  • Enabling mod_wsgi in Apache for a Django app on Gentoo

    - by hobbes3
    I installed Apache, Django, and mod_wsgi on Gentoo using emerge (on Amazon EC2). I know that the mod_wsgi is configured in /etc/apache2/modules.d/70_mod_wsgi.conf: <IfDefine WSGI> LoadModule wsgi_module modules/mod_wsgi.so </IfDefine> # vim: ts=4 filetype=apache So in my /etc/conf.d/apache I added the WSGI module: APACHE2_OPTS="-D DEFAULT_VHOST -D INFO -D SSL -D SSL_DEFAULT_VHOST -D LANGUAGE -D WSGI" But when I try to list the loaded module, mod_wsgi isn't listed. root ~ # apache2 -M | grep wsgi Syntax OK I also know that mod_wsgi isn't loading properly because the Apache configuration file doesn't recognize WSGIScriptAlias. By the way for Django to work I need to include a custom Apache configuration file. Where should I insert the line below? Include "/var/www/localhost/htdocs/mysite/apache/apache_django_wsgi.conf" I currently have that in the httpd.conf file but I feel like that file will get reseted whenever I upgrade Gentoo or related package. EDIT: it seems the mod_wsgi file is located in /usr/lib64/apache2/modules/mod_wsgi.so. Here is my detailed Apache settings: root@ip-99-99-99-99 /usr/portage/eclass # apache2 -V Server version: Apache/2.2.21 (Unix) Server built: Mar 7 2012 06:52:30 Server's Module Magic Number: 20051115:30 Server loaded: APR 1.4.5, APR-Util 1.3.12 Compiled using: APR 1.4.5, APR-Util 1.3.12 Architecture: 64-bit Server MPM: Prefork threaded: no forked: yes (variable process count) Server compiled with.... -D APACHE_MPM_DIR="server/mpm/prefork" -D APR_HAS_SENDFILE -D APR_HAS_MMAP -D APR_HAVE_IPV6 (IPv4-mapped addresses enabled) -D APR_USE_SYSVSEM_SERIALIZE -D APR_USE_PTHREAD_SERIALIZE -D APR_HAS_OTHER_CHILD -D AP_HAVE_RELIABLE_PIPED_LOGS -D DYNAMIC_MODULE_LIMIT=128 -D HTTPD_ROOT="/usr" -D SUEXEC_BIN="/usr/sbin/suexec" -D DEFAULT_PIDLOG="/var/run/httpd.pid" -D DEFAULT_SCOREBOARD="logs/apache_runtime_status" -D DEFAULT_LOCKFILE="/var/run/accept.lock" -D DEFAULT_ERRORLOG="logs/error_log" -D AP_TYPES_CONFIG_FILE="/etc/apache2/mime.types" -D SERVER_CONFIG_FILE="/etc/apache2/httpd.conf"

  • So now that Django 1.2 is officially out...

    - by Fedor
Since I have Django 1.1x on my Debian setup - how can I use virtualenv or similar and not have it mess up my system's default django version which in turn would break all my sites? Detailed instructions or a great tutorial link would very much be appreciated - please don't offer vague advice since I'm still a noob. Currently I store all my django projects in ~/django-sites and I am using Apache2 + mod_wsgi to deploy.

  • Django-Registration & Django-Profile, using your own custom form

    - by Issy
Hey All, I am making use of django-registration and django-profile to handle registration and profiles. I would like to create a profile for the user at the time of registration. I have created a custom registration form, and added that to the urls.py using the tutorial on: http://dewful.com/?p=70 The basic idea in the tutorial is to override the default registration form to create the profile at the same time. forms.py - In my profiles app from django import forms from registration.forms import RegistrationForm from django.utils.translation import ugettext_lazy as _ from profiles.models import UserProfile from registration.models import RegistrationProfile attrs_dict = { 'class': 'required' } class UserRegistrationForm(RegistrationForm): city = forms.CharField(widget=forms.TextInput(attrs=attrs_dict)) def save(self, profile_callback=None): new_user = RegistrationProfile.objects.create_inactive_user(username=self.cleaned_data['username'], password=self.cleaned_data['password1'], email=self.cleaned_data['email']) new_profile = UserProfile(user=new_user, city=self.cleaned_data['city']) new_profile.save() return new_user In urls.py from profiles.forms import UserRegistrationForm and url(r'^register/$', register, {'backend': 'registration.backends.default.DefaultBackend', 'form_class' : UserRegistrationForm}, name='registration_register'), The form is displayed, and i can enter in City, however it does not save or create the entry in the DB.

