated from the Users functionality built in to Chrome. It's possible I'm using it wrong, but please test this before assuming it does the same thing and posting an answer ;-)

• Can you remap "C:\Program Files" like you can with "My Documents"?

  I'm not sure if this is possible, but I'm hoping you guys will know one way or the other! I'm going to be reinstalling windows xp, and the primary master IDE is a smaller 10 gig drive. I'm pretty sure that if I tried to install all my programs back onto the C:\ drive that they'd not all fit. Is it possible to get my Program Files directory to point to a partition on one of my larger drives, so I don't end up with some of my programs on C:\ and others on D:\, E:\, etc?

  i was updating my ipod classic tonight when for some stupid reason i checked the box which says "convert higher bit rate to 128 kbps aac". straight away it changed my audio amount from 67gb to 79gb and then started to sync, i stopped it right away as i thought the whole reason was to reduce space not add anymore to it. everytime i try to sync up now it keeps going back to try this same task and i dont know how to stop it apart from the obvious and cancelling the sync but then i cant update my ipod then? anybody got any ideas for me please? thanks in advance.

• Incrementing ticket numbers each time I print

  I have an excel sheet where I have a set 4 identical tickets to print per page which we use for stock takes. Rather then creating a huge document with 1000 pages for 4000 tickets each with their own unique ticket number (starting from 1) I would like to find a Macro or function which will print a page with 4 tickets on (1,2,3,4) then continue to print another with (5,6,7,8) and so on. I have found some code that people have already written but it has only applied to one number changing per page rather than 4 simultaneously and being a complete visual basic novice, I was unable to change the code to suit my preferences. If someone could explain simply how I could achieve this I would be very very grateful :)

• DNS Server address configured inside Router not working

  Well, I have an ISP router in which I have configured DNS Servers to use (Primary & Secondary) like Google DNS. It works just fine. But now I have setup a computer with DNS server (Simple DNS Plus). I got it working by settings my internal DNS Server IP Address in computer. i.e. 192.168.1.3 So, instead of settings my internal DNS IP Address in every computer in my network, I want to setup DNS Server into my router. So on every DHCP request, computer get DNS Server to use. So I configured it like this: Primary DNS: 192.168.1.3 Secondry DNS: (left blank) After applying and DNS Requests stop resolving. But strange part is DNS request does goes to DNS Server but maybe not returned back, because all DNS request were available in cache logs. I don't know why this is not working, let me know if you have any solution or wordaround for this. Thanks!   I have Windows 7 installed on the system and I want to create a separate WinPe bootable partition which system can fallback when things go wrong. Now Win7 does give this option and i might also edit the BCD store to make changes in the boot menu of Win7 or could use EasyBCD. I dont want to use these options as i need to customize hiding/unhiding of partitions at the time of booting etc. I search and found GRUB might the tool i am looking for. I want to use GRUB loader without any version of Linux installed on the system. Can someone guide me how i can install the GRUB on harddisk MBR and configure the bootmenu. I search internet and mostly i came across commands which search the GRUB on the harddisk because of existing linux installation and then try to repair it. In my case there is no Linux at all. I have Ubuntu 9.10 bootable CD/ OpenSUSE 11.2 liveCD and installation disc. Can i use them to install GRUB on my system?

• Forward Shibboleth Environment Variables to Tomcat via Apache

  I am using Shibbolethv2.3 with Apache web server and Tomcat application server. I am using Apache as a reverse proxy using mod_proxy.so. I am not able to forward the Shibboleth environment variables from Apache to Tomcat. I am able to forward the attributes in the headers but as already mentioned in the wiki this approach is not safe. I have tried forwarding the environment variables by the following directive : SetEnv AJP_username ${username} then at the Java side I can access the attribute by : request.getAttribute("username"); The strange thing here is that, I get a different value instead of the one set by Shibboleth. I get the Windows account name as a result. If I use any other attribute name, I get a null value. I have searched a lot and have run out of options. Please guide me towards the right solution. My setup details : Shibboleth version : 2.3 OS : Windows XP SP3 Webserver : Apache 2.2 Application Server : Tomcat 6 Proxy module : mod_proxy.so

• Process killing trouble

  I am trying to program a server software which involves a lot of testing on java / scala platform. Whenever i compile and execute the code. It starts listening on port 80. Sometimes i need to terminate it by Ctrl+C when it hangs. In that case, ubuntu is not freeing the port. So in order to run the process, i have to restart the machine. I see this at ps aux root 1924 0.0 0.0 5796 1660 pts/0 T 05:44 0:00 sudo scala - root 1925 0.2 1.5 491448 40796 pts/0 Tl 05:44 0:03 java -Xmx256M -Xms16M So process 1924 and 1925. I did sudo kill on both these. But then they keep on persisting even after a long time. sudo nmap -T Aggressive -A -v 127.0.0.1 -p 1-65000 Scanning localhost (127.0.0.1) [65000 ports] Discovered open port 80/tcp on 127.0.0.1 It means its still there ! sudo netstat --tcp --udp --listening --program tcp6 0 0 [::]:www [::]:* LISTEN 1925/java tcp6 0 0 ip6-localhost:ipp [::]:* LISTEN 1185/cupsd This means its 1925 - java How to kill it.
