I know this is very subjective.
Do developers need the latest and best in software and hardware if so why and if not why?
Some people in our team seem to think we need we need the best while I think we need things stable.
Hi, how do most of antivirus software block file system io in case of an infected file? I suppose all the magic resides in some custom kext to do that. Can anyone point me to some topics on this? Some working example would also be great. I've read apple docs about kext development, but mostly it's all about hardware drivers and i could not find what i need.
Thanx.
I want a simple timeline component (like in video editing software) for a clojure/seesaw app and I am wondering if it is a good approach to implement this directly with clojure and seesaw or if I should write it in java and make my clojure wrapper around it.
Or more generally: is a functional programming language optimal for writing UI widgets? I cannot imagine doing that without a lot of state involved. And wasn't OO invented for UI-development in the first place?
Hi,
We have request from our clients to provide a POS terminal version of our web-based software. They want to be able to enter record to their database from POS terminal (via web service) instead of using PC browser. I am the one to develop this application, as I am the lead developer of the main application. I haven't done any Windows embedded programming or .net compact edition before and would appreciate link to good tutorial or info on how to start developing for Windows CE 6.0 enabled POS terminal or device.
Thanks
In win32 programming in C:
Whats the best way to execute a win32 console program within another win32 program, and have the program that started the execution capture the output? At the moment I made the program redirect output to a file, but I am sure I must be able to open some sort of pipe?
I'm a reasonably skilled programmer, and I'm interested in branching out into some new languages -- python, specifically -- but frankly I do NOT want to go through a tutorial that assumes I know nothing about programming. I want a tutorial -- again, preferably for python -- that assumes I'm just unfamiliar with the language itself and describes the ways I can use the language to solve problems.
Does such a beast exist? I mean, other than the Python wiki?
I need to teach myself Winforms and user interface programming and want a decent book that will go thoroughly into the ins and outs of how to accomplish things.
Can anyone suggest a good book?
I know C# pretty well and have messed about with Winforms in the designer before.
Thank you
I'm currently developing a small Database Management System for a local company. How would you go about explaining how the system you have designed to a client? If they are non-technical and have no understanding of programming, how would you go about showing what the system will do and how it will do it? I guess some sort of visual representation of the system but this seems very patronising to me.
I'm currently investigating what the runtime of different programming languages looks like behind the scenes. For a compiled language like C, people usually give the explanation of "Code is compiled to assembly which is assembled and linked into a binary executable. The executable is then loaded into memory and the CPU interprets it." My question is how does the CPU know where to look for the next instruction to execute? Is it a memory address stored in one of the registers?
how powerful is Bluetooth programming on Android? is it possible to add new protocols and encryption techniques? or even change in the current protocols? does it support bluetooth 2.1+EDR?
i need some help!, i am planning to develop such LBS Mobile Application which find nearest things based on gps data from mobile.
1.what are the best free and (preferably) open source technologies for development?.
2.What programming language to use for development of such application?.
3.what are the points to be considered?
I need the general overview of the requirements for planning, I was interested in having a general understanding of the data, tools, and frameworks required to accomplish the job.

If you were a programming teacher and you had to choose one sorting algorithm to teach your students which one would it be? I am asking for only one because I just want to introduce the concept of sorting. Should it be the bubble sort or the selection sort? I have noticed that these two are taught most often. Is there another type of sort that will explain sorting in an easier to understand way?
I have a string (R(46 - 9900)) AND ( NOT (R(48 - 9900))) where R denotes Range . If you evaluate the expression it results in R(46-47) , considering the logical operators (AND,NOT).
I have a requirement where I need to parse such a string and evaluate it to a correct result . I have to use C++ as a programming tool to achieve this result .
Can anyone suggest a few guide lines as to how do I proceed on this ?
I recently started working on my first SharePoint (2007) project (C#), so I was wondering if anyone can point me to some good resources that will get me up and running with SharePoint programming basics quickly. I'd like to have a deeper understanding of the various terms I'm hearing such as Features, Lists, wsp, etc.
does anyone know of a visual programming tool that could be adapted for children (kids age 7-12) so that they can generate c programs to control device?
I develop my app in linux for both unix and win32(cross compile at each build) plataforms, so a ready to use function would be nice :). I'm using glib that has the 'gchar* g_get_current_dir(void)' function and it returns the current directory, but what I really need is the executable's dir. I'm inexperienced in C programming so any sugestions are welcome.
This is not closely related to programming stuff, so I marked as community wiki.
I am wondering how can I show a live Presentation from an Android phone? I want to put on a big screen my app, while I am presenting at a conference. I will directly interact with the phone during the presentation and I want the mobile screen visible on the big screen.
Are there any apps that does this, or this is possible by the USB cable?
We want to persist some user settings int he GUI part of our code. I used to do Win32 programming exclusively and the typical way this was done was with registry settings.
I assume that this should be done with configuration files, but was wondering if there was a library or cross platform wrapper that made key/value pair persistence very easy.
Forget screenshots, is it posible to capture a video of the running application in android?
Rooted or non-rooted, I don't care, I want atleast 15fps.
Update: I don't want any external hardware. The intent is to make it perfectly portable and every frame is captured within Android OS. If it crosses the boundaries of the app sdk, I'm willing to go to OS level modifications but I would need a starting point.
I have an activity that holds a fragment with Google Map view in it. App adds several dozens of markers to the MapView, using MarkerManager and ClusterRenderer to form clusters.
The problem is that when I have marker's InfoWindow opened and I press hardware Back button, it closes the app. Instead of that, I would like to have the InfoWindow closed.
Is there any straightforward way to achieve this?
Hello,
does anyone know how to load contents of a file into a multilined TextBox in net 2.0 compact framework and, after editing save it back to a file (the same or with changed name)?
I'm a newbee in C# programming :(
Greetings
Hi everyone, I'm reading O'reilly's Learning iPhone Programming and on page 79 it says I have to create a new file (UIViewController subclass) and thick the checkbox to ask Xcode to generate an associated NIB file. The problem is: I do not have this option in my XCode 3.1 (this options is from XCode 3.2). So, I have to do it manually, and I don't know how. Could someone please help me? Thanks in advance!
In method overloading, is it possible to have different return types for a overloaded method?
for example,
void foo(int x) ;
int foo(int x,int y);
double foo(String str);
in general object oriented programming, is it possible?