  • Django TemplateSyntaxError only on live server (templates exist)

    - by Tom
I'm getting a strange error that only occurs on the live server. My Django templates directory is set up like so base.html two-column-base.html portfolio index.html extranet base.html index.html The portfolio pages work correctly locally on multiple machines. They inherit from either the root base.html or two-column-base.html. However, now that I've posted them to the live box (local machines are Windows, live is Linux), I get a TemplateSyntaxError: "Caught TemplateDoesNotExist while rendering: base.html" when I try to load any portfolio pages. It seems to be a case where the extends tag won't work in that root directory (???). Even if I do a direct_to_template on two-column-base.html (which extends base.html), I get that error. The extranet pages all work perfectly, but those templates all live inside the /extranet folder and inherit from /extranet/base.html. Possible issues I've checked: file permissions on the server are fine the template directory is correct on the live box (I'm using os.path.dirname(os.path.realpath(__file__)) to make things work across machines) files exist and the /templates directories exactly match my local copy removing the {% extends %} block from the top of any broken template causes the templates to render without a problem manually starting a shell session and calling get_template on any of the files works, but trying to render it blows up with the same exception on any of the extended templates. Doing the same with base.html, it renders perfectly (base.html also renders via direct_to_template) Django 1.2, Python 2.6 on Webfaction. Apologies in advance because this is my 3rd or 4th "I'm doing something stupid" question in a row. The only x-factor I can think of is this is my first time using Mercurial instead ofsvn. Not sure how I could have messed things up via that. EDIT: One possible source of problems: local machine is Python 2.5, live is 2.6. Here's a traceback of me trying to render 'two-column-base.html', which extends 'base.html'. Both files are in the same directory, so if it can find the first, it can find the second. c is just an empty Context object. >>> render_to_string('two-column-base.html', c) Traceback (most recent call last): File "<console>", line 1, in <module> File "/home/lightfin/webapps/django/lib/python2.6/django/template/loader.py", line 186, in render_to_string return t.render(context_instance) File "/home/lightfin/webapps/django/lib/python2.6/django/template/__init__.py", line 173, in render return self._render(context) File "/home/lightfin/webapps/django/lib/python2.6/django/template/__init__.py", line 167, in _render return self.nodelist.render(context) File "/home/lightfin/webapps/django/lib/python2.6/django/template/__init__.py", line 796, in render bits.append(self.render_node(node, context)) File "/home/lightfin/webapps/django/lib/python2.6/django/template/debug.py", line 72, in render_node result = node.render(context) File "/home/lightfin/webapps/django/lib/python2.6/django/template/loader_tags.py", line 103, in render compiled_parent = self.get_parent(context) File "/home/lightfin/webapps/django/lib/python2.6/django/template/loader_tags.py", line 100, in get_parent return get_template(parent) File "/home/lightfin/webapps/django/lib/python2.6/django/template/loader.py", line 157, in get_template template, origin = find_template(template_name) File "/home/lightfin/webapps/django/lib/python2.6/django/template/loader.py", line 138, in find_template raise TemplateDoesNotExist(name) TemplateSyntaxError: Caught TemplateDoesNotExist while rendering: base.html I'm wondering if this is somehow related to the template caching that was just added to Django. • Use multiple WSGI mount points in Apache with an Nginx reverse proxy

    - by Thomas
I am trying to set up multiple virtual hosts on the same server with Nginx and Apache and have run into a curious configuration issue. I have nginx is configured with a generic upstream to apache. upstream backend { server 1.1.1.1:8080; } I'm trying to set up multiple subdomains in nginx that hit different mountpoints in apache. Each would act like the following examples. server { listen 80; server_name foo.yoursite.com; location / { proxy_pass http://backend/bar/; include /etc/nginx/proxy.conf; } ... } server { listen 80; server_name delta.yoursite.com; location / { proxy_pass http://backend/gamma/; include /etc/nginx/proxy.conf; } ... } These mountpoints are pointed at django projects, however each of the url entries are coming back prepended with the apache mountpoint path. So, if I called the django url entry for foo.yoursite.com/wiki/biz/, django appears to be returning foo.yoursite.com/bar/wiki/biz/. Similarly, if I call for the url entry for delta.yoursite.com/wiki/biz/, I get delta.yoursite.com/gamma/wiki/biz/. Is there any way get rid of the prefix being returned on the url entries by django and apache?

