  • Can't connect to Gmail server via Mail.app in Mac OS X 10.6.3

    I've added my gmail account to Mail.app It worked find in previous days, and downloaded thousands of previous mails. But now, it can't connect to gmail server for days. What's the matter here? Here is my config in account setting: Account Type: Gmail IMAP Email Address: [email protected] Incoming Mail Server: imap.gmail.com User Name: [email protected] Password: xxxxxx And also, is there any means that I can view the transaction log of Mail.app? Maybe there I can find more information.

  • Setting a mail server without root?

    Is it possible to setup a mail server on a Linux machine without root permissions? I want to be able to create two aliases for a given mail ID. But if I remember correctly, it is no possible to do this without root privileges because I need to edit the configuration file and then restart the mail server. Does anyone have a suggestion to get around this problem?

  • php mail() function painfully slow on local development machine

    Background: If you have set up a local apache server for development purposes you may have run into the problem where sendmail takes a long time (at least one minute) to send emails. This is extremely frustrating if you are trying to debug a problem with an email you have generated. There are several forum posts on the internet that discuss this problem. However, none of theme described what to do in enough detail for my limited knowledge. Here are the steps that worked for me: 1) find your hostname (in case you've forgotten it) using this command: :~$ cat /hosts/hostname myhostname 2) edit the file /etc/hosts and make sure the first line is the following: 127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost myhostname 3) edit the sendmail configuration file ( /etc/mail/sendmail.cf in Ubuntu) and Uncomment the line #O HostsFile=/etc/hosts 4) Restart the computer. The computer should boot up much faster now and the mail() function should return almost immediately. HOWEVER, the emails won't actually be sent unless you follow step 5. 5) You must new use the sendmail '-f' option whenever using the mail function. For example: mail('[email protected]', 'the subject', 'the message', null, '[email protected]'); My question for my fellow serverfaulters is: What further changes can be made so that I don't have to use the sendmail -f option? Although it's not very hard to add the -f option, it is a problem when your CMS (such as Drupal) does not use the -f option when sending mail. You would need to hack a core module to add this option.

    I've started getting an error on my windows machine when sending an email through Windows Mail, using Mobile Me: An unknown error has occurred. Subject 'Test' Server Error: 503 Server Response: 503 5.7.0 TLS already in use. Server: 'smtp.me.com' Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC65 Protocol: SMTP Port: 587 Secure(SSL): Yes I've checked and double-checked my credentials, and outbound mail settings, and they're correct. I've deleted and re-added the account, and I get the same issue. I'm able to receive email fine. Note - this issue only affects one PC - my laptop has no issues. Any suggestions on what Error 503 means, or how I would fix this?

    I run a win 2k8 a/d server and an win 2k8 exchange 07 server I have a group called 'No Internet Mail', i made it a distribution group. I tried to setup a transport rule on the exchange server that is configured as follows for outgoing: from a member of no internet mail and sent to users outside the organization redirect the message to administrator and send message refused, forwarded to administrator. Please talk to management for external email use. however , when i enable this it forwards everyones emails to me regardless if they are a member of the no internet mail group or not. not sure what im doing wrong, thanks in advanced.

  • There is no attachment in the sent mail by iPhone

    I'm trying to send a recorded sound file as attachment with MFMailComposeViewController. The sound file is OK. The picker shows the correct file name, shows the audio file icon as attachment, sends the mail, but there is no attachment in the result. I attached below the source of the sent mail. There is a "text/plain" content type part instead of "Content-Disposition: attachment;" as expected. This is my code code to define the path and attach the audio file.     Hi, I had a look in the reference doc, and Spring seems to have pretty good support for sending mail. However, I need to login to a mail account, read the messages, and download any attachments. Is downloading mail attachments supported by the Spring mail API? I know you can do this with the Java Mail API, but in the past I've found that very verbose and unpleasant to work with. EDIT: I've received several replies pointing towards tutorials that describe how to send mail with attachments, but what I'm asking about is how to read attachments from received mail. Cheers, Don

