• Upload .txt and keep formating

  I have been trying to upload a .txt to my server via a simple php script I made. Everything seems to uploaded correctly, if I open the .txt in Dreamweaver I can see all the formatting is still in tact with spaces and paragraph breaks. The problem I have is when I try to open that file with PHP and import the contents onto my site. I'm not using an editor right now, just a simple div where the contents are echoed. I don't have much experience with uploading/downloading using PHP. Am I not using a command to handle the file contents and keep the initial formatting? In the end I want the user to upload a file, and have PHP read the file and extract certain elements from it based on the number of spaces between paragraph breaks and such. I was able to actually echo the .txt using URLENCODE() which kept the formatting and made all my spaces +'s. Thats the closes I got, but the original file isn't uploaded in the format so I can't do a count for +'s and select x characters after the last +. Hmmm, if someone knows of a script already available that can do this or similar to with me just tweaking that would be awesome.

• How can I make PHP scripts timeout gracefully while waiting for long-running MySQL queries?

  I have a PHP site which runs quite a lot of database queries. With certain combinations of parameters, these queries can end up running for a long time, triggering an ugly timeout message. I want to replace this with a nice timeout message themed according to the rest of my site style. Anticipating the usual answers to this kind of question: "Optimise your queries so they don't run for so long" - I am logging long-running queries and optimising them, but I only know about these after a user has been affected. "Increase your PHP timeout setting (e.g. set_time_limit, max_execution_time) so that the long-running query can finish" - Sometimes the query can run for several minutes. I want to tell the user there's a problem before that (e.g. after 30 seconds). "Use register_tick_function to monitor how long scripts have been running" - This only gets executed between lines of code in my script. While the script is waiting for a response from the database, the tick function doesn't get called. In case it helps, the site is built using Drupal (with lots of customisation), and is running on a virtual dedicated Linux server on PHP 5.2 with MySQL 5.

• When clicking on ajax.actionlink in its oncomplete function I can't update the html of a div whith requested data

  In one partial view I've got some ajax.ActionLinks which when clicked update the div 'importpartupdate' (they just updates the div whith new ajax.actionLinks with other routevalues). The problem is that when this update is competed I have to update another div - depending on which link is clicked . That's why in my OnComplete function of my ajax.ActionLink I make an ajax request to the action'GridViewLanguage' which returns me the partial view which should uodate this other div which claass .floatLanguage. So the first time when I click a link eeverything works correctly and my two divs are correctly updated. • Why doesn't Firefox redownload images already on a page?

  Hello, i just read this article : https://developer.mozilla.org/en/HTTP_Caching_FAQ There's a firefox behavior (and some other browsers i guess) i'd like to understand : if i take any webpage and try to insert the same image multiple times in javascript, the image is only downloaded ONCE even if i specifiy all needed headers to say "do no ever use cache". (see article) I know there are workarounds (like addind query strings to end of urls etc) but why do firefox act like that, if i say that an image do not have to be cached, why is the image still taken from cache when i try to re-insert it ? Plus, what cache is used for this ? (I guess it's the memory cache) Is this behavior the same for dynamic inclusion for example ? ANSWSER IS NO :) I just tested it and the same headers for a js script will make firefox redownload it each time you append the script to the DOM. PS: I know you're wondering WHY i need to do that (appending same image multiple times and force to redownload but this is the way our app works) thank you The good answer is : firefox will store images for the current page load in the memory cache even if you specify he doesnt have to cache them. You can't change this behavior but this is odd because it's not the same for javascript files for example Could someone explain or link to a document describing how firefox cache WORKS?

• Letting user carry on after three attempts

  In my spelling game there is a grid that is populated with words. The words are hidden and the aim of the game is to spell the word that is highlighted with the aid of a sound and a picture. To highlight a word you press the "next" button. At the moment if you spell the word correctly it says "well done" and you can advance to the next word, but if you spell it incorrectly you have to keep attempting the word until it is complete. As the game is designed for children I do not think this is the best approach, so I would like to make it so you can advance after 3 incorrect attempts. I have played around with the script so much trying to put counters on incorrect attempts and then making the button active but cannot seem to get it to work. Can someone please help me? • is it possible to make one click fires two events or more by javascript?