  • How to debug slow queries in Django+Postgres

    - by lacker
My database queries from Django are starting to take 1-2 seconds and I'm having trouble figuring out why. Not too big a site, about 1-2 requests per second (that hit Django; static files are just served from nginx.) The thing that confuses me is, I can replicate the slowness in the Django shell using debug mode. But when I issue the exact same queries at an sql prompt they are fast. It takes about a second for a query to return, but when I check connection.queries it reports the time as under 10 ms. Here's an example (from the Django shell): >>> p = PlayerData.objects.get(uid="100000521952372") >>> a = time.time(); p.save(); print time.time() - a 1.96812295914 >>> for d in connection.queries: print d["time"] ... 0.002 0.000 0.000 How can I figure out where this extra time is being spent? I'm using Apache+mod_wsgi in daemon mode, but this happens with just the django shell as well, so I figure it is not apache-related.

  • Django apache + mod_wsgi with virtualenv

    - by ArgsKwargs
I have some questions running multiple Django sites on a VPS I have a server that uses openPanel to automatically create VirtualHosts within apache2. My ideal situation is that I would have multiple virtualenvs with different dependencies installed so the python dist-packages directory isn't contaminated for different Django sites. For example: /home/user/virtualenv1 /home/user/virtualenv2 My django applications reside at /var/www, so For example: /var/www/djangosite1 /var/www/djangosite2 Now I've read upon openPanel docs and figured out the best thing todo is create a django.conf file inside the mydomain.com.inc folder, which looks something like: /etc/apache2/openpanel.d/mydomain.com.inc/django.conf DocumentRoot /var/www/djangosite1/project WSGIScriptAlias / /var/www/djangosite1/project/wsgi.py WSGIDaemonProcess mydomain python-path=/home/user/virtualenv1/lib/python2.6/site-packages <Directory /var/www/djangosite1/project> Order allow, deny Allow from all </Directory> Alias /static /var/www/djangosite1/project/static-root Now my problem is that this setup seems unable to find the virtualenv site-packages thus not recognizing any dependencies available in the given virtualenv Also, commenting out this line doesn't seem to break or change a thing: WSGIDaemonProcess mydomain python-path=/home/user/virtualenv1/lib/python2.6/site-packages For example: > service apache2 start ImportError: No module named South When I install South outside the virtualenv everything works

  • Could somebody give me a high-level technical overview of WSGI details behind the scenes vs other we

    - by orokusaki
Firstly: I understand what WSGI is and how to use it I understand what "other" methods (Apache mod-python, fcgi, et al) are, and how to use them I understand their practical differences What I don't understand is how each of the various "other" methods work compared to something like UWSGI, behind the scenes. Does your server (Nginx, etc) route the request to your WSGI application and UWSGI creates a new Python interpreter for each request routed to it? How much different is is from the other more traditional / monkey patched methods is WSGI (aside from the different, easier Python interface that WSGI offers)? What light bulb moment am I missing?