    I'm developing a simple send mail app in C#, using my CMail Server: MailMessage mail = new MailMessage("[email protected]", "[email protected]"); mail.Subject = "Sub"; mail.Body = "Hi!"; SmtpClient smtp = new SmtpClient("MyServer"); System.Net.NetworkCredential cred = new System.Net.NetworkCredential("user", "pass"); smtp.UseDefaultCredentials = false; smtp.Credentials = cred; smtp.Send(mail); Obviously i ommited my account information, so, this code throws me an Authentication Exception for some reason. I first thought that the code was wrong, so i change the info to my gmail account and everything goes fine, with the only SMTP server that i having trouble is with the CMail. Is there a problem with .NET and CMail's SMTP ? Thanks for the help and comments!

  • How do I stop mail.app and its nag screen from opening upon login in OS X if I don't use it

    Currently whenever I start OS X (10.6.2), mail.app starts up with a "Welcome to Mail" dialog, asking me to create an account by inputting name, email address, and password. If I cancel this dialog, the app just hangs and I have to force quit it. I do not use the mail.app and I do not want it to start up with OS X. I have checked the login items and it is NOT present in the login items list for my account. I have also ctrl+clicked the doc icon that appears and confirmed there is no option enabled for "Run at Login". If I go ahead and just spam continue through the dialogs for a new account, I can get through to actually using Mail and accessing preferences. I cannot find a startup option in Mail preferences. After I have completed this, if I now restart, Mail does NOT open automatically. However as soon as I delete the account that I created, it once again goes back to popping up a "Welcome to Mail" dialog every time I startup and login. As best as I can tell, it seems OS X checks if an account exists in the Mail app, and if it does not, it will always start up a "Welcome to Mail" dialog on login, regardless if the Mail app is set to run via login items, etc. This is incredibly frustrating given I have no intention of using the Mail app. I realize I can easily leave account info in there (perhaps even disable the account via preferences), but this behavior is ridiculous. ajgs

  • Sendmail Failing to Forward Locally Addressed Mail to Exchange Server

    I've recently gained employment as a web developer with a small company. What they neglected to tell me upon hire was that I would be administrating the server along with my other daily duties. Now, truth be told, I'm not clueless when it comes to these things, but this is my first rodeo working with a rack server/console.. However, I'm confident that I will be able to work through any solutions you provide. Short Description: When a customer places an order via our (Magento CE 1.8.1.0) website, a copy of said order is supposed to be BCC'd to our sales manager. I say supposed because this was a working feature before the old administrator left. Long Description: Shortly after I started, we had a server crash which required a server restart. After restart, we noticed a few features on our site weren't working, but all those have been cleaned up except this one. I had to create an account on our server for root access. When a customer places an order, our sites software (Magento CE 1.8.1.0) is configured to BCC the customers order email to our sales manager. We use a Microsoft Exchange 2007 Server for our mail, which is hosted on a different machine (in-house) that I don't have access to ATM, but I'm sure I could if needed. As far as I can tell, all other external emails work.. Only INTERNAL email addresses fail to deliver. I know this because I've also tested my own internal address via our website. I set up an account with an internal email, made a test order, and never received the email. I changed my email for the account to an external GMail account, and received emails as expected. Let's dive into the logs and config's. For privacy/security reasons, names have been changed to the following: domain.com = Our Top Level Domain. email.local = Our Exchange Server. example.com = ANY other TLD.   • How to remove the Junk E-mail folder from Outlook?

    Is it possible to do this? I'm using Outlook with my GMail account, and as such I don't really need/want the Junk E-mail folder as GMail does a sufficiently good job in filtering out the spam. I've tried using both another email client (Thunderbird) and the GMail web app to remove the folder, but Outlook just recreates it the next time it starts up. If I can't remove it, is there a way to map the folder Outlook is using to the GMail/Spam folder instead?

