  • How to deploy a Java Swing application with an embedded JavaDB database?

    I have implemented an Java Swing application that uses an embedded JavaDB database. The database need to be stored somewhere and the database tables need to be created at the first run. What is the preferred way to do these procedures? Should I always create the database in the local directory, and first check if the database file exist, and if it doesn't exist let the user create the tables (or at least show a message that the tables will be created). Or should I let the user choose a path? but then I have to save the path somewhere. Should I save the path with Preferences.systemRoot();, and check if that variable is set on startup? If the user choses a path and save it in the Preferences, can I get any problems with user permissions? or should it be safe wherever the user store the database? Or how do I handle this? Any other suggestions for this procedure?

  • How do I display the current value of an Android Preference in the Preference summary?

    This must come up very often. When the user is editing preferences in an Android app, I'd like them to be able to see the currently set value of the preference in the Preference summary. Example: if I have a Preference setting for "Discard old messages" that specifies the number of days after which messages need to be cleaned up. In the PreferenceActivity I'd like the user to see: "Discard old messages" <- title "Clean up messages after x days" <- summary where x is the current Preference value Extra credit: make this reusable, so I can easily apply it to all my preferences regardless of their type (so that it work with EditTextPreference, ListPreference etc. with minimal amount of coding).

  • Emulating Preference look/feel with LinearLayout

    I really like the look and feel of the Preference UI items and want to replicate that in my application. Basically I've got an Activity with a couple LinearLayouts set to be focusable. When they are focused, I want them to turn green (like Preferences do). Any idea how to apply that style to my LinearLayouts? Note: The LinearLayouts are essentially going to be clickable 'buttons' to launch a separate activity. They are NOT actual preferences or buttons, although they need to look/act similar to them.)

    Hi all, I'm trying to develop a firefox toolbar ;) so my structure is In the options.xul is an PrefWindow which i'm opening over an <toolbarbutton oncommand="esbTb_OpenPreferences()"/> function esbTb_OpenPreferences() { window.openDialog("chrome://Toolbar/content/options.xul", "einstellungen", "chrome,titlebar,toolbar,centerscreen,modal", this);} so in my preferences i can set some checkboxes which indicates what links are presented in my toolbar. So when the preferences window is Closed or the "Ok" button is hitted I want to raise an event or an function which updates via DOM my toolbar. So this is the function which is called when the toolbar is loaded. So what i'm trying to do is to change the visibile links in my toolbar during the runtime and I don't get it how I should do that... thanks in advance

    Hi. I am using following code in preferences page in android to show a list of items. The list and values are located in a file at location "app/res/xml/time.xml" <ListPreference android:title="Time unit list" android:summary="Select the time unit" android:dependency="Main_Option" android:key="listPref" android:defaultValue="1" android:entries="?xml:time/timet" android:entryValues="@xml:time/timet_values" /> The code for the time.xml is as follow: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <resources> <string-array name="timet"> <item>seconds</item> <item>minutes</item> <item>hours</item> </string-array> <string-array name="timet_values"> <item>3600</item> <item>60</item> <item>1</item> </string-array> </resources> I am not able to reference these values in my preference xml file. (The code snippet above). It gives an error. How can I specify packaged path for the List preferences entry and entry_values Any help is appreciated. Cheers

  • Why am I getting a ClassCastException here?

    I'm creating an android application and i'm trying to use a PreferenceActivity. I'm getting the java.lang.ClassCastException: java.lang.String error when it gets to this line return PreferenceManager.getDefaultSharedPreferences(context).getInt(USER_TERM, USER_TERM_DEF); I thought it might be because I'm not converting it properly from it's string value in the EditText box to the int I need but I can't figure out how to fix this, or is that even the cause? I'm flummoxed.   • Convert Custom Firefox Setup to Firefox Portable?