  • Odd behavior in Django Form (readonly field/widget)

    - by jamida
I'm having a problem with a test app I'm writing to verify some Django functionality. The test app is a small "grade book" application that is currently using Alex Gaynor's readonly field functionality http://lazypython.blogspot.com/2008/12/building-read-only-field-in-django.html There are 2 problems which may be related. First, when I flop the comment on these 2 lines below: # myform = GradeForm(data=request.POST, instance=mygrade) myform = GradeROForm(data=request.POST, instance=mygrade) it works like I expect, except of course that the student field is changeable. When the comments are the shown way, the "studentId" field is displayed as a number (not the name, problem 1) and when I hit submit I get an error saying that studentId needs to be a Student instance. I'm at a loss as to how to fix this. I'm not wedded to Alex Gaynor's code. ANY code will work. I'm relatively new to both Python and Django, so the hints I've seen on websites that say "making a read-only field is easy" are still beyond me. // models.py class Student(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length=50) parent = models.CharField(max_length=50) def __unicode__(self): return self.name class Grade(models.Model): studentId = models.ForeignKey(Student) finalGrade = models.CharField(max_length=3) # testbed.grades.readonly is alex gaynor's code from testbed.grades.readonly import ReadOnlyField class GradeROForm(ModelForm): studentId = ReadOnlyField() class Meta: model=Grade class GradeForm(ModelForm): class Meta: model=Grade // views.py def modifyGrade(request, student): student = Student.objects.get(name=student) mygrade = Grade.objects.get(studentId=student) if request.method == "POST": # myform = GradeForm(data=request.POST, instance=mygrade) myform = GradeROForm(data=request.POST, instance=mygrade) if myform.is_valid(): grade = myform.save() info = "successfully updated %s" % grade.studentId else: # myform=GradeForm(instance=mygrade) myform=GradeROForm(instance=mygrade) return render_to_response('grades/modifyGrade.html',locals()) // template <p>{{ info }}</p> <form method="POST" action=""> <table> {{ myform.as_table }} </table> <input type="submit" value="Submit"> </form> // Alex Gaynor's code from django import forms from django.utils.html import escape from django.utils.safestring import mark_safe from django.forms.util import flatatt class ReadOnlyWidget(forms.Widget): def render(self, name, value, attrs): final_attrs = self.build_attrs(attrs, name=name) if hasattr(self, 'initial'): value = self.initial return mark_safe("<span %s>%s</span>" % (flatatt(final_attrs), escape(value) or '')) def _has_changed(self, initial, data): return False class ReadOnlyField(forms.FileField): widget = ReadOnlyWidget def __init__(self, widget=None, label=None, initial=None, help_text=None): forms.Field.__init__(self, label=label, initial=initial, help_text=help_text, widget=widget) def clean(self, value, initial): self.widget.initial = initial return initial

  • Simple Observation in Django: How Can I Correctly Modify The `attrs` sent to __new__ of a Django Mod

    - by DGGenuine
Hello, I'm a strong proponent of the observer pattern, and this is what I'd like to be able to do in my Django models.py: class AModel(Model): __metaclass__ = SomethingMagical @post_save(AnotherModel) @classmethod def observe_another_model_saved(klass, sender, instance, created, **kwargs): pass @pre_init('YetAnotherModel') @classmethod def observe_yet_another_model_initializing(klass, sender, *args, **kwargs): pass @post_delete('DifferentApp.SomeModel') @classmethod def observe_some_model_deleted(klass, sender, **kwargs): pass This would connect a signal with sender = the decorator's argument and receiver = the decorated method. Right now my signal connection code all exists in __init__.py which is okay, but a little unmaintainable. I want this code all in one place, the models.py file. Thanks to helpful feedback from the community I'm very close (I think.) (I'm using a metaclass solution instead of the class decorator solution in the previous question/answer because you can't set attributes on classmethods, which I need.) I am having a strange error I don't understand. At the end of my post are the contents of a models.py that you can pop into a fresh project/application to see the error. Set your database to sqlite and add the application to installed apps. This is the error: Validating models... Unhandled exception in thread started by Traceback (most recent call last): File "/Library/Python/2.6/site-packages//lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/core/management/commands/runserver.py", line 48, in inner_run File "/Library/Python/2.6/site-packages/django/core/management/base.py", line 253, in validate raise CommandError("One or more models did not validate:\n%s" % error_text) django.core.management.base.CommandError: One or more models did not validate: local.myothermodel: 'my_model' has a relation with model MyModel, which has either not been installed or is abstract. I've indicated a few different things you can comment in/out to fix the error. First, if you don't modify the attrs sent to the metaclass's __new__, then the error does not arise. (Note even if you copy the dictionary element by element into a new dictionary, it still fails; only using the exact attrs dictionary works.) Second, if you reference the first model by class rather than by string, the error also doesn't arise regardless of what you do in __new__. I appreciate your help. I'll be githubbing the solution if and when it works. Maybe other people would enjoy a simplified way to use Django signals to observe application happenings. #models.py from django.db import models from django.db.models.base import ModelBase from django.db.models import signals import pdb class UnconnectedMethodWrapper(object): sender = None method = None signal = None def __init__(self, signal, sender, method): self.signal = signal self.sender = sender self.method = method def post_save(sender): return _make_decorator(signals.post_save, sender) def _make_decorator(signal, sender): def decorator(view): return UnconnectedMethodWrapper(signal, sender, view) return decorator class ConnectableModel(ModelBase): """ A meta class for any class that will have static or class methods that need to be connected to signals. • django, mod_wsgi, MySQL High CPU - Problems