  • Messages don’t always appear in Mail.app

    I asked this question on serverfault, but it was correctly suggested that superuser is better -- and I agree: My wife and I share a Mac and use different accounts. We both use Apple's standard Mail.app. We can also get to our email accounts via SquirrelMail that our webhost provides. Both SquirrelMail and Mail.app are connecting via IMAP. My wife was the first to notice that not all messages were getting to the Mail.app. She would check the Mac (our main machine) and then a little while later check mail from another machine via SquirrelMail and see messages there that should have been on the Mac. She would go back and those messages would never show up. Lately, I have been seeing the same thing, though less often. I can't reproduce it, or just look at a message to see if they haven't been moved over. I've looked in Junk, etc. and the Mac simply never sees those messages via IMAP. Does anyone have a guess to something I could poke around at?

  • Testing a method that sends e-mail without sending the mail

The problem I have is that I don't want test specific code in the class (ie. if (testMode) return; instead of sending the mail) I don't know lots about DI, but I considered passing a mock IMailer into MethodUnderTest except that it overrides the base class, and no other class that derives from Base needs an IMailer object (I don't want to force implementers of Base to take an unnecessary IMailer in MethodUnderTest) What else can I do? (note: IMail and IMailer are part of an external library for sending e-mail. It's written in house, so I can modify it all I like if necessary, though I can't see a need to in this situation)

My problem now is, if I try to send around 300 emails (each with a 500k attachment) the app starts hanging around 95% thru the process.   • Recovering OS X Mail Accounts Lost in Crash

    I had a hard crash on my Mac PowerBook and when I restarted, Mail came up with only my MobileMe account still available and I cannot figure out how to restore the other eight email accounts I have. The directories in ~/Library/Mail all seem to be there. I even did an rsync of the modified .plist files from a TimeMachine backup of the directory from before the crash (unfortunately, I was on travel, so the backup is more than a week old and I'd like to try and recover from that point without having to entirely restore from TimeMachine). I also did a fix permissions. So my questions are where exactly is the account information for Mac Mail kept? Any thoughts of what might have caused the failure? Why does only MobileMe come up? Any other thoughts on how to fix things?

  • Sync Windows Live Mail between two computers

    Hi, I have a laptop where I have been using Windows Live Mail as my email application for the last year. Yesterday I got a dell desktop as well and I am desperatly trying to set up so my desktop and laptop sync the email between each other. Im using Super Flexible Synchronizer to sync the email storage folder to a NAS on my network, so when setting up the desktop naturally I set it up to download all from the NAS. But each time I open Windows Live Mail on the new machine, some emails suddenly come in duplicates, one is read, the other is not. I have ran through the registry on the new machine and updated an ID i found, in 3 places, one being: C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts{blah blah blah}\DBStore\contacts.edb Still doesnt seem to be enough. Does anyone have any tips or ideas how to sync Windows Live Mail between two computers without duplicates and weird behaviour etc. grateful for your help, jesper

  • Electronic Postage provider compatible with Microsoft Word Mail Merge

    We're looking for an e-postage provider that is capable of working with the Mail Merge function in Microsoft Word 2007. Every now and then we extract addresses from our database to mail letters or notices. We use Mail Merge in Word 2007 to print the address information straight to the envelopes and then run all the envelopes through a Pitney Bowes Postage Meter. It would save us a huge step if we could somehow get an e-postage provider where we can just print out the postage straight to the envelopes along with the addresses at the same time. Anyone know of such a provider or a better solution?

  • php mail not arrives at gmail, not at local server

    The php mail function I am using does not work completely. It will sent mails to gmail easy enough. However, emails routed directly to my internally hosted exchange server are not getting through. The servers/domains are setup is as follows. URLs are registered with Network solutions (www.independentsservice.com & www.isco.net) NS directs all traffic to our ISP (Socket.net). Socket directs as follows: Mail to our local server FTP to our local server HTTP to our website hosted on Chihost.com Traffic to our local server goes through a Watchguard firewall which routes mail traffic to our locally hosted Exchange server. Is there some reason why exchange won't accept these emails? Thanks!
