  • Cannot log into chat

    I have set up the chat and broadcast accounts: clicked on my user name on the panel and chose Chat accounts... and Broadcast accounts... Now when I log into my system I cannot choose my status. In fact it is offline and I cannot choose any of the statuses. If I disable and enable one of them, the status will be online and I can choose any of the statuses. But if I choose offline, then again: I cannot choose any of the statuses.

  • Out of range on shut down, Log Out, Restart and Suspend

    I have looked extensively on the help forums but haven't found a similar problem. Whether I want to Shut Down, Restart, Log Out or Suspend, as soon as I select my desired option the screen goes black with a message (Out of Range displayed in the middle of the screen. No combination of keys frees the screen and I have to manually hold the power button on my PC to shut it down. There is no problem on start up. My computer is a dual boot with Windows 7.

The main requirements of my application server are: flexible configuration, support for a extremely high number of concurrent users. It will be a system for the mobile communications industry, so it must have high availability as well. I am going to develop a J2EE application and Open Source Applications Servers are my only option. I have use GlassFish for a very small project and I really liked it.   • Cannot Change "Log on through Terminal Services" in Local Security Policy XP from Server 2008 GP

    This is a mixed AD environment, Server 2003 R2 and 2008 R2 I have a 2003 AD R2 and a 2008 R2 AD. GPO is usually managed from the 2008 R2 machine. I have a RD Gateway on another server as well. I setup the CAP and RAP to allow a normal user to log on to the departments workstation. I also adjusted the GPO for that OU to allow Log on trhough Remote Desktop Gateway for the user group. This worked on my windows 7 workstation. But unfortunately the policy is a different name in XP "allow log on through Terminal Services" I can get through right into the machine but when the log on actually happens to the local machine i get the "Cannot log on interactively" error. This is set in (for the local machine) Secpol.msc Local Security Policy "user rights assignment" but is controlled by the GPO in Computer Configuration Policies Security Settings Local Policies "User Rights Assignment" Do I simply need to adjust the same setting on the same GPO but with a server 2003 GP editor? Feel like that could cause issues... Looking for some direction. Or if anyone has run into this issue yet. UPDATE Should this work? support.microsoft.com/kb/186529 Still seems like I will have the issue as the actual GP settings for Log on through Terminal Services is still different between Server 2008 R2 and 2003 R2.... Another Thought: Should I delete the GPO made for the department and remake it with the 2003 R2 server? I have no 2008 specific settings as the whole department runs XP other than myself. If that's a solution I will move my computer out of the department as a solution... Thoughts?

    Hi! Yesterday we had a power failure and the UPS did not work (it has worked perfect before). Everything seem to be ok when I started all the servers again except of the mail, when I try to mount the store I get the following message: “The database files in this store are corrupted” Server: Exchange 2003 running on a Small Business Server Latest full backup: one week old Backup program: Backup Exec 9.0 This is what I have done: 1. Copy every file in the MDBDATA folder (edb, stm, log) 2. Run Eseutil /d for priv1.edb 3. Run Eseutil /p for priv1.edb (took seven hours) 4. Run Isintig –fix –test alltests, now it breaks down. Isintig fails with the following error: Isinteg cannot initiate verification process. Please review the log file for more information. The problem is that there is no log file created. 5. Giving up on this route I decide to do a restore from the backup, it fails with the following error: Unable to read the header of logfile E00.log. Error -501, and the error: Information Store (5976) Callback function call ErrESECBRestoreComplete ended with error 0xC80001F5 The log file is damaged. My conclusion is that E00.log is damage, so how can I repair it so that I can restore the database? Or should I give up and try some other route?

    Masters, I try to set some event task on windows server 2003. I use this tutorial: http://www.petri.co.il/how-to-use-eventtriggersexe-to-send-e-mail-based-on-event-ids.htm My problem is when i set an event for example "If Event Id 528 in the security log, than send an e-mail.", then the eventrigger fire up the task continously, and i get the mail over and over. Any suggestion how to set eventriggers.exe to send e-mail once after the event occure in the event log? Thank you.

The Update-EbuMembers cmdlet does not return an object. I want to log any verbose messages written by WriteVerbose and I want to log errors created by ThrowTerminatingError.