    - by Red Rover
Good Evening, and thank you for reading this post. I am having a problem with Django after migrating the dB from SQLlite to MySQL. Initially, for the first 48hours, all ran well. • Error in django using Apache & mod_wsgi

    - by Ignacio
Hey, I've been doing some changes to my django develpment env, as some of you suggested. So far I've managed to configure and run it successfully with postgres. Now I'm trying to run the app using apache2 and mod_wsgi, but I ran into this little problem after I followed the guidelines from the django docs. When I access localhost/myapp/tasks this error raises: Request Method: GET Request URL: http://localhost/myapp/tasks/ Exception Type: TemplateSyntaxError Exception Value: Caught an exception while rendering: argument 1 must be a string or unicode object Original Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/django/template/debug.py", line 71, in render_node result = node.render(context) File "/usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/django/template/defaulttags.py", line 126, in render len_values = len(values) File "/usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/django/db/models/query.py", line 81, in __len__ self._result_cache = list(self.iterator()) File "/usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/django/db/models/query.py", line 238, in iterator for row in self.query.results_iter(): File "/usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/django/db/models/sql/query.py", line 287, in results_iter for rows in self.execute_sql(MULTI): File "/usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/django/db/models/sql/query.py", line 2369, in execute_sql cursor.execute(sql, params) File "/usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/django/db/backends/util.py", line 19, in execute return self.cursor.execute(sql, params) TypeError: argument 1 must be a string or unicode object ... ... ... And then it highlights a {% for t in tasks %} template tag, like the source of the problem is there, but it worked fine on the built-in server. The view associated with that page is really simple, just fetch all Task objects. And the template just displays them on a table. Also, some pages get rendered ok. Don't want to fill this Question with code, so if you need some more info I'd be glad to provide it. Thanks

  • Django deployment - can't import app.urls

    - by hora
I just moved a django project to a deployment server from my dev server, and I'm having some issues deploying it. My apache config is as follows: <Location "/"> Order allow, deny Allow from all SetHandler python-program PythonHandler django.core.handlers.modpython SetEnv DJANGO_SETTINGS_MODULE project.settings PythonDebug On PythonPath "['/home/django/'] + sys.path" </Location> Django does work, since it renders the Django debug views, but I get the following error: ImportError at / No module named app.urls And here is all the information Django gives me: Request Method: GET Request URL: http://myserver.com/ Django Version: 1.1.1 Python Version: 2.6.5 Installed Applications: ['django.contrib.auth', 'django.contrib.contenttypes', 'django.contrib.sessions', 'django.contrib.sites', 'django.contrib.admin', 'django.contrib.admindocs', 'project.app'] Installed Middleware: ('django.middleware.common.CommonMiddleware', 'django.contrib.sessions.middleware.SessionMiddleware', 'django.contrib.auth.middleware.AuthenticationMiddleware') Traceback: File "/usr/lib64/python2.6/site-packages/django/core/handlers/base.py" in get_response 83. request.path_info) File "/usr/lib64/python2.6/site-packages/django/core/urlresolvers.py" in resolve 218. sub_match = pattern.resolve(new_path) File "/usr/lib64/python2.6/site-packages/django/core/urlresolvers.py" in resolve 216. for pattern in self.url_patterns: File "/usr/lib64/python2.6/site-packages/django/core/urlresolvers.py" in _get_url_patterns 245. patterns = getattr(self.urlconf_module, "urlpatterns", self.urlconf_module) File "/usr/lib64/python2.6/site-packages/django/core/urlresolvers.py" in _get_urlconf_module 240. self._urlconf_module = import_module(self.urlconf_name) File "/usr/lib64/python2.6/site-packages/django/utils/importlib.py" in import_module 35. __import__(name) Exception Type: ImportError at / Exception Value: No module named app.urls Any ideas as to why I get an import error?