    I have a pretty awesome firefox set up and spent a lot of time getting it perfect. Is there any way that anyone knows about to convert the entire configuration to portable? Programs like MozBackup are great for backing up the complete set up, but you can't restore a Firefox profile to Firefox portable (maybe there is a workaround to fake it out? or possibly another method?) In case anyone is interested here is the gist of the best add-ons I've found: Autopager (scroll down google and other multi page results without clicking next) Coral IE Tab (IE in firefox - in case a website 'insists' that you use IE) Cyber search (search google straight from the address bar - VERY HELPFUL) Download StatusBar (display progress of downloads in the bottom of ff - no annoying popups FireFTP (erases need for an external FTP client - opens in a tab) Gmail manager (if you use multiple gmail accounts) Session Manager (saving multiple sessions of tabs - ff session recover) Surf Canyon (pull relevant stuff out of the depths of search results - even from craigslist Tab Mix Plus (ESSENTIAL - tab behavior customization - have multiple rows of tabs I also have it set up so you can type 'g test' in the address bar and ff will pull up the google results for 'test'. Similarly have it set up for guitar tabs (tab), facebook (f), wikipedia (w), google maps from my house (gmhome), torrents (tor), ticketmaster (t), rotten tomatoes (rt), craiglist (c) plus about 20 other sites.

  • claws-mail suddenly does not recognize my .claws-mail folder

    Hi I turned my computer on today like any other day, and fired up my email-client claws-mail. However, instead of showing me my inbox, it just pops up the new-account wizard, as though my .claws-mail folder did not exist! I've double-checked that it's there, and that it (seems to) contain everything that it should. I tried running claws-mail from the terminal to see if it returned any useful messages about why it couldn't find my email account, but no dice... For reference, this is CM version 3.7.2 running on Gentoo kernel 2.6.31-gentoo-r6 (x86_64) Any clues as to how to get my beloved inbox/config back? Thanks!

  • Broke NetBeans file associations in Windows XP how do I get them back?

    I broke my file association in XP... Does anyone have any clue how to fix it? When I right click and select Open With... the application I want to use (NetBeans) to open the file is not on the list... and when I browse for it it won't let me select it (well it does but then won't add it to the list). The way I broke it is by installing 6.7 and then uninstalling 6.5.... since then my file associations have all been broken. I even tried uninstalling NetBeans and reinstalling it again... no luck... I even went as far as adding my own action called "OpenIt" to the file types I wanted... and that works... but only if the file/folders that contain in don't have any spaces... otherwise NetBeans throws a ".....does not exist, or is not a plain file". Thus nothing off the desktop can be opened... Does anyone know of how I can fix this problem? Thanks.

    I can't figure out how to properly show the printer preference dialog of a given printer so that the user can change the printer settings. Most of the examples that I can find online manage to show the dialog but any changes the user might make are lost which makes it useless.   • Is is possible to hide label colors in list view in Mac OS 10.X Finder? I use labels as star ratings

    I have modified the first five label names in OS X Lion to be ? through ?????. This way I can easily tag photos etc. in the finder. However, I find that Apple's rendering of the colored bars is horrendously ugly. I'd like to keep the labels (to be able to sort by label) but not see the colors. I know it was possible to change the colors with Label X, but Unsanity has not issued an update for Lion. I don't need to change the colors, just find a way to hide them in the finder.

    How can I obtain an array with uid and names? I could iterate from 0 to 99999 and do a getpwnam(). However most machines have less than 5 accounts, so it's not optimal. I don't know what framework is responsible for this and thus I have no clue what to search for. Is there a more optimal solution that can traverse the accounts?

But when I access preference I write: SharedPreferences appPreferences = PreferenceManager.getDefaultSharedPreferences(this); boolean foo_value = appPreferences.getBoolean("foo_key_defined_in_xml", false); Is there any way to avoid acessing "foo_key_defined_in_xml" in hard-coded way? Maybe there is a possibility to access it in R style way?

    One of our program writes program information(window title, memory etc) in Java Preferences. On windows this is available under registry. How can I read the values written by Java program using c (or c++). Looks like API I should use is RegGetValue. Is this guaranteed to work on Windows XP 32 bit?