    I have interited a box running SQL Server 2008 and Windows 2003, and have had a few events where largeish (35GB) log backups "stall", both before and after the installation of SQL 2008 SP1. The server log ships to a standby, so regular log backups are taken at 15 minute intervals. However, after an index reorg causes the log to grow to about 35GB (on a DB with about 17GB of data), the next log backup runs to ~95% completion, then seems to stop. The process shows as suspended, with a wait state of BACKUPIO. CPU, read, and write activity on the SPID also does not change, and the process stays in this state for hours, when normally a backup of this size should complete in about 20 minutes. This server has a single RAID-1 volume, thus the source database files and destination backup files are on the same volume. However, I cannot determine if another process is blocking the backup. The backup SPID cannot be killed, and the only way to terminate the log backup and clear the lock on the backup file is to cycle the SQL Server service. There was one event where the backup terminated completely, with an error that another process had locked the backup file, but no details about what that process was. Can anyone suggest a cause or diagnostic process to this situation?

  • Windows 7 VM log on lockout

    My Windows 7 XP Mode virtual machine has just locked me out of password log on. Two years of use and it never required I use a password on wake up, I never asked for that. Suddenly yesterday, password required! I located password and used it successfully a couple of times, but now even that is not good enough! Perhaps (unfairly) because I tried to get to the bottom of the new phenomenon and removed the password from the user accounts? Permissions are still set to ok for all users. I have been all the way through the settings I can access with the VM file hibernated, and have deleted the previously saved log on info, which always previously worked automatically as charged. Now when I attempt to log on it asks me for credentials, seems like progress, but when I offer them, and check the "remember my credentials" box, I still get the splash screen "The system could not log you on. [reminder about caps...]" !! Round and round. Back up and restore point versions of the VM toss me back into the same log on loop. There are no other machines on any network, I am the administrator and sole user. It must be specifically about the log on, a speck of dust corruption ... is there a way around this? I tried creating a new VM but the black inner box gets stuck at one point requesting I insert a boot disc. Thanks for input, AKa

  • How can I use multithreading in a Windows Forms application to update a progress bar?

    There are two objects. The Windows Form with a button and a progress bar, and another object that handles an algorithm. In the algorithm object there is an event, and a property. The event is ProgressChanged, and the property is Progress (which is an int). In the calling window, the button starts off a set of steps in the algorithm object. As each step (or substeps) occurs, the ProgressChanged event fires, and in the window there is an event handler that essentially increments the progress bar relative to the Progress property. The problem I am running into is that because the algorithm has a possibility (and high liklihood) of running a relatively long time, I need to move it into it's own background thread and push the event back up to the window. My issue is that I'm not completely sure what I'm doing when it comes to multi-threading. I've looked at Control.Invoke and I'm a little lost. Can someone point me in the right direction?

    I have created a custom control that inherit the TextBox, in that control i have override validating event and in validating event i have put validation that checks for the empty field. Now when i use that control on my winform and when i click on save button it immediate fires save event.. the validation event of custom control fires and it displays the error message but still it does not stop the save event to fire.... the save button CauseValidation Property is set to true.. i have also put (this.ValidateChildren()) i have also put CancelEventArgs ce.Cancel = true; in Custom Textbox control but neither working to stop the save event to fires.. i only want to fire Save event if Textbox is not empty. validating event fires, shows message for empty field and immediate fires save event.. now if you got an idea then if you have solution then please provide solution..

  • Approach to retrieve files from server

    I'm in the process of making a Java application with a corresponding update application. At any given time the user may want to update the application and the updater will ask for a list of files of the latest release. Based on this list, the updater can determine which files need to be downloaded to complete the update. I now have 2 approaches to solve this, but i would like to know what approach will put the least stress on my application and server. I could send a list of files i want to download to my server and the server zips the files and simply returns this compressed file to the application. The updater sents a request for each seperate file to the server, which simply returns the file The application will be used mainly in Belgium and The Netherlands and connections/bandwidth tend to be pretty decent in here. The average size of a single file should be around 100Kb and at most 1Mb. I expect an update to have anywhere between 10 to 50 new files. I expect at most 100 persons/day to update the application, i.e. in the week when a new version is released. I hope this is enough information to sketch my problem and any advice is welcome. If there is another common way to tackle this, i'd be glad to hear it.