  • Django "comment_was_flagged" signal

    - by tsoporan
Hello, This is my first time working with django signals and I would like to hook the "comment_was_flagged" signal provided by the comments app to notify me when a comment is flagged. This is my code, but it doesn't seem to work, am I missing something? from django.contrib.comments.signals import comment_was_flagged from django.core.mail import send_mail def comment_flagged_notification(sender, **kwargs): send_mail('testing moderation', 'testing', 'test@localhost', ['[email protected]',]) comment_was_flagged.connect(comment_flagged_notification) (I am just testing the email for now, but I have assured the email is sending properly.) Thanks!

  • Deploying Django at Dreamhost

    - by Imran
    I'm trying to get the Poll tutorial working at my Dreamhost account (I don't have any prior experience of deploying Django). I downloaded the script I found here (http://gabrielfalcao.com/2008/12/02/hosting-and-deploying-django-apps-on-dreamhost/) at my home directory and executed it. Now I have Python 2.5 and Django in ~/.myroot/ and my Django projects directory is ~/projects/ Here's the content of ~/projects/ directory (I copied the polls/ and and templates/polls/ directories myself). projects/ |-- admin_media -> /home/imran2140/.myroot/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/django/contrib/admin/media |-- dispatch.fcgi |-- polls | |-- __init__.py | |-- __init__.pyc | |-- admin.py | |-- admin.pyc | |-- models.py | |-- models.pyc | |-- polls.db | |-- urls.py | |-- urls.pyc | |-- views.py | `-- views.pyc |-- script_templates | |-- dispatch.template | `-- htaccess.template `-- templates `-- polls |-- detail.html |-- index.html `-- results.html 5 directories, 17 files Now what should I do to get the Polls app working? Update I finally got a "Hello World" Django app working with Passanger WSGI. It worked fine with both Server's default Python 2.3.5 and my installed Python 2.5.2.   • django-multilingual and switching between languages on template side

    - by israkir
I am trying to use django-multilingual and setup it properly. But what I found is that everything is clear for django-multilingual except a template usage example. I just started to use django and I don't know, maybe because of this reason, I cannot figure out how to switch between languages on template side. Is there any example that you can give or any 'more' clear source/documentation about this?

  • Edit/show Primary Key in Django Admin

    - by emcee
It appears Django hides fields that are flagged Primary Key from being displayed/edited in the Django admin interface. Let's say I'd like to input data in which I may or may not want to specify a primary key. How would I go about displaying primary keys in Django-admin, and how could I make specifying it optional? Many thanks in advance, beloved hive-mind.

  • Django Admin Actions missing

    - by Andrew C
One of my Django sites is missing the Django Admin Action bar shown here: http://docs.djangoproject.com/en/dev/ref/contrib/admin/actions/#ref-contrib-admin-actions There is no checkbox next to each row and no Action select box near the top of the page. This is happening on every model. I have several sites running Django 1.1, and they all show the Admin Actions, so it feels like a local configuration issue. Anyone seen this before?

  • Matplotlib and WSGI/mod_python not working on Apache.

    - by Luiz C.
Everything works as supposed to on the Django development server. In Apache, the django app also works except when matplotlib is used. Here's the error I get: No module named multiarray. Exception Type: ImportError Exception Value: No module named multiarray Exception Location: /usr/share/pyshared/numpy/core/numerictypes.py in <module>, line 81 Python Executable: /usr/bin/python Python Version: 2.6.4 From the python shell, both statements work: import numpy.core.multiarray and import multiarray. Any ideas? Thanks As I'm looking over the numpy files, I found the multiarray module, which has an extension of 'so'. My guess, is that mod_python is not reading these files.