  I am currently making a temporary download page for website visitor. The page includes a form, after the visitor fills the form up, the site will take them to the pdf download page. In the download page, there are some pdf files download links (I am just using a tag.). The problem I am running into is an order of operations question. When do I call the dataTable function so that I can be assured that the table is built AFTER the values are populated? • subversion: how to manage tweaked files

  Our group is considering moving to SVN. But, I can't seem to find a way to do the following: I need to make minor tweaks locally to about 20 files in the repository w/o having SVN consider them "changed" and included in the commit. (Changes like communication time-outs and logging levels.) Ideally I would want to merge the tweaked files to newer versions in the repository. (Keeping the tweaked local file up-to-date with committed changes form other users.) I can't imagine we're unique in wanting/needing this. Are there best practices around this type of use case? One thing I'm considering is putting all the tweaked files into a branched "tweaked" working copy. Then merging my tweaked files into my "official" working copy. Then using a script, which compares the "tweaked" and "official" working copies, to update my ignore list. The script would also un-ignore and alert me to any files that had tweaks and other changes that, presumably, needed to be committed to the repository. This seems kinda hacky and I can't imagine there's not a better way.

• Image on mouseover takes space on PageLoad.

  Hello, I am trying to show an image on Mouseover and hide it on Mouseout. I am successful in mouseover and mouseout but the image is actually taking the space around the text though i have visibility as hidden.. The text is surrounded with the space of image but the image is displayed on mouseover. But I notice that there's a small delay after I've clicked a link and before the content is actually loaded. It's not very intense content that's loaded either so I think it's got something to do with the order which things happen in the script. I need to represent in a JSP website 2 ComboBox, one for brand and another for model, that when you select the brand, in the model list only appear the ones from that brand.   Hi Stackoverflow, I'm building a website where I'm using jQuery to animate a horizontal tabbed menu. What I want to achieve can be seen here: / link removed / If you hover/mouseover the "Link 1" tab, you'll see that a white div is expanding. Each of the tab menu items are a styled li-tag. What I want to do is, that when you hover/mouseover i.e. the "Link 2" tab, the white div contracts and then expands again with content related to "Link 2" instead of "Link 1". Also, the "Link 1" tab should be expanded by default (i.e. when you just entered the site) Does any of you jQuery ninjas out there know how to do this?   Guys I have the following Code which I know doesnt work correctly. Yes I know how to do this in JQuery but In this case I cannot use jquery.   I have a website right now that uses two languages (french and english) The way it works right now is that if someone goes to mysite.com/folder/file.php for example, file.php is simply a script that figures out which language to use, get's it's own path and filename(file.php) and serves up mysite.com/en/folder/file.php (if the language is english). However what shows up in the URL is still mysite.com/folder/file.php. For any folder and any file the same script is used. If I want to add a new file I have to add the file to the folder the user types into the browser as well to the en and fr folders.   Are there any tools that can be used on a Mac to support manually executed tests? I have a number of tests that I'm executing manually and which I'm currently documenting using merely a plain text file. "Tools" can be interpreted rather loosely here, anything that's a step up from the plain text file would be useful: a template for some suitable application, supporting AppleScript scripts, a web-based system, a full-blown application ... Some things that would be great to have better support for (see also the example below): Checking off each step while you're manually executing the test. Showing the next step(s) in a small window that is always kept in front of all other windows. Automatically updating the 'last tested' and 'using svn revision' info. Keeping a record of all previous testing rounds (not just the last one). ... Any suggestions for any such "tools" that can be used on a Mac? An example (faked) entry from the plain text file to give you a better idea of what I'm looking for: - Check that exported web pages render properly in Safari. Last tested: 2010-03-24 Using SVN revision: 1000 Steps: - Open a new document. - Add some items to the document. - Export the document to a web page "Test.html" in a new folder "Export Test" on the Desktop. - Open the web page in Safari, script: tell application "Finder" open file "Test.html" of folder "Export Test" of desktop end tell Expected results: - The web page should appear properly with all items shown. Clean up steps: - Remove the folder "Export Test" from the Desktop. ( Note: for those unaware, the snippet of AppleScript in the above can be executed from most text editing applications through the Services menu by selecting the snippet and using: the application menu Services Script Editor Run as AppleScript. This is quite useful to automate some steps for tests that are difficult to automate as a whole. )

  I'm trying to remove a case clause from a bash script. The clause will vary, but will always have backslashes as part of the case-match string. I was trying sed but could use awk or a perl one-liner within the bash script. The target of the edit is straightforward, resembles: $cat t.sh case N in a\.b); #[..etc., varies] ;; esac I am running afoul of the variable expansion escaping backslashes, semicolons or both. If I 'eval' I strip my backslash escapes. If I don't, the semi-colons catch me up. So I tried subshell expansion within the sed. This fouls the interpreter as I've written it. More escaping the semi-colons doesn't seem to help. X='a\.b' ; Y=';;' sed -i '/$(echo ${X} | sed -n 's/\\/\\\\/g')/,/$(echo ${Y} | sed -n s/\;/\\;/g')/d t.sh And this: perl -i.bak -ne 'print unless /${X}/ .. /{$Y}/' t.sh # which empties t.sh and eval perl -i.bak -ne \'print unless /${X}/ .. /{$Y}/' t.sh # which does nothing