  • Event ID 17890 (A significant part... paged out.) with SQL Server 2008

    I have a machine that has SQL Server 2008 Standard installed. Periodically (about once an hour) I am getting Event ID 17890 several times in a row. An example: 6:28:54 "A significant part of sql server process memory has been paged out. This may result in a performance degradation. Duration: 0 seconds. Working set (KB): 10652, committed (KB): 628428, memory utilization: 1%%. 6:34:27 "A significant part of sql server process memory has been paged out. This may result in a performance degradation. Duration: 332 seconds. Working set (KB): 169780, committed (KB): 546124, memory utilization: 31%%." 6:38:55 "A significant part of sql server process memory has been paged out. This may result in a performance degradation. Duration: 600 seconds. Working set (KB): 245068, committed (KB): 546124, memory utilization: 44%%." This pattern repeated at 7:26 - 7:37, 8:26 - 8:36, 9:24 - 9:35 and so with the same increasing working set and memory utilization pattern. I don't have any (known) background tasks running at this time. Backups run at 2:00 This subsided from 11:00 at night until it resumed at 4:00 in the morning and has been continuing the intermittent 10 minute glitch periods. As this server has plenty of RAM (the commit charge has peaked at 2,871,564 of 4,194,012 physical) I disabled the paging files after reading several items I dug up searching Google and not finding any of them changing the situation. This pattern I am documented is after removing the paging files, so I'm not even sure where we are paging the SQL process could be going. I also changed the SQL process memory to have a minimum of 500MB and a maximum of 2GB of RAM (as this is a light duty database server serving only a small workgroup). Has anyone encountered this? Prior to disabling the page files this error would cause 5 minutes of disk thrashing that disabled access to the databases, files, IIS webs and so on. Since disabling the page files it just logs strange things, but I'm not seeing a performance drop at least. Any suggestions would be welcome.

  • Polygonal Triangulation - algorithm with O(n log n) complexity

    I wish to triangulate a polygon I only have the outline of (p0, p1, p2 ... pn) like described in this question: polygon triangulation algorithm and this webpage: http://cgm.cs.mcgill.ca/~godfried/teaching/cg-projects/97/Ian/algorithm2.html I do not wish to learn the subject and have a deep understanding of it at the moment. I only want to see an effective algorithm that can be used out of the box. The one described in the site seems to be of somewhat high complexity O(n) for finding one ear. I heard this could be done in O(n log n) time. Is there any well known easy to use algorithm that I can translate port to use in my engine that runs with somewhat reasonable complexity? The reason I need to triangulate is that I wish to feel out a 2d-outline and render it 3d. Much like we fill out a 2d-outline in paint. I could use sprites. This would not serve cause I am planning to play with the resulting model on the z-axis, giving it different heights in the different areas. I would love to try the books that were mentioned, although I suspect that is not the answer most readers are hoping for when they read this Q & A format. Mostly I like to see a code snippet I can cut and paste with some modifications and start running.

  • .NET Weak Event Handlers – Part II

    On the first part of this article I showed two possible ways to create weak event handlers. One using reflection and the other using a delegate. For this performance analysis we will further differentiate between creating a delegate by providing the type of the listener at compile time (Explicit Delegate) vs creating the delegate with the type of the listener being only obtained at runtime (Implicit Delegate). As expected, the performance between reflection/delegate differ significantly. With the reflection based approach, creating a weak event handler is just storing a MethodInfo reference while with the delegate based approach there is the need to create the delegate which will be invoked later. So, at creating the weak event handler reflection clearly wins, but what about when the handler is invoked. No surprises there, performing a call through reflection every time a handler is invoked is costly. In conclusion, if you want good performance when creating handlers that only sporadically get triggered use reflection, otherwise use the delegate based approach.     I know that this site is full of questions about fixed gameloops and variable gameloops and different types of threading. But I coult find barely nothing that is related to server loops. The server has no screen to draw on. It could just run as fast as possible, but of course this makes no sense. But should it really use single "ticks" and send the updates periodically after each tick and wait for the next "tick" to update its state. Is it applicable to replace the gameloop by multilpe events? Suchs as incoming network traffic or timers? I often heared that a gameloop should be determistic, but does it really matter? For instance, when you play a shooter game against humand players and/or AI you proably would never be ably to repeat the same input twice. Is it a good idea to lose determistic behavior if it is nearly impossible to reprodruce the same input twice? So this question is more or less about whether an strictly event-based gameloop is adviseable or not and what are the pros and cons. I could imagene that an event-based gameloop could perform much faster and smoother, since you don't have bug CPU-spikes during the beginning of a new "tick". The fact that I could not find much about an event-based gameloop for servers leads me to the conclusion that inefficient or too complicated to get a real benefit from it. I'm sure if this is enough to get an idea from what I'm interessted to know, but I hope so.

  • Apache (XAMPP 1.8.0) access.log/Intrusion Detection Concern

    [I originally posted on SO but it earned me a Tumbleweed badge. This looks like a better venue for the question.] I have Apache (XAMPP 1.8.0) running on Vista Pro x64. A couple times now I have seen a pattern like the example below in access.log. Concerning is the "attack" seems to somehow shift from a public IP to a valid private IP on my network (happens to be the WAN address of one of my routers). Two questions: How is this possible, and what happens if the "attacker" stumbles on a valid request?
